[Q] Cannot connect to PC - Dell Streak 7

I have tried every driver that I can find and have not been able to connect to my PC, Windows 7 x64. It just doesn't do anything but charge when I connect. I was able to upgrade to Honeycomb by way of my external SD card but can't root or install recovery without fastboot.
Any suggestions?

Hi are you trying to set up fastboot or just transfer media?

Fastboot, I would like to root my Streak. I have had android devices for years now and never had this much trouble getting something to connect.

when i did mine i got the drivers off here put them in a folder on my desk top. then put my streak into fastboot mode, connected my streak to the pc let it come up with un recognized and went into device manager and searched for drivers manually. i would say use you tube if you are having difficulty there are some good tutorials on there.
is it showing up as an unrecognized device?

It won't show up at all. Even doing it that way that Streak says something about waiting for fastboot protocls. I have had five Droids and rooted and installed cutom roms on all of them but I've never seen anything like this.

That means it's in Fastboot waiting for a cmmand, etc. Do you get an audio sound when you plug it into your PC? Plus no "Unknown?" device in the manager also might mean a bad cord/port.

on start menu right click my computer click manage then device manager. if you havent set up your fast boot it will show up on there with a yellow triangle.

I get no response whatsoever out of my pc but the Streak is charging of the usb. Think it is the cable?
After looking, I think it may be the connector on the Streak. The pins and board there look damaged but it is charging fine. Is there a way to root without a pc connection?

Looks like you've found your problem. Not sure as normally you need a custom recovery installed with a PC connection first then install Superuser7 from that recovery.

I need stock 2.1 for Captivate

I can get into download mode, recovery mode etc. but since froyo update and one click root/sideloader - no computer recognizes the phone...
no beep - on the pc, no trying to install drivers... it's like its not there, but captivate beeps and knows usb cord is in...
What up? I want to go back to 2.1
Is there another way - like copying the 2.1 files to a micro sd and moving to the root and doing a restore or something?
Help - got to take phone back!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Read the OP in its entirety. You may be able to get by just loading the drivers, but if that fails, you can flash back to stock 2.1 with Odin using the instructions he's listed.
Odin requires connectivity. Drivers installed and worked when I flashed 2.2 - but now its like the phone is not there at all.

Just to cover the bases... are you using the usb cord that came with the phone? I've found that my Captivate won't be recognized if I connect with my wife's HTC cord.
Do you have the SDK tools? If so run and ADB devices command from a command line and let us know if the device shows up.
Reboot the phone and pc before doing this. Make sure the phone is in USB debugging mode also.
isn't there a way to just get the .pkg or update.zip or something that you can put on the micro sd card?
can you flash roms from the card? internal or external?

also a quick note....make sure you don't have any other usb storage devices plugged into your computer....i noticed i would occasionally have this issue if another usb external was plugged in....try another computer also to see if it reads
i have tried on numerous machines
have you ever flashed a rom from the SD card

If i am not mistaken there is not a way to return to stock without being connected to a pc. It is odd that no pc will see the phone. Really sounds like a driver issue. Could also be the cord as it has been seen in a few cases that nothing short of the stock cable works, have not had that issue myself but have had no pc see the phone and it turned out to be that I didnt have debugging mode checked and had to reinstall the drivers but then had no issuses.
I ran into this moving from one rom to another. What made it finally work was after selecting your usb mode after the cable is plugged in, I dragged down the notifications and one was click here to mount phone. After I did that it connected up just fine. I was starting to panic as at that point I was on stock eclair, z4root was not findable in the market and it wouldn't let me sideload it from my external sd card. Actually I still had to copy the root.zip from one click root onto my internal and rename it update.zip (essentially what one click root does) and boot into recovery and apply it. Once it was rooted, I was out of the forest, but got nervous.

Help! Odin not seeing phone!?

Ive got my phone into a boot loop state because I messed up when trying to restore a previous backup of CM7 that I had.
Okay I thought, this is not a problem I will just do a clean flash of something via odin with my phone in download mode. This is where the problem lays. Odin can not see my phone when its in download mode and plugged in via USB! I have flash roms via Odin before so know what I'm doing.
I've tried it on 2 windows 7 64bit laptops and different USB ports but both are the same! could this be a driver issue? I have Kies installed on both and have manually tried installing the driver too.
Other things to note is that I can't get into recovery mode but no problem getting into download. Also when I plug the phone into charge it doesnt come up with the battery symbol but only the circle of rectangles like it is loading the battery symbol which never appears.
Anyone know what is going on?
Sorry for bad english.
I had problem like yours - pc don't recognized my phone (odin too) and shows only battery charge. i tried on 3 different pc's, installed kies, pc studio, drv, tried 2 differnt cables.
And the problem was... Cables

If you are CM7, you may need Nexus S Drivers.
See this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061946&page=879
Download and extract to folder.
When phone connected, locate it in your computers devive manager and update driver and point to your folder where you extracted for installation.
Thanks spaikas!
I guess I will have to go out and buy a new cable to try that. One thing though is that even when I plug it into the mains power adaptor I still get the circle of rectangles as well as when its plugged into my PC (with the supposedly defective cable). So does this suggest that the circle of rectangles is not caused by a bad cable? but still my cable being bad could be a culprit for odin not seeing it.

Thanks. I have downloaded and extracted the driver. But I can't find my phone in device manager. Does the phone have to be in download mode for windows to be able to see it. Do you know roughly what it would be called?

I can't get into CWM! Is there no way to install the Nexus S driver without having the phone plugged in because otherwise I have no idea what I'm going to do....
It was my cable! Sorry for wasting your time guys but it was just a very unlucky coincidence that my cable must of broke at the same time that I messed up my phone and needed to do a odin flash! Anyway managed to get my hands on another cable and now odin can see my phone!
) congratulations!
i was so happy too, when i pluged 3rd cable, and found it good

Yes it is possibe. From the root prompt on a terminal you could "dd"the correct images to the correct partitions.
However I would recommend you try to find an other PC (windows 7? ) where the usb does work, and where the correct APX driver can be installed if the phone is in the invisible recovery mode. (you will have to have a plan B if the dd fails anyway).

My pc USB ports works, my phone port doesn't, thats why i need a secure guide to going back to the oldbootloader without connecting to the PC
micro-sdcard
Try with a micro sdcard. You can see the slot if you remove the back cover.
It has saved me a couple of times
Wut?

HELP- my OP3T not connecting to the PC

Hi all,
I have OP3T that just not recognized by my PC. I also have another OP3 that connects just fine to this PC. I tried dev menu and USB debug+ MTP, tried to wipe cache, install a new stock ROM downloaded from OP website, also installed the drivers in the PC.
device manager not shown anything when I connect the phone (no MTP device or Android device) and tried several cables and also another PC.
the phone was rooted until the last update (last December) and now I want to install custom ROM and I can't!
I think you want to fastboot flash a recovery?
What OS? Fastboot devices returns null?
yes, so I can install custom ROM eventually. my PC runs win 10 64X and right now my phone has stock android 8.0 (OOS).
what happens that when I connect my phone to the computer there is nothing going on- no now device in device manager and not a new driver pops, so I just can't flash recovery.
is there's an option to flash recovery without using the PC?

No generic MTP or Android device at all? On either PC, trying different ports (I know you said you tried multiple cables - which is good trouble shooting)? And no pop-up on the phone, allowing you to select MTP (move files, or whatever it says)?
If that I the case, I tend to think the USB port is damaged.

I've seen some folks package TWRP into a bootloader-flashable zip on other devices, but haven't seen anything like that on the 3T.
More importantly, I'd say it's very risky modding the phone with custom recovery and flashing a ROM, without having fastboot and adb tools available. You can get stuck in a real bad jam doing this, with tools to recover the device. I don't recommend it.
Yes I tried it all but there is no indication besides the device is charging while connected to the USB port.
OP support say that this might be the case, but I don't know if I want to replace it since my screen is cracked and it will brake it as soon as I open the phone

Cannot connect One Plus 3t to PC, not showing up on device manager

So basically I searched everywhere and found many people with this issue.
I tried everything everyone said.
From installing the drivers, to turning on developer mode.
Also fastboot mode is not working.
I hope my is not a hardware issue. I tried a new cable with the same results.
Anything else I can try?
I have been using FTP to transfer files but I want to root my phone and I can't.

The last time I read about someone having a similar problem it was resolved by using an original cable. But I can't find the thread where this was discussed.

Just to rule it out, after you connect your cable are you seeing the Notification with USB options and have you selected 'Data Transfer', (or whatever it's called)?
If you are seeing the Notification and the PC still can't see the device, uninstall whatever Drivers and ADB packages you currently have installed. Download the ADB package from Google and, when prompted, say 'yes' to installing the Drivers.
Make sure you try all your available USB ports.
Are there any Yellow exclaimation marks in Device Manager? Do you have the most recent Motherboard drivers from your Manufacturers website?

If you have a can of compressed air, try blowing out the USB port. There may be debris up there. It does sound like a Hardware problem. You really need to try it on another PC to know for sure.
You don't have any issues when charging?

The phones charges perfectly, I already cleaned out the port.
So, I still have this issue and I wasn't able to solve it. Pretty much the phone only charges, doesn't get recognized by any computer. I also tried my laptop and same thing happens. How do I find out if it's a hardware issue?
Is there any way to save the phone?

You can connect your PC to your phone without cables using ADB over wifi provided your phone is rooted and on the same wifi network as your PC.
I know this won't solve your hardware problem but it does allow you to move files between your PC and your phone using ADB.
Note that this doesn't work in recovery or fastboot modes.
Here's how:
On the phone using Terminal
su
setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555
stop adbd
start adbd
On the PC in a command terminal
adb connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5555
...
adb disconnect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5555
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the phone's IP address
To set the phone back to normal (optional)
On the phone
su
setprop service.adb.tcp.port -1
stop adbd
start adbd

You could also try using flash drive via OTG. This won't help you connect to PC/Laptop in any way, but could at least progress a bit that the phone hardware is okay for data part.
This problem start again , fortunelly im in nougat so if i go to dev options and change the usb charging to mtp his comes to charging again . I think this is the problem , the phone dont comes to mtp so dont "have" a device in windows to connect , with this im unable to make root and do anything in fastboot because my phone lock to usb only for charge
