Hi guys,
I've got a Brodit Pro-Clip already available in my car from my previous phone, but now that I've got the Note 2, I'm looking for a new mount. I'd like to re-use the pro-clip, but there are a couple of concerns.
1. The Active pro-clip for the Note 2 is quite expensive (but worth it, if I eventually go for it)
2. It's quite a large mount, so turning it horizontal (from time to time) will be cumbersome and it will get in the way
3. I've seen some other nicer looking mounts out there, but they're all suction...but I've been thinking...maybe I could get one and modify it a bit to fit on the brodit backplate?
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing, and any suggestions? I'm looking for something that either has, or will easily accommodate a charging cable (just invested in a good rapid car charger too, but don't mind if the new mount comes with one built in).
PS: I don't want a suction mount that needs to be stuck, even if it supposedly sticks on the dash.
Thanks guys
Doesn't need to suction to anything and you'll never need to ask about this again in the future.

I've read the thread over on the Euro HD2 part of the site, but there's little said about car & bike mounts that fit the TMOUSA HD2's. I'm especially interested in mounts that can charge while using GPS/Sat Nav (evidently some charges don't provide enough output). Any recommendations?

Well it's not any use for bikes, but brodit makes the best car mounts I've ever used, and you can order them with or without a power connection built-in. The one I used with my wizard charged it even faster than a wall charger. They also will let you flip the phone from portrait to landscape (and back) as needed.

sirphunkee - thanks for the info on the Brodit adapters. I was looking at both the Brodit adapters and the Herbert Richter mounts (not a fan of the vent mounts) from http://www.pdahut.com/store/home.php?cat=2717 . The one nice thing I can see from their stuff is that you could have a Herbert Richter car mount and bike mount and use the same Brodit adapter for both. Anyone using any others with success?

Actually Brodit/ProClip does make a mount for bikes... Brodit Bike Mount. I don't own the bike mount myself but I can definitely vouch for their car mounts, I've used them for my last two devices and now presently for my HD2.
Nice! I just ordered my ProClip Auto Mount for the HD2 (USA). This is more money than I wanted to spend, but it looks like a great solution and I really like where it will mount to my dash.
Again, Great forums, and great site.
Two thumbs up for ProClip
I don't want to sound like an advertisement, but wow, the ProClip is a spectacular car mounting system. Good quality mount, that works very well. It was more money than I wanted to part with, but I am satisfied.
I didn't think about the fact that I will have to ditch the rubber glove the HD2 comes with. I suppose I better invest in a clear shield solution and a belt clip case like the RIMs used to come in.

If you're referring to using a clear shield while it's in the proclip car mount then it wont work. The clear shield will make it to big and not fit properly in the mount...I tried the same thing a couple devices ago.
try www.bracketron.com. They have just about everything I could think of, and decent prices. I love my universal usb charger.
Also, if you wish to get the bike mount, looks like all of the brackets, waterproof cases, etc have universal slots on the back to fit any type of mount.

Good tip. Darn! Well I guess I will have to just use it bare. I really wish the HD2 had a finish like the original HTC Dash for T-Mobile. It was a slight rubbery texture that didn't slide at all. These slick finishes lead to drops and falls.
Bicycle Mount
I just bought this from Amazon and used it today. Did 15 miles and it was awesome. I use a GPS app and listen to my music via bluetooth headphones and it was nice not to have to put my phone in my pouch.

Here's an interesting and inexepnsive alternative that I just ordered. Will let you know how it is when I receive it.
The best car mount?
Anybody use this from Brodit? I am just about to buy one...

I have used Brodit stuff in the past and I am crazy about their products. Every now and then they have one that does not fit exactly properly, however I believe this one should work well - for the US T-Moboe version.... anybody have this?

On the first page of this thread there are many posts of users (including myself) who've made this purchase and love it. You can't go wrong with this mount, the best I've used to date.
is there a way i can use the pro clip and still maintain use of the micro usb slot? I have a carputer and i tether the hd2 to my PC, so I would need to be able to access the micro USB port to connect a usb cable to the pc

Yes, the usb slot is always accessable with pro clip mounts. The need to be able to charge the device while in the mount is crucial.
Actually, the proclips are available with and without a built-in charger...so if you want to keep the port free, just be sure to order the one that doesn't have the charger cord/plug attached.
I have been looking for a TriPod holder for the Nexus One, I was wondering if anybody new of one they could recommend?
I found this: http://goo.gl/isBX but I am not sure if this would work securely for the Nexus One?
and here a guy who made his own from a car mount: http://goo.gl/b46x
I also found this one: http://goo.gl/xkci
Not sure if its what your wanting but..
I have this mounted on my motorcycle, fits nice and tight. It is not the cheapest mount there is but the way I see it, not exactly the cheapest phone either so... That being said, I did lose one phone but it was not because of the mount. It was shall we say, user error more than anything else.
She felt pretty bad too, but hey.. Replaced that G1 (2nd one) with my Nexus One. Miss the real keyboard on the G1 but the Need for speed requires it.
Check out www.proclipusa.com
Hands down its the best mount out there, anyone interested in buying one for a G1? Still have it but mildly useless without the phone. Using the Handlebar Mount with Tilt Swivel on it which would easy connect to the center bar of a real tripod mount but something could easily be hacked together and be waaay solid. Did a 10 mile trek on a washboard road on the motorcycle at high speed with the phone connected and never skipped a beat and that was with the G1 keyboard opened up and phone horizontal. Can send you a pic of you want.
I had been looking at car mounts for awhile and didn't really like the large generic mounts. While I was in Best Buy last week I saw they had these IQ Mount that works with Iphones etc that was on sale for $8.99. It also comes with 3 universal tabs so I ordered a snap-on hard (back only) case on ebay (I ordered this one that kind of went with the base and wasn't totally black, hopefully reducing the temperature) and put it on the back of this case. The universal tabs allow you to mount it either horizontally or vertically allowing you to rotate your phone by just pulling it out and putting it back in. The case doesn't block any of the buttons and is easy to take on and off since I don't like having to have the extra bulk of a case. The tabs are very small so they could be put on your existing case as well and you'd probably not notice. This mount also gives you the ability to mount it on the windshield with a suction or on the dash with a strong 3m tape. I will try to get some pictures to post on here but I am very happy with they way this turned out.
Hope this helps someone else too.
Sounds pretty neat-o to me. Too bad my miata has some weird ass vents lol. I like the idea of it being suctioned to the windshield, hard to use navigation with it in your pocket.

Cool! Got any pictures?
I pulled the trigger on this, I'll take some pictures once I receive everything.. Not bad for $15..
where are the pics.... im interested
Excellent solution
Purchased this based on the original recommendation and it works very well in my new toyota sienna. Thanks for the recommendation.
So I had a burning desire to mount my Nexus 7 in my car (2008 Dodge Charger) for some time. But all of the docks/mounts out right now either use suction cups, are bulky, or block significant portions of the head unit in the vehicle already.
This has been a bit of an obsession, trying to find something that would work the way I wanted it to. I had a vehicle specific bracket that I used for my Sirius radio a few years ago. It has holes drilled for the AMPS universal mounting pattern. This is what I decided to utilize at this time. Just a few pics and links for now until I get some better pictures later.
AMPS T-Bracket
Arkon Slim Grip. I actually used the one that came with my ARKON Windshield mount, but I'm pretty sure they're the same thing.
This vehicle specific bracket was from Bracketron, however, it was purchased 3 or 4 years ago, so I don't believe it is made any longer. I couldn't find it on their website. However, a few other companies make vehicle specific brackets, and Panavise was on the ones I found with a quick search. I like the AMPS mounting system because it's fairly modular. Stay away from the RAM mounts, even though they make some very excellent products, they generally use proprietary accessories for their mounts.
LINKS
Arkon Slim-Grip Holder (I purchased the Windshield mount, but it's the same holder, I believe)

I also use the Belkin BT adapter for playback of music. It's pretty much awful for anything besides phone calls.

I'll update later on.
nice
it is nice what you have done.
I have the exact same car dodge charger 2008 SE and I would like to know how I can remove the factory stereo that comes with the car ( same as the one you have in the pictures) and put the nexus 7 in its place.
if anyone had done this kind of project please send me the details on how to do it
Very cool and nice setup you have there although it seems like if you have a passenger in the car with you their view of the screen wouldn't be so good since it's on an angle.
One thing I'd like to know is though, is that bracket permanently attached to the car or is it just a matter of sliding in and sliding out that bracket that is between the crack there?

Thank you. I do have passengers that ride with me, but 90% of the time it's just me traveling for work. I didn't do this with them in mind. lol. However one modification I'll likely be doing to it is adding tilt/swivel adjust. Had it originally planned, but haven't found my solution yet.
The bracket is affixed to the car with the screws in the radio bezel. This makes it much more sturdy.
This isn't the same exact bracket as mine, but it's a similar one from Panavise. It uses the same screws.
I've been trying to find out if the magnetic car mounts are harmful or totally safe for a smartphone but every time I find mixed answers, I'm looking for a car mount for my S7 Edge but still can't decide for a great option
Could you guys help? Thanks!

Most reviews I saw simply mentioned to use with a case. Long time usage *might* be detrimental but quite a few people use them without issue. In the end, it's your call to make.
I have used for all my phones, never had a problem.
If you mean will the magnet damage the phone or your data, then no, they're completely safe. Nothing in a cell phone is stored magnetically. There are no magnetic disks in the phone. Some manufacturers even supply magnetic cases that trigger certain functions when they're closed. Neither RAM, nor ROM, nor LCDs or LEDs are affected by magnetic fields. Well, I might not want to expose it to the kind of magnets they use to pick up whole cars at junkyards, but even that would probably be OK.

I've been using a magnetic car mount called Magic Mount and it has given me 0 issues.
Using it with a Spigen Neo Hybrid case.
Thanks guys, now I have a better idea
We've been using magnetic mounts for years. The only issue with the S7E is that in order to maintain wireless charging, the metal plate needs to be at the bottom of the phone. This means landscape is impossible and even in portrait the phone may come off the holder in a hard turn. I'm still searching for a wireless charging holder for the car that isn't clunky and doesn't use some form of sure to fail adhesive/suction cups to hold the phone. I'm surprised how bad the selection is and may try to McGiver my own out of a cheap ($5) charging pad.

Installed the metal in the middle on my plastic backing. I have a galaxy s7. I am now having issues with people not hearing me or me not hearing them. This is in the same locations with no issues prior. I read that it could interfere with the magnet on the speaker. Ideas, thoughts?
I wouldn't do it, messed up my s7 edge

I always used the magnet car mounts with my Note 4 and it was great. I got the S7 edge and after the first day of use the screen would jump around on it's own and the phone was acting crazy. It went back to normal the next day. I tried again using a back plate between the case and phone and I again got the same issue. I didn't want to permanently mess up the phone so I gave up and went with an ugly window mounted option. I'm jealous of those saying they don't have issues with their magnet mounts and S7 edge because they are great. I assume it's something with the metal back on the phone.....
Been using this magnetic thingy for a year and all good so far.
Magnetic car mounts safe for s7?
Ive been using a magnetic car mount for 3 weeks. Yesterday, woke up with phone switched to wifi and would only boot in safe mode. Tried resetting about 20 times. Later, driving home, put phone on car mount and reset again: instantly returned to regular boot up. Does this possibly mean the magnet might cause the mysterious appearance of safe mode? Should i remove the magnet before I fly?
Thanks for any advice
Been using a simple magnetic mount and a Qi charger with magnetic mount for probably a year with no issues. Went back to the older type of mount but nothing that was related to the magnet itself.
Think about this, magnets destroy magnetic media (floppy disks, old hard disks, etc). Phones do not use any sort of magnetic media. Some phones have magnetic switches related to opening of phone covers/cases, and this one probably has one too, since Samsung does make a case for our phone that seems to magnetically activate various features. Also,, I have accidentally walked into MRI scanner rooms with my phone in my pocket, with no issues, and as you can imagine, the magnetic field is strong enough pull in large metal objects such as oxygen tanks and metal carts.

Have you tried a different mount ? If its working fine for others and not for you i doubt that its something to do with your particular mount.
