Yeah hey, great start of the week
Was listening music with walkman on my 19 day old Xperia V on commute to work this morning when suddenly noticing my first sleep of death after fiddling around with equalizer settings... well, music continued and only the screen didn't turn on anymore so I just continued to work.
There I pulled the battery but afterwords nothing. :crying: No Sony nor Xperia logo at boot, just screen backlight on for a few seconds and then off again after which you could guess a few touch buttons active since the phone vibrated to the touch on the lower part of the screen as if there was a keypad there. You were even able to turn off and on again that reaction as if the sleep button was doing its work as usual.
Taking out battery, SIM and microSD didn't help, also not pausing for longer time. Still same short black boot to invisible touch pad.
Went to the shop and got an exchange unit right away! Best thing... there was another guy there in the shop complaining about s.o.d.s but his V booted fine again after pulling the battery.
hope I'm the only guy with this problem...
BTW, got it stock with Jelly Bean on it and didn't root nor unlock
Cheers

ok, try to repair with SUS or PC Com.
When you repair finish, delete all data im internal memory, sdcard (all data), then repair again. Then copy data (music, video, not data of apps) back and try. May be SoD not show.
If the repair in SUS or PC Com can not work, may be your phone was brick. Send it back to Sony Center :good:
Hey, thanks for the Tip of how to try repairing...
But as I pointed out, fortunately the Shop I bought it exchanged my unit with a new one without a lot of discussing!

Greetings,
I'm not experienced with android devices, so i thought i'd ask here first before trying to do anything.
Since a few months ago some weird things started happening to my X8 - random display glitches and blackouts at completely random intervals (sometimes one or even two a day, sometimes it can last two or more weeks w/o an incident, i haven't figured out any relation yet).
Glitches manifest in distorted view on screen - shifted up/down/sideways - or colored graphics artefacts - up to completely bizarre patterns of random-colored pixels covering the whole screen. Weirdly enough, pushing power button as if to lock the screen usually alleviates the issue, sometimes i need to do it few times to remove completely, but it works. Touchscreen works fine, but i need to tap the "right" spot on the screen, not where it's displayed on the screen ("right" as in where the element is when the screen is not glitching).
The other issue (may be related) i'm having with the phone is random screen "blackouts" - the screen goes completely black and the power button cycling doesn't help - but the phone still reacts to screen input (i.e. i can unlock the screen by dragging the slider, launch app, start/stop music playback and so on). I can see the backlight on, so it's definitely screen/gfx hardware issue, not backlight. If i try to reboot the phone, it hangs on either shutdown or boot up. Removing the battery, placing it back and booting the phone up doesn't help - it vibrates as usual, i see the backlight go up, but screen stays black and i can't interact with the phone even if i leave it there for a few minutes (which is more than enough for it to boot up - it usually takes ~30 seconds till full boot). Also the backlight won't go off. It usually helps to boot normally if i hit the phone with a palm on the back side and/or leave it alone for a while. This issue is much more rare (only had it three times), but it puts the phone out of service for a while, so it's an issue for me.
Now, the device info:
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 E15i
015 baseband
10W44
Unlocked bootloader
Alfs8 kernel (2.6.29.6-Alfs v08a 24/03/2012)
GingerDX v026 ROM
No cpu tweaks done, cpu governor "ONDEMAND", cpu speeds 122-600.
The glitches started when i was still using the older version, GindgerDX v013 with locked bootloader, i have done factory reset and flashed a new version with new kernel (and unlocked the loader along the way), but apparently it did not help fix the issues.
I can't provide and screenshots/photos of the issue because the only camera i have access to at most times when it happens is my phone one and, obviously, i can't use that in this case
The question is: can i still try to fix it by myself (i can do it if it doesn't involve disassembling the phone completely - i don't have the screwdrivers required) by software tweaks or other techniques or should i reflash stock kernel/rom, apply for warranty and hope they find the defect and fix it? I really do like the phone. Or, maybe, you have encountered anything resembling these issues and may shed some light on what's happening.
Appreciate any input in trying to figure out and fix this.
Thank you if you have read all this even if you can't help me, cheers!
1st problem could be 'Screen Cut' issue which is solved using kernel without FPS Cap...
2nd problem usually happens on my phone with miniCM9 3.0.2 but shows splash and boot animation...
Can you see the splash screen and the bootanimation? Because my friends' Xperia Ray has the issue on official firmware... so it could be hardware damage...
Try unlocking the screen then press the power button then press it again...
and also try flashing the stock firmware... If it doesn't work... I think you should live with it...
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Reflash stock kernel and ROM and full wipe and then flash a different ROM and see it it still happens. If it does I think it is advisable to send it to Sony for repair.

Thanks for your replies, i'll try reflashing the stock rom and see if it still happens.
@Lily48: no, no splashcreen or boot animation, just black screen and visible backlight.
I have the same problem and I checked it many times and my conclusion is....ITS A HARDWARE PROBLEM NOT SOFTWARE..

Sorry for double post, but this is important update:
My phone died this morning with the permanent black screen syndrome. Until i rebooted i could use it to receive phone calls or even listen to music (i knew where to touch to activate the features). However it would not boot sompletely after restart, even if i leave it for ~hour. Connecting to flashtool showed that it does boot to a certain stage, but no GUI (for user interaction with haptic feedback) available - the flashtool does show that device connected with usb debugging enabled.
I reflashed the stock ROM, now it's apparently stuck in some sort of bootloop - it keeps on connecting and disconnecting. But the screen is still black, with backlight. If i remove the battery, replace it and just connect to pc w/o trying to boot on, it acts normally as if trying to charge - backlight activates for a few seconds if i touch a key and green led is lit, but still the screen is black.
I will RMA it tomorrow, thanks for help, hopefully i'll get a new one, or they'll repair this one so it does not glitch on me again. Anyway it was/is a good phone, i absolutely love it.
Wish me luck =]

It is a hardware problem and Sony Service Center is the last option you have.. if your X8 is in warranty period.
I did the same and they replaced its display with new one.
Hello, reporting back in:
Just got my X8 back, it really was a hardware problem. They changed the screen now it works as good as new =]
Thanks everyone for support
My AT&T Xperia TL screen isn't turning on. It happened all on a sudden. Phone is all stock - never been dropped. Phone still works as I can hear camera shutter clicks by pressing the camera button. I can also hear other notification sounds. The display itself just doesn't work. Interestingly, I saw the backlight once or twice during startup as I restarted it 7/8 times. Screen never came on though.
Already repaired twice through PC companion - didn't make any difference.
Any help would be appreciated!

Take it back to the shop. If its stock, not been damaged and you have done the official repair, get them to replace it.

Thanks! Problem is I have to ship it to their repair center and it'll take a while to get my phone back. I was wondering I could probably try out something on my own if it's some kind of software glitch. Even though, it's more likely to be a hardware issue - then I'm gonna have to take the longer path.
I'm a bit of surprised. This is my 10th Sony (Ericsson) phone in last 5 years. I have never had any issue till now and I really take good care of my phones.
Did anybody experience this problem?
I have not seen any threads on here work a similar problem
Sent whilst sat on the toilet.
Try holding all the buttons for 10 seconds or the power button alone if I remember. This happened to my brother once and had to perform this to get it back working

I've got the same problem with a Xperia T! The annoying thing is that the phone has just come back from the Sony repair centre.... Never had this problem before... 3 or 4 times in a day the display doesn't turn on and I have to force a soft reset, but the phone still vibrates, still receives messages and the notification LED works! I guess those idiots messed up with something during the repair.... It's gonna be the third time i send them the phone and they keep giving it back with a different problem! Tired of these retards, I hope that they can give me a new device... This one's fu**** up...
It's probably a software related issue, as always

ok so i've been using it a bit but my battery was 70% last i checked. was playing around with throw and just opened youtube and the screen flickered a bit (black lines) then decided to go black completely.
nothing i do will make the screen do anything.
holding the power button for ages (usually the way to turn off/reboot a phone) doesnt do anything. the backlight is on as i can see that. but nothing is on the screen.
anyone got any ideas on how to force a shutdown/reboot on these?

IIRC the Xperia Z1 has a hard reset button under the sim flap, it's a small red button, give it a shot.
remove sim card and sd card and try again, if it's still not responding do an update repair using SUS or PCC
BTW there is a known fault with the XZU and it could also be on the Z1 as they use similar Firmware, what people have found is that the phone will start up eventually and then they go into the display setting and untick the auto backlight option and that fixes it
I also reboot my Z1in this way when it blackout.

Had the same issue called Sony, push hard reset button all is fine in the world. Known issue Sony is working on it
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk 4
Managed to hard reset using power and up volume .
Put it on charge overnight but it doesn't see,m to have taken any charge at all....just trying again using diff PSU and cables but it doesn't want to charge. It recognises that I've out a cable in as I played with the smart connect setting. When it is off completely I get a red light (presumably meaning its charging ) but not in android
Any ideas?
Got it charging again by pushing the red button near sim slot for a couple seconds.
Just had another issue with SD card not being recognised after I removed another (/safely) had to reboot again using power plus vol up as it stuck on the shutdown logo when I tried to power down'...
Wow I can't believe the amount of issues I've ran into within 24hours of having this thing. I really don't know what to do...return it because it sounds like a faulty device (but all the issues are seemingly unrelated) or return and get another phone (is anyone else getting problems like I am?)
Sometimes phones have issues. I got one once that had no speakers or Mic inside... it happens lol
Try to go exchange it, and see if the next device gives you issues.. if not then you're good, if it does pick a different phone..
Do it soon though, most carriers only have a 14 day exchange period, and then after that will charge you all sorts of fees and try to fix your phone rather than just giving you a new one....

sounds like a similar problem I had with my 64gb SD card - as I mentioned above remove all cards then start from there - a reflash of the firmware might help also

Something happened to mine with Youtube too. I'd started a video and paused it on a frame for comparison with another screen. While I was setting the other phone up, the screen on Z1 timed out. I pressed power, the screen come on and flickered, then went black!
Power and both volume keys function the same as the red button under the flap. I wasn't able to reproduce the bug.

yeah i've been trying to reproduce it and failing to. very odd. maybe its something to do with the first time you use youtube and do something specific?
gunna phone o2 up tomorrow and see what they say about all my issues. seems to have been fine this last 24 hours though and in their eyes that is prob reason enough not to issue a replacement.
I've had mine since Monday and this happened to me yesterday. I was troubleshooting sending MMS with T-Mobile tech support (not a phone issue as it was happening on previous phones too) and had to restart the phone several times. I noticed upon restarting that the backlight seemed to be on but the phone was not booting up. Had to perform several hard resets (both with the red reset button as well as the power/volume up buttons) before it FINALLY rebooted and stayed on. While trying to figure this out I ran a Google search to see if others were having this problem. One solution was to make sure the backlight option is checked. I had been messing with settings the night before and must have unchecked it. Since I rechecked it I haven't had the same issue.
Hello all,
I own a Z3 Compact since now 4 months, I bought it abroad, in Qatar and went back to Belgium after.
Overall, I'm very happy of it. Nothing to say.
Yesterday, the phone was almost full in battery, connected in bluetooth in the car... I tried to pick it up and turn it on, it wasn't working anymore. The screen stay black. I tried to turn it off, then on, impossible.
I tried to push the vol up and down then power button all together during 30 sec, nothing worked.
I tried to press the yellow button near the sim card, nothing helped.
I also tried to do all those combinations with the power plug connected, but even the power led is not showing up !
The phone seems to be turned off and I'm unable to turn it on again. I've read some forums and it looks like it's a common problems with Sony Xperia phones (ex: Link).
The date on the paper near the sim slot says 14W36 (Year 2014, Week 36).
I'm wondering if I should return the phone to Sony for warranty ?
If yes, do you think it will work even if the phone hasn't been bought in Belgium ?
Thanks
Tried Sony's FlashTool ?
Hi,
before I send it back, I would try Sony's Flashtool.
Search for "Sony flashtool"
Read carefully and good luck

Hello,
The phone doesn't even get recognized by any software on the PC.
Anyway, the phone will be returning in waranty tomorrow morning, I'm crossing my fingers.
Such problem makes me really wonder if these phone are worth it.
Hi,
The phone went back in warranty in a Sony repair center in Alsace (FR).
They replaced the motherboard, not the phone is working perfectly.
I hope I won't have the problem again.
Hello everyone,
I have a Sony Xperia Z1 C6903 LTE, the screen got broken and it was glitching
Without touching anything on the screen, it would click and select randomly. Sometimes even make calls that i didn't issue which made it problematic for me
My father took the phone and replaced the screen at a store that I dont know anything about, but it was still glitching
Not as much as when it was broken but it is glitching and it is unbearable
I didn't use the phone for a while and now I want to fix it to give it to my sister
Went to Sony customer service and they said it would cost about $220, nearly the same price of the phone when I bought it
But he did mention that a format might fix it, I asked if he meant a factory restore but he said they would flash it for $40
I decided to flash it on my own but now the the phone starts up, Sony and Xperia logo then the colors appear
After that it says "NFC Firmware Update Wait while updating, Do not turn off your phone" then it restarts and loops again and again
The only way to stop the loop is by holding power and Vol up
I read other threads but nothing worked for me, please help :crying:
The issue has been solved by using the Sony Companion, doing a software restore got it back working normally
but the screen is still glitching, should i change it with a cheap screen for $53, or the original Sony screen for $212?
