[Q] SIM Toolkit Missing - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I just flashed this ROM [ROM][24/11] Dynamics v2.0 - Newer WP7.8 since it indicated it has a SIM Toolkit, but I can't find it. Any help will be very much appreciated as I keep switching phones every time I need this feature, which is a lot of times... Thanks

it's on settings...
people settings have export to SIM.

The main mode of talk time top up is through the sim toolkit settings that are always being updated with new product introductions. It's technically the only thing missing... Is there no other solution to this at all?

Sorry wrong answer..
for you maybe it's needed, but the lack of that thing is the reason why I like WP.
Every phone has those useless "services" (in my country they are pure money wasting crap), but maybe you need it because of some financial services that uses the SIM card, and the SIM Toolkit is needed.
I'm very sorry for not helping you

Considering switching from Samsung Vibrant... What to expect?

Hey guys, I've been looking this week, and I've found someone willing to trade their HD7 with me in about 2 weeks. So, naturally, I have some questions.
-I'm big on car integration... not with bluetooth (POS Jetta Don't got it!) just with an AUX and charger. So, does the launcher, or any apps have a landscape mode? How is navigation? I really like google's navigation, how does WP7's Compare?
-I very much rely on Google's services on a daily basis. How is WP7's support for Gmail and contact sync?
-I'm also rooted, I guess there's a similar thing for WP7. What are the benefits of this, and is there anything that would allow tethering or a mobile hotspot without the plan?
Sorry if any of these questions have already been answered in other threads.
Thanks!
Try a search, or look in the general WP7 forums. You'll find all your answers there.
It doesn't have native turn-by-turn navigation yet, but there are some very nice 3rd party solutions for free.
Your gmail will sync up just fine.
I haven't really found a need to hack my HD7. I understand some of the benefits, but the HD7 was the first phone that I have left stock and lived it.
You have to bring a different mentality from Android to WP7. You definitely won't he sorry though.

The above sums up my thoughts!
Specifics:
+ LEDs aren't as 'vibrant' but you'll find they don't need to be.
+ The speaker is not as good as the one on the Vibrant; stick to headphones for music
+ The camera is every bit as good as Vibrant (thank God) but there are less controls for it in the software. WP7 doesn't have anti-shake. Not sure if Mango will.. Photo Editing - Thumba editor is advertised quite a bit but get Pictures Lab instead - WAY better.
+ Bing Maps is REALLY cool - but not as gadgety as Google Maps
+ I was lucky and had a good GPS chip in my Vibrant - but the GPS on HD7 is far better!
+ One major annoyance I have is with WP7 Contacts - the software overall is better than Android's except you can only search by name - not city, firm, address, etc. I understand though this WILL be changed in Mango thk God..
I'd say given pros and cons, I love WP7 and my HTC HD7 - even with a couple of pitfalls mentioned here, I really haven't looked back. And unlike my custom romming of the Vibrant (was running Gingerbread by CM7) I am perfectly happy with running stock on this one.
You have to understand - if you convert now, as much as you will love WP7 in it's current state there are definitely things that point to it as being the new kid on the block where phone OS are concerned - my gut tells me that Mango will make this equal if not superior to iPhone and Android in function (I think it's already there from the UI standpoint)
Cheers!

[Q] Disabling HTC Sense

Anyone know of any ways to disable as much of HTC sense as possible? I have installed ADW launcher cause I much prefer a cleaner look/feel to my device, but that crazy pull down notification area and the constant nagging to authorise HTC on Facebook is becoming a nightmare!
Wait for someone to release a cyanogenmod rom. After you've s-off'd and rooted of course. Apart from that not much you can do, mate edit some build.prop if your experienced in that kind of thing.
Well you gotta ask yourself, why buy a HTC with sense if you dislike the software!... should have went for nexus s, SGS2 etc.
If you root and wait for a cyanogen 7.1 rom, that will disable beats by Dre and it will not work the same if it is managed.
Sent from my rooted Incredible S using cyanogen 7.1, ADW launcher
I asked myself.... The reply was... I liked the hardware and knew the dev community would be up and running soon producing some top notch bloat free software. In the meantime, I have found that removing my details from accounts avoids the annoying Facebook prompts. Oh, and I also got some free Beats solo headphones in the box... Bonus! As for the Beats - it's simply a custom tuned equalisation which can be done on any software.
HTC supports unlocking now... unlock that baby and put on the ROM you want!

So,do you think sensation xl will run wp7?

I'm looking for a replacement for my trustworthy Hd2,and today was comparing some phones as I'm very inclined to the galaxy series, and actually realized that the sensation xl and the titan have very close specs, processor and GPU are the same,I was impressed by how close on hardware these phones are, with the right development and a good amount of luck this can be a hell of a phone..

Will the Sensation XL ever run WP7?
No. Not ever.
I really don't see why not. The hardware is there, all it needs is someone willing to to put in the time and work to get it to work on the sensation XL.
If I could find out how to port OS's I'd be working on them all the time.
If someone would be willing to show the process of porting OS's that would probably help the community out alot.
i remeber someone saying porting android wp7 on a hd2 was a stupid idea and look what happend so nothings impossible and theres a lot to learn from that but if im honest, theres a hell of a lot of work and time involved and an awefull lot of barriers to get through first, itle need a whole new bootloader to start with,at this moment in time it just doesnt seem a viable option and if you want wp7,your better off getting a Titan
The hardware is there. Like previously stated though it would take alot of time and effort to port WP7 to the sensation.

[Q] Interested in getting a N1 - Speed and firmware question

Hi,
I'm interested in getting in Nexus One!
Not sure if I'll do for now, but it looks to fill my needs perfectly (Well, doesn't have a lot of internal memory, but still more than my Optimus One)!
The price looks fine, actually. The new phones are way too expensive, for me. Allright, questions before I purchase or so:
---
The speed: it seems the Nexus One is blazing fast with his 1 GHz processor, but at which point? My LG Optimus One (Okay, that's 600 MHz, normal) does lag quite often, and I have a lot of APPs installed (I use them all. Kept the more useful only). Will I experience slowdowns like this on the Nexus One, especially if I plan to install Cyanogenmod 7 ?
---
Next question, it's about his "unlocked" statut; I've been searching about this, but I can't find the exact answer of my question.. It does allow you to use any SIM card from any operator in it, but does that also mean I could use my Nexus One not to call? Basically, use it without calling, so that I wouldn't pay for this service?
---
Last questions are about Cyanogenmod and the stock firmware. Does all the Nexus One come with Android 2.2 installed, or others still have Android 2.1 ? I would like to install Cyanogenmod 7, and upgrade to Android 2.3.6 (I like the interface, for some reason, with the black notification bar. That sound dead-easy to install), but can I install both ? What should I do first, upgrade from 2.2 (or 2.1?) to 2.3.6 then install Cyanogenmod, or the reverse? Will that work?
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
Q1. Imo the n1 is still quite snappy in comparison to the latest phones. Cm7 runs very well so do the miui based Roms. No need to worry about internal memory with a2sd. Some apps experience a little lag when cache is on sd, but think that is more dependant on sd card class. Still the best phone in its 2nd hand price range I reckon.

Thank you, this is good news!
I don't have the money to buy a 300/500$ phone (My max would be 200, I guess), I think the Nexus One would be just fine!
I anyone can answer my other questions, please let me know!

You don't need a sim card for the phone to function, if that's what you're asking.

You can install any PASSIMG you want, though some people have problems downgrading, but you can search for the version older fixes.
Just unlock it, install a custom recovery, then you can flash whatever rooted rom you wish.

Great!
If I don't use a SIM Card, are they setting and APPs (Contacts?) other than calling that will be disabled ?
Right now, my LG Optimus One smartphone is on a Koodo contract; so let's suppose I put my Optimus One SIM card in my Nexus, I'll stay with the same contract, and I'll still pay the same way I do normally?
In other words, a SIM card isn't required, but if I decide to use my Nexus to call, I can simply put my Koodo SIM card in my Nexus, and nothing should change, right (Except that I'm now using my Nexus to call, rather than my LG!) ?

Currently, the hardest thing to do seems to install and set-up the ADB console. I've checked guides to help me, anyways.
Hope you can understand me, I'm French!
Thanks for the help!

Let's put this way. If you turn on the flight mode, all your apps in N1 will still work. You can also make call too even without a sim card or in flight mode if you have wifi and Voip app running.
I don't see why you need to pay more or less if you just simply plug in your sim card and use the N1.
Rooting and installing custom rom are not that difficult. All you need to read more XDA threads. For rooting, you can use some app to do it for you. All you need is just "one click". That's done. Then you can install rom manager to install custom recovery and roms. Good luck.

It's a waste of money to spend $200 on Nexus One.

Okay, rooting won't be a problem, I've read about "Universal Androot"!
Thank you!

I've read the whole thread, and people recommend to get an HTC Sensation or HTC Amaze; the problem, is that I'm in Quebec, and I'm trying to find used phones, for some models, it can be a challenge.
Actually, the minimum price of the HTC Sensation I found was 300$, while the HTC Amaze, 360$.
When I checked the SPECs of differents phones, the availibility in Quebec, and the price range, there are however 3 phones that caught my eye (No need for me to get the newest phone with Android 4.0 and a lot of new features for the price of 400$):
- HTC Incredible S ;
- HTC Desire ;
- HTC Nexus One ;
I've been looking for others phones, such as Motorolla Droid Pro, but many aren't availible here.
Considering that I spent like 175$ on a Creative ZEN Touch 2, I feel like paying about the same deal for a Nexus One wouldn't be a bad deal; what I like about it, it's his automatic unlocked statut.
If I still won't be happy with a Nexus One, what would you recommend, 200$ being the maximum price for me?
Now that google had announced officially that there wont be any future updates(ICS) for N1. U may need to pause n think a bit if u r specific abt OTA update. But the great techno devs are already doing an amazing work to bring ICS to n1. So that should not be much of an issue.
If u asking abt hardware specs, n1 is better or atleast equivalent to any mid range droids out there in the market. I bought mine 2 months back for 250$. I am happy n lovin it.
So ur $200 deal seems to be good

First, you can forget about "Universal Androot", it's long outdated and won't help you.

In that price range, as I wrote multiple times, HTC MyTouch 4G is so far superior to Nexus One, while being priced in the same range, that I wouldn't even think about considering N1. I have one, and I had N1 before it. No comparison whatsoever between the two.
The only warnings that should be put here:
1) MT4G has 2 types of screen, "good" one being much better than "bad" one. Good one is better than N1's AMOLED for me, "bad" one has color distortion when viewed from angle. Look for the good one.
2) MT4G has 2 types of ROM chip (eMMC), "good" and "bad" one. There was much hype on the forum, considering the "bad" one a "ticking bomb", advising not to root. I hope this hype is long over, and this "issue" is non-issue.
3) MT4G is not as easy to root as other phones. No 1-click-root is available for this phone on the latest OS, rooting requires downgrading it. Not a complicated procedure, and multiple guides exist.
