just 3 simple questions - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 3 questions about the s3 mini:
1- What is the available internal memory in the 8 GB version?
2-Does it support mkv videos in stock player?
3-Can it play this video sample in stock player (hardware decoding) ?

Thanks in advance

with 8gb memory , internal will be 4,5gb , and ram will be 808 ( some space are reserved for sistem ) , about playing videos , mine does But you should take a player for videos .

" i need the exact internal memory " how exact ? exact as your question ? there are much differences between the firmwares ..... best way you ask samsung support they should know it & they earn money with it ^^

i mean memory available for apps and sdcard (internal storage)
and i wanna be sure that s3 mini can play mkv videos in stock player because gsmarena said in their review that mkv videos aren't recognized and also the above sample because the cpu isn't enough to play it smoothly in sw decoding
thanks

Use MX player, download from Google Play store it plays MKV files.

Hi Darkness, I hope you're fine
as i understood the mp4 files were there on your sd card when you're upgrading to gingerbred, so maybe those files got corrupted.
in this case, download another mp4 file and try to play it, if it goes well, it mean's the problem is not related to firmware.

cm9 wont play the same movie formats as stock gingerbread

has there been anything developed that will add the stock GB playback drivers back to the note so that the same video files will still play on cm9?

[Q] Can't Play Any Videos on Galaxy S

Hello, I'm a new member here. I've browsed the forums from time to time but never registered until today because I'm in need of some help.
After browsing and searching online and on this forum, I haven't seen anyone with a problem similar to mine.
So, being brief:
Not a single type of video is playable on my phone. Youtube.com, YouTube App, videos from my phone's SD Card, videos I recorded with this phone a few days ago, nothing. Videos I was able to watch on my phone before also suddenly stopped working. I also can't record videos.
On the other hand, my camera works perfectly, so does the music player.
I haven't added any weird adds or anything of the sort. I've attached screenshots of my "About Phone" info, and two other screenshots of what it looks like when I try to play videos on the YouTube App and videos that are directly saved on my phone.
If help is available, I'll appreciate it highly.
Thanks in advance!
Pedro.

Going through "All" Apps and there isn't a single one with the name "Video" on it. This may be the problem lol. Any idea what I can do?

Yep. Like this:
System Settings > Apps > [DOWNLOADED] [ON SD CARD] [RUNNING] [ALL]
They are ordered alphabetically, went down and this is what I get (attachment picture).

you may need to reinstall the video player (you have to find a stock video player to re install) or you can do a factory reset...that will wipe out all your current settings , contacts , downloads etc
Did you try clearing youtube data and cache ?

cause your earlier installation is still in your system, it has to be un installed first, for this to replace it. Can download a root un installer from google play and check ( try to un install the video player, not the mx player , if your video player is hidden somewhere in your system
The other option is it has to be flashed it by using odin or by using update.zip in recovery mode.
you can also download from google play the youtube app, and let it install by google ( it can either update it or replace it ) would solve that problem

Ok, I'll try that now.
I just reset my phone, backed up my contacts through Google Sync and had barely any apps so it wasn't a problem. Still no video after factory reset.
I'll give it a go now!

The problem has to be with the rom you using, you are on ICS 4.03 , you need to check with the developers of this rom as I9000 stock rom is only Gingerbread

There was no problem before though, that's what's weird. I've had this phone for about a month and a half, and installed ICS on it on day 3 or so. Ever since, the videos were working properly, lagless and flawlessly.
Just a few days ago problems started appearing.
Just installed a root-uninstaller and it didn't find any Video player at all. Uninstalled YouTube and re-installed it, nothing.

you may have to revert to gingerbread but first try and post into the ICS 4.03 thread, to see if this is a common problem or they have a fix or quick solution for it.
I have little experience in that area as my unit is a korean Galaxy as and only Gingerbread is possible with it.

You have tried to use MX player app?
Just go into official twitter app settings and make sure 'Sound Effects' are off. This will resolve your problem.

Yeah I tried MX Player but didn't work.
Well, had to install another custom ROM. It seems the one I had wasn't compatible with the Kernel I was using. Problem has been solved, and now I'm using 4.0.4, so it's all good!
Thanks a lot for the constant help!

I have this problem too. I downloaded and still using 'QQPLayer' and it works smooth as cake...
The problem was that soft decoder was activated in mobo player.
After disable it the problem is gone.
BTW ... i can play full 700MB - 352/640 movies without lag !
Cool.. would definitely try this tweak.. !!!
It's very nice to watch full .avi movies on my Ace

Hi!
Most of the time I use gallery to browse my photos and videos. Videos don't work either from gallery, ES File Explorer, MX Player and QuickPic. Same result as I open them directly from apps.

I figured that this is a kernel related problem. On stock I'm able to play videos. Semaphore and Devil have problems on CM10. I'm about to try SlimJB and see if it is better.
