Hello all!
I am new to the forums and I have a problem with my rooted KFHD7 version 7.2.1. All of a sudden the sound stopped working. No crackling, no popping, nothing. I have read in the forums that it may be a non-amazon app that has muted the volume which would not be controlled my the volume rocker. I have checked all other apps and even went as far to delete any user apps via Titanium Backup.
The only changes I have made in the last week or two was a change to the build.prop to remove the Amazon navigation bar. Has anyone run into this before? Suggestions? Thank you very much for your time.

kindle fire hd
I had the same issue.
I downloaded Volume Control + from the Play Store and used it to set my volume on. Then rebooted. Works fine now. It was caused by another application (button savior).

Anyone else have a problem with sound just failing to play after a while of use?
My NC will just go silent -- then trying to use most app settings directly related to sound (like the volume slider in the settings tab) will cause long enough freezes to get the "wait or force close" dialog.
I've rooted my Nook and sideloaded a lot on it, but this was happening before I did any of that as well.

I had the same problem along with a few from another forum. It's a known defect so return it to B&N while you can. They should swap it out with no issues (they did for me, at least). I'd advise doing a factory reset before though since you've rooted it.

Thanks for the info. Could you give me a link to the other forum where people mentioned the problem?
Hey guys,
4 days ago something strange happened: my kindle fire speakers stopped working suddenly, but i've fixed the problem by reinstalling the vlc media player app (dunno why but it really fixed it).
Now this problem occurs again. So far i've: reinstalled vlc, rebooted my kindle, tried several settings, but nothing worked. Headphones are working fine, it's just the speakers.
What i find strange about this is that the speakers are actually working for 1 second after unplugging the headphones, then stop working even though the speaker sound is also on and on max. That should mean that hardware is okay but software isn’t or that the problem is caused by the settings from the application. It shouldn't be based on app settings, because i tried it with the amazonmp3- as well as the vlc-app.
I can't imagine that i've damaged some important system data, because i did nothing with my kindle besides rooting it, installing the play store and adding some launchers.
Does anyone have an idea what could possibly cause the problem and how to fix it?

Same thing happened to me a while back when I loaded google movies. I fixed it temporarily by restoring my backup of several apps including amazon video and sound apps. However, I killed it again loading talkatone, and I could never fix it by restoring amazon apps. Finally did a factory reset and that fixed it permanently (or until the next non-amazon app kills it).
Never experienced any problems with this. The one problem I have heard about is the Speakers crackling, and then losing sound. Did you have any problems like this?
Problem solved, it's really simple. Some non-amazon apps put the media volume off, which isn't regulated through the normal settings. I downloaded "Quickmute" from the amazon app store and regulated the media volume that way, so that my speakers started working again.
So don't be afraid of installing non-amazon media apps, just make sure to fix sound problems with quickmute or compareable apps.

Thanks for the tip about the Quickmute app. I installed it and now my speakers are working again.

Thanks for suggesting 'Quick Mute Volume Control' app. It worked well for me.
I just got the Viper4android and liking it a lot except for the occasional resets. What happens when I say resets...
I will be listening to music via Spotify or Poweramp and once about 10 mins the volume will go to 0% then slowly fade in to the normal volume in about one second.
I changed the music effects in settings to Viper4android instead of MusicFX and also tried freezing MusicFX but didnt solve the issue.
I dont have any auto task killers either... Anyone face this issue?

I had the issue initially but had to reset my device (for other reasons) and re-setup my phone exactly as I had it and I don't have this issue anymore. SoOoOo, I don't know what exactly fixed it, I'm thinking it was just coincidence it is fine after a reset. I'll try and replicate the problem and find a fix. For now, that's all the help I have.

Thanks, btw I tried this on stock and xnote on slot 1 with safestrap. I wiped everything before installing safestrap. Both has the same volume reset. Also, one way im able to replicate this reset is to play around with the Viper4android settings. When I turn on a feature, the volume resets into the new setting, just like when im listening to music. I imagine something is making Viper4android reapply the sound settings or its crashing and turning back on instantly.

The volume level for the HTC phone app resets to maximum volume (and blasts the speaker's voice) after a certain period of time. I normally like to keep it at two volume levels from the bottom. The problem existed on ViperOne versions 5.0 and subsequent versions (all flashed after a complete wipe and run on either of the latest 401.8 or .9 firmware). Because of this issue, I have switched to another ROM, where the problem doesn't exist. I haven't tried version 5.7 because nothing in the changelog suggests this problem was addressed. I want to go back to ViperOne because the customizations offered are astounding.
I have tried the following to fix the problem, but none have worked:
1. killing the phone app
2. disabling Beats
3. upgrading to .9 firmware
I didn't mess with any phone or sound customizations in Venom Tweaks.
It appears another user posted about this problem in the ViperOne thread but nobody answered it.
@Turge, @j to the 4n, @hansbert: I have done a complete wipe and flashed the latest version, 5.8, but the problem still exists. I've also disabled Sound Enhancer and Beats and changed media permission with the phone app, to no avail. Any suggestions?

I call or getting called daily...and never experienced that issue. I think if if would be a general issue, we would have more reports.
When you did the clean install, I hope you didnt restore any 3rd party apps before testing it?

I did not install any third party apps. I don't think third party apps are the problem because I have used the same apps on other ROMs w/o the same issue. After searching, I found other people have experienced the same problem on different phones. A few reported the problem was a third party app, but I don't have the apps they deemed the culprit on my phone.
I'm running the same firmware as the ROM base. I did a complete wipe, chose stock config, ATT tweaks, and I did choose the option in AROMA to remove some apps and selected some HTC apps (although I can't think of a reason why this would affect the volume). If nobody else is reporting the same issue, it may be due to the extent my phone configuration differs from others'. It may be the combination of options I chose in the installer. I will to do an install with only default options selected and report back.
I think the source of the reset is remapping, in Venom Tweaks, any of the buttons (except of course the power button) to the action of turning off the screen. I installed the Volume Locker app, which locks the call volume and sets off the LED when there is an attempt to change the call volume. By accident, I noticed when I turned off the screen, many times the Volume Locker program would set off the LED and notify me that there was an attempt to change the call volume (what it called the "voice volume"). After some experimenting, I found I could replicate the problem every time I turned off the screen by a long press of the home button (I had always mapped this particular input to turn the screen off in Venom Tweaks).
Also, if any other button (e.g., double tap of home, volume down) except the power button is mapped to turn off the screen, there is an attempt to change the call volume by increasing it one level. If the button is used repeatedly to turn off the screen and the volume level is not readjusted, the volume level reaches maximum. On the other hand, if I use only the power button to turn off the screen and disable Volume Locker, no change in call volume occurs. So I think there may be an issue in the way the buttons are mapped to turn off the screen.
Can somebody else try to replicate this issue to verify I'm not mistaken?
@j to the 4n: If you think this problem merits attention, I can send you a bug report log. Just let me know.
Since installing CM 10.2, my nook HD just shuts off when a sound plays too loud. I always keep my volume down so it hasn't been a problem until now, because I turned my notification sound up and now when I turn the nook on a notification sound plays because I have a new email, shutting down the tablet immediately. Can this be fixed?

Looks like it may be a setting in the build then if it isn't the batteries. I have a volume.apk from years ago that I downloaded but I have no idea what it does so that is why I use the volume limiter now.
May need to open the case to reset connection

I got exactly the same issue. I followed the guideline from somebody else, disconnect and reconnected a flying wire across the battery. Now I do not have the shutdown issue anymore. However, it develops a new issue that I could not completely shut it down (always restarts itself). Since the tablet is supposedly on 24/7, I am not going to worry about it.
Hi, where is this guideline please?
Does anyone have an answer to this please?
