Unlock tool? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Is there some unlock tool that I can use for this phone that does not require s/off?. I'm farily good at doing this with mother other phones but here I am feeling like a total n00b. I volunteered to do this for a friend, and after further investigating the whole thing I see I have to do a wire trick to s/off the phone just because I want to unlock it? That's outrageous, is there any other alternative whatsoever?

Depends what you are trying to unlock. You can still flash roms by just using the htc unlock but s-off is easy man don't get nervous because it uses a wire

Yeah, that's my problem.. The wire part, haha. I've unlocked over 10 phones in the past, but have never ran across the wire trick. My main issue is that it's not my phone. If it were, I wouldn't be hesitant. However, with that being said, is the wire trick dangerous, am I going to zap the phone into a brick? I mean what's the possibility of this? I've read it's safeish, but would like confirmation from some of you.

Before I get started(I'm going to take the plunge, I already explained I wasn't responsible), but I just want to confirm that the "STOCK RUU", is simply the stock rom that comes with the phone when it's purchased(noob question, yes, but be polite), also.. This HTC Dev Unlocked that mentions I need to verify that I have.. How can I verify that? Is there a different process I must undergo to receive HTC Dev Unlock before doing s-off?
Thanks.
Just trying to be extra careful since it's not my phone.

Thnk you very much thats all i really wanted to know
Hate to tell you this but as a Sprint Tech the first thing I check is recovery boot image, if it isn't stock I cannot exchange the phone and I can only try one thing and that is flashing the Basic RUU we have for 2.1 that ends in .6.
If that doesn't work I have to mark your phone as DBR as per my managers and what not. All techs are penalized if a Rooted phone is bricked and sent back, don't know about other areas but our Texas SRSS's have us on the look out. I am supposed to make the customer aware that it is a voided warranty when/if it doesn't take the flashing back with the RUU. Sucks but when the customer decided to take this cool Risk they are very well aware (AND DEFINATELY SHOULD BE) that rooting a phone is a warranty voiding procedure.
As such I'm just being compliant with my exchange budgets and correct procedures and yes, it can affect my job performance and lead to corrective action (which we all know after several leads to termination) so if you are told this please understand we aren't being mean about it, we aren't doing anything out of the ordinary. I absolutely hate it when I have to tell this stuff to customers especially those who flash over to Cricket and want to come back with that same flashed phone that I cannot fix these things (nor am I given the hacking tools to properly fix a flashed cricket phone either) and the warranty was voided by them taking those risks to begin with.
Hey...YOU CAPICHE? /sicilian
Anyway just keep that in mind. 16 yrs doing this and so far, maybe the way I tell it to them I haven't had anyone not understand when I can't do much for them when a hacked flash goes wrong...even as far back as when hacking winmo and Palm devices was the all the rage.

most techs at my sprint stores have their droids rooted anyways. all depends on where you go! now that that new law passed i don't think rooting will break your warranties anymore... or in the near future i should say.
Mine's rooted as well, but then again we win free phones all the time so I'm not worried, however, even with the new law passed, Apple and HTC both have made statements that Jailbreaking for apple, rooting of android for HTC will still be considered a warranty void.
I apologize that I don't have links to the articles, but they were up somewhere on either Gizmodo, gdgt, phonescoop or engadget, and according to Sprint internal warranty claims HTC will not reimburse us for phones that cannot be flashed back to stock. Ergo, they won't let us do anything if it won't flash back with our own internal stock RUU's.
Was just clarifying for the guy in case he can't get it back with the .5, Sprint techs have been dealing with the hacks that customers do for a long long time and I have seen more than my share of bricked phones on any given day. So its just a heads up. Phones that get screwed up with stuff don't get exchanged.
Have you tried running the RUU while in the fastboot menu is up? I remember time that's the only way I could ruu my phone.

You're misunderstanding the new ruling. It only says that it isn't illegal to root your phone...it doesn't say that rooting won't void your warranty.

Bootloader unlock allowed : no - Is there any hope?

Hi guys, I know this has been thousands of times, but if our device doesn't allow boot loader unlock (for example mine is on EE) is there any hope what so ever of a way around this? I'm pretty sure someone is going to say something along the lines of "IT'S IMPOSSIBLE STOP ASKING IT CAN'T BE DONE" - if that's the case, would you care to explain why?
Thanks
Well the answer is not at the moment don't know if anyone is working on it... and from what I saw so far in order to hack it you need to use the test point method but in order to do so you need to open your phone...now are u going to take that risk because I won't haha

I agree. I even rang EE and asked them. They and no clue what I meant. Sad really.
I wonder if you got a letter from EE stating that they allow you to unlock your bootloader and then ask Sony to make your bootloader unlockable will that work lol....I know it will take time and maybe u will waste your time but if you really want to unlock your bootloader is worth a shot haha
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
At least here in Spain, you can unlock your bootloader if you first pay for the simcode unlock to use the phone with any carrier. Then you can email Sony with this information, asking them to leave your phone in the same condition (bootloader unlockable) as any "unlocked sim" phone (I don't know the correct word, sorry)
Then Sony will take your phone as if it was going to be repaired and after a few days you'll get your phone back.
I know this is possible in Spain but I don't know about other countries; maybe it depends on each law system.

Hmmm. Even so. I think i'll be getting on the new HTC One band wagon when it comes around. I want to like the Z1, but the software is, at least in my opinion, nothing less that horrible. Also the glass front and rear is a disaster if you're a mechanic.

[Q] Return Completely Stock

So I recently bought my M8 and would love to root, but there have been a lot of reports of issues with data because of csfb issues. I have not had this issue, but if I do start having it or any other issue, I want to be able to go back to stock and return my phone to Sprint. I am currently in the 14 day return period and I have insurance. On my last phone, I was rooted and was having issues with my battery and went back to Sprint, and the guy there told me that he could not work on it if it was rooted. He was a pretty cool guy, but he made is sound like it was a really big deal that I rooted. I have searched on all the Sprint M8 threads and I can't find a way to go back to stock. And I mean completely stock. Finding a stock ROM, Kernel, and recovery is easy, but I am not sure about s-on and locking the bootloader. I don't want the bootloader to say "re-locked" at the top because that is a dead giveaway that I unlocked. Is there currently no way to go completely stock?
As of now there is no public RUU and without that you won't get completely back to stock.
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
You don't need an RUU for your device to "look" stock. Restore that stock nandroid that's floating around, flash stock recovery, and take the OTA.
As long as you're S-OFF, you can change the flag to LOCKED and then go back S-ON.

Basically people are having issues with connection. I'm not going to fully explain this because it is quite complicated and to be honest, I don't even fully understand it. But because this is a tri band phone (sprint spark) it relies on the network to tell it when you switch from different bands and when to switch from an LTE connection back to a 1x connection for voice calls. The phone only has one data transmission path, so it can't be connected to LTE and 1x (voice network) at the same time. It has to be one or the other. That's why you can't use mobile data while in a call. This works perfectly fine when the tower you are connected to has been upgraded and has the correct csfb fallback switches in place. But the problem is, a lot of towers don't. This causes huge problems for spark phones. All spark phones have this issue; the. Samsung Galaxy s5, LG G2,and the Nexus 5. But a lot of people have been having issues with this phone being really bad. Sometimes people can't receive/send texts or calls, and sometimes they can't connect to mobile data at all, no matter where they go. Originally it was thought to be an issue with sprint and what I described earlier, but people noticed that if they swapped out the phone for a new one, the issue went away. This isn't true for everyone, but that solved the issues for a lot of people. The general idea now is that it mainly seemed to affect people that ordered the M8 online early on. It doesn't seem to be affecting the phones bought from stores recently as much. Someone also claimed that the phones were provisioned incorrectly and that was causing it. But nobody really knows. If you are having an issue like I described, I would go back to where you bought it from and tell them you want to exchange it.
Also, if someone notices anything I said was incorrect, please call me out on it. As far as I know it's all correct, but I could easily be wrong.

I don't want to sound like a total idiot, but I guess their no way around it, I haven't used a HTC product since my Hero days, So let me make sure I understand what you are saying, flash my stock rooted nandroid, find a stock recovery zip and flash, then do I used terminal to lock my bootloader, or do I flash another zip? Then where does the OTA come in at? Now after reading this and the rolling of the eyes, I just wanted to make sure I didn't make a mistake, and this will have me back to stock without root ? I will like to thanks in advance for your patients.

Good explanation. On my note 3 I was consistently hitting no less than 10 mbps at my house. On my M8 I was getting 2-20 MBPS at my house, with NO consistency. No issues with calling/texting, however. I recieved my M8 on the 11th (same day as the s5 came out, expecting chaos) and was getting okay signal in my house. Now a few days later it seems someone is pointing a cell phone jammer at me. I lose connection completely, then it goes back to slow speeds, about twice per minute. Same thing with calling and texting though. I REALLY do not want to go through the entire process of going back to stock to ship it back to amazon, so I am hoping it has something to do with sprints towers since I was alright the first few days.

Haha I completely understand the position you are in. I was in that position not too long ago. You do almost exactly what you said. Flash stock rom (NOT stock rooted though) and stock recovery, then lock the bootloader through adb. And that will pretty much return you to stock, but your bootloader will say "re-locked" at the top instead of "locked." So it's obvious that you've unlocked at some point. If everything else is stock, I doubt anyone would question it and you would more than likely be fine, but I like to be extra safe. I know with my previous phone (EVO LTE) if you were s-off, you could run a tool that made it say "locked" instead of "re-locked" so I would imagine you could do the same for this phone, but as far as I'm aware, you can't yet. I guess we'll just have to wait for a dev to make a tool for that.

No matter where I am I get the same crap, I went a few miles away where I know the heart of sprint spark connection lies, but still get really bad connection. Sprint is trying to get their network working properly, but it's not an easy task. The upgrades have to be done to each tower and that takes time. Not only does Sprint have to have the work done, they have to get a permit for each tower first. Some places that is easy enough, but some other places the government is very strict with work permits and it takes forever to get one. It could quite possibly be an issue with your phone, but it could also be an issue with the network. If you get a replacement and still experience issues, it's the network. If the issue goes away, then it was the phone. Unfortunately, I'm most cases it's really hard to tell until you get the replacement. But in your case, I'm almost certain it's an issue with your phone.

Does anyone have the HTC One Remixt?

I live in Miami and just bought the Remix a few days ago from the Verizon store.
I literally cannot find anyone else who owns it on the internet hahah. It'd be cool to meet some other people to chat about the device with....
for example, why in god's name is there ONLY glacial silver for verizon?? I want Gunmetal grey so bad lol
I've got one. Got it a couple weeks ago. Pretty nice phone.
Remix = Mini 2?
I just got my Remix on the 15th, for rooting and ROM the phone is considered the Mini 2?'
No special version for Verizon?
My wife has one but am looking for soff too. Currently sitting at tampered in boot loader because I tried most of the other methods and it failed.

I too am sitting at a tampered locked bootloader I believe rumrunner was the culprit. Noone seems to know yet how to unlock these phones from what I've read. I think the phone is great. Sense 6 is amazing. Hopefully someone figures it out soon.

I agree, even just root would be nice.

Any Updates?
I just recently got the HTC Remix. Has anyone had any luck with rooting or flashing custom ROMs since the beginning of this post? It's still really hard to find things for this phone.
I *think* sunshine should be able to root S-off (will be trying it next week) but I still need to find a ROM. Cyanogenmod now has the HTC One Mini 2 listed as a supported device, but have any of you tried using it with the Remix? I am really new to this stuff so I don't want to make a mistake and brick my phone, but I would really love CM11 (or really any custom ROM) for the Remix.

[Q] Question about buying a bricked moto x

Hi everyone, I'm planning on buying a bricked moto x because it's cheap and it's new. In the past I already bought a bricked phone and made it work, however I'm not sure I will be able to this time so I wanted to know if you guys can help me understand:
-IF it can be unbricked/fixed, I don't care if it's difficult but I need to know if it's possible first.
-if the above is possible then what procedures should I follow
I'm probably asking for too much, sorry, but from what I tried to investigate it looks like it has more than one single problem so im not sure if all of them have a solution.
What the seller said:
The old owner sold it with the bootloader unlocked, I didn't knew that, so I updated via OTA (in the phone) and ended like that.
Looks like it can't have an unlocked bootloader if OTA updating, I don't even know please help me.
*since I still don't own the phone I can't test anything, I just need to know if those errors shown above have a solution, or at least are not a death declaration so I can still try something if I buy it.
Sorry for the bad quality of the images but that's what the guy selling it uploaded.

You'll be rolling the dice on that one. MAYBE it can be fixed using the de-bricking procedures, but if anyone tells you that it can FOR SURE be fixed...well...I'd question their source.
If its cheap enough that you don't mind throwing that amount of money down the drain....give it a shot. Your call.

I call BS on that account of what happened... The bootloader is LOCKED STATUS 0. That device was never bootloader unlocked. (and having an unlocked bootloader doesn't interfere with taking an OTA)
It could be that someone used one of the older procedures to root and disable write protection, took and OTA (losing root/write protection) and later tried to downgrade to root & disable write protection again, thus causing the brick.
It could be as simple as flashing the latest ROM (4.4.4) using mfastboot. I could be as complex as using -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-resurrecting-bricked-moto-x-t2629057 ... or it could just be a brick that can't be recovered.
Either way, like @samwathegreat said... its a roll of the dice. There is no way of knowing until after you buy the phone and try.

I'll try, after all it's almost new, even if I need to replace something it would be cheaper than buying an used one, I'm worried about that CID stuff because I read that it has something to do with a unique file that has to be backed up and without that file there is nothing you can do to unbrick.

I'd be worried too. There's a great chance the device can't be fixed... And you're simply out X amount of dollars.
I'd pocket your money and add a bit when you can and buy a used fully working device. At least the money won't be wasted... Potentially.
For all you know he fastbooted a rom or firmware for another device entirely. If so, you're done. Paperweight. He could have brought it somewhere and already been told it's unsalvagable.
You just don't know.

Thanks, what the seller says doesn't match with the fastboot screen thats my fear, I guess he don't know or perhaps doesn't want me to know how the phone really ended like that, this phone is amazing, I just got excited about getting it so cheap, i guess i'll wait more thanks again

I don't blame you!
There's some bricks you can recover from, and some you can't.
Your odds are the same if you just go to the casino and put your money for the phone on red or black at the roulette table. If you lose you lose... But if you win... You can buy a working phone. ?
