Hi, I upgraded to jelly bean a few weeks ago and the battery life was fine. But recently I have been getting to about 13% by the end of the day with light usage. Any ideas? I wiped the battery stats and cache etc. In battery stats it tells me that my display and the OS is using most of the power but It wasn't used much.
Why did it just happen out of nowhere?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi there!
"Do you have Google Now? Kill it if so."
I had same problem before. Well, maybe loosing 87% of battery not for 12hours, but 18-20, but anyway it was unacceptable for me. I played around with "System Tuner", disabling services and processes I didn't need, but maximum what I achieved was additional free RAM.
I set up few "SmartAction" scenarios and what i found that the most battery-wise helpful thing is when all Background data is off. Now I got back to ~40-48 hours battery life with the same day to day workload. Of course you are giving up "live" notifications of internet related activities, like email, facebook, live rates and so on, but it like your choice in the end of the day - I am fine with pressing "Refresh" button from time to time =)))
I have the same problem. I did get to test the phone on ICS and the battery did seem to last longer. So when I upgraded to JB, I turned Google Now off from the start - it has never been on.
My battery says screen is using about 75-85% of the battery. This is way more than ICS. On JB, I have many smart actions on e.g. turn off data when the screen is off and turn down the screen to *minimum* brightness when using music. I don't understand that. I even use a mostly black wallpaper...

I think that recovery in JB is corrupted. It's kinda tricky to enable it. Try this: Power off. Hold Volume down and power on. After logo and vibration whey the screen goes blank release Power button and hold Volume down. When Fastboot menu appears release and then go with Volume down to Recovery. Select Recovery with Volume up and wait. When you see the figure of falling android press both Volume up and down. There seems to be broken part. Hold both buttons a while then release and repeat until the track of the next menu appears. Press Volume up and you'll get to the complete menu. Find Wipe data/cache with Volume up or down and select it with Power button. After that process select factory reset with Volume up or down and enter with Power button. Then select reboot.

With both GingerFusion and DreadGinger I seem to have the issue that when I turn my screen off or it shuts off on its own after being idle the lights on the 4 Soft Keys stay on and take an extra few seconds to turn off, which wouldn't be a big deal by if that was all, but once they turn off they keep flicking on and off every few seconds (like every 5 to 10 seconds) which is hella annoying. Anyone else experience this and if so is there a fix. Or does anyone have any ideas on How to fix it. I have tried wiping cache and dalvik cache as well as re-flashing the themes all to no avail. So if someone could help me fix it. I would really appreciate it. I hella dig these themes and would like to use them. But that flickering on and off repeatedly is straight up annoying.

2 ways you can fix it. Either hold your phone up to a light source (computer monitor or other light source).
Or, press and hold the power button, then select "power off" instead of reboot. Power the phone completely off, then restart the phone.
A little tip to avoid that happening again:
After you flash a theme or ROM, instead of selecting "reboot phone now" in the Recovery menu, select "Power Off." Let the phone turn completely off, then turn it back on.

hey i got a question, lol
on a stock zvc rom i used on LG Esteem (similar to revo) i made like 1 or 2 theme tweaks with framework-res.apk, services.jar & LGHome.apk... i seem to have an issue where i hold power for menu, select power off. but phone just reboots to boot animation than powers on rom again..
i only switched out statusbar_background.png in framework, added transparency line to services.jar (which seems to be working) and swapped LGHome.apk with version from zvb(previous fw update prior to zvc) so do you think it could be related to any of that, or is it just an actual problem with the rom..? thank you for any help..
I just attempted to root my Galaxy Note using the instructions found on the development forum and I thought everything went well. Now, however, once the phone starts it wont turn on again - if I press the power button the screen back light comes on but thats it. I have to remove the battery to restart it, but then the same thing happens again. Any idea how to fix this?
Will it go into download mode if so flash a stock rom with odin

Power off your phone - take out your battery if necessary and wait about a minute, then put it back in.
Press volume up + home + power and hold, see if you can get into Recovery.
If you can, wipe cache, dalvik and do a factory reset.
Try to reboot.

I did all that and everything went through, same problem though after reboot - once the screen turns off, hitting the power button only makes the back light go on and the screen itself doesnt seem to turn on. The phone seems to function "as normal" - it even reboots fine - until I have to turn the screen on using the power button after initially booting it up.

If that's still the case, I'd try to boot into download mode and flash a stock rom (as was suggested above).
Okay so my power button just randomly stopped working after some random time. it doesnt work ANYWHERE. to lock my screen, to unlcok my screen, in recovery mode i cant press anything cuase it doesnt WORK. i no its a hardware issue becuase of this. i did google this but found nothing. what can i do to fix it.
i tried a battery pull and putting it back and going to recovery to factory reset but as soon as i put my battery in my phone starts up. i can enter recovery but the power button doesnt work so i cant press anything.
my warranty is over by a long shot ( had it since it released) so cant return it.
any help would be appreciated. all i need is a way to turn my phone on and off nothing about the recovery and stuff. but if you do find someting for it that would be even more amazing.
and has this happened to anyone else, just wondering is all if this is common or rare.
thnx in advance.
it has happened to many captivates. search 'captivate power button' on xda.
What ROM are you running on your phone?
Answer to that question has a lot to do with your next steps for software workaround.
One approach; you could read up on ways to clean the power button and see if that works. Or send it off to mobiletechvideos.com and he will fix it for a reasonable fee.

i am running Aocp 5 android 4.2.1
hve been running it for a few weeks now and no problem till now
Okay, start by seeing if you can clean the power button, that may fix it for now. Again, search 'captivate power button' to find some threads about ways to clean it.
With the ROM you are running, I believe you have a version of CWM that allows to use the Cappy's dedicated menu keys, menu, home, back and search, to navigate and select recovery items.
Assuming your power key is stuck on, remove the battery, hold the up and down volume buttons and reinsert the battery to get into recovery. This will allow you to test keys, wipe, and any other function in CWM.
With the phone on and fully booted into JB, go find volume rocker wake in the system setting options and make sure it is active. Hitting the up/down key will wake the screen when it sleeps. Add the sleep/lock toggle to your notification bar menu and you have a way to instantly lock the screen without the power key.
If you still have a bad power button stuck in on position, then you will need to take out the battery to turn it off.
Hope this helps.

This is happening because your power button is stuck in the on position. Did you try to clean it as suggested earlier.
BWolf56, I'm not aware of an app or ROM that completely prevents power up on insertion of battery when the power button is stuck on. If there is such an app, I'd like to hear about it. I think maybe the power switch goes to the broadcom power management chip, so I don't understand how the app could work unless the phone never came on at all. SOD symptoms would be the result.

I had a very similar problem with my Epic 4G Touch (Sprint S2) - my phone would randomly reboot, and it kept getting worse and worse. Thought it was the ROM, the overclock, etc. I flashed back to (almost) stock, went back to original clock speeds. Eventually, I noticed that even brushing past the power button would wake the screen, and about 10 seconds later the phone would reboot.
Long story short, I bought a replacement power switch, soldered it in place, and have had zero problems since!
Several eBay sellers offer the switch you'll need.
(They don't include the skills needed to solder it in place. It's a tiny switch - about 4mm x 2mm x 1.5mm, and you'll need a good quality fine-tipped soldering iron and a steady hand. Do you have a friend who's good at soldering?)

well thanks for the reply, but i dont need it anymore. my friend conveniently had a GNex (old) and gave it to me as a present. so i dont use my captivate that much anymore.
So I have been trying to overcome the issue of power + vol up (held for 10, 15 seconds\ and more) not working on my device. No matter how long I hold the two it just won't reset the device.
At first I figured it could be kernel as that is the lowest code that I've knowingly changed.
Changing to back to stock kernel did not fix it.
I thought it could be any sort of thing so I redownloaded the NL 434 firmware and then also universal generic 434 firmware and flashed back to completely stock with flash tool, doing all wipes and excluding nothing.
Neither of those firmwares fixed the issue, the hard reset function still won't work on my device.
Additional info:
Both buttons function fine individually and can see no obvious reason to suspect it's a hardware fault (though see that it is feasible, just less likely).
I can confirm that it was working initially.
I have an unlocked boot loader.
The last time I can remember it functioning was prior to boot loader unlocking - the first thing I flashed after unlock was cm10.1 and I got stuck in sideload mode with no hard reset to get me out lol
Otherwise the device is fully functional. For the time being I am back on KA07 xperia revolution rom, with advanced stock kernel (cwm) from DooMLoRD.
If anyone has any suggestions or insight it would be greatly appreciated if you'd drop a comment :good:
EDIT:
I've restored back to 350 with EMMA, but to no avail . It did however tell me that my boot version is : 1264-2309 S1_Boot_Lagan_1.0_2
Is there anyway to change the bootloader :S
After getting home I tried re-locking the bootloader which didn't work.
really starting to wonder if I should be taking it back in as hardware fault.. wonder how that will go since I unlocked the BL
If anyone would be so kind as to do a quick test for me, would you please be able to go into service mode (open dialer type *#*#7378423#*#*) then go into service tests and select the buttons and switches one (I think that's what it's called )
When you hold down the volume up or down button, is it registering as 1 press, or several, continuous presses?
Cheers

Not entirely sure what you are asking, keyboard and switch, volume up only shows as volume up and volume down as just volume down, regardless if you hold it down or press it over and over again, or if you just press it once. Not sure if I am an idiot, but I couldn't work out how to test the keyboard from there.Although one interesting part is that is states it is not a test for the softkeys, but tests them fine

Yeah that was the menu I meant.. couldn't remember lol. Ok so when I would hold down volume up it plays a repetitive tone and the text on screen states "vol up", then "vol up vol up" for the longer I hold it (and the beep/sound keeps replaying... confusing sounding I know
When you hold the volume up botton down, does it just beep once and display vol up (exactly like if you were to press it once and release)?
Basically if I were to press it once, the phone would make a sound and the screen would display "vol up"
If I hold it down however it will register as a new press and the "vol up vol up" texts keeps refreshing as-though it was a new key press.
Also thank you very much for checking it out :victory:

Yep exactly as you say here.
Volume up once shows just volume up beeps once, twice shows volume up twice and beeps twice . Holding it down beeps over and over again and shows volume up twice.
Pressing volume down once from here (volume up volume up) shows volume up volume down, press volume down once more now shows volume down twice.
Hope this helps

Yeah it helps that I can probably assume that my buttons work fine.. I was thinking maybe they weren't registering as long pressed or something but apparently not this is really frustrating. Especially when an app freezes and I just have to sit there indefinitely till it comes back online or the battery goes flat
And I have no idea if it's something I did or something with the phone.
All I know for sure is that brand new it did work as I hard reset a couple times. Then I unlocked the bootloader and have no memory of it working since then... It makes no sense to me why completely returning to stock and relocking the bootloader has no effect though.

Yeah, I could imagine. You will have to find a cool fast battery draining game to help you along .
Not sure that it would be related to you unlocking the boot loader, otherwise I am sure quite a few would have mentioned that before now.
Do you even get the first vibrate confirmation? Have you tested the vibrate from the same service test menu?

That what I'm thinking - can I seriously be the only one having this problem. And why the hell does everything else work perfectly fine lol.
And no I don't get any sort of response (vibration or anything). Normally it just results in the volume turns up then the screen locks or display just times out but even after a minute of holding pwr + vol up nothing happens and the phone is simply in sleep mode. Otherwise vibration works fine.. currently I'm restoring the backup I made of the out of the box stock rom.. that's pretty much the absolute last thing I can think of that might do anything. Trouble is I don't remember if I made the backup before or after unlocking the bootloader.. can't remember if I flashed a custom kernel to get CWM or installed it otherwise...

I would recommend re unlocking the bootloader, the problem is a kernel level driver or hardware but it is definitely around that level.
Did you have any problems, or errors when you first unlocked the bootloader? Maybe Doomlord could give you some of his incredible knowledge on the subject

No the phone is 100% operational outside of the hard reset not working. It is just when I get stuck in a app that freezes or when CWM recovery tricks out and freezes I have to leave the phone for ages till either it a)unfreezes after an hour or so somehow, or b) the battery dies and it shuts off after a couple or more hours.
When your phone is out of action every second day simply cause you can't turn it off it gets pretty annoying haha. If it had a removeable battery I could easily live with it and just rip the batt out no dice.

Stranger still is that I've began to notice that in flash mode the LED briefly flick green once then turns off when entering flash mode. Flash mode is still active, it just appears as though the phone is off :/

I went through the set up screen of Aroma as usual and ticked the options that I have always done but this time the installer is stuck at 0% for well over 2 hours now. The green bar still moves at the bottom but nothing has happened aside from that.
Whats the best way to get out of, what appears to be a frozen installation process? Is it best to just let the phone's battery run down or should I try to force quit the set up process?
Thanks

I went through the set up screen of Aroma as usual and ticked the options that I have always done but this time the installer is stuck at 0% for well over 2 hours now. The green bar still moves at the bottom but nothing has happened aside from that.
Whats the best way to get out of, what appears to be a frozen installation process? Is it best to just let the phone's battery run down or should I try to force quit the set up process?
Thanks

Keep holding the power button down until the phone reboots, takes a while sometimes. Power and volume down might work also. Holding the phone under a bright light and holding down the power and volume down button is another option.
Once you reboot, just try installing ARHD again...
I don't think hes going to be able to get out of it with the power button, he should use the toolkit to force a reboot. Thats will work 100% of the time.

toolkit? all you need to do is adb reboot
Is it plugged into a charger?
If it is, unplug it.
