Micro SDHC advice ? - Nexus 10 Accessories

Tried searching but didnt find anything that is less than 1 year old.
Ordered a micro usb adapter for my n10 and now looking to get a card.
I mostly use this to store my backups (titanium) and watch movies when plugged in a TV.
I think I should go with class 6 and up ?
Any advice on where to buy for cheapest/best quality
Would like 32gb and up.
Amazon, ebay anything goes.
Thank you.

This the one I'm using in my Acer A500 tablet

[Q] Micro SDHC Upgrade

Morning XDA,
Just had a quick question about your opinions on micro SDHC cards.
The 2GB that Sprint gave me is quickly filling up, and so I'm deciding to go up to an 8GB
Any cards (type/model) you recommend and which ones cause any problems?

I'm not too sure about the 8GB cards but I bought a 16GB Class 10 SDHC card from Newegg.com for pretty cheap ($35.99).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=16gb_sdhc_class_10-_-20-220-546-_-Product
It performs great and I haven't had a single problem with it. I also notice that my HD videos that are recorded aren't as choppy.
I have the exact same card and I definitely recommend it. Also did some speed tests on it and its definitely a class 10

Well I'm on a budget (under $20) and looking at just 8GB Class 4 or 6
This is mostly just to upgrade storage space
I appreciate the suggestions though
There was a 16GB Class 10 from Wintec on New Egg for $24 and change. If you're going to spend $20 go a few more. The class makes a difference and you will notice it.

Oh nice. Yeah I've been looking around Newegg but have been basing judgement on reviews. I'll definitely look into that one.
Backups take up most of my space.
I got this 8 gig. class 6 card on Amazon for about 17 bucks (I was able to bundle it with something else to get free shipping). I find it's just fine for holding some music and app files. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026L7DG0

That's actually the same one I added to my cart at Newegg ($15.75 w/ Free Shipping)
I'm not THAT stingy between the price disparities, just saw it on NE first.
I bought this 8GB Class 6 @ amazon a while ago.. best SD Card I have bought yet..
$23.95
What I like the best is that it comes with a USB Adapter instead of the SD Card Adapter.

In my best buy in atl we just recently got class 10 micro 8gb for 25. It's a sale price but sometimes they last a while.

For you guys who upgraded.....
Are the cards formatted out of the box, and "plug-n-play", or do they require additional steps before being read by the phone? I purchased (against my better judgement) a Sandisk 8GB Class 4 card last week, and the phone didn't even recognize the new card. Currently running CM7, so I though the ROM may be the issue, but I nandroided back to Stock, and the card wasn't recognized on that one either. So I just took it back (the card).
I'd like to upgrade, since yes, the backups do take a substantial amount of space, but I'd rather get a card that I can just plug in and go.

If you're talking about the PNY card, the Best Buy website is showing this as a new item in my local store for $29.99 ($49.99 for 16gb). I'm going to run over there after work and see if they're on sale.
Here is the card I got for me and my wife's Shift. They have been reliable.

$16.99 with free shipping. 8GB Class 6 card. Great reviews.
Edit - LOL I see you have already looked at this card...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211518
seems to be out of stock right now, but I was scared to try it after the reviews I read. But definitely works good. There's a flashable zip somewhere to change the SD cache or something and it worked out pretty well
This is a little off topic from my original question, but it's still accessories related
I honestly don't like the charger that came with this phone; juts out of the wall to far and I don't like how it's two parts. I'll definitely keep the cable for computer connectivity though.
I was browsing Amazon and I've seen a couple flat retractable prong ones and I can never seem to find cord length. Plus compatibility issues in terms of voltage output
Need a one piece charge, with a nice lengthy cord, and compact prong style
Any recommendations?
pretty much any micro USB cable will charge the phone. As for charger, I've been using AC chargers for ipod touch and all of them worked with the phone. From my experience, HTC phones tend to be not very picky when it comes to chargers.
Sandisk has never failed me Transcend has.

Not bad for the cost but I'm always hesitant after reading reviews especially if other Android users rated it 1/5 with reason
No Android users rated it 1/5. The 1/5 were for people who never received their rebate, and Linux users.

i am thinking about getting one of these drives, being that i has its own battery and does wifi, i figured i can charge it in the car, charge in office/home and use it all day long when i am outside
reviews doesn't look so bad, i plan on putting only media and nothing personal on it, so security won't be an issue, thoughts?
Wow great find! I'll have to think about getting one of these! Thanks!

I use a 500GB NAS drive with XMBC - allows me to stream all my movies, music to my Nexus 7 over my home Wi-Fi.
The only good thing about this is that you can take it out, although my NAS drive still could be moved to different houses.
Thanks to your review just ordered 1 but I made sure I use my Amex instead of gift card balance for double warranty

I just picked up a Pogoplug basic for $30 once all said and done. Since I already have a few external HD this was a good option for me. I signed up for one year of Pogoplug family, and get the device for free. Not exactly the same product, but might be worth checking out for someone.:good:
Root your 7 and use StickMount and OTG Mini USB cable to mount a USB Flash Drive. I got a Kingston 64GB USB 3.0 drive for $75. I got USB 3.0 to speed up transfers from my computer to the USB drive...obviously usb 3.0 doesn't do anything for the 7 (but it is backward compatible). Currently the only downside is you have to reboot after you unplug it in order for it to recognize it again.
Mini USB OTG cable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GGBYJ4/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
The Kingston Drive: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital-DataTraveler-DTE30-64GB/dp/B007PRHNJ2/
And you can find StickMount on the Play store.
Of course, this only works for one Nexus 7...so if you need more than one person to access the drive...the OP's suggestion is better.

I picked up the 16GB on Amazon for $39 (now it's $49). I like to go camping and drive long distances, the size should be good enough for media to keep me and or the kids happy without tethering and risking using insane amounts of data.
If only I can access the files and folders DIRECTLY (AFP, SMB, etc) without the Seagate app, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.
I've played with the WiDrive and it work pretty good. It was the 32gb version. They now make a 128gb version.
I wish they had a version that allowed you to insert an sdcards into it.

Can't be formatted into NTFS. It's stuck in fat32. Fail
I mentioned it in a similar thread to this as well, but I have gone ahead and ordered one since then. Look up the Patriot Gauntlet Node if you already have some loose 2.5in HDDs or SSDs sitting around. A tiny bit more expensive considering that it does not come with a drive...but worth it if you understand its flexibility.
Found it for $100 on amazon and I have a nice 320gb Toshiba that I took out of my laptop recently to start using with it. I will probably upgrade to a 256gb SSD once they drop below $150.

Why aren't there low profile flash drives with micro-USB connectors?

Something like the one below with a micro-usb connector instead.
I would think some manufacturer could make a killing in the phone/tablet market...
Agreed, that's a great idea, maybe nobody has actually thought about it who works in the industry? Stranger things have happened.

Kickstarter, buddy. Make your own and make your millions at the same time.
So I bought this Microusb flash drive/ microsd card reader from Amazon to try with my Nexus 10. It's not low profile, but it is pretty small.

I can get the 4 gb flash drive to work using either Nexus Media Importer or Stick Mount, but I cannot get the microsd to show up. It works fine in my Galaxy S3 in both ICS and Jellybean. Has anyone else tried this product? Any ideas to get one of those apps (or another one) to read a device that has both a usb flash drive and microsd card? This device could be the answer to my storage problems on the Nexus 10 if only I can get it to read the microsd card! Thanks!

I already got 2 of those and they work fine with NMI - just looking for something that won't block the headphone jack. One of those with the micro-usb connector reversed would at least go in the other direction and leave the headphone jack accessible.

I'm trying to avoid something that sticks out too far. If you drop the N10 or bang it on something with that connected, it could really stress (or even break) the micro-usb jack.
I only need the flash drive/card reader to watch movies. I'm ok with it jutting out some as long as I can get it to work. I'm surprised no one else has found this item with all the people looking for microusb flash drives.

If it doesn't exist (yet), that makes it kinda hard to find.
I just ordered this from ebay. It's not specifically described as OTG but it does say it's 5-pin, so I'm hopeful. At least it will leave the headphone jack accessible.
The point of my earlier post is that micro-usb flash drives do exist, and you can buy them from amazon. It may not be small enough for you, but it is still pretty small and light and could be a good option for people who do not want to build their own or be stuck using a cable.
The problem is that I still can't get it to read the microsd card. It is only reading the flash memory part on my Nexus 10. My Galaxy S3 can read the 4 gig internal memory and the 32 gig microsd card.

Sorry - I was still referring to a low profile flash drive, as pictured in the OP and another poster's picture. I have seen the ones you're referring to, and I'm just paranoid about it sticking out that far. The right angled adapter I posted above (assuming it works as OTG) would at least keep the flash drive running parallel to the edge of the N10, rather that sticking out perpendicular to it.
I just bought one of the SanDisk Fit drives you used as an example, and while I haven't looked at it closely, my guess is that the bulk of its "guts" are actually stuffed in the USB connector itself (pretty sure I've run across MicroSD card readers that worked this way) and therefore wouldn't fit into a similar package with a micro usb connector.

Recommended SD Card?

I have a 32 GB "class-10" SD card that I got from eBay for 17bucks, shows "HC" on the card, so I guess that's who it's by? It's supposedly class 10but I don't by it. Saving stuff to it doesn't always work, my phone says "Unable to save screenshot. Mass storage may be full".
This doesn't make sense as I have 28gigs left. I have 2gigs internal left. Do you think it's because I have a cheap SD cars or my phone/Rom is messed up? I'm running Beans 6.
Anyways! What class-10 micro SD cars do you guys recommend?

What?... lol jk anyways. HC means high capacity. And from what it sounds like you might have gotten ripped off. Ebay and amazon and basically any online store that isn't a reputable store(not saying they're not but you got more bad eggs than good ones online) is known for selling counterfeit sdcards. Or whatever the term may be. These are cars that are made to look like they're 32 gb when in reality they're 4. But I'd format and check it out on a pc first. And the card I would recommend is a samsung class 10 you can't go wrong with Samsung. The only con might be pricing if thats the case then go for sandisk but beware sandisk has about a 15% chance of being defective judging by the reviews.

Missing expandable storage?

I had a 64GB microSD card that was doing nothing more than sitting since the LG G2 does not have a microSD slot. I picked up a small OTG reader and now I have almost 90GB of storage! Really nice design, micro USB OTG on one end and standard USB on the other to use with a computer.
2-in-1 USB MicroSD OTG
About $3 shipped, reads 64GB cards (specifically SanDisk Ultra 64GB XC1 class), was seeing 30MB/second reads and 10MB/second writes from the computer. The phone has no problem reading the card and there is a headphone plug to keep the reader attached to the phone. It does seem a little flimsy, but for its size and cost I am still very pleased.

I've been ordering from dx.com for years, never a problem. You will wait and wait for the shipment, but it will get here. If there is a problem they will fix it, for $3 you might want to get more than one. There are many other OTG adapters there as well, search OTG and sort by price, low to high, and release date to see more options, there are even some android shaped ones.
I ordered and received these before posting, I will test it once I get my phone replaced. It decided to "die" last night, reboots, gets to lock screen, freezes then reboots, even reverted to stock rom with the same issue. Going to swap it at a Sprint store today.

It looks awesome as well.

I have micro USB to female USB OTG adapter and it works. Have been very interested in the Meenova.com one. Think I am going to order it.
Sony has recently release a double port USB and microUSB pendrive. It seems to me like a good solution

I also have the meenova. It's a bit more money but its tiny and works great. I also like the Kickstarter program.
