Some apps just won't install. Tried multiple sources, releases etc. Rooted, not rooted. Always the same message: "application not installed"
My only guess is permission conflicts may be blocking complete installation?
Anyone found a work around for this?

What apps are you trying to install?
I've found a few that wouldn't install & it was because of missing .jar files & libs that the Kindle doesn't ship with, after finding out what an app needed I added them required files & it installed OK but many still have compatibility issues & just stop working, mainly those that rely on Google Maps & location services, not much can be done I don't think.
I would like to install voxer on here but it doesn't let me. Would you know how to?

Have you tried manually placing the .apk in the /system/app/ folder and changing the permissions?

Doesn't seem to work. I am rooted.
I've updated to the latest patches that are available in the app, rebooted as it suggests to do, and I still get ads in my apps.
Is this not working for Honeycomb yet? Anyone else had any luck with it.
ive been using it and its working fine for me.
Works fine here too.
Well, I just rooted yesterday and mine is not working either. I have tried on stock browser and other sites, and the ads are continuing to come through.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and/or how to correct it?
I had the same problem, so I switched to the ad blocker in jrummy's DROID overclock app (-> extras). Works well.

I've tried that one, and it doesn't work either.
not rooted yet so I haven't tried, but have you rebooted since install?
More than a few times.
I am having the same issue. Maybe someone will come thru with An answer soon
you have to click app then click update and install the new host then it will work

Tried all that awhile back, and it's still a no go. Nothing seems to work.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
I use a hosts file instead of an app. Just rename the attached to just hosts copy the attached to /system/etc and overwrite the existing done (not quite you have to reboot). No app required. Use an app if you want I just don't see the need to and I include this in my ROM.
Hit thanks if this helps, if not then hit the no thanks.

It tells me I cannot paste the file because that is a read only folder.
I found out how to overwrite the file, and and it works.
FINALLY!
It's a not 100%, and but 80% of the ads are gone, and and that's good for me. Thanks for the assist.
After receiving my Google Music invite I attempted to download it from the market. It refuses to install with the error, "Package file was not signed correctly". I've tried sideloading also and it does not work. Do I need to delete my old music.apk first?

You might just want to paste it where the current Music.apk is on your phone.
That would update it.
I've downloaded the apk from XDA but it has a different name than music.apk. Could someone send me the apk from their working version?

No more drinking and modding. It apparently affects my abilities. Thanks. It works now.
I installed it on my Nexus One and then grabbed the APK with Titanium Backup. I can install it on my Xoom and run it, but it won't let me login, etc. because the device isn't supported. I thought I'd post it in case any of you know how to tinker with it to remove the device compatibility check.
They got hulu working in browser, Hope they can get this app working.
You would think netflix and hulu would have released a app for tablets by now. It would benefit on both partys as far as sales so why they havent yet is beyond me.... -_-

At a guess, because they're having to work with multiple vendors for hardware DRM because that's what the media holders require.
That, and JNI/C++/Android NDK developers with enough experience to do the necessary coding are extremely hard to find. We may be having to wait while each vendor ramps one of their developers up on the necessary technologies.

What was your problem, did anything error out? I'm the one who wrote the article.
I used sed to make it easier (cut and paste) I could tell you a more manual way of doing it.

I think you misunderstood the post (and I'm sorry if you did). This was just to make it show up in the Market. This wouldn't make the app itself allow playback if you got the error message.
Some devices do work that aren't supported (for example my Nook Color running CM7) so it makes me think that there has to be some way to get around the check, but unfortunately, that's beyond my skill set.
That makes more sense and I misunderstood your post.

Worked for me too. Too bad we can't force the app to landscape.
I have no idea on how to use that script.
Could you guys back up the app with TB and re upload here?

This method may be a little easier for you. I tested it and it seemed to work just fine.
Directions:
1. Delete Hulu Plus if you have it installed already.
2. Delete any backups you may have of it in Titanium Backup.
3. Get Titanium Backup if you don't already have it.
4. Download this file and unzip it, there will be 3 folders in it.
5. Place all 3 folders in the sdcard/TitaniumBackup folder
6. Launch Titanium Backup and restore the backup.
7. Enjoy?
And of course I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong and blah blah blah.
PLEASE NOTE: You can't use "Ad Free" or anything that modifies hosts for this, or the videos won't load.
^
Bruh, that worked perfectly. Thanks
Can we get hbogo the same way?

I just tried this and still got the "Device is not supported..." message. I'm running rooted stock 3.2. Did I do something wrong?
Did you make sure you removed all instances of previous hulu plus installs? I am running Tiamat 2.1 and it is working for me but I used Root Explorer to delete all hulu plus data before attempting the steps.

I had this problem a few days ago. When I'm choosing to install an App from an APK-File, the Installer opens, asks me if I'm ok with the rights for the app. Then there are the two Buttons "Cancel" and "Install". But I just can't press "Install". It's not greyed out.
Last time, I just deleted data from the Installer and rebooted. This fixed it at least for one installation, because I didn't install any other app. Actually it was the Amazon Market Place.
Does anybody have the same Problem? I'm a little confused, because it had worked. But, when I tried to solve the problem as described above, it just didn't work again..
I also didn't find an issue which looked similar to this. Even updating the Firmware didn't help..
Any suggestion?
Settings/security/ check unknown sources
If that doesn't work then the apk file is not signed

I hate how much hangouts lag and I know that the 8sms app from the play store is pretty close to a stock messaging app, but does anyone know why installing the mms.apk from CM11 or Gummy 4.4.2 wouldn't work? On both of them I get an "App not installed" message when I try to run them straight out of es file explorer. Is there something that I am missing?

No problem. The error was caused by the file permissions. Repackaging the ROM with that apk is the fast, easy, and painless way of getting it installed with the proper permissions.

For future reference, you can drop the APK in /system/app then go into CWM > advanced > fix permissions.
