Yes, I did. I rooted my TL. That was a fun day. Next day I decide to flash KXP, but lo and behold, I downloaded the wrong FW for my phone. I flashed using ClockworkMod Recovery, and *poof* my phone goes black and doesn't respond to anything I throw at. I tried the power + volume up combo. Nope. Repeated it. Again. Again. Then I decided to try power + volume down. My phone responded somewhat: the LED slowly flashes green when connected to my computer (Windoze XP, Mac OS 10.8). Green for a few seconds, off. Green for a few seconds, off. I tried running adb devices but it didn't show up in the connected devices list. If anybody has any suggestions, please no Linux. Mac or Windows please. Shell scripts, batch files, software with a GUI, I don't care. I just want my phone back, rooted or unrooted.
PS: I bought my phone late December from AT&T. Do you think my warranty is out?
Download the correct ftf for your phone and flash it in flashtool.
If it does not work please post the output log from flashtool

I love you. Thank you so much! I would the Thanks button so many times.

Is this a firmware error or an operator error?

In the all in one thread. First thread in the Q&A section.
There is also a thread on how to root TL
EDIT
D'oh, you even started that thread on how to root the TL.... :facepalm.
Probably this will be of interest: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975849
Day 2 of Flash
After flashing yesterday, I thought things were looking up. Then I went to take a screenshot today, and lo-and-behold, "Couldn't save screenshot. Storage may be in use." But then I also bought a new SD card on Saturday, but it was working fine then, so I think it's concerning the FTF. Evernote: "Database Read/Write Error"
FrostWire: Cool, I'm gonna say I'm downloading file and he won't know jack. Yeah, I'm on to you, Frosty.
Downloading from Chrome: Unsuccessful.
So, all the apps that require my SD card (external) cannot function. And I can't root this FW (tried it a few times). So does anybody know of a FW for TL that can I root?
Re: Bricked
1) Backup your sd card, then format it.
2) Use the same firmware that you rooted last time.

I've seen Spectre has used a T 303 on a TL and excluded the baseband to save LTE. Can I use a different carrier firmware and still keep my baseband? I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I like to do some research before I jump in.

Yes, of course.
Ok. This is crazy. I've three different firmwares from O2, Vodafone, and an unbranded one and none of them let me download from Chrome, or allow me to root my phone. Is there a step that I'm missing? I've tried Flashtool rooting, and Bin4ry's standalone method, and neither worked. Is there a problem I'm not seeing clearly?

Hey,
in latest firmware there is a update to S1Boot (to Version R10A21). I think most users who DONT USE PCC/SEUS will not have the update because Flashtool does not decrypt it correctly.
I packed it up into German Firmware, so if you are interested you can flash this Firmware and then just reflash ANY OTHER Firmware if you dont want to stay on German one. After S1Boot got updated it will stay updated no matter what Firmware you flash afterwards, becasue normally it is not included.
File can be downloaded here from my Firmware collection, directlink to Xperia T folder:

Hi Binary, Can I confirm that I can backup my current stock rom (7.0.A.3.195) using CWM recovery (advanced kernel v4), then flash this for S1 update, then (correct me if I am wrong please!) re-flash kernel and then restore rom via CWM: resulting in being back to my current rom but with S1 Boot update.
Also just check that I should use "Generic DE (S1Boot-Update).ftf" - is this the one you refer to in the OP.?

It is included inside the SEUS files for the 195 Version, but "problem" is that we need to update Flashtool so that it decrypts the File correctly. For now we only added the "alternate" decryption for Loader, now S1Boot seems to be updated too Which is quite good, maybe they add features in future like button for recovery

Do your PCC Files are 3 or 4 Files? If your firmware includes the S1Boot update then it should be 4 Files!!
IT CAN BE that the branding firmwares does NOT include the S1Boot update, maybe that is the reason

But guess what, (Like a noob) i forgot i cant use pccompanion anymore because of unlocked bootloader..D'oh
Anyway, any chance of instructions on how to manually decrypt it (Probably nothing simple) or if I send you the files can you incoorporate them into my .ftf so I can flash it?
I canthen also add a branded vodafobe version with the new boot to the ftf list.

Easy
Time taken
I did it in less than 10 minutes
1. Download one of the .ftf's from the OP that have the s1 boot update in title.
2. make a backup of your current rom
3. Download, install and set up flashtool. (Link in the all in one thread)
4. Drag and drop the .ftf into the open window of flashtool.
5. Tick all the boxes that say exclude except the one that says exclude uncategorized Check the attached image
6. Flash the .ftf following flashtool instructions
7. Reboot phone and check your s1 boot version, it should now be updated
8. Reboot into recovery and restore your backup.
9. You are now on the latest s1 boot with the same rom you had before.
EDIT
Alternative Method.
Flash this LT30_7.0.A.3.195_Generic DE (S1Boot-ONLY).ftf - 725.46 KB

After having many problems rooting my xperia t james bond phone, I decided making a noob-ready tutorial on how to root the xperia t and probably other phones aswell.
No technical stuff, just follow the steps and you will be rooted in no time.
I did this with:
android version 4.0.4
build 7.0.A.3.195
So the very first thing you should do is unlocking your bootloader. Sony has made their own tutorial on how to do this, but It can be a little complicated. Im gonna link you to it and to a videp which explains it very well. I prefer the video myself.
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e1DYnoxUm0
After that you will need to unlock recovery mode. You can do this in 2 ways but I prefer the easy one.
The easy one is:
Installing a custom kernel with recovery mode integrated in it.
Use this link to download the kernel or go to the forum thread where I found it:
http://www.mediafire.com/?n4v89r2fvri2wlb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922925
Now that you've got the kernel with recovery mode integrated downloaded, we need to flash/install it into the phone.
You need to do this via flashtool. That's atleast the easiest I think.
You can download flashtool from the following website:
http://androxyde.github.com/
Install it. If you have problems installing the drivers for flashtool, you can use this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOC57DfI1zo
Now you need to make sure your phone is on and connected to your pc.
Open flashtool and click on the thunderbolt in the upper left corner.
Select fastboot mode.
Now select "Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB)"
Wait for it to reboot. There should be a blue light turned on, on your phone.
Now look at your pc screen again. Click on "Select Kernel To Flash"
Select the kernel that I Gave you in the beginning of the tutorial.
Wait for it to install and your mobile probably reboot etc. untill it is on.
Now download Superuser zip file : https://rapidshare.com/#!download|939p5|3415386268|Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip|1324|0|0
Place the Superuser zip file on your mobile phone memory card or internal memory.
Now Turn off your phone completely.
Now we are gonna go into recovery mode to install Superuser.
There are several ways to do this but the one I use is holding both the volume buttons down and then holding the power button aswell.
(I did this when my phone was connected from my pc) or you use this video (skip to 3:31)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fMk0PhA_qc
It should boot into recovery mode. You can use the volume buttons to go up and down and the power button to select. Browse to the sdcard for the superuser.zip file and install it. (the most easy part).
Now go back to the start screen of recovery mode and select reboot into system.
Done, you have now got a fully rooted xperia T lt30p
Please tell me if I missed something. My first post ever lol
This post helped me alot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903137
Many thanks for your input here, but it is just a replication of the all in one thread instructions.
Also, to enter recovery mode you just need to press the volume up button when the purple led appears at boot up, you dont need to press all 3 buttons.
Also, you can download the SuperSU.apk directly from the market instead of flashing it in recovery.
Never the less, this is quite comprehensive and i have linked it to the all in one thread.

coincidence, official updates do not rely on root status.

This firmware can now be rooted without unlocking the bootloader, read post 2 of the All in one thread (Q&A section) to find instructions..
Hey guys,
I have been trying to root my Xperia Z (10.3.1.A.2.67) for the past three hours now with no success..
I followed this guide: www android gs/root-xperia-z-stock-10-3-1-a-0-2442-67-firmware/ and am now stuck at step 3 of the actual rooting (not the preparation). I cannot seem to find how I can flash the custom kernel to my phone using Emma.
I have googled around for a while and found that I can add services to Emma using the tools menu, too bad I don't have one: prntscr com/23psmy
I would love to root my phone or at least get my own kernel thingy back D:

Yup, and I've never even had this error before: http://prntscr.com/23qkdm
You downloaded Flashtools from here, right?

One thing to consider is that Emma Flashtool is NOT Flashtools.
You CANNOT flash custom kernels from Emma.

I have, and it does NOT work, tried every windows version in there, not a single one worked. Tried restarting, safe mode, compatibility mode, admin mode and restarting again. It's been way too long now and I'm just giving up. This went so much easier with my S3...
I'll try again tomorrow if I feel like it but if I have to go through all this freaking trouble I don't think it'll be worth it..
Can anyone please help my with this? Because I don't want to have a reset phone that hasn't even been rooted..
Download it again and check the MD5 of the file you downloaded. As a quick check, the file should be around 112MB.
Something is definitely wrong, as there are many people using Flashtool on Windows 8 without issues and it is definitely not a 16 bit application (32 and 64 bit executables are installed).

Alright I got it to work now. However, I get the following error when trying to flash another kernel:
13/016/2013 21:16:11 - INFO - Please unplug and start your phone

I enabled debugging and unknown sources and held my flash button (volume down) while plugging in my phone again. (Also tried volume up) Neither one worked.
The only thing that changed is that my wifi won't enable anymore.

Can't see any errors. Looks like a clean kernel flash.
What's exactly the error? You lacking wifi? Are you using a custom kernel like DooMLord's?
For wifi to work on Doom's kernel you have to flash the kernel.zip from recovery.

I also don't see any errors. Don't worry about wifi not working. You should only be running with the old kernel long enough to root, so it doesn't matter.
Root using DooMLoRD's script, flash your original kernel back and you're done.

Hello everyone,
I am new here and I'm having really hard time going around the forums and searching for what I seek and everything is so confusing and I really need someone's help. I've never done this and it terrifies me to screw up my phone. Here's the deal, I want to root my Sony Xperia Z so I can remove the useless built in apps and maybe get a cool theme. I've been looking for threads but there are so many and I don't know which one to take, most talk about some firmware I don't even know what that is but I looked a bit on the internet and found out which is so here are my phone specs:
Sony Xperia Z
C6603
4.3 Jelly Bean
Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
Firmware thing: 10.4.B.0.569
Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much.

Welcome to xda where everyone starts off as a noob
Don't worry we all make mistakes hopefully a moderator will move it in the right place.
Now to answer your questions
a) A firmware is the software installed on your device you have got it right in your specs.
b) The method of rooting depends on the firmware. The firmware you have does not allow easy rooting.
You have two options since your bootloader can be unlocked
1) Backup your ta partition using the backup utility and store it on your computer. Unlock your bootloader and root your device by following the guide posted by cookie ninja in the xperia z
android development section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2656698
[GUIDE][ROOT] How to Root 101 Firmware and regain LB
2) Downgrade your firmware to android 4.2.2 by flashing an FTF file using flashtool (you can find these in the development section as well) and then root using doomlords rooting toolkit. You can then upgrade to even android 4.4 by flashing any of the pre rooted roms from the development section.
All the best.

Hi
Welcome to xda
First you cant root 4.3 only if unlock bootloader and the unlock not hard but better try downgrade to 4.2.2:
Download a software called flashtool from here and install it then after install finish go to the place where you install flashtool and find folder called DRIVERS open it and you will find an exe file open it and select xperia z- flashmode drivers - fastboot drivers then install
Get an FTF file for flashtool like that
After the ftf download finish put the ftf file in "frimware" folder in the place you installed flashtool
Open flashtool then click the lighning icon
Select your downloaded FTF
After few minutes you will see screen appear says WAITING FOR FLASH MODE
Turn off you phone
Hold the volume down button then connect your phone with your pc with usb cable
After few minutes you will see your phone downgradedto 4.2.2
THIS WILL DELETE ALL YOU APPS AND DATA IN YOUR PHONE!!! So better make backup!!.the phone must charged to 80%
Now root your device with kingo root this tool not working on 4.3 that why i said must DOWNGRADE
Install CWM and TWRP recovery here
After finish get a PREROOTED ROM like this
Flash it in recovery
Now we finished
Other notes: the flashtool and FTF can repair your phone if bricked so dont panic if that happened just use the lighting icon:angel:
Hit thanks if helped

Sony smartphones are nearly impossible to hard brick, unless you restored a wrong bootloader TA partition.(the one not from your own device)
The worst case scenario which you can get is total wipeout of every data you have on your phone, so always make a backup of things you need before doing anything.
The things you will need:
1.Basic computer skills
2.Knowing the bootloader of your phone
3.Knowing how to use custom recovery (cwm or twrp)
4.Knowing how to use flashtool
5.Keep a backup of firmware files (ftf) in case anything happen
6.Always check the forum in case the old backup of something of yours won't work in your phone after you updated
Thank you guys, you're all wonderful.

If you want stock unmodded one you can do it without root. And if you want a rooted with dual recovery you will need root
But I advise you not to use stock kitkat because its lags alot and low battery life
Try those if you want:
Stock no root needed ( flash via flashtool)
Modded and fast with Root and recoveryROOT NEEDED
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing my guide here.
The easier way to create a kernel only FTF is just to open a complete FTF in your archiving software (I use WinRAR) and delete everything except kernel.sin, loader.sin and the META-INF directory. That's it. It takes seconds.

If you updated via OTA, then root is usually kept in that case.

Lots of reasons:
If OTA isn't released yet.
To recover from a brick.
If you've modified /system then OTA will fail.
If your bootloader is unlocked then you cannot update by official methods.
Etc.

I did an OTA update (about 130 mb). after long usage, my battery died and phone powered off.
When I tried to charge it, the phone was bootlooping. It happened for 1 hour and the phone was damn hot.
Luckily, I woke up took the phone out of charger -- otherwise i would have seen a "Xperia ZR Barbecue" the next morning.
The phone did not even get connected in flash mode or fastboot mode because of 0% battery.
I managed to charge the battery a bit and, thank god it got connected in fastboot mode.
I unlocked bootloader and flashed mokee 4.4.4 kernel. Then offline charging worked.
When it was charged enough, I relocked bootloader and flashed .101 JB stock rom, and did a fresh update through PC Companion.
Now, offline charging is fine. For a while I thought I had my phone bricked.
But thank god, I was able to recover it.
So the advice to everyone who did an OTA update is to check offline charging is working fine, before your battery dies.
please anyone upload Xperia ZR_10.5.A.0.230_kernel_only.ftf for 5502 variant
