Hello,
I'm come from HTC Desire, and I'm reading last two-three hours about rooting I9070, and really confused...
Firstly I found this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985199
My firmware is:
I9070XXLK2 I9070PRTLK1
unfortunately there isn't rooted firmware for me in thread above.
Nextly I found this (ugly method):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660419
and in addtion, this method for reseting binary counter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137518
but, step 10 of this "ugly" procedure says:
"For other firmwares you can download appropriate kernels here"
and there isn't XXLK2 kernel.
Please point me in right direction, any links? threads?

If you do not want JB: use ugly method. Download your firmware. Remove md5 extension, use Winrar od 7zip to remove all stuff exept kernel.bin.md5 and you have that kernel you are missing from that method. Do all those steps. And when you are finished use Triangle Away to reset binary counter to 0.

Added:
This is unbelievable, I unpacked root.zip and looked inside, busybox, su and superuser apks
and updater script... it's really simple, but it can't work...
Zip file should be signed with Samsung key in order to work.... AFAIK
I don't know how Shaan done it.
I'm think about using it, after read updater script I think if it work it can't broke my ROM
Stock recovery can' see root.zip file on sdcard I tried with card formated to FAT16 and FAT32, also fill with zeros (linux dd) my card and repartiotion it with gparted... no success.
I red again very carefully updater-script and AFAIK it could be installed from internal storage... so i tried...
signature verification failed.

.
So only ugly method.

Back to this option.
And KINGbabasula explain us how did you root GB with that.
P.S. That method with changing kernels works on same thing, pushing SU file in system/bin folder. SU is in rootkernel.bin md5 and yoh flash over your stock kernel because that rootkernel is not stable. So, problem is that there are no Odin flashable kernels for newer, updated firmwares. But you can make it by doing what I said.

I cannot seem to find the answer that I am looking for for my issue, maybe i missed it.
I tried for ages to get to the root plus cwm to work and i could not make it happen for my phone, is there a way to put on the cwm option POST root?
I was able to get the phone rooted but had to go about it a separate way and i would like to put some custom rom action on this miserably boring phone.
Thanks
I rooted my phone first then used mobile Odin pro to flash the cf kernel which means I now have cwm and recovery.

Does that page say Ultimate Rooting Guide for GNote at the top then have the kernal versions listed then the options I can direct or cannot direct root at the bottom of the page with links?

Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

Hi i tryed all the ways to root my Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830), SuperOneClick, upd_1.zip
I get the superuser application on it but doesn't give me root acces, so its still not rooted,

I did it!
I know this is an old Thread but I wanted to post that I did and how I did it: The problem was because of my stock rom limited space so I used thinkdroid.apk_removal.zip to remove thinkdroid from device and free space for full super user installation was now there, and afther the thinkdroid.apk every root atempt worked flawlesly.
The problem was because of the Hugo Boss Rom that had a limited internal memory, ow and I needed to delete everything on internal memory, so if someone is having the same problem:
1 factory reset
2 from recovery flash thinkdroid removal
3 flash root_upd1 (or any root zip for sga)
done

I did exactly like in the tutorials, I copied the root.zip to sd card, putted device in recovery mod, update from sd card, reboot, got super user on device but, no root acces, so i "unrooted" my device, to delete the unworking superuser, how do i make it work ? please help... In the tutorials there is nothing sayed about flashing( I don't know well this term I think it means installing operating sistem on device) I don't want to flash a nother operating sistem version of android, I just want to root my device. Make the superuser work, grant root acces for applications...
Video example of what i did [update data from sdcard] : youtube video /watch?v=rUSn0E_dWMg (and unrooted and tryed a lot of diferent root.zip files none worked... unrooted and wiped to factory settings after every fail...)

SO i need to flash cfroot kernel, afther that the superuser app will work fine, my device will have ropot acces, and apps that needs root acces will work? can i flash a cfroot kernel via recovery mod/ update from sdcard ?
1. Backup everything on your device
2. Do a factory reset
3. Apply upd_1.zip (for Gingerbread 2.3.5, 2.3.6, attachment)
4. Put all your files back.
Do not extract the zip file! Just select the .zip file from your SD card.
Tested: Galaxy Ace - 2.3.5 Stock

I used a tutorial here to do the same XDA root and it worked, I had no trouble doing this, it may be that some people make out it gives error.

I did this again and again many times, step by step and I did it now again with you're zip file, step by step... I got tired of trying, still not rooted, I get the Superuser app installed, but I don't have root acces, the applications that require root acces they say I don't have it .... look at the screenshots from my first post...

Do factory reset.
Don't install anything on the internal memory.
If you have any app that requires root access, delete them (ex: ROM Manager, Superuser etc.)
2 options:
Try the .zip file again
or
Use SuperOneClick ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 )
If you use SuperOneClick make sure you follow the steps.
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.

Try to update to the latest software using Samsung Kies!
Then try the .zip file or SuperOneClick.
EDIT: Make sure you enable Unknown Sources: Settings -> Applications -> Unknown sources
If the .zip files don't work, try this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603273

I see that I allredy have the latest version on my ace...
Try to flash a 2.3.5 Stock. Most phones have 2.3.5 pre-installed. Install a ROM like CyanogenMod to get 2.3.7 and extra features when you are done rooting.
Get a 2.3.5 ROM at samfirmware.com
You need to register and all the .zip files have a password (pass: samfirmware.com)
EDIT: Backup everything from your SD card and format it. Put it back and try again.
Good Day
Sorry I know this is stupid of me but I just messed up. I kinda installed the wrong stock firmware on my GT-N7000, recovery mode is still accessible and it still boots (somehow), so as what I have read, I can still fix it by loading the correct firmware for it, and so I managed to install XXLSZ update for GT-N7000 hoping that it would fix the problem (and I did not), recovery can still be accessed (but no display) and I can still switch to download mode (and as what I assume, there is still hope).
I tried to search for correct infos in my case but I just do not know what to do anymore (and these anxiety attacks are really painful).
Sorry for being incompetent but would somebody be able to help me on getting out of my problem?
Thank you very much.
P.S.
I do not know if this is a sort of brick but it might be a software problem
I AM GOING CURAZEH!
Install a JB stock Rom with PC Odin.

Sorry but I installed the following:
N7000XXLSZ_N7000XXLSO_N7000ITVLS4_HOME.tar.md5
Twice or thrice but no effect, screen is still black(screen doesnt have a single ray of light in it!)
Can you recommend me any steps or should I download a different stock firmware?
P.S.
Download mode is still responsive.

Instead of a JB ROM, try a stock GB ROM.
Instead of using 1 file flashing...
try 5 files flashing method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

With ODIN?
Download mode > put file on PDA > start
Am I missing a procedure ?
try a stock rom which has bootloader included like the stock XXLSZ german rom.. check if the rom you flashed earlier has a sbl file in it. open the md5 file using 7z and you can check.
what wrong rom did you flash?
