[Q] Troube with memory card - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have the 32gb Nook HD+ and am having trouble with the memory card. I use Calibre as my ebook manager and to load books to my Nook via USB cable to desktop computer. I can load books to the card without difficulty. Then after disconnecting from the program and reconnecting at a later time to put additional books on the Nook it doesnt show any of the previously loaded books as being there. When I go to the tree to expand the SD card it shows what I am currently loading but nothing that was previously put on it. Nothing has been done to erase the information so, realistically it should still be there. Dont know if this is something anyone can help with but appreciate any suggestions. Use the same program with my Nook Tablet and it works without glitch. (this is a brand new memory card too - SanDisk 64gb SD HC micro SDHC Class 4 Flash memory card)

It is not your card. It has to do with MTP and the Calibre settings. Best to go to the Calibre forum for the answers.

Cannot Read 8gb micro sdhc card on pc

hi folks
this is my first post and any help would be appreciated...
i have a mda vario 3 and am trying to install software on the sdhc card 8gb by sandisak.
my computer sees this as an external drive but still says insert disk in drive d? some colleagfues say the pc cannot read that size of the card and requires a bios update????? any ideas what they are talking about and how i fix this problem
Thanks in advance
Hi tubzy,
I'm new to this topic, but I think you'll need a SDHC compatible card reader.
In the linked thread is a solution I think.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348995
Bye
EDA-One
no solution still
hi eda-one
sorry this still is no soluton - i do hae the latest sandisk with the card reader and once all this gear is connected to the pc it says...please insert a disk in drive f??
even though the disk is in the usb card reader
did you try format it?
If you have used the card on an 'oldish' PC without the latest BIOS or Windows updates installed it may not be SDHC compatible even using a card reader.
You can also get a situation where formatting using the standard Windows formatter or even just writing files to it from your PC will corrupt its filing system.
There are various utilities available on SD manfacturers sites for formatting and recovery.
Check out the 'Formatting and Read/Write check util in the OEM section here and download the latest drivers for your reader whilst there.
http://sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx
Hope this helps.
Hi and thank you
HI
Even after trying this it still doe s not work,
I have downloaded the utility and attempted to run it but it says no usb found even though it can vonnect to a usb pen drive?? any ideas ??
thank you
I had that same problem when I first got my 4 Gb SDHC card and it was because I didn't connect the card reader directly to a USB port, instead I was using an external USB port. When I put it in to an onboard one, even though all of mine are on the back of my computer, it started working.
8gb card
Hi and thanks for your response.
i am sorry but can you please clarify what you mean to be onboard usb port. Is this the sockets where you normally connect any usb device eg a mouse to a computer or do you mean i have to take the computer apart and do it a motherboard level?
I am not very technical and apologise in advance if it sounds a silly question.
I bought the damn thing and was hoping it would and should work from out of the cardboard package. I can see this on the my computer as an external drive but when clcikcing on it it says insert disk
if the disk was faulty it would not work on the phone but on the phone it says 7.5 gb available and have stored some data there. So i think it it is a case of the pc not being able to read the card and from there i dont know what the problem is.
Any further light on this subject would really be appreciated

You have it right about what I meant. I did mean the sockets where you connect any USB device. You don't need to take your computer apart or anything. If that's what you are already doing then it's possible that the reader that you got with the card may just be faulty.
Not knowing what adapter you are using is a problem. I had similar problems with my first SDHC card and finally went to a local office supply store (Staples) and bought a "Sandisk MobileMate+ USB Memory Card Reader" for $15. It is a memory stick sized device and it accepts the SDHC MicroSD cards directly in it's slot. This works great on any PC so far.
It just may be the reader.
thanks!
This is a nightmare on elm street scenario.
I have finally tracked it to a faulty card reader, so i purchased another one. This one works and we have another problem - cannot copy data file path is too deep???????????
I am openeing another thread for that
Thanks to every1 for trying various solutions
I'm guessing you got a bad card..which is going to happen a lot with these high-cap cards, at least for a while. I am assuming you are using the small, plastic USB reader that came with the 8 gb card....that plugs directly into a USB socket? If not...I can tell you right now..the "older" adapters will NOT work with 4/6/8 gb cards. By this, i mean the adapter/reader that usually comes with the cards in the package. Also, it may sound silly..but make SURE you didnt, or are not, forcing the card into the phone/reader backwards...i know it's silly, but it's damn easy to do..and it usually trashes the card. My 8 gb just got in tonight...and it's working like a champ. I'm guessing you got a bad card. best of luck.
This is crazy. My phone reads the card just fine, but the card readers I have do not work period. 8G SDHC

[Q] Issue with using AutoNooter to root virgin NookColor

I seem to be having an issue that I can't find a solution for. I have followed the directions in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942424) to the letter, but when I get to the point where I have to turn off the Nook, put the uSD card with the AN image on it into the Nook, and then plug the Nook into my computer, my Nook simply boots up normally, and is in USB connected mode when it starts up. It never boots into Android. It just boots into stock unrooted Nook UI.
However, it does do something strange. Whenever I try to boot from the AutoNooter uSD card, when I unlock the screen for the first time, it is in USB mode (with the screen saying "You may now safely transfer files to your NookColor..."), and it keeps dropping the connection sporadically. The "You may now safely transfer..." screen goes away for a split second, and then it comes back almost right away, making the noise it makes when you connect your Nook to a computer via USB. This only happens when I boot using the AutoNooter imaged uSD card by plugging in the USB cable.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Sounds like your Nook doesn't recognize your uSD card as bootable. If you have another uSD card handy, write the AutoNooter image to that one.
Otherwise, try unmounting and formatting the uSD on the Nook itself. Then make sure your Nook can access it using the built-in file browser in the Library app. If that's all good, power down your Nook and pop out the uSD card and re-write the AutoNooter image to the uSD. Hopefully, your Nook will boot off it this time.

I've tried another older 1gb uSD card I had lying around, and that one didn't work either. I bought another 8gb class 4 card that I will try.
I did format the 16gb card I was using from the Nook, and put some pictures and mp3s on it to test to make sure it was not a bad card. The Nook was able to see those, but like you said, it doesn't seem like it recognizes the uSD with the AutoNooter image as bootable.

That is weird. Have you tried any other bootable images? If not, try the Monster RootPack. That should boot you into Clockwork Recovery but don't do anything in there. If you can't even boot off of that image, I would have to say that there is something about how you are writing the images to the uSD that is the problem.

I have a bad NC USB cable that causes the appearing/disappearing act within Windows. Just for giggles, when booting w/o the uSD card installed, wait until it gets to the home screen. Connect to your computer. If the mounts properly, carefully flex the USB cable connector at the NC end. If you start getting weirdness, then you either have a bad cable or the NC's USB connector has gone a bit wonky.
Finally got it working. Apparently, creating the image using the built-in SD card reader in my laptop was messing something up. I used an external one that my wife has lying around, and it worked the first time.
Thanks for all the help I got in this thread

[Q] I'm really not THAT dumb...

But I just can't figure something out. I have put CM7 on my nook color and it runs fantastically. I have an 8 gb sandisk sd card where it boots from. How do I put music/audio files/video files etc...onto the SD card? All of those kind of files, I assume are presently on the emmc or nook color internal memory and I have run out of the 1 gb of space. So, I guess I have two questions. One is how can I put music/audio files onto the sd card (non-boot partition) which should be at least 7gb? Or how can I put those types of files on the 5 gb on the nook color, which I gather they have set aside for purchases from B&N? Remember up above, I said that I am not THAT dumb? Well, I'm not that tech savvy, either, so please be kind with any replies
How is your SD card currently partitioned out?
you should be able to connect your pc to your nook using usb cable.
Settings >> Applications >> Development >> and check USB debugging.
close and your done.Next
pull your notification bar and you should be able to see the little bug click on it. and the rest should be easy.
If I recall, music goes on /sdcard/music and should be automatically picked up by the player.

Music can be pretty much anywhere on the SD and be picked up.
If you booting CM7 off uSD using verygreen's instructions then you do not have to worry about resize or re-partition, it should be already done for you. All you need to do is:
+ plug the NC into the PC running Windows
+ look at the notification area on the NC
+ tap on it and enable USB mass storage (connect to PC or whatever it says)
+ you should see roughly 5GB under CM7SDCARD, do whatever you want with it.
Thanks for the replies. I feel, well, kind of THAT dumb I never knew there was a notification button on the bottom of the CM7 screen. I found it and now can move all of my audio files over to the sdcard. Thanks again for all the replies.
Don't be!
We all learn something new.

Lumia 521 SD Card Boot Problem

So I have a 64gb card in my phone, everything works fine on it except on boot it says there a problem when there really is none. All my music and files open just fine. Another issue I have is that the USB transfer rate is slower than 1.1 so any time I want to put new music on in have to take the card out and use an SD card reader to put new files onto it. Often times when transfer via a cable to the phone it just locks up mid transfer. How do i fix both the SD card problem boot message and the horrible transfer rates and lockup via USB?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Same issue on lumia 820.
Its possible that the master file table is dirty and the MicroSD needs formatted, but I'd use the Panasonic SD card formatter (I think that's what its called anyways), as SD cards require special care compared to hard drives.

[Q] Exfat and CM

I just flashed CM 10.1.3 on my replacement HD+. I've got a 64GB Sandisk Ultra formatted to exfat. It seems to read the card without flashing the fuse scripts, but I'm having some issues. The card is not detected on boot up, I have to remove and re-insert the card.
Titanium is having fits. It says the card is not writeable though I can write to the card fine with CM's file manager. Is exfat stable in CM 10.1.3?
Alternatively, can I still flash the fuse scripts? Or will that break something else? Or is exfat better in the 10.2 nighties?
Thanks!

I have the same card, and I ended up reformatting it to FAT32 so that GL to SD would work. I hadn't even tried using my TB before the reformat, as I had tried copying my 32GB Sandisk Ultra to it in exfat and nothing really worked correctly. Things like Acer Video Player didn't seem to like the exfat format either.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm trying to avoid fat32. Before it hit the bugged emmc, my old nook was used for videos and its a big pain to split movies. I can also report that folder mount (similar to GL to SD) doesn't work with exfat on the CM 10.1. I am trying to find out how to disable fuse on the CM rom so I can flash the fuse scripts which I used previously and work fine. Tried straight flashing it and it was very unstable.

I am using my 64gb Sandisk for games and emulator games, hence the GL to SD and such. I plan on using the USB hosting to stream stored videos from a flash drive / card reader / usb hdd on the go, or try one of those mini network wireless media streamers for no wires. At home I use Emit to stream from my 'server' pc ( 6TB storage ).

Yeah, been there. We're straying off topic but its my thread so its ok . I've been on the hunt for things like this since I was on a Palm Pilot. In my experience, contrived USB host works but its very inconvenient on the go. The cable is unwieldy (in Nook's case very long) and the connections/adapters/etc are a PIA to manage unless you have a purse and a stable situation (like a table or something). I have an iUSBport which is basically a wireless/wifi USB host port. It woks great and I am happy with it (even a 1TB self powered USB hard drive no problem), but again kind of a pain to use on the go.
I think you may find that these solutions work great for traveling and in your hotel at night and situations like that, but day to day its far more convenient to have a few movies and TV shows on your microSD (TV shows are under the 4GB limit, so no issues). For example, have you ever watched a movie on the subway? Spotty 4G, no room to run cables, one of many situations where work arounds just don't work.
I use plex great on other tabs, and its been the best solution though not perfect, but on the Nook it only has wifi, so without 4G its pretty useless on the go (tethering to the phone works but again a pain). In house, its no problem and all TBs of my media server are available (I am somewhere around 75TBs these days ).
IDK, I don't find existing work arounds compelling and I try everything I see. I bought the iUSBport (called iCloudFTP or something then) via a Kickstarter and was excited to see the concept in retail. The one exception is that my Acer tab (getting older now though) has a normal usb 2.0 port right in its side. Its the only solution I find that works great with non-internal storage. Wish everyone did that. I give Asus and others credit as they do it on the keyboard dock which is a dream for traveling but I find, for example in the subway scenario, the keyboard can be more of a hindrance than a benefit as it is essentially a really big accessory.
