I have leaked jb rom lsa I want to flash paranoid android rom. In CWM recovery if I choose clean before flashing new ROM I wont need to do wipe. If it's needed can you give me some tips what steps I should do to always flash a ROM successfully.

I always do a full wipe prior to flashing a new rom to make sure there are absolutely no old configs left.
1: backup
2: factory reset/wipe
3: in advanced -> clear dalvik cache.
3: flash rom and gapps
4: reboot. /done

Good but philz settings does more than wipe. It formats the main 4 partitions for even cleaner install.

Hi I am a new comers
I just wanna to ask
Do I need to make a full wipe when flashing cm10 official nightly5 from nightly4
Hope someone can answer me
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda premium
If you wish to keep installed apps, just delete cache and dalvik cache (not factory reset) and install nightly 5
But if you do full wipe (including factory reset) and install nightly 5, there is a bit improved performance..
Press THANKS button if helped..
That would mean I only get improvements
If i make a full wipe. Or?

Not exactly. Myabe yes, maybe no. That's the reason we flash the same rom very times.
Wipe just cache, and dalvik cache, if you don't wanna miss your data. You are in a older nightly, there is no big problem.
But, i recomend to do full wipe. Allways.
Hope i've helped.
Since this is the same ROM am I required to wipe/partition or would I be successful by only wiping the dalvik cache and flashing it right over it?

Hi, I know this is probably a real noobie question, but I have only just recently flashed CM9 and used it for a few days. Now I have a few apps that I have been using a lot, but I would like to move to nightlys. Would I have to use VRWipe or something similar to wipe out the current build I have, or can I flash Nightlies right over my current build without wiping anything? What is the best way to go rom CM9, to CM9 Nightly?
Wipe the caches and system in cwm an flash overtop, then flash gapps

So that means I lose all my apps and start from scratch? Sorry, never did this before on the touchpad.

OOh, ok. Just one last question then, Can I flash the lastest version of nightly (cm-9-20121028), or do i have to flash an older version, then updat?
Newest is fine

backup
You should however get into the habit of using a backup software. Titanium backup works real well.
Well I see every developer in his roms thread advises that it is preferable to flash his custom rom on stock rom to avoid bootloops due to different kernels cos that causes bootloop in most cases
And this guide includes format system so your boot. Img will be formatted and would avoid bootloop
So here is a procedure to install roms like that without flashing stock rom via odin
Disclaimer: Dont blame me if u get bootloop if u don't follow the steps correctly and if u follow correctly and get a bootloop flash stock via odin which u won't get most probably
(Confirmed working I flashed simplicity v5 on v4 and see if it works for u)

Nice
But

What's the difference in it?
It's the same method we all use to flash ROMs

It don't know tooooooooo
ROFL xD
But I think u won't get bootloop
Read below

I guess the difference is that we clear data and cache via stock
xD

And format system too
So we can flash roms having different kernels cos that causes bootloop in most cases
And I did get a bootloop while flashing v5 on v4 using this
So I think you all can try using the same procedure and flash custom roms

Instant wipe data is not needed. Only once in cwm wipe data is needed. Wipe data wipes the cache too. So no need of instant wipe data/cache and format data/cache

formating data cash and system is needed if u have a custom rom with a different kernel ... many roms have extra stuff like tweaked status bar (not just modded) ... so when u flash a rom normally they may chash (if stock is not flashed...) so the every step in the procedure ive given is important and needs to be followed in the exact order..
and op
i aked u to just give the purpose and link to my thread if u wanted to share and not copy paste the whole thing
pleez edit it out
thank u

Hi all, i have a very booring bug, when i install this rom, and i don't flash other kernel everything is fine.
But when i install a different kernel i cant go to system settings-> security cause i get FC of app.
Why this?
EDIT2: and if i flash thse gapps (gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip) i get FC of the keyboard and i can't use status bar settings.
Did you wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the kernel ?

Do you mount system before flashing?
No but it doesn't matter right?
Because the flashing process do it automatically, otherwise the ROM shouldn't work.
Try fixing permissions in recovery or ROM manager app
