Any developers be interested in porting this? (Iida UI) - Nexus 4 General

Just trying to bring this to people's attention, newtoroot recently ported the Iida UI, a super-unique and cool Japanese phone UI, to the HTC One X. It's been getting a lot of attention. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161728
It would be super cool to have this on the Nexus 4. The interface is wholly unlike anything else on the market. It most closely resembles Windows Phone, but even that comparison is fairly minimal. Even if it can't be made to work fully, it would be great to play with.
I hope this post doesn't come across as a noob being annoying asking for things, I just thought it would be worth spreading the word. Thanks!
(Also, I'd be interested in starting a bounty if anyone knows how to get that set up)

Does look damn cool, would love to see this in the future.

[Q] Switch to Captivate?

Hi all I just joined this site. I've had an iPhone 4 for about a month, and I've had a iPod Touch 1G, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS before that. The point is, I'm getting TIRED of iOS lol. There is no customization unless you jailbreak. Should I try to sell the iPhone 4 on eBay and get a Captivate or should I stay with the iPhone 4. Please, unbiased opinions only. Thanks guys
Both of them are good phones. Its a HUGE dose of personal preference.
That said, i much prefer my Captivate to the first gen iPhone i had or the 3GS my dad has.
Had i not gotten the Captivate, i probably would gotten a iPhone 4. To be honest, i still almost pulled the trigger on one.

I have never had an iPhone so I can't say that you would be better off with the Captivate. The Captivate is a great phone that has its issues, which right now most of the issues can be fixed if you are mildly smart with a computer. My wife who has no idea about that stuff or what phones can do loves her phone. I talked her out of the iPhone because I was curious about the Android platform.
The pros for me on Android is the open source and what all these smart devs can do. Right now I am running the Vibrant hybrid which is mostly vanilla w/some touchwiz UI mixed in. It is a great balance and with the exception of GPS which for me I don't use has been fast, clean and easy to use. I am also a fan of how easy the phone is to recover. You can do anything to the phone and be able to recover (the exception from what someone has mentioned is pulling the cable out while flashing the phone) which I have not tried so I cannot comment on that.
The phone is very fast and from what I have seen and my short time playing with the IP4 in the store is very comparable, with minor lag on TW 3.0 but like I said it is not getting to the point where you don't need to run that. Even if you don't change the ROM and keep TW it was good and I was happy with it. You may run different launchers to bypass that as well.
Just check it out in the store and do your own tests between the two. That is what I did to make my decision. Hope this helps a little bit.
Thanks for the replies guys. I am very familiar with jailbreak iPhones/ Unlocking them. Is rooting Android devices easy? And in a basic explanation, how would one put themes or mods on one. And also, all my music is on iTunes. Is there like an app that I sync music to Android. I really want to try out Android lol. It looks so much better with all of the customizations.

You wont need root to use a different launcher (change what the homescreens look and act like). Many homescreen replacements are just apps on the market. From there you can swap icons, docks, etc.
There is a one click root in the android dev. section if/when you need it.

had an experince with both Captivate and iphone 4
I am to say that iPhone 4 is still the same iOS and I got bored with it in a couple of days
Now I've been using Captivate for a month and Android still does impress me
I have a 64 GB Touch for my music and what apps aren't there for Android. The only edge IMHO that the iPhone has over the cappy is GAMES. There just aren't that many good ones for Android VS the Apple App Store. I hate having to carry both devices in my pocket.
I had an iphone 4 since day one and it is a great phone, but very limited due to the restraints Apple puts on it. My friends told me to check out the Android phones, luckily the Captivate came out before my 30 days with the iphone so I switched, after comparing both phones at the store for like 2 hours lol
I was very hesitant at first and I thought maybe I made the wrong choice and should go back to the iphone, but after a week I saw the light and I was so glad I got an Android phone lol. The Captivate is an amazing phone!! Customizable in so many ways and it comes with swype!! The Android OS has to improve still on somethings, but it has been around for much less time than iOS and it is catching up and leaving it behind very quickly. The only things that really annoy me at the moment are the lack of push notifications like on the blackberry and iphone for facebook and the email client loads pretty damn slow if it's not a gmail email.
I can't wait for Froyo to come out for this phone!!!

Honestly, I loved my iphone. If you want something new, captivate is going to be both strange and familiar, and strangely familiar. Yet if you like you iphone 4.. Flame suit on, stick with it until the dual cores come out, don't bother swapping to a similar gen phone.

WP7 on Captivate

Since I first knew that Captivates were hackable, I always wondered if there was any way to put WP7 on my phone. It isn't because I would have rather had a WP7, but it is simply because I want the option to. I find it hard to believe that none of you haven't imagine WP7 on your captivates. Recently trax26 made a theme of WP7 that looks simply amazing, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910918) but, his barely sufficient tranlation makes it even harder for a small time programmer like myself to install it. The screenshots look amazing, but there is no way I can do that.
My question is: Does anybody else know of a simpler WP7 theme to install? A CWM theme would be ideal, but some minor hacking would be okay with me.
And if not, I would just like to put that out there as a suggestion for anybody whose up to it. I'm sure there are tons of people (including myself) who would beta it as much as possible, just so as long the feel is right.
Thanks in advance, Richard.
Look at metro ui in the market. It is a decent wp7 launcher. Some bugs but overall much better then trying the theme.
This is my captivate. There are many like it buy this one is mine.

Thanks a bunch and just wan to let you know you have a typo in your signature
EDIT: Although that is a good emulator, take a look at the link that i posted. That's what im looking for, full blow WP7 with the right symbols and everything (more or less). But thanks anyways.
Yea, it would be nice to have WP7 running on Cappy. After watching HD2 running WP7 on YouTube makes me eager to have it. But idk how. Lol.

Yeah I know about my sig .
As for getting real wp7 it just wont happen. These themes and that II are probably the closest we will get. I figure the metro II is much easier than trying to do the process of the theme.

WP7? So you can deal with stuff like this? http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/237934.asp?from=blog_last3
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I'm not saying I want WP7 as my only operating system, because Android is far superior in almost everything, but I simply want it to be able to have the choice of having WP7. I would like to have the speed and hackability of Android, but have the simplicity of WP7. I have to say the tiles are probably the only thing that will keep WP7 going, because honestly, I think they are pretty cool. Metro is a decent simulator that gets the jist, of WP7 but it's actually too simple. The thing about WP7 is that it has cool simplicity by using colored and animated tiles.
And as for the quote "It will be a long time before WP7 comes to android" every rom has to start somewhere.
You'd need someone who could reverse engineer WP7 - then figure out how to use existing drivers or write new ones before WP7 could be installed on our Android phones.
There is no "Open Source" for Windows... ever.
Drivers would probably have to all be re-written or some type of hack so WP7 could work with existing drivers.
So... unless you know someone with a great amount of time - possibly can hack M$ and get the source code we probably won't be see this type of port soon.
well i use LG optimus 7 before i change to captivate just use it 1 month
then sell. What can i said... it actually very nice and really fast phone
and its wp7 is really pretty but it 2 simple and lack of app support for now.
cause its still new maybe another 1 or 2 years i will get it again.
Maybe i'm just not understanding, but im not asking for the windows sole operating system, im just asking for a themed windows 7 rom, or even better, a combination of the home screen on WP7 and the rest of it being android. Maybe thats too much to ask, but it doesnt seem like it.

Maybe I didn't read your source post fully, but isn't that theme built for galaxy s phones, and only require launcherpro?
Granted I only glanced the post, but it didn't look too complex. If you can flash a ROM, that theme shouldn't be a big deal.

Android Phone 7 Theme
Google is your friend!
With all those widgets I wouldn't expect the battery to last half a day.
I read the entire post, and you need launcherpro plus to resize the widgets, which I dont have, and have no money to buy. Also, it's not a theme that you can flash, you need to do some extracting and coding via terminal. It may not be possible to make a complete WP7 theme that's flashable with Clockwork recovery, but I've seen many a theme that looks completely original. I don't know much about ROM writing (if i did i would have the WP7 theme on my phone and this post would be gone), but it seems like with all the amazing devoted themers on XDA, someone besides the before mentioned person, could create a wonderful flashable theme that does not require any money/hacking.

Ok honestly, I don't want to try and screw with my phone, because I'm happy the way it is right now. I would really like to get a WP7 theme, but I think I'm going to wait until someone makes a SIMPLE theme, that you can flash and be done with HINT HINT HINT HINT.

LoL yea i agree.. we just want wat we cant have.. but if we'd be stuck with it we'd be trying to get rid of it
Ive had a captivate since july and i love the phone even with numerous software problems right out of the box. I recently picked up unlocked HTC Surround and its awesome. That one comes with snapdragon processor 1 gig, same one in the HTC Evo 4g, and 512 mb ram and using the WP7 Os it is very fast right out of the box. It totally lacks customization unlike android os and no where the amount of apps and games android has, but the ones it does have are way better versions then the android ones, for example facebook and craiglist. And the xbox live game THE HARVEST is amazing. I would encourage anyone to try one out, very well done OS compared to the previous windows mobile os. I dont think ill sell my captivate because i love having option to choose from either android or Windows Phone 7. I just hope it catches on so it will soon have as many apps and games as Android.
Windows Phone 7 is a polished OS, but it won't even come close to Android or iOS for a VERY long time. And like I said early, It's not like I want WP7 instead of Android, but It's the reason that i CAN'T have WP7 that makes me want it. If anyone has any WP7 friends, give them the idea!
Have you looked into "Launcher7" ? Search it on the market.
If you just want a home theme that looks like WP7 this seems to be the easiest one going.
I think asking someone to port the whole WP7 OS over to a Cappy is probably not going to happen though.

Do you think IOS5 will be an overhaul?

With Android getter bigger and better seemingly by the minute and WP7's fancy interface it seems like IOS is old news, WWDC starts June 6, do you think they will unveil IOS5 there? And what do you think will be the improvements? Minor or Major?
I think Apple has the hardware already and its only gonna get better but the OS is starting to kinda age a bit, it just dosnt seem as fresh as it once was.
Im gonna keep my eye on what Apple and MS have in store as one of those will be my next choice.
Yeah im sure apple has to have something awesome up their sleeve because android is killing them( sorta). Im excited to see what they well bring as well.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I bet ios 5 will have some pretty big changes, if not they'll just get left further behind. I'll find out soon at wwdc though.
It looks like there going to copy something from android.
I am really interested what they would copy then since all 3 OS systems are based already on each others succeses . Better to copy good then badly develope.
If it's going to be something entirely new its going to be aimed at the general public since Apples OS isnt really tweaker friendly, thats the category where Andoid is strong.
No i dont think so. Knowing apple, they don't mess up with their models or.system.too much

I hope they overhaul the interface and incorporate a few features from Android, such as a notification bar and widgets.
Also think nothing is to worry them there cult following is around tthis earth
mm android is not bad, im more like ios user lol
Here's my opinion. They have a fine line to walk. On the one hand, they can't (or won't) change too much, lest they risk alienating their "regular consumer" user base. There are things that previous posters mentioned, like better push notifications, some limitations that some Google apps have.... But they will have to something as Android is becoming very popular. You can tell Steve Jobs doesn't like it either because in one of their last earnings calls He lambasted Android and that's a cardinal rule of business, never mention the competition, especially by name. On the other they really should do something, I mean 3.5 inch screen in 2011? Really!?!!?

Is it just me...

I'm wondering if I'm the only person to be, well, disappointed with the Nexus 4. I have had Google-centric devices before, starting with the Nexus One and I enjoyed using them. I was looking forward to getting my N4 immensely but since it arrived it's just been nothing but ball-ache.
It never really feels as fast as its specs suggest it could be.
If I snap a picture (which is disappointing 99% of the time) I can't send it by clicking the share button and choosing Gmail - it just sits in my outbox, and has with every ROM I've used, including stock.
The device's battery is inconsistent.
It's slicker than an eel that's been soaked in KY, so unless it's in a case or bumper it slips and slides off surfaces and, as we all know, it isn't the most robust smartphone in the world.
I'm holding out hope that KLP will bring things together and get it all moving right, but so far I'm a misery guts...a misery guts who keeps eyeing up the HTC One.
Am I alone?
It is an upgrade for me because I had an htc one v. I honestly think all of the functions are usable (besides recording audio). I was very excited to know the nexus 4 came out, after using the nexus 7 for a couple of months. Although if you have owned a phone with features that worked more efficiently, then yes this device could totally be let down. The battery life could be better(even with custom kernels/roms) I figure i'm gonna sit with my nexus 4 through another generation of nexus before I upgrade.
Yes. And this thread is pointless.

I thought it might have been a bad one at first, but the wife's got one and she's had some (minor) issues too. There are aspects of the device that I love, but having had a Nexus 7 and gotten to really like Jelly Bean I was hoping for a lot more from the N4. There just seems to be a lack of veneer in certain areas, like jobs were just sort of finished rather than being polished.
The N4 is the best Nexus device in terms of hardware, sure, but I don't feel that Google has made as much of that hardware as it could have, though that could probably be attributed in some part to it being an enthusiasts device.

For me it's quite the opposite. It's easily the fastest phone Ive used yet (that includes most 2012 flagships but nothing like the Xperia Z or HTC One) and I don't see any reason I'd want it to be faster. I don't see any task in the near future that the S4 Pro won't be able to handle, and project butter just makes the experience unbeatable IMO.

Just my opinions on this. At the end of the day it's entirely down to personal preference, which nobody can really change. To the people who said that he is alone, you do realise that that's akin to saying 'green is the best colour and if you don't like it then you're an idiot' right?

Just to clarify, the device is quick, yeah, but it feels that the OS brings it down at times, if that makes any sense? Even though Android is hugely capable and mainstream now it feels at times like it's still a work in progress. Little things like a widget will randomly go tits up, or my keyboard will just stop working, its minor, but frustrating as hell at times.

development is dead.

everyday same roms, same interface, same features (except pa) the rest are all boring kangs. I hear people say that nexus phones have tons of developing but truth is that on galaxy or htc phones you would see some cool ports, while here nothing at all.

Who wants a port? They usually suck because so many things are broken. If manufacturers didn't make all their stuff proprietary then we would see more cool roms from other phones.

everyday same roms, same interface, same features (except pa) the rest are all boring kangs. I hear people say that nexus phones have tons of developing but truth is that on galaxy or htc phones you would see some cool ports, while here nothing at all.
whoever does not like this, feel free to flame. whoever feels the same, feel free to share your opinion. also, mods that love closing such threads because afraid of flame wars, feel free to close it as well. just wanted to share my opinion on this matter.

whats a port have to do with developing? thats a serious kang, lol. try out different kernels too. the thing with nexus devices is that they run pure android. thats why many buy the nexus 4. no hacking needed, it runs pure android from aosp. most dont want that sense, or touchwiz, or any other of that manufacture crap. the development here comes into play by making android better. killing bugs, adding/enabling more features, etc. nobody want a port on any nexus, they want the real thing.

Who wants a port? They usually suck because so many things are broken. If manufacturers didn't make all their stuff proprietary then we would see more cool roms from other phones.

the fact that many things are broken does not mean that nobody wants a port. then what is all this talk going on saying nexus devices always have more developing? we have many roms and many awesome devs, but honestly 90% of the roms are exactly the same. sense amd tw users at least have an alternative when they get bored with tw or sense, they go flash a ported cm10 based rom

well you gotta have developing knowledge to port something right? kernels are absolutely the best in here! I am talking about roms...yes nexus devices are pure android experience but having an alternative wouldn't hurt.

Well they all use the same base, so 98% of the ROM is bound to be the same no matter what.
That said, Android's at a point where you can't really add that much to it anymore that's going to blow your mind, it's not like earlier Android versions where there were gaping holes that needed to be filled. Most people here seem interested in ways they can pimp their UI and post screenshots, and that makes it even worse.
I am saddened by the number of kangs and mash up ROMs however that don't bring anything unique to the table, but as someone who doesn't develop ****, I'm not one to talk.
OP thanks for sharing your opinion, instead of saying thanks for the work in development being done in this Community you say "boring"....sounds like someone should take up Developing and then provide freely to the Community as it is being done now, but never the less, thread is going no where.
Again Thanks for the opinion, Thread Closed.
