Is Paranoid Android Plausible for this device? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I've been reading a bunch of posts and I know there are people trying to port CM for our device. Now there are people who say this is not viable due to the x86 architecture, and then there are others who say its just a matter of recompling some stuff and 'voilá'.
However I would like to know how realistic this is, and more specifically wether we could ever expect a port of Paranoid Android on this device.
On my previous devices I tried hundres of ROMs and I always ended up falling in love with PA. so this is something I'd like to see.
Opinions?

Hi, PA and the vast majority of custom roms, are based in CM, so, we have to start from that..

PA is no more based on cm. It's fully AOSP based now.
It will be great to see this rom on the razr i ...and technically nothing is impossible ...we just need someone to do the job

The natural curse of development always start with AOSP anyway,

Of course
But until v2.54 was fully based on cm10. After they started over from scratch using aosp to develop the upcoming v3

If one AOSP based ROM is plausible, I see no reason why another wouldn't be. Give it time, and I'm sure we'll see results.

Status on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean?

As of now, the development of CyanogenMod 10 on RootzWiki has been closed as the project is now dead and many problems have come up, so I don't think it will be possible for us Vivid/Raider/Velocity users to get it unless there is some secret thing that I don't know about being worked on. The development for CyanogenMod 9 seems to have also stopped or something because I don't think I have seen any major changes in about 3 months.
Can anyone show or tell me what the current status of CyanogenMod 9 or 10, if we will ever get it, and any potential ROMs with Android 4.1.1. Also, will there be a way to somehow flash or get a ROM with any Jelly Bean features such as Google Now, Project Butter, and offline voice dictation?
Thanks.
We're actually discousing what to do in vivid general forum, take a look at it to get the info you're looking for

Cm9 was stopped when cm10 was started...both were being worked on by the same dev and he didn't see the point of working on two different cyanogenmods at the same time...which is understandable
As of now as far as I know there is nothing going on to bring cm9 or jelly bean/cm10 to the vivid...although as stated earlier it is being discussed what should be done...

Kev_cr is thinking about picking up where syn left off it seems...he seems fairly confident...and just cause syn is gone doesn't mean no one else will attempt it...syn is a good dev...but he's not the best and there are plenty just as good as him out there-although they may not be as friendly and helpful as syn and willing.to share knowledge like syn...

Cool. This phone needs some aosp jelly bean, it rocks on my n7

It would be really cool to have Jelly Bean or CyanogenMod 10 on this device. Hopefully, we do. It might be the last update ever for this phone but I'm sure there will be many things we can flash onto to improve it in the future. It's sad since this phone only had a 9 month life cycle and there are people who are stuck on a 3 year contract...

[Petition] CM 10/10.1 for Tilapia/Nakasig Nexus 7 3G

Hi everyone, this thread is a petition to make developers know our interest in having a working CM10/10.1 and custom kernels to our wonderful Nexus 7 3G tilapia/nakasig
At this time, we have only a few ROM modifications based on AOSP or on official Google ROM, no fully optimized CM-based ROM.
I've read somewhere that someone had created a CM10/10.1 ROM from scratch for tilapia, surely not well optimized, but a CM ROM however, with all the CM goodies that AOSP doesn't have.
Tilapia is ony a modified version of grouper, the WIFI-only Nexus 7, and it would be great if someone know how to port this build to tilapia without loosing the 3G feature, which is really useful for me.
So, if you are interested too in a tilapia/nakasig CM10/10.1 ROM for Nexus 7 3G, comment this thread!
Hoping this will increase the great developers efforts to this (apparently forgotten) device. :fingers-crossed:
...and sorry for my bad english..
I daresay, it is not forgotten - they are working on making 10.1 as a whole. Once they get it available I am sure that one of the enterprising developers who has the 3g model will make it happen. I don't really think a petition is necessary. Don't poke the bear.
Another option - you could try to work on it yourself.
grouper custom kernels should work on tilapia. i know that the trinity kernel works on all variants of the nexus 7, it has been confirmed.
I subscribe petition
This device just came out... Dont expect it to happen unless you know a dev that has interest in building it for us... This device came out on the heels of a wifi version that a ton of people bought and its going to either take a while or some donations to get a cm build.

MIUI

anyone seen this: http://gsminsider.com/2013/11/miui-android-4-4-kitkat-february-2014/
i know there is much hate on miui. i've used it in the past on other phones and it was not a bad experience.
Nice, looking forward to try out miui once it becomes available.

I like MIUI and can't wait to try on my nexus5!

I'd like to see this working, but the last phone I owned that had a fully functional, non-buggy MIUI rom was the Samsung Fascinate back in 2011. Every other phone I've owned since then (roughly 6-7 devices) have had buggy, incomplete and/or barely usable MIUI roms. As much as I hate to say it, I feel like MIUI's time has come and gone.

Hmm I never really ran into crazy bugs. The biggest issue is lack of device support, it can be a major pain the ass to get them to work on new devices.
It took forever for them to release for the nexus 4 but when they did it was pretty solid.
I hope they do release a build just so i can give it a shot, probably not a daily driver.
I have some bad news.
I'm a Chinese and I have talked with one of MIUI's employers this morning.
MIUI will officially support Nexus7(2013) running 4.4.X in the future but it will take a few months before official release. (I guess it's because of their MiPad)
Nexus 5 is not on the support list right now. (Sun Peng is always bluffing on Weibo) (And Nexus4's MIUI is supported by developers rather than MIUI)
MIUI will not release 4.4.x patchrom in the near future because only few devices running KitKat now.
So, I don't think there will be a MIUI patchrom for 4.4.X before Feb.

Yep, same here. I think the last bug free version of MIUI I ever experienced was the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V, lol!
Then again, this is the first Nexus device I've owned after owning the S2 and S4, and I must say that this device is so much easier to mod than any other device, so we'll see.

True. Honestly though, even a perfect MIUI rom isn't going to have a place on my phone. It was great back in the Gingerbread days since stock Android wasn't really "there" yet, but I don't see what kind of advantage it could really offer over stock KitKat. In particular, I see the lack of an app drawer as a major hindrance at this point. My homescreen setup has gotten more and more efficient over the years (I'm down to 2 home screens + GNow). The last thing I want now is to have all of my apps puked out on a zillion homescreens and then try to organize it all. I realize I can use another launcher, but to me that kind of defeats the purpose of flashing MIUI in the first place.
Lets wait for it Tried miui v5 in htc desire S and it works great
And updates weekly is awesome.
had miui on htc desire, htc sensation, s2, didnt have official on nexus4....i cant imagine how good it will work on nexus 5
http://news.mydrivers.com/1/291/291827.htm might be the new look of miui v6 ...i know is just a concept but looks interesting

Since when is it having trouble? It ran so solid on my S4, even with the unofficial builds.

With note 2 miui was the only ROM that was lag free, especially when turning off the screen with CRT animation, it was the only ROM that was smooth...but not even comparable with stock n5

I was thinking about this ROM earlier last week. Wouldn't mind test driving that UI on these cores.

Grrat news for miui lovers!

Miui based on 4.4 kitkat will be released any time soon and our Nexus 5 will be officially supported !

Are you going to have it in your nexus 5 ? Leave your comments about what you think on this subject
I used to like it on my DX2, but it kinda sucked on my gnex. No disrespect to the developers, but it just didn't work well on that device. I'll definitely give it a slot on MultiRom though

Yeah, sometimes when ported to other phones its really difficult to fix bugs and its even more difficult if the cm base has bugs too...for the htc design i ported miui to that device but sadly cm base was really buggy and for me almost impossible to fix it

Well, there are perfect phones everywhere and do have custom roms, plus maybe they seem useless to you but not to others.

I'm wondering that too. I think this situation might change if we get Oreo update. Hopefully it will bring project treble with it. That mean we would be able to run barebones (AOSP) version of Android. Soon after that there might be some member of this forum interested in cooking some decent ROM' s or porting one.
I don't understand this. If you don't like the skins that brands cover Android with, don't buy it. Buy a phone that has pure android instead of complaining about lack of ROMs.
