Dual boot CM10.1 / stock app storage space - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to set up the dual boot stock / cm10.1 hybrid. I followed Diogenes5's step by step instructions and everything seemed to be working fine, but for some reason I can't install some apps. I've got tons of storage on both the device and card, but I keep getting the 'Insufficient storage available' when installing a larger one (i.e. google chrome). I've got 500MB free on the 1.478GB data partition where the other apps are installed.
I tried starting from scratch and reinstalling, but the same thing happened. I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong because I didn't see anybody else posting this problem.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Installation error Insufficient storage available

Is anyone else having issues with Market on the ADP 1.51 (CRB43) builds?
When I attempted to download an update to an existing app (GV) it downloads but when it tried to install "Installation error Insufficient storage available"
I have apps2sd and I've removed the stock ringtones from the build giving me only 89% of used space in /system directory and I have about 600mb free on my ext2 partition. Insufficient storage my a$$!
Anyone else have issues with this "Insufficient storage" error?
Do you have the cache etc all running off the SD? Apps is only one step, where it installs the apps to the SD. However unless the cache and so is moved, its like having firefox installed on one drive, but storing your browsing stuff on your main drive still. So youll run out of room unless its all on the SD.

Yeah. Cache is also on SD. Just to be certain, I cleared the cache. Same issue.
I'm assuming your using the app to put things on the sd. I used lucids script to do it to mine. I wonder if something did not get linked over. Tried using a file manager to see what's on the internal?

After clearing the cache and discovering that it didn't work (just for the heck of it I also cleared the cache directory on SD) I tried a wipe and everything downloads again. I fastboot flash my data.img and I'm back to the same issues. Not sure what the problem is but I'm considering a wipe. I already backed everything up by backup pro. I just loathing the fact that Market will loose all the apps that I had installed already (they will all say FREE instead of INSTALLED or UPDATE AVAILABLE). Is there a file for market that marks what has been downloaded/installed?
The tip Id recommend. Try Lucids script for moving the data and cache before doing anything. Since if your ready to wipe, cant hurt to try and see if it does it.
Next do the pre tip I did personally. I used atrackdog, Hit menu and do export, it saves to a .txt file. Open that file and you will know which apps YOU had on there vs everything in the my downloads.
I wish I could help more as far as cache and why its not working fully. Ive had my share of struggles and always lucked out.. which is why I hope the 1st option works for you.

Here is the answer!! i have the same problem, i tried to get out the sd card, and it worked(app installs succcesfully)!!
THE PROBLEM IS: EXT2 PARTITION (android do that.. wrong) the ext partition was causing the problem in the installation
1. download minitool partition wizard(or use a working partition tool)!
2. in recovery(volume down and boot phone into recovery) a, go into usb mode(mount and storage/usb mode) (if you have old recovery, download the 4.0...... i cant remember but the newest what you can find)
you have seen 2 partition and its crap!
3. creat 1 partition FAT32 PRIMARY! and format the SD card! (with all storage) this is all you need on your droid!!!(and your music, pictures and apps too)
4. after that, take rom on the SD and install it.
AND APP INSTALLATIoN WORKS!
Not the same phone but for what it's worth this does not appear to be hardware specific. This problem for me was caused by the Google app sync. As soon as it got too many apps in the install queue, it breaks and thinks the drive is full. I was able to fix it by going into recovery and clearing the cache again on my LG P999.

Nexus One won't install apps

I've never had a problem with my Nexus one with any of the cyanogen roms, but when I updated to RC2, now my phone won't install apps. It'll download fine, but will freeze at the "installing" part. I've wiped and reverted to my nandroid backup, but now it won't install any apps from the market. I've searched the forum and I've tried, wiping everything and flashed RC1 and RC2, still no luck. Is anybody else having this problem and is there a fix? Please advise, thanks.
This happens to me about 50% of the time when changing ROMS. Try going to settings>applications>market> Force stop, then CLEAR DATA & CLEAR CACHE. Then next time you open the market you will get the terms of service again and you should be able to download and install. Hope that works for you.
(It could be related to the phone having too many processes to do immediately after flashing as well, so give it a few minutes to catch up as well.)
I tried that method and it didn't work for me, however I did find a similar post and they mentioned to delete the folders .android_secure , Android, download, LOST.DIR on the SD card. That actually fixed the problem, hope this helps other people.
I found today I couldn't install apps, got a "Not enough space" dialog... My SD card was 100% full, must download to the SD card temporarily. Whoops.

[Q] Issue with internal storage

Hello, hope I'm posting right. My phone has stock rom (4.0.4 LRK) with stock kernel. Today suddenly, can't tell why, I started experiencing strange issues with the internal storage. I can see, access and even write on /sdcard (I've just done a backup in a folder there with Titanium), same on my pc, but shortly after I boot, some apps start disappearing or to show up as grey icons, I can't move them from phone memory to sd card or viceversa, i can't unistall them, and i can't even install new apps.
Also, every action that requires to load the app list (like looking for cache to clean) fails on most cases. It's like the memory card was okay, but something was wrong with the apps installed.
What's happening?
first of all, move to a safe kernel... then either do a format using pc and put the data back. or do a factory reset in CWM recovery and reinstall apps using tb
I found out the problem was the external sd card after all but thanks anyway, you can close!
Please move to safe kernel

[Q] HTC One - Couldn't Install on USB Storage or SD Card

Hey,
I purchased the Swiftkey.
after the update to 4.4.2 it stopped working and after reinstalling He wrote me a message that the installation failed.

I have searched all over the internet and found two possible solutions, which don't work. These solutions were:
Unmount the SD card. Install app, remount the SD card. This won't work as the HTC One does not have an SD card
In the secure/asec folder, find and delete "smdl2tmp1.asec". Although I found the folder, it was empty and therefore I was unable to delete the file.
*Before update Swiftkey is worked.
This same thing is happening to me on my One with 4.4.2, none of my purchased apps installed before the update appear and I can't reinstall any of them. Tried both of those, didn't work.

Same thing is happening with my HTC one Google play edition 4.4.2.
I did a mass install from the playstore, and all of a sudden i start getting flooded with "Couldn't Install on USB Storage or SD Card" errors. I looked for the 'smdl2tmp1.asec' file and had no luck finding it.
a df of the system shows free space on all partitions: http://i.imgur.com/4IiVLjy.png
I was able to 'adb install rootexplorer.apk' and it was successfull, but the update from the playstore gives the above error.
I did not understand, you can find the file smdl2tmp1.asec?
And what command you noted in the screenshot you attached?
I'm having the same issue. Updated HTC One GPE to 4.4.2 and noticed that some of my apps were missing. I tried to download again from the Play Store, only to receive the "Couldn't Install on USB Storage or SD Card" error message popup.
For what it's worth.. I switched to CM 11 4.2.2 (nightlies) and the storage error went away. I would still love to know whats causing the error in the Google play edition rom.
I posted this in another thread but I figured I would repeat it here since there seems to be a lot of people having this problem.
I had tried all of the methods on the web to fix it but none of them applied to the HTC One. The only way I was able to get rid of the error was to flash the 4.4.2 update using the stock recovery. I had tried with TWRP three times but everytime I kept getting that error message with a bunch of my apps.

Yes there seem to be two threads running on this. I have the same problem that I posted on the other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48618286
I too have TWRP so I wonder if it is related to that?
Nick
Update: I was flashed sinlessrom (Google play edidtion 4.2.2) with TWRP, and ran into 0 storage issues. It sounds like it's not related to 4.2.2 directly, but maybe the 4.2.2 OTA update bundled by HTC?
same problem
Just like the first post i bought swiftkey that worked on 4.4 and after the OTA 4.4.2 i can not install it anymore.
Now I want to install threema and it's the same...
can some one verify that it has something to do with apps we bought?
i bought another app... same issue
playstore cache wiped
dalvik wiped
cache wiped
can not find smdl2tmp1.asec which was mentioned in many boards

I had this same problem it effected all my paid apps. I couldn't install on sd card or internal storage from play store, I could restore them from titanium backup but then updates would fail with the same error.
interestingly it didn't happen to me when I updated to ARHD 4.2.2 custom Rom. But a month or so later when my carrier released their 4.2.2 OTA. Which I extracted firmware.zip. from and flashed manually. So maybe it's a firmware issue.
I can't say exactly what fixed it but after trying the usual clearing caches, uninstalling play store updates etc. I decided to do a full wipe. After making a backup with twrp 2.6.3.3 and backup of internal storage to my pc i wiped everything all partitions including internal storage.
Then connected usb in recovery and
unmount all partitions with twrp menu
adb shell
e2fsck -fvy /dev/block/mmcblk0p35
To ensure there were no partition errors on my internal storage. Then adb push and reflashed ARHD clean setup as normal then tried to install my paid apps and it worked. [emoji106][emoji1]
After that I restored all my other apps and setting with titanium and all was right with the world once more
Maybe it needed the clean install after firmware update or maybe there was indeed some type of error with my internal storage but something about that procedure fixed it for me. Hope it helps somebody good luck.
Windows users be aware wipeing your phone this way may cause problems with drivers and adb to fail. Please be carefull !!!! I use Linux so drivers are not a problem for me.

[Q] ExistenZ Ultra 3.1.5

Did a search but could not find this issue and cannot post on dev thread for ROM so i posting here if wrong place i sorry.
OK the issue, after updating to 3.0 of ultra i cant update any apps as it keeps spitting out "Insufficient Storage Available" which is a crock of ..........as i have 1.57GB out of a total of 5.37GB available on internal plus external sd card with 12GB available but not relevant as apps on internal with 1.57GB available. Have updated to 3.1.5 but still the same and also unable to install any apps, yet i have less apps on it now than prior the 3.0 as i was generally running under a GB space before. Memory running at about 300MB out of 840MB
Any help or pointers or criticism for not searching far and wide enough to find a answer gracefully accepted
Churchnilled
Clear playstore datas in settings/apps/all
Also reboot a few times, wipe dalvik cache and cache.
No Joy
Thank you kind Sir for your superb roms and your help.
I did as you said but am still having the same problem.
Anything else i can try?
Have you made full wipe before installing eXistenZ??
Have you made backups via CWM Recovery before??
For example I have made a backup with CWM recovery which wasn't seen by other recoveries or system himself.
I had to install CWM recovery once again and only this one seen two backups which take me about more than 2GB internal storage.
After fresh install (with full wipes, also internal storage) fresh eXistenZ + 22 apps which I have installed after I have 4.05GB free space on internal storage and no problems with install anything.
Narrowing it down a bit

Hi thank you for the reply,
I have not used CWM to create backup's i have only ever used Titanium but the issue is slightly different as the amount of free space is correct.
I think i have narrowed it down somewhat as i am able to install apps from Play store that have never been on the phone before the issue appears to be apps that are already on the phone can not be updated, i have uninstalled ones needing updating except for Chrome and NDR Utils as it wont allow me to uninstall them so i have frozen them for time being, i then rebooted and tried to reinstall them but even with them uninstalled it is still spitting out the "insufficient Storage" error
so my thinking is something is being left from uninstalling that is causing the issue as like i said above i can install anything else from Play store that has not been on phone before, for example i installed links2sd after it spat out the insufficient storage error for a previously installed app i tried installing again i have plenty of internal storage available for apps and it letting me install stuff that not been on phone before but wont let me update or reinstall stuff on or has been on phone before.
After doing some searching i found others having similar issues with different phones and roms etc but thus far all the solutions to those have not worked for me.
I know i could just easily wipe and start a fresh but to me thats defeating the object and takes so long even with all the backups etc, it just a real PITA to start afresh so i sooner search, read, beg, ask etc etc and exhaust every other avenue before admitting defeat and wiping.
