Let me know what your opinions are of the holster design change for the Convert by having the holster and the skeleton have similar looks. I think its better and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this.
I will also be posting a review video in this OP when I get one. If someone else has a vid review or personal pics, let me know and I will update OP.
Update:
I just got some info that the Convert's Holster has a removable belt clip which will be compatible with further accessories coming in the spring. I will update this further as I get more info. :good:
Review:
This is my review of the Seidio Convert for the Note 2. I have a past history of using Seidio's Convert Case with the EVO and the EVO 3D both the Convert and Convert Extended (for their Extended Batteries).
I know the pictures turned out a bit dark because of the table I used and will refresh with newer pics later on.
1. Packaging was Seidio's usual good quality box with inner red box. The actual phone case was very compact within the box and I commend Seido for always cutting down on material waste.
2. Compared to the Active case (Shown on the Left), the Convert (Shown on the Right) is an added level of protection and still has the sleek design language which I will cover in more detail below.
3. With the peices spread out, you can tell that your phone is going to be protected more than other so called rugged cases. There are 3 layers of protection. Plus there is a screen protector which will protect against screen scratches caused by dust or car keys, etc.
4. As always the Surface case is included and gives the phone a good base covering which is very secure. I initially had issues removing the case after this review, however after speaking with Seidio, I realized it was my fault in not pressing in the right spot. The directions also clearly state where to press. Here is the instructions and support that show this.
5. Rugged Skin and Skeleton. This is where Seidio shines! Their Rugged Skin absorbs shocks while the Skeleton keeps the phone from sticking in pockets. The skeleton also leaves the Rugged skin Exposed in key grip points also allowing for the side buttons to be accessed. Also you will see the kickstand from the Surface case comes through the Rugged Skin and Skeleton allowing for that feature without additional bulk.
6. Flaps! These flaps are a key point on the Convert due to their added protection and ease of access. You will find flaps over the Headphone Jack, Camera and Flash, and USB port.
7. The Convert Holster is something that I am very fond of due to the ease of access and peace of mind with their security clip. I really like their redisign of the holster as I mentioned above, but I know it is a little more exposed as someone mentioned in the thread below. I would say it doesnt matter because if you are on a construction site go with OBEX (which isn't out yet ...Hint Hint @Seidio). The belt clip is also removable and will allow for future Seidio accessories to be attached. More to come...
The Surface-design holster sucked...the new holster design sucks even more. The only positive change is that it looks like now you can lock the holster...in exchange for which you get a holster that protects your screen even less.
What moron at Seido thinks a holster shouldn't protect the screen?

I disagree... The screen would be facing inward so you don't need to have a bunch of extra material in that space. Also all the Convert holsters have had locking mechanisms.
The other holsters I have seen are ones that make you slide the entire phone along the length into the holster...making it extremely difficult. I've always liked Seidio's holsters because it is very secure yet very accessible.
You are entitled to your opinion.

I go to a work site. The holster keeps out no dust or other particles in the air whatsoever. This case is even worse at keeping foreign matter out. All it takes is one stray piece of sand quartz getting in there and your screen can be trashed. I actually ghetto rigged a $0.05 USD piece of foam to my Surface holster to better protect the screen. You're paying $60 for the damn Surface case and more money for the extra bits. It should freaking protect your screen, not leave it to open to anything coming in.
With so little plastic material in the holster, your damn holster is also far more prone to breaking. The spider design holster looks cool...but functionally speaking is an abysmal design error....and an accident on may levels waiting to happen.

I agree that if you are working at a construction site it would let a huge amount of dust in...Maybe you could communicate to them that you would like to have the option to have a fully covered holster for better debris protection when holstered. @seidioseidio on Twitter.
I guess an OBEX would be better in that situation. Somehow my feeling is that this case is more marketed for the office dweller/ninja who will likely encounter desk corners while running briskly to their desk to get there before their boss sees that they are 15 minutes late...
Seidio has been very good on quality and I think if the thing were to break with little effort then they would replace it for you and realize they need a design change. I saw that, when they had the first spider skeleton Convert (called Rugged back then), where the clip ends broke if consistent removal and replacement (from switching batteries all the time). When I called them on it, they improved the quality and sent a new one to me and my coworkers, which had stronger clip ends...
I just got some info that the Convert's Holster has a removable belt clip which will be compatible with further accessories coming in the spring. I will update this further as I get more info. :good:
Re: Seidio Convert (Rugged/Heavy Duty Case) Now Shipping
Convert is a pretty good case. I gave the one for the s3 a good review. While it isn't the best for some because dirt can get in places it shouldn't be, I would think it has the best impact resistance. Plus you get the functionality of the surface case.
Regarding the price, I believe they had the s3 convert priced similarly. I was able to get it from Amazon with prime shipping for $40. This was the convert combo with one holster not the 2 holster version.

Re: Seidio Convert (Rugged/Heavy Duty Case) Now Shipping
That case is not worth all that money. I paid for 50 for my otter box case and it's the best case u can have for the note 2. It covers ur whole phone and protect ur screen plus it have a holster.

I didn't realize your thread was for the non extended version of the Convert case, sorry about that. On a side note I already have a $12 clone of the convert case for the oem battery. My interest in the seidio convert case is only of the extended variety.

ok. im a noob when it comes to the note 2. i have a bionic and im buying the note 2 with income tax money this week hopefully. i have read a lot on the note 2 and have not seen anything on an extended battery. anyone have a link on info on this. i had the extended battery with my bionic because ut eats the batteries in an hour or 2. .
on case info. i have been leaning toward the otterbox case fr when i buy mine. simply because it makes it almost bullett proof. lol. i had one for my bionic and loved it. had to modify it to fit the extended battery. i had to cut out part of the hard back case on it. but itstill worked great. i even dropped off the step on the fire truck at about 50mph and it still wored with no damage what so ever. lol. so they will always get my money. unless someone shows me something better.

I need a good case for my Dual.
The rubbish silk bag that T-Mob give you is quite frankly insulting!
I would like a nice case, preferably with a belt loop or clip (pros/cons?)
So, what are you using?
This looks nice?? http://www.pielframa.net/htc_touch_dual.asp
How about this one?? http://www.krusell.se/product.php?productID=2792&category=51
I hope vaja does a dual case soon.
Im getting one from here:
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000185
These actually:
1.) Ultra Clear Protector
2.) http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000185&products_id=6814
3.) http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000185&products_id=6816
4.) and a USB to audio adapter (dont really need this but just keeping it handy for emergency parties ;-) )
Thanks for that muzikfreakah,
I've ordered the flip case (star Trek)
Looks good, free worldwide shipping, and with the current exchange rate very cheep.
E im glad you like the site. I for one cancelled the flip and went for the crystal case and screen protector only.
Reasons:
1.) I think the flip type attaches to the case via a plastic cover on the keypad, after checking some youtube videos I was scared that this would increase the gap in the slide in the long run. If you have yourse can confirm this? Because if it fits well then I will order it again as my "business" case for formal events.
2.) For the ordinry leather belt case/diagonal sleeve, I didnt like the belt clip, its a clip on with no lock, Ive had bad experiences before with my hand accidentally hitting the case on the belt and the case and phone just flew away.
So cleare pocket case will do for me as of now. Metal aluminum would have rocked as a pocket case as well but, the problem is, it opens to the right for you to access slide out keypad making it harder to hold on two hand operation.
If anyone is interested the PDair cases (although they are not always listed as such) can also be bought at:
http://www.pdahut.com
The advantages being it's a British site if you'd rather buy "locally".

Yes, the plastic sleeve fits over the keyboard, but I've not had a problem with it yet (don't use the slide that much). It arrived Saturday so not had it long.
OK do let us know I went ahead and ordered the crystal case, ang im going to order another one soon for my wifes elf

I just got back from the above:
-Leather Horizontal Pouch for my Touch Dual
-Silver Aluminium Case for my Sat Nav PDA
-Proportia Screen Protector for both
I personally went for the leather pouch as (I know not everyone will agree):
1. I've always bought the leather with clear plastic window cases before for my previous mobiles, the ones where you slide the phone in and velcro shut the lip at the top and use it while in the case. This is my first touch phone and also my first slide phone which made such a case unsuitable whereas previously it had been perfect (there is such a Touch Dual case on the site which I considered getting).
2. In the flip cases I didn't like the look of the clear plastic panel over the keypad, I thought it might impair use of the already flat and barely distinguishable keys, and I had problems with my previous phone case in that the plastic sometimes caused problems pressing certain keys and unwanted keys being pressed instead. Besides potential issues mentioned in this thread about the gap between the two halves of the phone. Plus the flip cases looked awkward to hold the phone in, especially the horizontal style, the vertical style doesn't look that bad. I do actually like the aesthetic look of the vertical style it's much nicer than the one I went for!
3. The aluminium cases were tempting for protection, but you can only use the pad and start/end call buttons while closed and the screen is out of action behind the clear hard plastic, I think if the Touch Dual had the usual two soft keys this would probably be a lot more usable. It appears you can slide the phone open when you swing the aluminium case open, but this makes me cringe with the thought that the case might be swung shut on the lovely new screen! Also it looks incredibly awkward to use in this position. Undecided on the look of these cases, part of me thinks they look cool, but at the same time they make the phone look like a tank and very ungraceful.
4. There aren't any crystal cases on the above site at the moment but I have to confess I personally don't like the look of them, even though I like the idea.
5. I was put off the "Invisible Shield" (again not available on the above site anyway) by someone's review in another thread. Plus insufficient protection for my pockets!
I personally think the pouch seems the best, and although it may not seem much more than a step up from the velvety pouch that came with the phone, it's a lot sturdier (though not as sturdy as it looks on the site), and would survive a hell of a lot longer in my jeans/trouser pocket than the supplied pouch.
I've opened the case but not used it with the phone yet. Hurriedly taking the phone out of the case for calls seems potentially frustrating, but on the other hand at least it's secure while in the case, and allows for greater freedom of use of the phone when actually out. If anyone is interested I will post again once I have used it out and about.
I was tempted to also get the aluminium case (black, I'm not sure why anyone would want a silver one with the Touch Dual) to give my phone some added protection when out drinking, as I could live with only using the two buttons and pad and leaving it in the case for the night if it meant protection against me dropping it! Strangely thought the postage shot up when I added it to the basket, so I took it off and thought I'd try the aluminium case for my Sat Nav PDA first (which needs such a case being thrown about in my bag) and see how that was, although any experience of the Touch Dual version would be welcomed!
I wanted Martin Fields SPs, but I ordered Proportia ones from the site while getting the above. I will see what they are like when I get the chance.
I wish they could come up with a metal case with the same form factor as the crystal case:
http://www.boxwave.com/products/activecase/active-case-htc-touch-dual_3023.htm
I wend ahead and ordered the clear case from PDAIR.COM although it hasnt arrived yet :-(
if you want a case with belt clip, i recommend the OEM case for tmobile dash. it should fit perfectly fine.
the best case i found so far (and even ordered a replacement)
The best case i have found so far for the niki and as a result ordered a second, just in case they discontinue or mine gets damaged is the 'Crystal Case+Screen Protector for HTC Touch Dual/P5500' from ebay (e_shophk) the name in bracket is the name of the seller or better still the item number i purchased 280216281580 total cost was £4 including postage took about 6 days to arrive
all the best

Also try the one I got:

I think it's better looking than the expansys one and it's more protective than the HTC one. However it's quite lumpy with the clip at the front and belt clip at the back (which sticks out quite a bit). If the belt clip could be removed it would be perfect.

Thanks for the reply. I can see what you mean by the belt clip and magnetic clip. I think the htc and expansys cases also have belt clips, however I prefer the built-in magnetic 'flaps' as opposed to the clip. Does anyone know: -
The material and biuld quality of the htc case
If the htc case (above) has a magnetic clip like the case HTCStuey (left) has or if the magnet is built-in to the flap like the expansys case (right)

Just ordered the same crystal case as donnie1 from the same ebayer so glad to hear it turned up! i just thought for £4 if it does it does and if it doesn't, 'bugger! some guy in hong kong is making a mint in £4's'. if you read this again donnie, what was the quality like and any problems with the touchflo? i read about having to adjust the sensitivity setting?
The crystal case
The quality of the case is very good considering the price, the case does not interfere with you screen area so you are able to launch/close and use touch flo with ease. The opening of the slider to recieve calls or to use as a keypad does not hinder or effect the case in any way, and there is no need to remove the case to connect your usb cable and charger, also another plus point is you'll have easy access to your memory card slot.
I don't mean to offend, but the crystal case = great way to make a nice looking device look ugly. Its kinda like putting plastic covers on seats imo, or a leather bra on a car...just tacky.
I found a very good looking generic no brand leather case, when I tested it fit perfectly, the problem was, the magent locks, they screw up your phone by launching applications randomly everytime you pull out the phone. No matter which way the phone would face, away or towards the magnet, the same results.
So I guess magnet locks wont do good for our phones, velcro anyone?
Tacky Crystal Case?
Just received my 'tacky' crystal case and funny enough it wasn't! ok so it was £4 ( call me tight!) but it fits really well and surprisingly doesn't make it look bad, i know because people have commented on it I do miss the feel of the phone cos it's so tactile, but i'd rather lose that when i need to than damage the phone. A leather case ( or mini purse ) looks great if your pda just sits on a desk looking pretty but i'm out in the field all the time and the leather wouldn't last 5 mins in my job, also the last time i bought a leather case it actually did more to damage the phone than protect it after a bit of grit got under the screen (protector?) and scratched the screen when it opened and closed. All of that aside, i do like the look of the flip case oh! oh! oh! just one other thing as musikfreakah's post reminded me, because the crystal case sets the buttons back slightly (though perfectly usable!) i no longer have the problem of taking the phone out of my pocket to find i have launched loads of apps without my knowing or the camera taking loads of dark photos
Okay, so today I bought a brand new HTC HD2 [T-Mobile version] and i'm looking for a case. I've been expecting on buying one for a few weeks now and have already been looking at cases. It's really hard for me to make this decision on protecting my device, I need design, protection, and features but I have 3 options provide only 1 of those needs. Here are my options:
DESIGN
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
So this is my design option. It's very stylish and I absolutely love it. It was the first case I loved for the HTC HD2, but I'm sacraficing design for protection and features. The best part about this case is that it's stylish, and that it gives great protection to the camera, also matches my new chrome headphones! Big PLUS. It's $20, which are the same price as the other two. The down side to this case is that i've read when taking it off, it scratches the phone easily and is hard to take off.
PROTECTION
This is my protection option. The case is made of alumnium and is very durable, it covers the T-Mobile logo which is important to me because I hate branding. The inside of the case is lined with a foam padding and the case is very easy to take off. It has hinges where you just pull and it unlocks. Down sides are mainly design wise, it's a little to plain and industrial looking for me. It also does not provide cover of the camera, another important thing.
FEATURE
This case is actually alright in attractive-ness. Looks a little bulky but nice, provides decent protection. I've heard it's semi-difficult to take off and sometimes scratches the phone. Plus side is that it has a KICKSTAND, which might come in handy for me when watching the many movies I have in store on putting on the device.
So what do you think? What should I go for?
personnaly i would go for the first one, the other two are just to bulky and ugly for my liking. but if not the first one then the last one. the aluminum one just doesnt look right

I like this one too. Where did you locate it?
I added a poll, when I get my HD2 which should be around Wednesday I will close it and choose the option with the most votes. I'd still like to hear comments and possibly other options if you don't like any of those. I prefer the brand name [just the way I roll], I really can't wait for that Otterbox communter series case to come out.
Why don't you get a cloth pouch? I find those to be much better. I personally prefer to hold the phone as it is without any cases attached to it as it really destroys the beauty of the device in my opinion.
When I got my LG Incite, a few years ago I bought a clear, hardshell case for it. I one day took it off finally [it was so hard to take off] and their were scratches all over the phone even though I put it on new and took it off for the first time 3 days later. After that I was a silicone person and silicone only! Bought 7 silicone cases for that Incite after I got the replacement from warranty. After my Incite I bought a Fuze, got a silicone case for it but it was really annoying and to a point where it would fall off everytime I held the phone [after 4 days]. After the annoying silicone I got a hard case with a carbon fiber design. Every hard case I owned was 2 piece, so when I went to take it off after the hassle It took to put it on, the screen would sometimes pulsate from disconnecting something I suppose which freaked me out. I then got a ATT Tilt 2. There were no silicone cases out for it and so I was desperate and settled for a rubberized hard case. I didn't use it till I cracked it for easy application and removal, still only used it 2 times maybe. Still in fear of another "pulsating" screen. Now i'm where I am today, I have way more options than the other phones previously.
OP,
The problem with hard cases is simple. It does not block out the tiny particles that build up inside the case over time. And some of these particles will scratch the phone and/or screen if you have tiny grit and stuff stuck in it that came either from the wind, in your pocket, your hands, etc.
I speak from the perspective of using hard cases on the PSP, and no matter how good the protection is, it simple doesn't stop tiny particles from getting in there. *Shrugs*
I know, that's why I'm buying a Case-Mate GO BARE full body protecter that does not need a solution to be applied along with 1 of these cases.

The first one is the Case Mate barely there correct? I thought their cases only fit the international versions, same for their Go Bare kits.
Assuming all three fits your phone, I'd go with the first one for a practical reason. When a case protrudes over the surface of the surface edge, I often have trouble hitting the Ok/X to close/minimize an app. I find that I need that a lot along with other things that are at the edge of the screen. The standard rubber case only sticks out a little but it still gets in the way.
Personally I'd just go with the Go Bare when they finally make one for the US HD2 and forget about the hard cases. I don't think they offer more protection than the rubber one. The phone is pretty sturdy, the weakest part is the glass screen, that's more vulnerable to shock and the rubber offers more protection from shock than most hard cases.
The Go Bare and Case-Mate Barely There both fit the US version as well. I honestly would prefer an OtterBox Defense case, but who knews if one will ever come out. The last one for HTC phones was for the touch! Their working on a Commuter Series right now. Thinking about the Case-Mate one though...

You do realize that there is a size difference between the US and the euro models of the HD2, right? Hard cases made for the euro models will not fit the US model as the US model is taller.
Are you sure all of those cases fit the TMOUS HD2? It is 1.5mm taller than the Eurasian HD2, and all of those stock photos show the classic white hardware buttons that are indicative of Eurasian HD2s. I am 100% certain that the hard cases (i.e. no "give" to the material) designed for the Eurasian and Australian HD2s (T8585 and T9193) will NOT fit the TMOUS HD2, especially not the Case-mate Barely There which is a criminally tight case.
The Case-Mate does defenitly fit it, I read a review on the case-mate site where someone said it does in fact fit. The kickstand one is from the T-Mobile website, so I dont think they would sell something that does not fit their own device. The alumnium one Also is made for the T-Mobile one as well.
Also, The case mate one does NOT cover the top and bottom of the phone, basically only the back. Plus, 1.5mm is a very very small ammount.

True, but if you notice the top and bottom curve in a little bit. Basically with that one you're guaranteeing scratching of the rubber if you put it on the TMO.
Cases are useless if they don't protect your device, so the aluminum one is probably best.
Oh how much I yearn for a OtterBox Defense.... LOL.
I currently have that 3rd case that i picked up from a t-mobile store. I haven't had any trouble with dust but i also use it in combination with an old sidekick pouch that i had lying around. I use the kickstand at least once a day and i just took off my case, no scratches on it. There is a possibility that there will be scratches if you constantly have to remove the case to perform a battery pull which i don't do often. In my opinion the case looks great. I used to have one of those full protection skins on my PSP and i didn't really like it because of all the points where there wasn't any protection would attract a nasty amount of dirt. I must admit that otterbox case looks great. I would consider buying one if a t-mobile version came out.

I'm the opposite. I've always thought hard cases look cheap. I've always gotten a quality custom made leather case for every one of my last 5 or 6 devices. Either Vaja, Noreve, or Piel Frama.... so I get to pick my colors and types of leather. They have always protected my devices perfectly, and look better and fit better with age as they get worn in. Usually use a belt-clip with them, too. Right now I have the Noreve case for my HD2, but I'm hoping Vaja makes a case for the USA HD2, because those cases look beautiful... actually have to say it's one of the best looking cases I've ever seen. Would go with Black and red or black and green for the colors.... and get a chain attachment instead of a beltclip. Leathers cases are expensive for quality, but for the price of my devices, I'd say they are well worth it. Plus it's kinda a fashion accessory. It's one thing I have on me at all times, so I want it to look good.
BEST CASE EVAAAAAARRRR!!!!!! lol
easy to take of and put on feels great in the hand and has raised enough edges to where it protects both buttons and screen (not from sharp ass corners) I accidentally dropped mine from about 3 or 4 feet up directly onto the top right corner (not on purpose) and it just bounced and landed on its face and nothing happened, phone was perfect,
BTW after having a million phones and a million different cases, hard cases are the worst to have especially if your planning on pocketing them, , Ive noticed(not from just my experience but also from family members) that when you have a hard case and you rarely take it off,
when ridding in your pocket it tends to pick up lint and dirt in between the phone and case (there for the cause of scratches behind the protective case) and not just that but when you handle your phone the hard case tends to flex un-noticeably and that puts wear on the phones finish.
the only way i would ever rock a hard case is if i had a leather pouch to put it in (with the hard case installed) which is a huge pouch that i have yet to find
or if it was an easily removable case that you could take off once a week or so to clean the dust out
I love the chrome case (looks SEXAY) but after a while of setting it down on tables its gonna look like $#1T because all the scratches are gonna be super noticeable, and out of the three it will most likely scratch your phone the most when removing it
the clear "T-mobile" brand case probably will probably not scratch your phone upon removal but clear cases really look like ass after a while after a few scratches, because it starts getting this foggy look to it, and one of my friends bought the same kind of case for his G1 (long time ago) and after a while of pulling the kick stand out the stand broke
so the clear winner IMO for durability, ease of removal, and protection is the hard, bulky, and ugly aluminum case lol
just remember you have to take the cases off once in a while if you have the phone in your pocket because the lint(even though it sounds funny) will scratch your phone when making friction with the inside of the case
but these are all things I dont have to deal with because i have my sexay sexay Gel case that is easy to remove and i barely ever have to clean
Oh and just in case you don't know what a GEL/TPU case is here is a video of one (for the Euro HD2) if you decide to get one make sure its for the TmoUS version because that 1.5mm makes a difference when it comes to these cases

Well I only had to swallow my pride for about a day because my new ebay case arrived today after only having ordering it about a day and a half ago so off goes pink and grey and on come white on white. I really wanted a white case since i opted gor the white Note 2 it just didnt seem right to put any other case on it. So here are a few pics. To me I would compair it to a siedio since it is a two piece case consisting of a silica rubber case and a plastic outer shell. The case also has a built in stand for watching movies as well as a holster whose belt clip doubles as a stand as well.
I tried to put the Note 2 with the pink and grey body glove case on it in the holster but it was too loose and would not stay so that lead me to believe that this combo in thick but not by much which equals more protection to me.
The case and holster were only about $12 bucks shipped and it is an unbranded unit but better built then some of the units I have seen that people have purchased off ebay.
I am happy with the case, I may or may not purchase a "Big Name Brand" case in holster in the future but only if it comes in white.

I just got this case in black, it's really very nice. I like that it covers all the buttons and the ports, it really provides some great protection. Having two options for stands is nice too.
Thanks for posting this, I just ordered one myself. I had a few questions if you don't mind. How does the overall fit of the case, is it easy to put on and take back off? How much thicker does it actually make the phone? Does it attract lint/dust when it's in your pocket, or is it too big to carry around in your pocket.
Link to ebay please??

.i ordered a case that had a similar belt clip for my GS2 and i broke the clip...TWICE
please comment on whether or not the belt clip seems secure (if it will snap off easily or not)...both times i broke it i barely even touched it
with a phone this large i can see it getting caught somewhere or banging into something
also...does the phone fit properly in the holster (when the screen is facing out) so that you can actually use the kickstand feature? not the kickstand that is connected to the case...im asking about the kickstand that is connected to the belt holster... the one i bought for my GS2 didnt...it only fit when the screen was faced inwards
Thanks for showing this. I bought the white and black one today. I did consider getting the white only. It looks pretty nice. Thanks for sharing.

A lot of questions?..........
To all that wanted a few better pictures then what is posted on ebay your welcome.
Unfortunately my work computer will not allow me to look at online auctions so ebay links are out........maybe....wait one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110973691923
I find the case to be very easy to put on and take of if necessary, fit and finish a very good, as far as lint from pocket, I cannot comment on that one because that why I got a case with a holster.....lol. I dont think it makes the phone that much thicking and its weight is still very minimal.
I have not attempted to put the phone in the holster with the screen out. I had an experience once walking by the ironing board in my bedroom and bumped a metal piece sticking out and a had a wonderful 1 1/2 inch scratch on my beautiful phone but I or someone else will check that out and post it up later.
I do think that the holster clip is the weak link of this whole package. Its is no Otterbox or Ballistic but I have broken my Otterbox holster clip getting into my truck in the past.
I can say that for the cost it is one of the nicest, cheap cases floating around on ebay. I am happy to display my incredibly expensive phablet in it.

the holster clip is my concern...as you said that you believe it is the weakest link as well...like i mentioned i went through 2 of these on my GN2 (not the same exact one, but the holster clip part looks to be exactly the same) which ended up costing me like $30..that is why im strongly considered getting the Seidio Surface combo..but that is gonna cost me $57..i think i might have to pay a higher premium to get better quality this time around
follow up
does the phone fit properly in the holster (when the screen is facing out) so that you can actually use the kickstand feature? not the kickstand that is connected to the case...im asking about the kickstand that is connected to the belt holster...
The answer is...... It does not go into the holster with the screen facing out. I know that seems kind of weird since it has a kickstand feature but it does not slide into the holster that way.

The rubber around the top and bottom is the same as it is on all sides, no extra padding in possible problem areas. The rubber is soft which should give some shock absorbtion as well as bounce if dropped on a hard surface (may I never need to know)
I will try to post a pick of it later.
I'm not that great at prose. Bullet points for all of you!
Bought from here. Also comes in white and red.
Notes:
The great big DANGER sticker and Big Scary Laser sticker is something I bought separately.
Pros:
It's 6 freaking dollars!
Does not feel cheap
Volume/power buttons retain their 'click'
Reasonable protection
High lip for drop protection
Lip does not impede touching the edge of the screen
Stand actually useful (comfortable angle)
Slippery enough to slide into my pocket, grippy enough to comfortably stay on a table
Does not attract fingerprints at all
Fit is very tight, phone absolutely won't come out on its own
Feels comfortably rugged but not ridiculously so
Would not be afraid to drop the phone whilst in the case
Cons:
Volume/power buttons have very little definition on the case, very easy to accidentally press volume down whilst holding the phone
Stylus cutout could be a tad bigger
Larger headphone connectors may not fit
Larger microUSB connectors may not fit
Can be a little fiddly to get the phone out of the case due to tight fit
Neutral:
Stand only has one angle (I like it for the simplicity, but each to their own)
Stand feels a little flimsy (I don't think it will break unless someone smacks the phone down whilst standing)
No dust covers on the jacks (I personally like this as I hate having to remove dust covers when I want to plug anything in)
Wrapup:
For $6 shipped I couldn't be happier.
Unless I find something hugely better or the otterbox commuter drops in price by $20, I'm sticking with this.

I've got the same case, modded it to use with my flip cover and it works great. With the flip cover on I can fold it back and prop the stand on it or it lays flat in front like a keyboard on a laptop. The only problem I have with it is the kickstand is a bit flimsy.

I put the flip cover on, then put the case on and marked it just 1mm-2mm from the top and bottom of the flip cover then removed the case and cut it down to the little groove along the back edge, then cut along the groove. Afterwards I sanded the back edge with 200-1800 grit sand paper and it looks factory finished now.

Monty, i found one exact replica of the Otterbox Commuter for $5 and mod it to have a thin kickstand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153383
I spliced in the kickstand from a $9 TPU casing. The point is it's more protected from drops & has a functional stand without the $70 cost from where I come from.

I just received my uag scout case and then I see this thread. Blast. The uag case is nice. Fit is not a hundred percent but protection feels good. What it is, is not worth 39 that I paid for it. This case looks like it would offer similar level of protection to the uag case. Anybody compared the two? Might get it to cutout the back to allow for better charging wen I finally get around to performing the induction charging mod.

The only thing to be careful with on this case is the inside edges are pretty sharp, at least on mine, and scuff up the edges of the phone. The reason I don't use it on my new note.

Sorry, but in terms of quality these are in a different category. Two months ago I said to myself after getting a handful of ebay cases - hey they all cost as much as one of the premium one. Then, I compared it to those from UAG, Case-Mate, and Otterbox - and the quality and fitment of ebay cases was pale in comparison. They will offer a similar level of protection, I will not deny that. But you will see how brittle plastic material is, how hard to push volume/power buttons, how flimsy and stretchy silicone inserts, how poorly inner/outer shells interconnect, how flimsy kickstand is, the silicone/plastic gets a blue shade from your jeans pocket, and how poor some of the port openings are. Regarding price of UAG - that's expected when a brand new product is released and there is such a high demand for it, thanks to a great reputation of their S3 cases.
Here's pics of it on the phone itself
I like to break stuff!
So after my Nilkin case took a tumble and broke one of the edges by the volume rocker I wanted to review some other cases that offered more protection around the edges without adding bulk. The criteria was simple, stick as close to the thickness of the Nilkin as possible but add more protection.
Today I have the Samsung official case that Mobilefun have kindly sent me.
One thing is for certain, pictures make it look thicker than it actually is. The Nilkin case is barely any thinner but you get the added top and bottom protection on this Samsung case which gives the impression of a thicker case in images. In reality it feels more comfortable than the Nilkin due to the curvier shape and soft case bezel. I find it nicer to type with this case on as my fingers are no longer rubbing against the straight edge at the bottom like they would with the Nilkin and all other snap on cases like it.
Negatives:
I can spot one immediately which is that the back is glossy and as such does attract fingerprints, dust and scratches. Over time this finish will look tired like car paintwork that's seen sponges and machine car washes (I've yet to see a glossy black finish that doesn't end up this way on a gadget!) so bare this in mind. It might be possible to take a scouring pad to it like we did with the glossy Galaxy S2 bits back in the day
Regardless of the name "Hard case" it's not actually all hard, the Nilkin is harder. The back of the Samsung case is hard glossy plastic but the rest is harder flexible material and feels like it will take more of an absorbing impact.
Pics & final thoughts:
Vs Nilkin

It's a £15 case so for once it's not unreasonably priced compared to the branded 3rd party cases out there (Casemate, Otterbox etc) given that it's an official accessory. I'm due a couple of other cases so will compare the lot in a few days but so far this Samsung case has impressed me. It will definitely take more of a beating than the Nilkin has and protect my phone at the same time... Which leads me on to beatings. Had I received this case a couple of days earlier I would not currently have a chip on the lower right of the screen on my handset after a nasty fall on brick stairs.
Such is life
I also use this case now and like it. Although got it slightly cheaper from amazon - around £10 ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009KZ36ZM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 )
I was thinking of combining this case with the official flip case (to better protect the screen surface). Has anyone tried it? Does it work or the extra bulk of the flip case does not allow this protective case to be fitted?
Hmm not sure how the flip would work with this case on without cutting the soft side bits?
I tried the case mate tough first but the cutouts around the usb port and s-pen were too sharp and made the phone uncomfortable to hold.

I am not sure too - would be good to try it myself, but nobody of my friends with Note2 has a flip case.
I have seen this idea being implemented using a slightly moded UAG case (if I am not mistaken) and official flip cover. I think I saw it in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931209
Update:

Yeah that's the problem with some cases where they have sharp/non curved bits around the bottom so when you use the phone it's a bit uncomfortable. Normally it's not noticeable until you use another case that doesn't have it and it's a nice welcome difference.
This case can be used along with the replacement backdoor flip cover (OEM Samsung with nfc). I also use the backdoor flip cover with my Otterbox commuter case without a problem and without modification. It's awesome in both applications because you get full phone protection, and in the instance I'm using the case discussed in this thread, without adding a lot of bulk to the phone.

Thank you for the info!
Could you post few photos of the combo in closed and open states please?
Just to make sure it is convenient for my use patterns before buying it...
If you want to use the official Samsung case with the flip cover, many people (myself included) just cut the softer outer plastic bit where it impedes the flip cover. Thanks to the back being a harder plastic it doesn't lose too much integrity and still holds onto the phone fine. There was a thread about it here in this section with photos and stuff, I'm sure you'll find it with a bit of searching.
The benefit of actually cutting the case rather than leaving it intact is you can still fold the cover back and type with two hands, whereas I'd you didn't the case would only open to about 90° from the screen
