I am having the oddest issue that appears to only be affecting my work e-mail account set us as "Corporate Sync" using our Exchange server. For whatever reason, I cannot send or even forward e-mails that have attachments in them. Whenever I send it, it goes straight to the outbox and no matter how much I refresh it doesn't go through and just stays stuck in my outbox and keeps telling me it failed to send it.
I already removed and added the account several times and played around with different options. I even went as far as getting the "Enhanced Email" app and it does the same thing. No other account (like my Yahoo mail accounts or Gmail) are affected by this and it was working perfectly fine prior to switching from my ThunderBolt on September 8th.
Any help would greatly be appreciated, I need this resolved ASAP as this is affecting my work and neither Verizon nor Motorola know how to fix this.
If your download attachments over wifi is not selected then it is a setting on your company Exchange server. Tell them to set the Active Sync Policy to ignore client certificates under Active Sync Policy > Authentication.

Does it make sense that it would work on my ThunderBolt though?
Quite frankly, messaging is all fu8k3d up on the bionic right now. I wouldn't put it past that it is just ****y code.

In Exchange Management Console, go to Server Configuration > Client Access > Exchange ActiveSync tab.
Double click Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync Properties. Go to Authentication tab, and make sure Basic authentication is checked (mine already was) and check "Ignore client certificates" (default is set to Accept).

Wifi doesn't fix it but I just checked one app called Touchdown for Android 2.x and it works fine. Apparently it's a pure full supported Exchange app. I really don't like it however and would like to avoid using it. If anyone with similar issues can figure it out (even if you're on another device) it would be great.
I have read a few things about the certificate but wouldn't that affect all communication to the Exchange server and not just e-mails with attachments? If not, then why is Touchdown working fine?
When I look at my Salsa's Hotmail inbox, I regularly notice emails there which are not reaching my inbox on PCs, tablet or laptop. The Salsa seems to be deleting the emails from the server despite that option being unticked in the Salsa's Hotmail settings.
My settings on the Salsa are:
POP
pop.live.com
SSL
995
Login required: yes (I've tried yes & no)
smtp.live.com
TLS
587
Ask before deleting: On (I've tried On & Off, though I know this relates to manually deleting emails)
Refresh on open: No (Again, tried yes & no)
Auto download message: Off (tried both)
Delete mail on server: Off
I've tried deleting the account on the phone and setting it up again, but with no success in sorting the problem. Oddly, it seems that the same emails senders disappear, ebay for example. Since I got the phone, no ebay emails have made it to any of my computers. I can't promise to be 100% accurate that it's a set list of senders always being deleted but I'm certain about ebay and fairly sure about the rest.
Note also that the emails are not available in Hotmails on a web browser, even if I try their recovery setting.
Any helpful suggestions (other than "Stop accessing Hotmail through your Salsa"! )?

Sorry, should have said I'm still using your Big Bear X v11.
And I'm just using the standard "Mail" app for Hotmail & another account, and the GMail app for GMail. It's only Hotmail I'm having trouble with.
I should also add that sometimes the emails even disappear from the phone after being there moments before! What alerted me to the issue was seeing a competition in an email and deciding to enter via PC. So I went into Outlook but the email wasn't in Hotmail there. I went straight back to the phone and the email was now missing. It's as though there is some screwed up sync happening behind closed doors but I definitely have "Sync deleted items from server" disabled as well, so even that doesn't make sense.
If you have no suggestions for now, I'll delete the account from my phone again for a few days and see if the problem goes away - I'll know because ebay emails should start appearing on my other devices every day or so.
I'll wait till you reply again before doing that just in case you have any other suggestions.
Thanks.

OK, I'm going to copy your settings and see if that makes any difference.
Previously, I had as above but:
size 50kb (the default setting)
Auto download off (but only after trying on)
I don't see why the message size would affect the server unless for some reason it would delete from the server if the message was above the 50kb I had set on the phone, but surely not?
I'll let you know how that goes.
This morning's results:
Emails received on all devices - 6 different senders
Emails only received on Salsa - 4 different senders
So almost half my Hotmail emails aren't reaching my other devices
Next step, I guess, is to remove the Hotmail account from the phone and see if emails from the missing senders start appearing again...

this is odd, i don't usually use Hotmail via the phone anyway, i have it there to check my daughters Facebook etc as the notifications come through there, so its not really bothered me to much on what mails come through, but since you have mentioned this i have noticed only a small amount have come through as i went onto Hotmail via the website and found loads more lol, so i do wonder if its Hotmail itself that restricts it and not the email app.

That's really odd! At least it looks like it's not just me then, even if that's not a solution. I just wanted access to my Hotmail when I'm away from home to keep tabs on things or for online offers I may want to take advantage of, that sort of thing. I wouldn't mind so much if it was the other way round, i.e. that the phone was failing to receive some emails and they were all on the PCs but it's the PC I'm going to archiving them on and I don't want to be needing to forward emails and all the hassle and confusion that causes (as in the sender then being me, and the time stamp being wrong etc.) Even if there's the equivalent of a PST file that can be copied from an Android device to a PC with Outlook (is there?), it's still far from ideal.
I'm still totally mystified why the phone is getting all my Hotmails whilst my PCs, laptop and Nexus 7 (unrooted btw) and the Hotmail site itself are missing them! I can't speak for the N7, as I got that more recently than the phone, but the PCs and laptop all used to get everything (as far as I can be sure) before I got the Salsa - they all were in sync with the Hotmail website's emails.
The only possibility I can currently see is that somehow the Salsa is (selectively) deleting emails from the server, but even then that would require it always to be the first to download them. I suppose that's possible because whilst I usually have one PC on 24/7 I only run Outlook as and when I want to check emails. Hmmm, there's an idea! If I leave Outlook running constantly for a few days (seeing as I get far fewer Hotmails at the weekend) I wonder if it will download from the affected senders before the phone allegedly deletes them? Again, not a solution but possibly a way of confirming whether it really is the phone deleting them.
This is my guess at this problem
1. Have seen what POP does to your account ?, it downloads an email from the server and delete it on the server. That's the reason you cant see them on other devices N7 or your Outlook enabled computer.
2. With IMAP settings, similar to our Gmail app, you can access all you emails from the server even if you delete them from it. Regardless.
A link- http://www1.umn.edu/adcs/guides/email/imapvspop.html
Still not working!
8 emails reached all devices but a further 7 only reached the Salsa. Outlook remained running the entire time.
Times and whether they reached the other devices:
02:28 No
03:24 No
05:02
06:04
06:06
06:11
07:19
07:42
09:04
10:00 No
10:15 No
11:15
12:34 No
12:35 No
12:49 No
Interesting that most (not quite all) "lost" emails were in an uninterrupted time period. Whether that's relevant I don't know after only one day. I'll make a similar list on Monday (rarely get anything on a Sunday).

I see a problem with IMAP settings (unless I'm misinterpreting them) in that deleting an email on the phone would delete it on the server, leaving it unavailable to other devices. I need to be able to access the emails at different times on different devices and be able to delete some emails from the phone without losing them from Outlook.
An example: An email arrives from Paypal to say a payment has gone through. I see that on my phone but don't need to keep it on the phone, so I delete it. But, I do want to save it in a folder in Outlook when I have the chance to get to my PC. If I start Outlook, isn't that email going to be unavailable to download and therefore save?
Incidentally, I tried to follow instructions on setting up a Hotmail address with IMAP (using a secondary account I have) but I get failed authentication messages. Looks like somebody may have had the same issue in the final comments here.
Hotmail, doesn't offer IMAP protocol on Android !!, they use something called an Exchange ActiveSync
Moreover, they have released their version of an application which you can download on the Playstore, I suggest have a test of the application and see if the emails are appearing there.

Hello,
You just described POP which you are currently using in your Salsa that is, "deleting an email on the phone would delete it on the server, leaving it unavailable to other devices.". That is what POP does. It deletes the email from the server if you delete it from the phone.
No once you delete the Ebay email from your phone it will not be available on the desktop or your N7, thats POP for you.
IMAP on the other hand deletes it from the phone and goes into, IMAP trash in our Gmail account on desktop. So you can view them on any devices running normal/IMAP Gmail. An image for your reference has been attached.
Sorry for being hasty, but XDA doesnt allow post within 2 minutes of each other.
I'll give the app a shot. You wouldn't think it would be so difficult just to access some emails. It's not even that likely I'd want to reply to emails from the phone very often, if at all, I just want to be able to read them when I'm not at the PC and know they'll still be on the PC when I go there.

Ok, so the relevant thing is delete versus permanently delete!
I think the confusion I'm feeling is that my non-hotmail accounts in Outlook are all using POP but with the option to leave emails on the server.
Ya sure will do, this problem was precisely the reason the university I went to, shifted from Hotmail/Outlook to Gmail/Outlook. many of the lecturers didn't know the next day where the older mails went !!
I just created a draft mail on my Salsa running on the Hotmail account and the same draft mail would not appear on my desktop Hotmail and vice-verse
Attached image is my University account where IMAP is enabled on my Salsa through the normal Mail app, not the Gmail one.
OK, Here [2nd attached] is my Thunderbird settings for IMAP, it clearly shows what do you want to do with the deleted items :highfive::highfive:
I've now installed the hotmail app and I'll allow both it and the standard email app to handle Hotmail for a couple of days or so, just to make sure they are in sync with each other. If they are, I'll delete Hotmail from the email app and see if I then retain all emails in Outlook or if the problem continues.
I actually got several Hotmails today so I was able to catalogue the success (or otherwise of the Hotmail app when still accessing Hotmail through the default email app too). Times of all Hotmails received, and whether Outlook or my Nexus & also received them:
("x" means in Hotmail app. "no" means not in Outlook, Hotmail.com or Nexus 7)
00:27 no
00:40 no
02:35 x
02:40 x
05:17 no
06:04 x
07:02 no
08:04 x
08:20 no
09:17 no
09:35 x
10:07 x
10:19 x
10:33 x
11:44 x
13:43 x
So in summary, both the email app and Hotmail app receive all the Hotmails whilst the same emails are missing from both Outlook and the N7. Not really the result I would have hoped for as it would appear that removing Hotmail from the email app and just using the Hotmail app would still end up with me losing emails in Outlook & N7. (I wanted to see an "x" next to all times above).
The next step (after forwarding any "Salsa-only" Hotmails of importance to my other devices*) will be to delete Hotmail from the email app and see how that affects things. It may be that I still have the same issue if the Hotmail app still gets emails which are missing elsewhere and I have to re-think how to get Hotmail on my Salsa without losing emails on other devices.
*Sending from Hotmail on the Salsa to the same Hotmail address, it still doesn't reach any device including
the Salsa (though I know sometimes it can take a while doing that so maybe it will get there eventually). Sending to a non-Hotmail address works as soon as I check Outlook.
I'll update after I've received enough emails tomorrow to see what's happening.
Still no positive progress. After deleting Hotmail from the email app and continuing with the Hotmail app on the Salsa, here are the results up to lunchtime today:
10/12:
(Deleted Hotmail from Salsa's email app before any emails rec'd today)
("x" means in Hotmail app. "no" means not in Outlook, N7 or Hotmail.com)
02:52 x
02:56 x
08:53 x
09:04 x
10:08 x
10:14 x
10:42 x no
10:43 x
10:48 x no
11:23 x
12:08 x
So, as you can see, the Salsa still seems able to prevent my other devices receiving some emails and permanently deleting them from the server - remember, they are not even recoverable from the Hotmail deleted items using their recovery tool.

i really don't know what to to say then....this is probably why i don't use Hotmail much anymore, gmail is taking over lol
Searched all through the One forum without success so I am thinking I have a bad HTC One.
I am trying to Sync MS Outlook contacts to the One.
Downloaded the HTC Sync manager and followed the instructions, no go.
Spent over 1 hour with HTC support this morning and result is that I should turn on "usb debugging" and re- install HTC Sync Manager.
Managed to turn on "USB Debugging" but still no sync of contacts.
This cannot be a known issue as there are no posts on this forum about this so has anyone out there got any suggestions?
My old HTC Touch HD2 is now too far gone so I do need to resolve this even if it means "backing" the HTC One and choosing another phone.
Hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Regards to all.
I think you are trying to hard
for me, I added my email address using the Exchange active sync option and the contacts all dropped in.......
Is your screen locked when trying to sync?
Do other things sync?
Are you saving your contacts locally in outlook? or are they synced via and online account?
Which version of office are you using?
I'm installing office now to see if I can sync contacts.
---------- Post added at 11:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:17 AM ----------
I was just able to successfully sync a contact from outlook to the htc one. I had trouble getting the sync manager to recognize my device but after that it was a breeze. I don't mind helping you. Does the sync manager recognize your device?

I do not know what is going wrong with my phone.
I am using Win7 OS with Office 2010, bog standard single user setup, Outlook is default for everything.
I got a follow up from very helpful HTC support.
Basically uninstalled evrything, deleted all HTC from Hard Drive, Hard Reset to phone and re-install everything with Kaspersky turned off.
Same result, HTC Sync loads and sets up OK, Phone connects OK, USB Debugging is ON, Sync Outlook Contacts and it zooms from 1% to 100% in seconds and nothing appears on phone.
Everything goes like clockwork except no transfer of sync for Contacts, Calendar or Bookmarks.
Maybe I am looking in the wrong place?
I go to "People" and look for my contacts there, is that correct?
Should I be configuring anything else?
Thanks for your attention, it is really appreciated.
Best Regards

To find my contact I went to The dialer swiped right to "contacts" and the contact was listed there. Be sure to check in the upper left corner that the all the sources in the phone book are checked.
In the HTC sync manager Try turning off sync for everything accept for "People". Then click settings and change the "Sync all contacts from" option to outlook. Then sync. Then afterwards try searching for the contact and let me know what happens.

Well that did the trick!
When you suggested that I only sync "People" I was about to reply and say I cannot select what to sync when I noticed that some Goon had not ticked any of the boxes..... errr.. hmmm.. well lets not dwell on this.
In my (weak) defence I thought the boxes were "greyed out" and never even tried to tick them. Cannot think of anything else to explain this other than being a complete nit-wit.
Ticked the box and everything worked as you knew it would.
Thanks for your help, very much appreciated, I will now go a sit in a dark cupboard for a few days.
Regards.

in response to the comment by "technoweary" apologizing that he/she missed selecting some options, I do not think it was obvious or intuitive at all how this works. I just followed the directions and got it to work (thanks to Kelbizzle(!)). In the "more" settings view, with 'people' 'calendar' 'bookmark' sections, there is a sync button at the bottom (two semicircular arrows chasing each other around), and you can click on that all day long and think it's doing something useful--what usability genius left it there, and also thought it better to force the user to click into the next screen ('people') and force the user to activate the sync there? But it isn't until you follow the directions that Kelbizzle provided, that it actually works. This is a very idiosyncratic issue with the HTC interface, and I, too, greatly appreciate the tip provided here.
I've spent several hours tonight trying to figure out how to sync both music and outlook to my phone, and you practically need a PhD and a lot of random clicks to get it to work. I actually had to install HTC sync manager from the HTC One before it would do any sync'ing at all.
Hi, I have the T-Mobile Samsung S6 and I synced my Facebook Contacts. I realized the stock Contacts App displays all my contacts, so I selected Customized List under Contacts to Display and unchecked Facebook ALL Contacts. However, even after doing this my Facebook contacts STILL show in the list. Has anyone been successful in keeping Facebook Sync on but NOT having them display under Contacts?

I'm betting you have sync contacts checked within the actual facebook app. Go to the facebook app...then go to app settings....scroll all the way to the bottom.....is sync contacts on?

Yes that is correct. I have it set on "Sync with Existing Contacts". Problem is, instead of syncing with existing contacts, it syncs all of my Facebook contacts and shows it in the Contact phone book, regardless if they were an existing contact or not.

Yes that is correct. I have it set on "Sync with Existing Contacts". Problem is, instead of syncing with existing contacts, it syncs all of my Facebook contacts and shows it in the Contact phone book, regardless if they were an existing contact or not.

You might want to try out Haxsync from the Playstore. Reviews are good...might be worth the $1.00.
EDIT: I just checked out the app in the playstore....I might be wrong. It hasnt been updated since 2013 lol

lol ok well seems like there isn't a quick solution to this.. .probably something with Samsung or Facebook's side. Thanks for the research though! I recall using Haxsync many years ago as well. It kinda solved some issues with syncing, though not perfect. I doubt any phone really needs it now lol, given no update since 2013
