buy pogo dock - Nexus 7 General

where do i buy this? on amazon its 100 bucks

Asus website, if its in stock
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

The actual Asus Nexus 7 dock is near impossible to find, and those retailers that do get it in stock - especially the unscrupulous money grubbing bastard ones - will jack the price up to 2-3x the retail value because a) they know people want it pretty bad and b) they know people will pay it.
If you can't wait to get one, you're going to get screwed on the price, that's just how it goes. Asus ain't crankin' 'em out in serious volume, that much is obvious, but since the stock dock doesn't support USB connectivity (it just charges and provides for audio out) I have zero use for the thing. They should have added a few more contact points on the Nexus 7 and given us some actual data transfer capability, then it would be worth even the $40 retail price on the thing.
As it is, it's not worth it, even at a discount, at least not to me.

Buying a refurbished Nexus 7

Hello everyone,
I've been looking around for a tablet for a few weeks and the Nexus 7 is on the list of possibles.
I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to hang on for a refurbished Nexus 7. Are there more 8gb versions going back than 16gb's? Reading all the feedback Google must be awash with returns and I was wondering how they intend to move these products on. (Apple sell refurbished ipads on their website)
what do you reckon? Worth waiting for a refurb?

If they do openly sell them, I say go for it. I only experienced the screen lift, and is probably an easy fix.
As for people with screen dead spots/washed out color. I can only imagine the only way they fix it is with a new display, so that would be another go for it. That's if they sell as refurbed.
Bit seeing this device has such a small profit margin, I doubt they will sell refurbed devices

i would buy a refurbished one. im currently in the process of returning mine, screen lift and light bleed, and i would definitely buy a refurbished unit. all refurbished items i have bought before (phones, laptops, tablets, ipods) have work just fine like new............ and their always cheaper
I was just thinking of how much these will sell for in a year or two. They're cheap new.... so ~$100 resell? Seems crazy.
Refurbs probably won't be THAT much cheaper, maybe $150. I'd almost rather just buy new. I don't think your really going to save hundreds like you could with a 10" tablet of yesteryore.

Refurbished units will have gone through more QC than new units. I would go for it. I bought my kindle fire refurbished and it was perfect.

The majority of times, refurbs aren't actually refurbs, but new units marked down and relabeled. It's one way to move excess inventory w/o impacting the SRP. That KF you got is most likely new.
BTW, you can definitively tell whether a CE is "new" or refurb by cracking it open. Those that have been opened (refurbed) will always leave tell-tale traces.
N7 is still supply-constrained for the near future, so chance for an "unofficial" markdown is slim. One way that could change is if upcoming competition from Amazon and Apple is fiercer than expected.
I'd wait. I've had good luck with refurb devices in the past. Amazon sold the Kindle Fire for $140 refurbed a few months after release.

That wouldn't make sense from a business perspective. It's better to replace the screen (or parts) and sell refurbed for a $60 loss over just trashing the unit for a $170 loss. Not everything has to turn a profit, just minimize the loss.
I would almost guarantee there's a refurbed unit. But whether it's available in the US is another thing.
I see a long time ahead before refurbs hit the market. Probably a year. In the meantime they will take the parts and use them when someone sends in for warranty repair. Just because thee is screen separation does not mean you get a new unit. It might right now due to their inventory. But give it a month and you will start seeing refurbs sent out for warranty repairs.

Aaaahhh... maybe they're selling to other countries as new...
A little shady, but possible where their laws wouldn't prohibit such an action
If you want it, why torture yourself and wait for a used unit only to save a few bucks?
You could check the XDA Market for guys selling theirs for a few bucks less or do yourself a favor and Buy it now and buy it new, with a warranty at a brick and mortar store in case you need to exchange it for another in the event there is some defect (screen lift).

LG eating itself alive with Nexus 4

Google and LG most likely make NO money from selling the Nexus 4 at the $299 pricepoint. The Nexus 4 is identical to the Optimus G, which is suppose to be LG's cash cow. Same proc, same screen. Tbe build actually looks nicer on the Nexus 4. The camera is a wash since the 13MP one sucks and the 8MP is identical on both. So literally the only difference is whether you want LTE or not. Is LTE (and a subjectively much uglier design) worth $200+ price premium for the Optimus G? The Nexus 4 also has pure Android which is also a big plus, So why is LG releasing the (much better) Nexus 4 at a no-profit price and undercutting their cash cow the Optimus G? They are barely making squat right now in the mobile phone space. This makes no business sense.
I'm pretty sure LG just builds the phone and gets paid for it, Google probably will sell it close to what they paid to get it built. So LG isn't losing money, Google is just breaking even or maybe barely losing.

Improving their brand image while simultaneously getting their brand name out there?
While not entirely the same, you could argue that with the Galaxy Nexus, it was fighting with the S2 and a little bit of the S3.
Yet Samsung managed to really make their push during that time period. People have tons of horror stories when it comes to LG. If they play their cards right with these devices, they'll have a much brighter future.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
The Xiaomi Mi2 will also be selling at a loss ($310 vs a cost of $370), and has pretty much identical specs as the Nexus 4. I think they can manage to break even overall, especially with most sales going to the 16 GB version.

Google pays for it, and then they sell it to us with expensive taxes via Google Play :B
I'm assuming LG developed the phone for a flat contract price to Google.
Google is likely making little to nothing on selling the price.
They are likely straight up buying marketshare for android and enticing people to buy into their ecosystem while they make money off apps, movies, tv shows, music, and ads.

They sure are!
I will mostly likely be dropping the iPhone ecosystem for Android because of the Nexus 4 come November 13th. Eventually I will also convince others who rely on my smartphone knowledge on what to buy to get the Nexus 4. So it has done its job even if Google isn't making a profit off of the hardware. They will eventually make profit off of me from the Google Play content I (and many others I convince) purchase.
Excellent post datwunkid :good:
I think Google is taking the hit and selling it close to cost. You also have to factor in that the retail cost of some phones have carrier markup added in as well so that they can make some extra $$$ off people buying off contract. They're probably selling it close to cost and the Nexus line isn't really a big seller to begin with so nobody's really losing a boatload of money here. LG gets to have their name attached to what is looking to be an incredible Android phone (and DEAD SEXY!!!) which will get them back into the good graces of some of the Android fans out there. Also remember Google is an ad company - selling phones for profit isn't where they're making the lion's share of their money and while I'm sure they care somewhat about how well this device does, it'll barely have any effect on their bottom line.
Let's not kid ourselves. Google is definitely making money here. I know in the retail market, mark-up is routinely 1000%. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if LG can spit these phones out in mass production at $50 a unit or cheaper. Anybody that's had any experience in buying mass quantities knows that Google is making money.
When you see service providers selling phones out of contract for $600-$800, your seeing first hand the companies rape/screw the general public like they do best. Even when you buy a phone for a subsidized price from one of the big four, do you really think that are not still making money off the sale of the unit? Don't kid yourself...

You ever look at any tear downs of phones? The parts on this phone are probably worth two hundred or so dollars, plus assembly, warranty claims, marketing. There will be a thin margin, but it will be there. I don't think many carriers will pick up the phone, so it will only really appeal to people who avoid contracts, anyway.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
It makes sense for LG to do it at little to no profit because releasing the phone would help their market and image in the long run if the phone is a success. Google is baking on the consumers to buy apps, books, music, and magazines from their store.

Think of it this way. When it comes to building a pc, you can't build one as cheap as you can buy one from one of the big boys. Plain and simple, they buy parts by the 1000's. These parts are heavily discounted at a contracted, negotiated price when bought this way.
I can assure that NO company is going to put forth the effort for a small profit margin. That's just how the corporate world works. If it doesn't make good/excellent profits, it's simply not worth the time or effort.
y would you complain about something like this though. the price is a good thing :good:
No complaining here! I'm totally stoked about it's price point. Best bang for the buck bar-none in my book! Can't wait to order...

Well here is the news Google partnered with lg because of the price as they are the only one who agreed to make phone at this price level. Its also get back lg to the market, despite their products are cool but their developers are sucks, lazy people wouldnt work on old devices to bring latest os so people like me promised won't buy lg product ever again, other company like Sony and Samsung refused Google to make smartphone with this spec for this price. But who cares about the partner as long as Google controls the os. I'm getting this as soon as it goes live for sale.

Maybe Samsung doesn't want to create any more nexus phone just because of this. Their Galaxy S line and Note line will be ruined.
The same thing happens with the nexus 10, which is cheaper and FAR more specwise than note 10.1

The iPhone 5 costs about 200$ (16gb I think). I don't think the Nexus will cost much more. So, Google will get money out of this
Google was earning money even with the 16gb a 249$
I you think it costs them that money to make a phone you are mistaken.
I have seen retail buy in prices for handsets in bulk, and those would raise your eye brows!
so manufacturing prices would be much less.

why are samsung accessories so expensive?

I went onto the samsung website (canadian version) and checked some of the prices for note2 accessories and I was blown away how expensive they are. You'd think samsung would realize if they priced their accessories at a reasonable more people would purchase them.
for example $39.99 for their Note2 TPU cover. $49 for their MHL adapter. Before ebay or online shopping I could see companies charging these outrages prices but with ebay and the like who would buy some of this stuff from samsung when you can get less expensive versions?
Stuff up here is definitely more expensive than the states.

Impulse buying when the phone is originally bought. Wouldn't take much of a salesman to sell a 50 dollar case to protect a 600 investment. Or all the neat add ons "to get the most" out of your brand new phone.

This. I'm such a sucker for it.
My thought process: "Well, what's the difference between spending $200 or $300 on a phone when I'm paying thousands for the service? Might as well get the best one. And why did I buy a phone with removable battery and storage if I'm not going to buy a spare battery and spare battery charger, and a 64 gig microSD? Wow... I've got a lot invested in this thing. Better buy a case for every day use, and a tank of a case for when I go out. What's this... an app that I will use every day of my life for only $5? That's one drink out at the bars, I can swing that. An app for $0.99??? Might as well be free. Oh, and can't forget the car dock and charger, that's an essential."

Samsung is expensive because they guarantee the products will fit and work 100% with the phone plus every manufacturer always charges more for their respective products. Example: htc charged around $40 for their mhl adapter and $50 or more for their tv dock. It's just a matter of finding items cheaper and hoping that if you buy generic it won't damage your phone and fits correctly. There are plenty of reputable companies that make accessories you can count on. Like otterbox, seidio, spigen, and many others.

So you think a $50 MHL cable is fine when it probably cost them 50 cents (maybe a dollar) to make in china. I'm all for a company making money/profit but that's kind of ridiculous.
For cases, I always hit up ebay. For the same price as a retail case, you could buy a dozen and try them all out!
For cables, chargers and batteries, however, I've been very hesitant to get them "cheap" because of the risk of damaging my device. After reading an article about various chargers and usb cables which showed that the third party/counterfeit brands have no consistency to them, I've stayed with trusted oem brands.

I have had older samsung cables work with Kies. If your running a non touchwiz rom any brand of cable should work fine. But if running TW, Kies is very picky on your cable, in my experience.
I have a few "China ebay cables" and they charge the phone but fit very loose and will stop charing if moved a little bit.

i've ordered around 15 mUSB cables and haven't had a bum one yet. the 10' are a bit of a tight fit though. ordering multiple quantities is the way to go so that the shipping cost is spread out among the cables, otherwise the saving isn't significant.
now the chargers on the other hand, you'll need to get a few. i've gotten 12 with 4 bad. but at ~$1.50 each that's not too bad.

Or pay one price with a dedicated USB cable that is not going to break and a dedicated USB charger that will not break and spend completely less there's your savings.
It goes the same for micro SD cards all these people when I get the cheapest price possible and then b**** and complain and moan how is not working or it got fried or failed. Because now they would have to purchase the real one that may have cost a little more but if they had just bought the real in the first place they would have saved more.

It goes the same for micro SD cards all these people when I get the cheapest price possible and then b**** and complain and moan how is not working or it got fried or failed. Because now they would have to purchase the real one that may have cost a little more but if they had just bought the real in the first place they would have saved more.

with my purchase i have a cable for nearly every where i'll need one. no need to spend more just to get a "monster cable" type that's based on the same standards as my ~1.50 cable. if you feel better spending more money to get the same working stuff i got then go ahead and defend your purchase.
but like i said i won't buy chargers from them any more. powergen has been pretty good for me and they run about $10 each.

No, because the shipping usually cost as much as the cable it's self, 2 or more cables usually only add like a few cents to the shipping cost.
They also have a warranty on there cables and replace them for free if you do get a bad cable and that's only been once in a 5 year period that I had to use there warranty.

I spent a total of 10 bucks okay for an OE charger as well this is in total a heavy duty USB cable no problems at all and I don't need a warranty because they don't have issues.
I don't need 10 cables laying around that's just nonsense its the same thing why people buy the 0 lemon battery why have three to four batteries having to swap them out when they die when you can just settle for one battery for about the same price if not cheaper and not have to worry about turning your phone off and on to swap out the battery.
I have to USB cables 1 is the BlackBerry cable and the other is just the OEM.

Wait till it craps out. I'm glad it works right now. why do you gotta be cheap about everything. Because I love the people that will buy anything at a cheaper cost let's say something happens and no warranty for it and complain that is not getting fixed. I see people do this all day with car radios they buy everything from Sonic Electronix and then complain when they bring it to the manufacturer that something is wrong and then they don't offer a warranty for it because of the fact that they purchased it from a third party that isn't an authorized retailer

Higher price != better quality. See: Beats by Dre.
In fact, quite a lot of people have had issues with the OEM cable. There's a thread in the General section about slow charging where the culprit, for many people, is an OEM cable giving out. My OEM cable which came with the phone now supplies 160mA. 1/10th of stock.

I'm not really cheap about a lot. I saw that thread someone posted with the eBay sale of the 64gb card for $30 and bought it just to see what would happen. I have a 128gb normal sd card but it doesn't fit in my hunterf case with the adaptor. it's a legitimate PNY card you would see at best buy for twice the price or more. doesn't mean it has any more chance of failing compared to one you would get at best buy.

F*** that s*** dude beats by dre is just retarded overhyped mainstream BS. The bass sucks completely the treble is harsh its just complete crap all together it's overpriced on top of that.
I have a pair of in ear monitors that are $80 by Klipsch which they're called the s4 and they do much better job than any beats by dre or Soul by Ludacris crap.
If you wanna talk about audio then you're going to have to go with brands like Westone, Klipsch, Sennheiser, Shure, JH Audio, 1964 Ears, Ultimate Ears, VSonic, etc...
Car audio: Focal, JL Audio, Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, and some JBL/Infinity.

I know, that's why I brought them up.
I personally use audio-technica ATH-M50s, modded to have a 3.5mm stereo jack rather than the normal coiled cable. Got a v-moda cable to go with it which has a mic and music controls.
There is definitely a subjective element to all this. I think what the person is saying about getting ten cables is more about convenience, and economics. Monoprice lowers the cost for bulk orders. The shipping for some items is fix despite the number order, thus more you order, the lower shipping per unit. We all get that.
His other point, why drag a cable and charger around all day, when he can just leave a cable or charger to the places he frequents most such as the car, work, home, friend's house, gym, and so forth. Plus, if they cable is good, you'll probably get to use on other devices that charge via microUSB, which most like aslo be the next smartphone. Personally, I have chargers and cables in the car, work, school backpack, home, and laptop bag. Some are from previous devices, other are ones I bought.
It's similar logic to the ZeroLemon battery. It's just what is more convenient for that person.
But given his record, it's about right what is standard manufacturing fail rate, which is targeted for three to five percent, or less. Even the most expensive equipment can have bad units. And given Monoprice cheap prices, if you get one bad unit out of ten, no one is going to care if they rest still work as expected.
On a personal note, I've been ordering from Monoprice for around four years. I haven't had any issues with their cheap cables. They're cheap, but they work.

As for audio, I like etympitic Research. I have the ER4 and ER6 and use the HeadRoom BitHead portable headphone amp. I like ShennHieser for opencans. I have a pair of HD600s that is use with the HeadRoom Cosmic headphone amp.

I just got off the phone with Samsung. NO Replacments are being sold YET. The Gal I spoke to was really nice and found out that they should be released MID Nov, she inquired further that an internal memo said the should be ready for shipping on Nov 21st. And they will be about $30-$50. They have not yet settle on a price. She expects it to be 30 for OEM and 50 for retail package version for the stores. (Available First of DEC.)
She did say they will work for charging only they will not work for activation. (Missing the NFC inside) Should still work for file transfers for developers she said.
Hope that helps everyone out. I know I will be buying one regardless..

Edit:
Come on China (Make us a $0.99 version LOL)
Maybe I should try and find one of the MFQ's out there and have them start making them. Maybe even a better version.

WOW! That is a ridiculous amount of money - especially missing nfc (which is reprogrammable anyway). Just need to wait for cheap knock off versions (kinda surprised there are none yet; seem easy enough to make)
Realistically, don't break the original. You could wear it but that would make it prone to being destroyed.
I'm going to be super careful with mine now by placing it in my sock drawer.
Someone posted this link in another charger thread:
http://skinflint.co.uk/eu/samsung-g...ng-station-black-ee-dv700bbegww-a1003340.html
More realistic prices..
Btw just search for the part number. There are a lot of resellers out there

I cannot believe no one has made a cheap one, from China or something.... You can get everything on eBay, but you can't get one of these?

IMHO the charger design itself is flawed. They should have put the USB on the other side by the door hinge. That would make it far safer from damaging the charging unit. Beta tester #fail.
When my wireless charging pad and S-View Wireless Cover for my Note 3 arrives, I will be making my own Gear charger - it will be a stand-type holder for the watch. Essentially a modified open-faced charging cradle on a pedestal type stand so you can just 'hang' the watch on it instead of having to 'clamp' it in each time.
The watch is too light to sit in place correctly, but I'm working with a friend to modify the base and the pins to ensure a positive connection without risk of scratching the watch.
$30 for a cradle is ridiculous. I hope that information is incorrect. The maximum price I would consider reasonable would be $15.
Anyone know anybody that has a 3 - D printer? Be nice if we had the files and could just print one out ourselves and add the guts. I know some printing places now have 3 - D printers and will print whatever you need. I know when I win the lottery (yea right!) I want a printer.
