Just bought a Galaxy Tab 10.1 recently and when I plug it into a computer it charges normally but the computer never recognizes anythings been plugged in. I've tried multiple computers and uninstalled/reinstalled the USB drivers from Samsung to no avail. I've also reflashed the OS to factory settings with no difference. When I first purchased the tab (used) it seemed to think it was always in charging mode until I cleaned the contacts on the inside charging port. I have a video but it won't let me post it since I just joined...
Any ideas? Bad Charging port?
This is not galaxy tab 10.1 forum.
This is the 7" forum.
If can't connect, try reinstall the USB driver.

i'm having a problem with the usb of this device its a sprint galaxy tab i brought it used. under menu / settings / wireless and network i dont see an options for usb and when i plug in the usb cord to the computer theres a red x on the battery, windows doesnt even prompt me to install drivers i'm lost on what to do next
Try to use a different usb cord. . . By the way. . . What rom are you using in your tab? Because it seems that BOCA ROM doesnt have usb setting
i'm using the stock sprint rom and the usb cord is brand new i brought it from the t-mobile store yesterday
also what would the cord have to do with no usb options showing up under wireless and networking
Use a different usb port, and try a different pc.
Under setting>>wireless & network>>usb setting which do you choose? This option is important as your usb cord function depend on the selection of usb option. If you choose kies samsung, make sure you have the software install on your PC. If mass storage, make sure your have SD card inside and its not corrupted.
The battery with the x red cross i think is normal each time you connect it to PC. If you connect it to AC plug, then the x cross will not show.

Ok there is a similar post on this. Plug tablet in and charge it. While tablet is charging unplug your pc and then reboot it up to reset the usb ports. take your tablet and connect usb cable to pc. Ensure you have the samsung usb drivers loaded. Put your tablet in download mode and using odin try reflashing. You can try this if you don't have a second pc.

I'm not sure why but my stock gb rooted galaxy note (LB1) will recognize a connection to any of my computers when I use the samsung usb cable that came with my note. I had the same problem with the vibrant when I had one and I thought when I rooted the note that would take care of this problem but I guess not. I also tried connecting via bluetooth but 2/7 of the bluetooth device drivers refuse to install. Why does samsung do this? It will charge in the wall with any USB cable, but only recognizable to the computer if it's a samsung usb cable? How can I get around this???!!!
And yes, I have latest kies installed, and yes, I have tried re-installing and restarting both of my computers running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
why does samsung do what? mine charges with any usb cable in the pc, the samsung wall charger is crap, i use my htc one

My computers will only recognize my Note if I use the cable that came with it. I have several generic, LG, HTC cables lying around and none of them work with the PC and the Note together. They will charge in the wall, but nothing happens when connected to a PC. I just tried a cable that came with a Kindle and that seems to work fine for whatever reason.
Lol that's funny as I use my kindle cable to charge and sync my note as well as it is twice as long as the supplied cable Samsung gave me. I keep that's as a spare for when I need to charge and I cant be bothered running upstairs lol
Hey guys,
My USB tethering has stopped working, and only one of 3 USB actually even detects a USB connection... Any ideas why? for your info :
- It used to work fine on all ports
- I tested on both ubuntu and windows (without and without drivers)
- I tested with and without USB debugging enabled
- Mass Storage doesn't come up either, it literally does not detect anything connected to those USB ports. However, it still charges the phone.
But then, if I connect the phone to the third USB port, all is detected, but USB tethering still doesn't work? It fails to connect. Once again, I tried :
- windows and ubuntu
- with and without USB debugging
- Mass Storage does actually work.
Presumably something is wrong with my laptop USB ports, but this is weird, they work for all other peripherals... Any ideas?
Thanks !
Check USB connection on other pc

Mines exactly the same, only works consistently out of the mobo ports (rear ones).

Dont use usb hubs or cable extensions, use main ports as rear ports, uninstall kies or old drivers then install the new standalone driver from dr.ketan thread, try another pc

Well, I had the opportunity to try another PC, and everything worked fine. I guess my laptop just has very poor USB connections... And this is without extensions or hubs of any kind !
Thanks all for the suggestions.
I have tried different computers, 3 to be exact and once I take out the jig then plug in the cable the pc wont recognize it is even there and so then i cant get Odin working...any suggestions? im reinstalling the samsung captivate drivers soon downloading those now

Not using original cable but it works to charge through the PC so why would it not be recognized as a device?

Power and data pins are different. The cable may charge your device, but it doesn't guarantee data transfer to work. Many cables use MicroUSB connectors, but no all cables have all pins connected. I have an LG charger that works with no issues on LG phone but can't charge Captivate. In the same time Blackberry charger and USB cable both work fine with Captivate. I have also a generic USB cable that can charge Captivate but doesn't provide data transfer. Original Samsung cable works for charging and data as expected. I think you should try with another USB cable.
I'm new to the Atrix HD, but have been around since the OG Droid (followed by a Droid 2, Droid 4, then Galaxy Nexus). I just picked up an Atrix HD for the first time.
USB works for fastboot - Windows 7 recognizes it, fastboot shows USB connected.
If phone is turned off, and connect USB to PC, phone boots up.
If phone is turned off, and connect USB to power adapter, it will charge.
Once booted into android, USB does not work at all. I've tried 2 different cables (both of which work to power it when connected to the wall charger) and 2 different physical machines across 3 different OS's - all with the same result. Once in Android, USB is not recognized. Nothing happens, no indication in the OS that a device is even detected.
I've tried RSD back to stock - but this did not resolve the issue.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Weird... Which Recovery are you using? Also, when did this problem started? Did you formated any partition? Any new ROM?

It was completely stock - OS and recovery.
I purchased it off ebay, so - I'm not sure when it started. I've been in contact with the buyer, and he said he never tried connecting to a PC.
With that being said, I was able to get it to work on my mac with a Nook cable. Same cable will not work in on my laptop in Win 7 or in Fedora 20 for this phone.
While not ideal, I was able to get the phone to it's desired state by using the mac (CWM recovery and CM11 ROM). After changing to CWM and CM11, phone exhibits same behavior still on Win 7 and Fedora when using a generic or genuine OEM Motorola cable (came with my Droid 4) as well as using the cables on the Mac. The only way it works is with the Nook cable on the Mac. Using the OEM or generic while attached to a wall adapter, the phone does charge.
The only thing I can think of with the Nook cable is that the connector is slightly longer than a typical USB adapter. I'm not sure why this works as I can not see any damage to the phone's USB socket.

This is really weird. But I think this is a hardware issue, even when the port may not show any signs of abuse or something like that. If you connect the OEM Motorola cable to the Mac, does it works? If it doesn't, it's very likely to be hardware issue. Also, you got it from Ebay, that's suspicious... Any way, another thing that you can do is download all Motorola drivers for Windows and try with a ton of USB cables.
Stupid question, but what exactly are you trying to do with it? And do you have USB debugging enabled?

Charging would be a good start, but file xfer would be nice too. I've tried with USB debugging both disabled and enabled.
