cwm post root - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot seem to find the answer that I am looking for for my issue, maybe i missed it.
I tried for ages to get to the root plus cwm to work and i could not make it happen for my phone, is there a way to put on the cwm option POST root?
I was able to get the phone rooted but had to go about it a separate way and i would like to put some custom rom action on this miserably boring phone.
Thanks

I rooted my phone first then used mobile Odin pro to flash the cf kernel which means I now have cwm and recovery.

Does that page say Ultimate Rooting Guide for GNote at the top then have the kernal versions listed then the options I can direct or cannot direct root at the bottom of the page with links?
They are still not opening if this is the correct location, can you just send me a direct link to the site?

[Q] Have i rooted it wrong??

oK So i rooted my phone using Odin.
can anyone tell me is there anything wrong with my kernel Version or anything??
im afraid that i might have done something wrong because i cant use Rom toolbox ,it would suddenly force close whenever i try to use it. My phone also easily overheats when i play games. is it because of the rooting?? what should i do to set it right? any kind advices would be helpful.thanks!
please do check on the image i attached since im a new user and cant put links.
its the "About Phone".
If iI am not mistaken you are still using stock KKA kernel and its not rooted yet. Find CF kernel that will match your firmware under development.
..
You are not suppose to Root it using Odin, How you rooted? mention steps you have followed
Can you see yellow triangle on Boot?

If you use Titanium Backup (Pro): just lauch it and at first screen it will tell you your Note is rooted or not. Simple to test.

Ok got it now, you did wrong.
You have rooted note with Netchip method, You shud not do it. Thats why you have got yellow triangle. Just check you binary counter, it may also get raised. You can see it during download mode (Vol down + Home + Power), you can see it on Lt upper corner, if it raised, you can reset it with JIG only.
Oh no... can i make that usb jig? ... do you think this link is good ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
"Custom Binary download: YES (1count)
Current Binary: Samsung Official"

Yes I have check that link too. It is Netchip method, later on Netchip also said 'Dont use it, otherwise it will raise binary count'
Correct method is, just read 1st link of my signature.
You can masde JIG yourself too, you have shown link is correct, OR you may purchase from market. You may find on Ebay, hardly it may cost 3-4 $
Dr. Ketan, i made my usb jig . i used it, it opened to the download mode but it did not reset. the only difference is that it written, Factory mode instead of Odin mode. What to do??
Dr.Ketan, I made my USB jig. my phone opened in download mode but the binary is not reset?..But instead of Odin Mode it is written Factory Mode.... what to do??'
have you followed this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888
Confirm JIG is working properly, n you have to follow last 3 steps blindly(in screen off)
timing is very important.
repeat procedure.
is this true?
http://pinoydroid.net/enable-usb-jig-binary-counter-reset-installing-firmware
that i have a new bootloader and i cant reset my binary counter?..
do you have any old bootloader i can use for my note?
I dont advise it. Just follow the link i have provided, many of Note user have successfully reset it.
Dr. Ketan, Thanks a bunch. Ill be doing it in a couple of days. Ill get some sleep and do this when "im in a peacful mind" .. i hope it will work.
once i will be able to reset it, can i unroot it and the maybe root it again without using the netchip method?.. or, it wouldnt matter anymore?... because cannot even change the boot animation, i think the rooting i did is bad.
Ya of course You can get Unroot / Root again.
And you have to follow right method to Root (find from my signature)
GudLuck !
I followed your link.. and YES!! my binary count has been reset.. ;D thank you thank you!! will follow your post to unroot..
I followed your unrooting video it was completed and the phone restarted but then when i check, i still have superuser app and i can still see the word "root" in my kernel version... any advice?
i found out that my phone still has SuperUser app but then i get this
so, my phone is rooted? or? ..as you can see i also have the circular battery display which normally are for rooted phones right?

Hey guys, I have the same problem. Tried the same method as above. Couldnt find the thread about it.
I Even tried to download the stock firmware from Dr.Ketan's post and use Odin but couldnt extract the files.

Thanks
you need to use jig, if you have raised binary counter, back to stock ROM, can't solve it.
BTW, use winrar/7zip to extract file.

Using a jig is unfortunately the only way to reset your Samsung Note into a clean (warranty friendly) status. To be honest... it is some kind of "blind flight" because after loading the old ("wrong") bootloader via ODIN your device will show nothing after the reboot. Could be a little be scary for some people... but it works ;-)

Before I do this, I am going to use Odin to go back to stock.
I downloaded this firmware from your post:
N7000DXLA1 -------2.3.6 2012 January-----N7000OLBKL2-------Malaysia
Questions:
1. Do I need the PDA & CSC files to execute this unroot? Where can I obtain it? Have been searching for hours still cant find it.
2. What is the best way to root it again?
Thank you.

I'd like to speed up my Note. Kinda sluggish at stock. Even iPhones are smoother. What is Rocket Rom & Litening Rom? Is it safe? Which is better? or are there any better ones out there?
Just before unrooting I was using AbyssNote2.3, 1.703GHz, alot of heating & no difference that it was earlier. Netchip was smoother.
Thanks
Zergrush n CF root using same exploit to Root. CF root have extra benifit that it pushes CWM along with Root.
Really I never used any custom ROM till day. N it depend on own choice n requirement. You can find details n review of other on corresponding ROM thread, I can't comment much on it.

[Q] Root gingerbread 2.3.4 v20i

Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

Confused with rooting process...

Hello,
I'm come from HTC Desire, and I'm reading last two-three hours about rooting I9070, and really confused...
Firstly I found this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985199
My firmware is:
I9070XXLK2 I9070PRTLK1
unfortunately there isn't rooted firmware for me in thread above.
Nextly I found this (ugly method):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660419
and in addtion, this method for reseting binary counter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137518
but, step 10 of this "ugly" procedure says:
"For other firmwares you can download appropriate kernels here"
and there isn't XXLK2 kernel.
Please point me in right direction, any links? threads?

If you do not want JB: use ugly method. Download your firmware. Remove md5 extension, use Winrar od 7zip to remove all stuff exept kernel.bin.md5 and you have that kernel you are missing from that method. Do all those steps. And when you are finished use Triangle Away to reset binary counter to 0.

Added:
This is unbelievable, I unpacked root.zip and looked inside, busybox, su and superuser apks
and updater script... it's really simple, but it can't work...
Zip file should be signed with Samsung key in order to work.... AFAIK
I don't know how Shaan done it.
I'm think about using it, after read updater script I think if it work it can't broke my ROM
Stock recovery can' see root.zip file on sdcard I tried with card formated to FAT16 and FAT32, also fill with zeros (linux dd) my card and repartiotion it with gparted... no success.
I red again very carefully updater-script and AFAIK it could be installed from internal storage... so i tried...

So only ugly method.

Back to this option.
And KINGbabasula explain us how did you root GB with that.
P.S. That method with changing kernels works on same thing, pushing SU file in system/bin folder. SU is in rootkernel.bin md5 and yoh flash over your stock kernel because that rootkernel is not stable. So, problem is that there are no Odin flashable kernels for newer, updated firmwares. But you can make it by doing what I said.

I'll prepare my prerooted rom for first (best) metod. It is easy for smb who work with Linux for years.

Hello,
I'm come from HTC Desire, and I'm reading last two-three hours about rooting I9070, and really confused...
Firstly I found this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985199
My firmware is:
I9070XXLK2 I9070PRTLK1
unfortunately there isn't rooted firmware for me in thread above.
Nextly I found this (ugly method):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660419
and in addtion, this method for reseting binary counter:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137518
but, step 10 of this "ugly" procedure says:
"For other firmwares you can download appropriate kernels here"
and there isn't XXLK2 kernel.
Please point me in right direction, any links? threads?

it was 2.3.3
Restock. Then install cwm, then restore from nandroid. You can just restore nandroid from a different partition scheme.

As Priyana said you have to restock your system if you want to downgrade from jb based rom to gb which are not working on the same file system, try the overcome guide to do so.

Attached is the Overcome guide, after extracting and executing index.html, go to paragraph Re-“Stocking” Yer System… and follow the instructions, make sure to choose the appropriate files for your device, you can either preserve the GB stock rom or install the overcome custom rom.
