Email , and Sony PC companion issue - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
So i just bought my first android phone after my last bb died on me, and overall im loving the droid OS
my phone is a sony xperia Z and im running jellybean 4.1.2
Now im having two major issues that are a big deal to me
First off, ive managed to sync my gmail and hotmail with no problems, intially i tried setting up the hotmail as a pop3, but that wasnt working well, so i set it up as an Exchange and its works beautifully. My issue is my work email, which is hosted by ipage.com, i tried setting up as a pop3, i even upgraded my package to an Exchange email, and i tried setting it up as an exchange, but i still dont recieve any messages. The same email address that is on my outlook (as pop3) works fine, but for some reason on the android i cant recieve any emails ( i can send emails from my phone just fine). Ive contacted ipage.com but they dont seem to know what the issue and keep telling me to contact the phone vendor. I havnt done that yet. This is a major issue as I use my phone for work alot.
Second issue im facing, is that the sony PC companion sucks balls, every time i install the prog, and conect the device, the program deostn register my phone and keeps giving me "reconnect ur phone, make sure ur sim and phone are not locked" msg. at home on my mac i used the android file transfer prog and that one works no problems.
Doesnt anyone have any advice on how i can fix either of these isues?

Try another USB port, for the 2nd issue.

Secure SMTP

Howdy,
I am having trouble using smpts with our servers here at work. It sometimes works and most of the time does not. When it does not work I get a generic message about not being able to download messages or the account info is not right. Obviously the account info is right as I can occasionally send. Sending and receiving are set up for secure access to our servers. When we watch the server logs sometimes what we see is that the phone connects and then does nothing. Other times we never even see a connection attempt. Of course now and then it will send the mail like nothing is wrong. Sometimes it seems that a soft-reset helps to send mail ONCE, and then it is hosed again. The soft-reset does not always work either. I did not try to use secure email when I had the stock ROM, has anyone done this?
Anyone using secure email on the Cingular 8125 (built in mail client) and having issues? I'm running the Molski beta 3.2 rom and typically have the phone overclocked to 240. I've tried dropping the overclock but that did not seem to help the issue.

Certificate
I had to install a certificate, provided by my company, to receive email.
We have a certificate on our server but the weird thing is that every now and then the phone will send the mail. When it works it works as expected and we see the log in and file transfer in the server logs. Otherwise it either connects and then just seems to drop the connection or does not even show a connect attempt.
How/where did you install your cert?
Cy
Sorry but I dont understand the problem.
I assume you are trying to use push technology with an exchange server 2003 sp2.
If so the certificate you need is the one installed as the security check on the server. In my case this is a self generated one using a domain name I own. Some people use a more secure one that can be purchased.
A good place to start with this problem is to go to the mobile settings on the exchange server and turn off the security, this will allow you to check this is a certificate issue, you need to check the obvious as well, firewalls etc..
I use secure IMAP and secure SMTP on summiter's last rom and it works fine most of the time. Sometimes it won't connect, but i think that is either a cingular issue or it also seems to happen if my push email (Exchange) is doing some random activity on my phone. It is definitley more reliable than trying to view my hotmail...
My phone prompts me about the certificate every once in awhile. I just click yes and move on. It prompts me after rebuilding the phone or randomly every couple of weeks, usually after a reboot.
what protocol are you using for receiving email on the phone? pop or imap?
try it on a 2.xx rom and see how it goes.
We do not use exchange here. This is not a push setup. I have the phone checking for mail every 5 minutes. We have a very customized Linux server running sendmail. As I mentioned earlier, the incoming pop3s is working great. But most of the time I get an error on the phone when trying to send using smtps. About 1 in 5-10 attempts will go right through. It is very strange that on our server we do not see much in the way of details. It has to be something about the phone/cingular service. When we check the functionality of our server config using a desktop client configured for secure send/receive it works every time.

"Why do we always seem to get these intermittent problems?"
weird. if mine is going to have trouble it just won't connect at all. once it starts downloading email, it will send as well. Try the new 3.3 rom and see if it works for you with that one. Mine is working great on there
Yes, I loaded the new 3.3 yesterday and it seems to have fixed the issue. Although now I am having trouble with Cingular's IPs not resolving so our server won't forward my emails. :/ But, that is another issue.
Thanks to everyone for trying to help me with this issue.

windows live services not working

i've been using itje's v7 rom for a long time now and everything was sweet and perfect until 3 days ago. Now, i cant send/receive in the email tab, nor can i sign in to windows live messenger. i tried to delete then run thru the live email setup again but still no luck. It says the service could temporarily be unavailble or i could not establish a data connnection. i definitely have data connection because the stocks, weather tab, and opera are working.
any ideas?

Could it be a problem with the rom if so you should probbably ask there - maybe try running connection setup again to see if that helps
I just got my new Xperia, and Windows live and windows update aren't working right now...
Was using it the other day on a different xperia and it was working fine.
It could be the Windows Live service?
i highly doubt its a rom problem. it has always been working. i msut have pressed smth that disable smth.. so lost right now
Well, im using a stock rom, but, when i can't sign into live messenger using data, I try using wifi. If it doesn't sign me in, i restart my phone and i can sign back into live messenger normally.
even after a restart, i still cant sign into msn or check my email, but everything else is working (opera/google maps etc..). I'm getting furious. I can confirm now that its not my software or hardware problem because I got a friend (from the same carrier) to insert his sim card into mine and it works! What the heck is wrong with my data plan? Why just windows live services???? Please help.
if you guys are on fido, they seem to have broken up the proxy on their side after upgrading the services.
does nobody have this problem anymore?
I'm still trying to get it working, and to no solution.
Fido told me they're "working on it".
I hope I get some kind of credit..

[Q] Microsoft Exchange sync problem

After about 2hours of using my phone on wifi the exchange sync (built in mail application) doesn't sync anymore (internet itself keeps working). If I then disable en enable wifi, it works again.
I connect to exchange via https (outlook anywhere). Same goes for calendar.
btw, my GMAIL keeps working with no problem. It's just exchange that stops syncing
have you tried restarting the phone?
might be a service that got stuck
yep, doesn't fix it.
I'm gonna test TouchDown to see if it shows the same behaviour
Are you accessing Exchange via "Email for Exchange" or "Corporate"?
what do you mean?
I've made an account on my phone that connects to the 'webmail' of the exchange. Official name is Outlook Anywhere.
noob with similar issue
I'm a relative newbie to this forum so unsure of posting protocol, apologies in advance.
But whatever. I have the att version of the galaxy--the captivate--and have had a hard time getting exchange to work reliably. I've several times deleted and re-created my exchange account, and it will sync initially, and sometimes once or twice thereafter. But then, it ceases working competely, simply saying it has a "connection error".
This happens whether I'm on my company's wi-fi, home wi-fi, or just over the air 3G. the only fix is to recreate the account, and that's a pain.
I had an old winmo HTC fuze for a couple years, and it worked fine with this exchange server--I don't think I ever had to recreate the account, and it was thoroughly reliable. I also borrowed an old G1 for a couple weeks, used Roadsync, and it worked fine too.
I read in another forum that advanced task killer was the culprit, so I deinstalled it. No change. I also read that turning the synchronization on & off from the power widget was worth trying. Also no change.
Any other ideas? I too will try a 3rd party client before returning the phone. I mostly like the phone otherwise, though the GPS problem is annoying.
Appreciate any help.
Tried it with Touchdown: same issue. It tells me: No available network. However website continue to work...
When I click some links/visit some sites, it starts working again...

it sounds like the Wireless or 3G goes into sleep mode when you are not using it.
I have a similar problem, my calendar is able to sync but contacts unable to sync with exchange server.

Exchange read-unread issue on stock ICS

Hi all,
New here and upgraded from a Meizu MX (dual core) to the Note. However, I'm still using Jack Wong's phone rather than the Sammy.
Why? Because I'm having problems with corporate email sync. (exchange server 2003)
Emails I read on the Note keep showing up as unread on my PC and exchange web access.
However, when I mark the read emails as unread on the Note again and then mark them as read, their status WILL change on my PC.
The Meizu (still on GB) does not have any of these issues and syncs perfectly ok.
I've had a chat with the Samsung helpdesk, which did not bring any relief. In short, their customer service agent kept telling me that the problem was in the exchange server and not in the note. No matter what I told him. In the end they just hung up...
This very issue really kees me from using the note the way I want it. Did anyone have this issue before?
What kind of solution did you find?
Cheers, J.
I have the same problem.
Didn't have the problem with GB.
Have read this same question/problem question on a few forums with no answers or no/few responses.
Just tried your read/unread 'trick'...didn't work on mine.
Still show over 500 unread emails & I have read them all.
Moxier mail does the trick, but for all kind of reasons, I don't like it.
THis is pretty annoying: According to Samsung, the problem originates from mail-server settings.
But with the very same phone and another mail app (Moxier) it does work.
C'mon Samsung!
SOLVED
Today I could not resist anymore and installed the latest XXLRQ. (with PC Odin.) Previously I was on Hong Kong 4.04.
Guess what: Even without factory reset it's working correctly immediately.
So after all this was a bug (although Samsung never confessed it was) and they actively solved it.
Now I'm a really happy note user.
Cheers,
JP

Email Syncing WIFI

Hi has anybody else got this problem, my HTC one only syncs email when Im connected via WIFI, when out on road i do not receive emails but soon as i get back to office or home I receive all of them, this never happened with my One XL have i set something wrong?
same problem
I dont use wifi a lot so I've not replicated your issue yet (at least the wifi part)
I do, however, know that my phone does NOT automatically "push" the new e-mails when on data. The e-mail software waits for me to turn it on which in turn 'forces' an update.
Any help on this matter would be great.
Thanks.
EDIT:
I have just tried turning on wifi, and e-mail still does not push. When I open the app, it then syncs.
