I made my own belt clip pouch! - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I have been looking online for a vertical pouch style holster for a while.
I found one I think might work but it's 39.99 and I hate waiting for shipping...
Every time I'm out I check for any type of anything that I might be able to shove this thing in! Drives my family crazy I'm sure.
Last night I was in hhgregg (a store I never go to) and I found this Garmin pouch that fits the gn2 perfectly!
I also have a flip cover, modded cruzerlite tpu case and a flygrip on the phone.
The pouch was just that. No clip or anything.
Tonight, I was about to go out to get lunch/dinner and hunt for some sort of belt clip that I could try to attach to the pouch. I looked down and saw a metal clip that came off one of our garage door openers..
OMG I had it all along!
The clip is optional so it slides off the opener. It also happens to have 3 holes in the back of it. Perfect for sewing!
Ok dinner would have to wait.
I got out some black thread and a needle and proceeded to sew the clip to the pouch.
I also mashed the clip down a bit with pliers because I think it's made wider to be able to clip to a car sun visor.
It's not perfect because it sags just a little. The pouch looks like neoprene but it's actually fabric covering some sort of thin foam so it's not quite as firm as neoprene. BUT....
It is very low profile and will definitely work for now! I can't believe I will finally have something to hold my phone in where I can actually get to it without digging through my purse.
I figured I'd share this in case someone else might be interested!
Ok It's time to eat now! I'm starving!

I wore my G2 on my hip for 2 years, but I'm just thinking this thing is too big to belt clip.
Don't you feel a bit funny with that much hardware on your hip?

My wife refused to leave the house with me when I jokingly attached it to my belt.

It really doesn't feel that big to me. I guess I'm used to the size now.
I also have the option of covering it with my shirt which I tucked behind for the picture.
It's just so convenient to have it there that I've decided I don't care if it's big. It really is slim in the pouch. I'm not sure I would like it if it were thicker like a normal leather pouch.
Maybe I'll take another pic with more of me showing for size reference. Of course if I just put my shirt over it no one would even know it was there...

Just wondering if anyone's tried this case. It would be nice to know about the quality and fitting. I'm also very curious if that belt clip will last.
Thanks in advance!

hello,
I've not tried this case but I've had several with the plastic belt clip
and if you have a job that involves sitting a lot they can be fragile,
or if you do lots of manual work. I find the sewn belt loops flatter
and stronger. the krussel case is hard to beat
jay
Never used it, but i'm certain you'll soon be disappointed if you buy that case. IMO, a good case is an absolute must. You don't want your Athena falling off your hip when getting out of the car do you? This always happened with my old axim case with a plastic clip. Nutshell guarantees their case, including the steel clip or leather loop (whichever you get), for two years. Expensive though, but worth every penny to protect my athena.

Actually, It'll probably end up in my pocket. I like those cases where you don't have to take them off to use the phone. That's why I was eyeballing this one.

Just watch the screen. I once put my universal in a case in my trousers pocket, you guessed it the screen cracked! cost £100 to fix it. lord knows how much the athena's screen would cost, more than the machine is worth I guess.
I have one, the 2nd week the belt clip brike getting in the car. Not to mention the phone slipped right out from it twice, with my foot action as a cushion (broke a piece of th tab on the battery door) and the 2nd time was last week at the gas station. The cases are designed with crappy materials but with a bit of mod I saved mine from going into the garbage. I had to cut the back open and put a piece of plastic in it for more support against it flopping. I used a hot air gun to soften the side holders and bend them in slightly for a more snugged fit. At the end of all that the next morning I broke the plastic tab on the case going into the car. Now I still have the case using but only because I've not finished mounting the belt clip on the OEM case as yet, as i've already already cut a caller display into the case and used that strip to make a leather flap to close it. Once I find a steardy belt clip I will post pictures of the mod. If I can't find one strong enough that will not break I will go for a standard clip mounted back and stitched on for a better look.
Back to this clip, I would recommend getting it if you can do a little bit of mod on your own, but BE WARNED if you don't mod the rails on it, your liable to damage your device, when (i said when, because eventually it will) slide out.
See what I said about that ebay case, and what you should buy instead on my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344605
Bottom line, run FAR, far away from that ebay case.
Tuff-as-Nuts now has an option to get a slightly larger Athena case that will accomodate the Athena+case (thanks to my having one special ordered one). You can now have it either way.

I had the ebay case for one week before the clip broke. It is made of the cheapest, thinnest plastic I have ever seen. I have a Verizon phone from my employer that came with a clip similar to this one. Even though the Verizon phone is about 80% lighter than the Advantage, the clip that came with it has plastic three times thicker. After the Ebay clip broke, I started using the case with my Verizon clip. It took another week for the post on the case to break.
It is amazing how shoddy this design is. If you can get it on ebay for $3 (including shipping) I would get it, but only to use as a case. It will not survive on your belt.

I bought this case recently (based on the similar device dimensions) and was quite pleased with it. I need a belt clip so I can always have both hands free. It adds a bit of bulk to the device but feels quite secure on the belt. I thought the case would be a tight-fit but the athena (+ keybd) feels just slightly loose in it which is good. I just push the edges upwards to eject. Worth the price I think.

REVIEW: Smartphone Experts leather side pouch (hip case)

Finding a leather case that's really made for the Note 2 that goes on your hip is a heck of a challenge at best. There's lots of pleather cases out there, and ones that aren't made for the Note...they're big enough to hold two of them I've heard! The case made right is big enough already, it doesn't need to be bigger than needed.
So after lots of looking I settled on the Smartphone Experts Side Pouch.
From what I could tell in the pictures, it looked like a good case and with the black friday discount, I got it for ~$21, not bad for a leather case.
It came in today, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It truly is real leather, smells great and is stamped so on the back (you can see it in the pictures.) Stitching is done nicely, and with black thread instead of the white I see so often. Thank god for that, I don't need my case looking like a leisure suit!
There is extra padding on the exposed side of the case, I haven't seen this before in other cases. This can be seen in the pictures too. The belt clip is sturdy and strong, even though it looks small. The closure is magnetic and holds the flap down securely. Honestly, I don't know if magnets really mess up the phone, but it would be a simple matter to slide a sheet of mu-metal foil inside of the padded area to help with that.
The fit is quite snug, but one can expect that with all leather cases. They usually take about a week or so to form fit to your device. After that, it'll be quite easy to get the case in and out of my pocket. It does have a finger hole in the bottom center of the case to enable you to pop your device out easily. One miss, as pointed out by BrooklynAvi is that there is no headphone hole. I don't use headphones, but I can certainly see how that'd be a problem.
So, all in all, a very nice quality case. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a leather hip case.
Thanks for the review. Do you think this pouch can fit the Note Ii with a case? Maybe I'll be a tight fit.
Kinda hard to tell; my phone is naked. The extra padding is soft, so it does have some give in it. If the case is thin, it'll probably go. Good thing is that leather stretches with time, so it should stretch to fit eventually?
I love the Seidio holster but they aren't making it for the GNote 2 without an additional case. In addition to the cost of the extra case, I don't want to have a case on my phone. The strange thing is they make two of those type of cases which annoys me. One should have been the regular one. Well, they said they don't plan to make one so I was in the market for a traditional hip case. I found this one and you confirmed a few things I wanted to know so I'm ordering it now. I used this type for my Dash and several other devices so it shouldn't be too bad. Better than my pocket.
I thought this thread was going to be about a hip ie. fashionable case

Yeah, well.....
One thing I can't stand is a phone in the pocket. Only way to make that worse is to have a LARGE phone in my pocket. It may not look cool, but you can't beat a case on your hip for ease of access.
One (or two) big issues
OP: Can you add this comment (in brief, of course) to the OP so others know the headphones hole is missing?
So I received the case and it was exactly what I expected in terms of quality. It really is designed for a belt but works well on my pants alone when I don't wear a belt but falls off my sweatpants at home (I don't wear my case at home much anyway and this is to be expected). Here are the issues. There are no cutouts for the headphone and charger. The charger isn't truly and issue for me as I doubt I will charge it while wearing it like I've done with other phones (while out and using an external charger) because the battery life is tremendous on the GN2. But I really use the headphones while wearing the case. I actually think that this is a vital feature that was overlooked. My solution will be to pay $5 or $10 to have a professional seamstress cut a hole in it and stitch up the hole. Yeah, it's that important to me.
So if you need a case like this then it's really your only choice. I just didn't think to ask. It's solid though and once it stops being stiff I'm going to enjoy not having to carry the device in my pocket. I'm a huge fan of side cases and this is a really good one. (Anyone remember the awesome one that came with the T-Mobile Dash?)
After a week or so of use I've decided I'm returning the case. It simply doesn't stay on my side and it's fallen off in my car a few times. It even fell off while I was walking. I'm so disappointed in a case that could have been so good.

I never buy those belt clips like that, i had a bad experience with those. The belt part becomes every flimsy very fast. Im still looking for a nice belt holster that isn't ottercase or siedo.
I haven't had a problem with it falling off, but then I always had a belt on when I was using the case. It's a good case, but I've switched to the Best Buy Pt/seidio surface case. Gives the extra grip I need and love the holster.

Note 2 Credit card case (non-folio)

Has anyone found a credit card case that is a non flip cover design? I want one where you simply slide some cards to the back of the phone similar to these iphone ones.
http://www.speckproducts.com/smartflex-card-for-iphone-5.html
http://www.case-mate.com//iPhone-5-Cases/Case-Mate-iPhone-5-Pop-ID-Cases.asp
Thanks for any help!
There are some on ebay but the credit cards goes inside the case between the phone and the case. so you would have to remove the phone in order to remove the card.
Deal Extreme (dx.com) has several. Search for "N7100 Wallet"
I was just looking through these yesterday and am going to order a couple to try out also!
example:
http://dx.com/p/wallet-protective-p...-for-samsung-galaxy-note-2-n7100-white-163143
I've been looking for a case that hold cards in the back for months, but no luck. You can buy a card holder pocket and stick on the back of your phone or case. I bought 2 different styles from Amazon, but returned them. I didn't like how it looked and felt.

3 for $6 http://www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Adhesive-Credit-pocket-cellphone/dp/B00AZVTWPI/
I like the leather look of this one. It's made to cover the entire back of an iPhone5. You can cut off the excess material and it'll barely fit the back of the Note 2 without blocking the speaker and camera.

3 card holder (white only) http://www.amazon.com/Sinjimoru-Sinjipouch-Leather-Cellphone-Holder/dp/B00BC4AZVW
Edit:
I just bought this one. Since it loads cards sideways, I can put my finger inside when I hold the phone to prevent it from dropping.

Excellent question! I've been looking for the same thing for ages!
I found out that javoedge used to make a card case for the note 1. I think it's been discontinued.
The attachable card holders that HKSpeed mentioned look really good. Now, if only I can get my hands on one in Malaysia...
i think spigen sgp sold that
I got the card holder pocket from Amazon yesterday. It holds 2-3 card easily. The material is stretchy cloth. I attached it upside down so I can slide my finger into it when I hold the phone in my right hand.
I got one
I got one of those Sinjimoru pouches that HKSpeed mentioned. It's very useful, I now barely ever take my purse with me.
However, I noticed that the edges on the seams aren't that great, it started to lift off after a little while, but maybe because I've stuffed like 4 cards in there. I've "fixed" it for the time being with super glue. And don't get the white, it gets dirty easily and can't wash it off
Thanks for the suggestions. Still wish there was an actual case made instead of back attachments. Maybe I will give some of these a try.

Out of those 3 adhesive credit car pockets above, which one do you think has the best quality? In theory, they all look similar, full adhesive back, elastic stretchy pocket that holds 2-3 cards and a few bills, right? One is $15, the other one $10, and then you have 3 for $6. Big price spread, so I'm curious what do you think since you had tried them all. What is max holding capacity of each?
Here is what I'm thinking. Per my review in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38809235&postcount=28 since there is a gap between UAG/phone and CONVERT holster, I want to stick one of these pouches on inner side of the holster. This way I can carry my phone in a holster and when take it out I have a pocket in there for credit cards and a few 20s. I'm leaning more toward the 3 for $6 value, but not sure if its a crappy quality? Plus, since holster inner side is not solid flat, do you think it will be an issue with sticking? In theory there should be enough surface to hold on to, but would like to her your opinion.

I really liked the very last one in my post (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006GD0OJC). since the opening is longer/wider, it can hold/stretch more. I dont know if it can hold more than 3 cards plus cash, since i never tried to put in that much stuff. I think sticking a pouch to the back of a UAG case will cause lint and dirt to get stuck to the adhesive side of the pouch through the UAG's openings. Plus the UAG's material is textured, so adhesive won't stick as strong to flat plastic.

Looking for a "grippy" protective case with non slip back

I'm looking for a protective case for my Note 2 that has a grippy/hard rubber feel that doesn't slide around when I lay it down on it's back. I have an Otterbox commuter but the back is hard plastic and slides around a lot if I lay it down unless I flip it over. My wife has an Iphone and her otterbox has a very grippy rubbery feel that is non slip. I wish their Note 2 cases were like that. I'm looking at the Griffin Survivor case and was wondering if anyone has any other recommendations before I try it out? Thanks!

This case has been discussed by many on this forum and it has good reviews. It is definitely protective and grippy. You can even tell from the back rubbery design. If you want something slim, with a soft matte feel, i'd get the Six Abundant Case: http://www.amazon.com/DBA-Cases-Abu...=1378141992&sr=8-1&keywords=six+abundant+case

Do you know if the back is hard plastic or a softer rubber feel on the first one? I need it to stay put on a flat surface as I move around at work. The Commuter slides all over the place, which I cannot have. It will "stick" if I turn it over because of the rubber edges, but I need the phone to be face up/hands free. Thanks again for your suggestions.

From all the reviews and things I have heard about it, it seems to be in the middle. A hard rubber. So it's good for shock absorption. Definitely not a soft rubber because that would wear out very easily. However, from what everyone in the forums have said and from the amazon reviews, it seems like it will stay in place without issue. Also, it's only $10 and from amazon. If you don't like it, you can ship it back the same day for a full refund without any cost to you. Just keep the original box/packaging.
Here's a quote from someone who has it: "The back part of the case (the black exterior) feels more like silicone than plastic which gives it a nice look and grip. I have dropped my phone once on this case and I have to say that this case does a very good job on absorbing impact."

It's a hard plastic exo with a softer plastic inner. I have this case and it will not hold in place on a hard flat surface. Mine will not even "stick" when placed screen down. The kickstand is about a 4/10 (flimsy, too easily collapsed etc)
Also, the buttons, imo, are junk. Last night, after I started using this case again after owning it for ~6 months (used for 2 weeks), I took a razor blade to the buttons. Couldn't stand them being so difficult to press.
However, the drop protection is definitely up to the same level as the commuter, for being such a cheap case.
I'd say it's worth the price, maybe even less.
Also, I have a similar six abundant case that was free. And although it's very nice, and my most used case, it offers very little protection, and definitely not "grippy" on surfaces.
Wish I had some suggestions. The Griffin Sur. looks grippy. If you search the forum here there are a few people that bought one and commented on the quality. I believe they don't officially support it.. So it's actually a knockoff.
Edit2: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174889 has info for the knockoff griffin. Enjoy.

Thanks for the input, bro. That's rather unfortunate. I guess other sources don't have the best description then.
Have you looked into the body glove case? That looks pretty nice and there is a lot of discussion recently on it in the Post Your Pics of Your Phone thread. Check it out.

Definitely bro, maybe others will chime in with different opinions about it.
I was actually just revisiting the idea of the body glove refined gel case (been subbed to that thread for forever). I remember it being a very popular case earlier this year. At one point there was an eBay seller with ~50 of them for $8+free shipping. I should have jumped on it then. I'm just afraid that the lower section of the case (shiny area) will end up scratching easily (read: shiny back mercury case).
Still haven't even gotten around to trying the UAG... Even though I designed and 3D printed some custom inserts.
What case are you rockin?

3d printing?? Dude that's awesome! I saw on geeky gadgets or theawesomer website ad about a 3d real time laser scanner. It was really impressive. Expensive ($1400 I think) but very cool. Right now I'm using my Six Abundant Case. I rotate between that and my white UAG case. The UAG case is worth it for me. It's not super bulky and protects my phone extremely well. I have large hands so I have no problem gripping and using my phone in one hand with either case on. I do have way too many cases at this point. I even have the casemate tough. Totally forgot to mention that. That definitely has a good feel in terms of grip and it is super slim for a fully protective case. Another nice one is the DBA ultra case. I'll most likely be upgrading to the note 3 so I stopped buying more cases, lol.

Yeah! Got into robotics development at my University a few years back and somehow got nominated to be the guy that learns the ins/outs of our 3D printer so that I can teach others everything about it (even the computer science professors). In the printing world, $1400 is fairly cheap for a production item.
I did see the 3D scanner. I believe it is going to be made by Makerbot. We made our own using a Kinect (think: xbox 360) to do real-time scans of objects and roll them into 3D files. However, I usually make one-off prints so I have to build them entirely by hand in a 3D environment.
Agh.. You are making it hard not to press the "complete my order" button for the black uag haha. I too have large hands/long fingers; I often get my iPhone-using-friends asking me how I always use one hand with this beast. If I was a female I'm sure I'd have gained muscle from just using it by now lol.
Forgot about casemate. I'll have to check them out. (have their tough case on my Skyrocket & love it)
I'll most likely be upgrading as well (if not at least a smart watch).. So now seems like a bad time for me to by yet another case.. But.. I have an addiction lol.

That's really nice, bro. I know $1400 is not that expensive when it refers to such technology, but I meant in general - that's like a nice fully loaded laptop price, lol. I'm familiar with Kinect/Xbox360 so yeah, that's really interesting. I'm sure the whole 3D development can take time from scratch. Maybe I missed them, but did you ever post pics of your 3D-rendered cases? I'd love to see how they turned out.
Yes, the Case-Mate Tough is solid. I have the same black one as in this teamvenum review: http://www.teamvenum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=686
I know you complained about the buttons you eventually cut out of your Sentinel case. This is where the UAG shines. The button design makes it super easy to press the covered buttons. The one thing I love about my UAG case is that I can just toss my phone around onto my bed or the table like whatever without any worry. The shock absorption technology on UAG cases is pretty solid. I even got one for my father's S3 and he loves it (esp since he is accident prone/clumsy with all technology, lol).
Yes, the smart watch upgrade is definitely happening for me as well. I can't wait till they release the Samsung Gear this September. It's definitely going to be a step up from my pebble watch, which I use and wear all the time.
Also, your addiction...I understand all too well, especially being a huge tech fanatic. If you don't have a solid protective/easy to hold case currently and work in an environment where you really need that, I would go for it.

I never printed any cases for my Note 2, just the inserts for the UAG case with lettering and glow in the dark filament etc. I did make four cases for my gf's S3 but in the end she moved to a pink folio wallet case (which would take too much time to make haha). I've since then had two dead SD cards.. So I've lost a lot of pictures (backups are my priority every 24hrs now..). The cases were more of a "wow factor" type of thing. Everywhere we went people asked more about her case than my huge phone lol.. Lead to a lot of explanations of what a 3D printer is.. But After a few times on/off of the case they'd get weak and start to crack at random layers of which the printer printed it (our printer has a resolution of 0.001mm).
Started sanding the area of the Sentinel case today that I hacked out with the razor to make it smoother. Only had about ten minutes with some 1600grit paper, so I got one side pretty smooth!
I wanted to pledge money to the kreyos smart watch but got worried that I'd be stuck with money in the air for it and no item on my wrist until next summer.. The galaxy gear is definitely going to be watched (pun intended)! As long as it stays within $200-300..
As you can tell, it's hard for me to commit to some purchases lol!
To op: I remember seeing some peel & stick grip strips for phones. They were just thin clear gel-type adhesive strips. Been looking for them but can't find the review. Honestly, I'd also like a grippy case..
Edit: found it! www.egrips.com/ check it out.
Thanks for everyone's input...much appreciated. I own the Bodyglove case but I is still harder plastic than I would like. Its a decent case though. I had the Casemate Toughcase for my Note 1 and liked it, very protective as well, but still had a hard plastic outer shell. Maybe I'll research on getting some type of nonslip rubber strips for my Otterbox to see how that works. There are a few cases mentioned here I'll have to take a look at. Thanks again to you all.

Try the DBA Cases Ultra protection cases very good quality and good feel
http://www.dbacases.com/samsung.html
I have the UAG case. I have used the UAG line of cases for all my phones and they are solid. They have the bevel in the front so if it drops face down you wont shatter your screen and it has extra cushion on the corner bumpers. They are only $30 - $35 online. They fit on my OEM samsung dock with spare batttery charger.
The reason why I trust all my phones in the UAG case is that my wife's nephew through my note down the escalator at the mall. My heart stopped as I saw it tumble and bounce off every step. When I went to get it, the phone and case didnt have a scratch on it. The otterboxes are great but they are way too big. Especially for our note.
I am using a cheap eBay tpu. Smoke clear and it is rubber. It works great and protects just fine. Best of all it was only a buck and a half! Rubber does a pretty decent job of keeping it from sliding around unless it is on something very slick. keeps good in the hand too

I have the body glove from sprint.
I feel it offers the best for daily use and it has pocketablility which is nice. It doesn't get hung up as it has a glossy surface at the bottom of the phone.
