Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G network 4G/3G - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

I live in Dominican Republic and use this phone with Claro RD with 850 freq, for some reason i installed a jellybean slimroms rom and my internet was H+ but when i returned to gingerbread software it only says 3G, do any of you know how to get this phone to show 4G or at least H+ with 2.3.6 stock software?

i may not explain this right, but it has something to do with how its coded. u still get 4G but just shows on 3G. there is a patch to show it back as 4G

HSDPA is "3.5G" and therefor some roms classify it as 3G, some roms classify it as H, some roms classify it as 4G.
There is a zip file floating in one of the rom threads that appends the 3G icon into a 4G icon, but it's only cosmetic, there's no actual difference in speed for any of the roms, it's just which icon it shows.

interesting prompted me to look into the difference in cellular data tech didn't know there was a difference before

[Q] Milestone never receives EDGE?

Im on t-mobile and for some reason i never ever get edge, even if on 2G only. Only ever receive GPRS which is so slow... Help would be great thanks.
Anybody?

Are you running stock? If you arent, make sure you have the correct baseband set through recovery. (AOR forsure has this option)

In my own country, some Telco GSM network are using GPRS instead of EDGE for their 2G mode and WCDMA/UMTS for their 3G mode.
The telco that I am specifically using in my country offers EDGE for their 2G mode and HSDPA as their 3G mode.

Is it possible to make a rooted captivate show 4g instead of 3g

And its possible to actually get At&t 4G speeds with an i9000 based rom/kernel/modem
no. hardware does not support 4g.
you can however get hspa on I9000 modems, which is up to twice as fast as regular 3g.

technically ATT doesnt have real 4G, so HSPA is pretty close to what ATT calls 4G

[Q] connected to edge instead of hsdpa, how can i prevent that?

hello
i've been googling this for a couple of hours now and i cant seem to find how to solve my problem
i was with my gf today, she has a S3. we are both connected to the same network operator. my signal was E , hers was H .. i went to system settings->about phone->status on both phones and compared signal strength and it was about the same.
my brother's iphone 4s almost always have much faster internet when i'm connected to edge (that means he's not on edge) - he's also connected to the same network operator.
its driving me crazy , why won't my cappy stay connected to hsdpa when its possible? how can i change that ? (WCDMA is preferred, baseband selection is automatic)
i'm using I9000XXJVT modem. was using slim bean rom 4.2.2 build 2.5 (now i'm on build 3) . unofficial semaphore kernel.
about my network operator technology from wikipedia (its a virtual operator):
"Its network is an HSPA+[citation needed] network in the 2100Mhz band, with roaming also available on Cellcom's 1800Mhz GSM[6] and 850Mhz/2100Mhz HSPA+ network."
any help would be appreciated.
The Captivate's Network Frequencies and Data Type: GSM Quadband:850/900/1800/1900MHz
UMTS Tri-band:850/1900/2100MHz

type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and then go to phone info, scroll down a little bit and you'll see it .. there is no UMTS there ..
i forgot to mention that I DO GET CONNECTED to hsdpa when there is good signal , but when there is low signal it switches automatically to edge , and i always thought thats normal and its ok , but today i got really surprised , 2 iphones + 1 sgs3 , that were on the same network operator were having much faster internet than i had. i had 2 E bars , the s3 had 2 H bars. and as i said before the s3 had just about the same signal strength (dBm and asu)
thanks for the reply though
Sounds like the iphone 4s and sgs 3 are probably connecting to the 4g network.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
as far as i know there is no 4g in my country yet + the s3 is the international version so it doesnt support 4g anyway (im pretty sure its the same with the iphone)

my network provider supports hsdpa on 850 and 2100mhz and edge on 1800mhz, i still want the 1800mhz where there is no 850/2100mhz signal , but i want it to be 3rd priority (where 850 and 2100 are the first 2 priorities)
theoretically WCDMA preferred should do what i want , but its not. thats whats driving nuts..
thanks for the replies
oh man.. i said it myself , my network provider supports 850mhz .. i'm using i9000 modem , which doesn't support 850mhz hsdpa .. this could be it .. is there any way to check on which band i'm connected right now ?
EDIT: the answer is *#*#0011#*#* .. i'll check this out later when the scenario happens again, and i'll post results (i'm home now and i have full hsdpa signal here, so i cant investigate any further atm)

Today I Watched My Nexus 4 Get Genuinely Confused

So I'm on a road trip, and I brought my N4 (on T-Mobile USA) along for the ride. I decided to stay the night in Savannah, GA. After checking into my hotel, I took my phone out of my pocket and saw something I've never seen before. It was showing a data connection as "3G" rather than the usual "H" for HSPA or "E" for EDGE. I had to do a double take. Curious, I went to Settings-About Phone-Status and checked the network type. It was "UMTS:3". Obviously that means T-Mobile's network refarming has happened here and 1900 MHz UMTS is live.
Here's the thing, though. The radio keeps switching between "3G" and "H" every few seconds, seemingly unable to figure out which one it wants to hold onto. The phone is still usable but I still find it annoying. Of course, the vast majority of T-Mobile phones would never experience this since they hardly ever have support for 1900 MHz, but I'm curious if other N4 owners living in areas where T-Mobile has lit up 1900 MHz UMTS are having this issue as well? In the end, the phone may be usable, but the constant switching is playing hell on my OCD!!

At least the refarming is done where you're at, I'm still impatiently waiting.

Yeah but at this rate I'm hoping they either fix this in a Nexus 4 radio update (maybe make it prefer HSPA over UMTS, but I don't know if that would cause problems outside the US), or never light it up in my home market. haha

I just came from Verizon of 12 years and a gs3. I'm on umts at my home in rural Atlanta ga. It does the same switching as you say. I just thought that was normal gsm behavior .... phone is idle then 3g is active. Phone queries the net (open browser etc...) and H kicks in.
On another note the H speeds here are almost equal to vzw lte, I'm impressed

I just noticed you're in Durham, I'm in Winston.
Has the refarm taken effect by you?
My phone does this then pulls the h on demand I am in Detroit metro area. I still pull high download speeds and don't have a problem with the change over. Honestly until I read this post I thought this was normal. Do do a speed test see if it is slower or faster then your use to.

No it hasn't, and hopefully it won't before there's a radio update to fix it (if they'd even bother fixing it)!

I have had my N4 for only a couple months, but it has been doing that ever since I got it. I am in the Farmington, MO area too though. I thought it was just normal, as this is the first time I have had a decent phone and be on a plan rather than prepay.
Mine has always behaved like that. My nexus one and gnex too.

I'm on all stock and I've never seen the 3G label. I'm out here in Portland, OR, and SLC, UT. I just figured our phones were only capable of G, E, and H labels.

I find it wierd that you've never seen the 3G label. Normally you camp on 3G (UMTS) and it'll flip to "H" for HSPA+ when data's transferring either up, down, or both. This has been normal over the years, until there were modifications on T-Mobile's side to display 4G all the time for devices that were HSPA+ capable.

This never happened on my G2 nor my Nexus S. The only way that happened on the Nexus S was when running a custom ROM.

GS2, Samsung edited to reflect 4G. Most customers would be perplexed by the constant camping on 3G, then flipping to H (HSPA+ which is branded as T-Mobile 4G), so the just modified their network bits in their OS to reflect 4G all the time. As far as the Nexus S, that's just a 3G device not capable of the HSPA+ bandwidth (it topped out at 7mbps).

I always have a H when idle and H+ when using the Internet. Never seen 3G label on my N4 till date

Yeah on the G2, the Froyo ROM showed H all the time, never 3G. For the Gingerbread ROM, though, it was changed to show 2G and 4G.

Could redact differently based on the carrier and/or cell tower. Here's a conversation from the Galaxy Nexus forums.

Sounds like you're running an AOSP rom on your N2. 3G for UMTS, H for HSPA+, and 4G for the LTE. If you were on a stock TMo ROM, it'd be 4G for UMTS and HSPA+, then 4G LTE for LTE.
Important to note is that the status bar icons ate just that. . .icons. You could actually modify these to display whatever you wanted. If I wanted it to say 8G when on LTE, I'd just have to make a custom icon and bake it in. Doesn't mean I actually have an 8G network.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
thats normal behavior, it changes to H when there is data flow. it just depends on the area and the signal/coverage in the area. on a custom rom, i see it change from a H to a H+ all the time(when data is flowing). rarely, i see a 3G.

LTE question

I know our phones Hardware is exactly the same as the att note so my question is.. If it's identical hardware wise and with tmobile now has LTE wouldn't our phone be able to access the LTE? I'm on 10.1 and there is an apn that says tmobile LTE and I selected that. and in preferred network I put it on LTE/GSM/WCDMA... and the data all works and it does seem to be faster. I did a speed test and got 5 mpbs. I usually get 3-4....maybe I got partial LTE?? any expert advice is embraced! Thank you

I think you have to patch the radio to get it and even then, your battery takes a hit. I get a constant 10mbps down here in Los Angeles using the stock radio on HSPA+. If you are just changing your APN settings without patching, I'm not sure you are getting anything from LTE, especially if it's only 5 mbps.
