My 5ghz wifi network is not showing up on my Xperia Z.
What may be the problem?
I can see the 2.4 fine but the 5GHZ is completely missing...
Is there something wrong with the phone?
Got a SIM card in the phone? Sometimes 5Ghz and some channels don't show up without a SIM installed.

Interesting.
I do not have an LTE sim for it yet, I bought it from the Sony Store directly.
I will have to try it out. Does a 3g sim work as well? Or do I need an LTE sim to have access to the 5GHZ wifi bands?
I had the same problem. Repeated scans didn't reveal it (or another router from a neighbour) but after a reboot and rescan it showed.
I can also say that my Nexus 4 connected only at 72Mbit but the XZ connects at 150. That's nice and it seems to hold the signal well even in a few near dead areas of the house.
I can't remember if there was a SIM in the first time around as I had been initially using it out of the box without one, but I'm pretty sure it did. In any case, it does have a SIM now (Three UK, so only 3G for now - albeit DC-HSPA giving speeds of 15-20 megabits).
The type of SIM and whether you have access to LTE won't affect Wi-Fi in any way. That would be purely coincidental!
Even with repeated scans I do not see the 5ghz band. This is strange. Is my device defective?
I am going to buy a sim card now.
Going to hope for the best.

For me the same (Apple router).
FritzBox 7270 5 GHz OKAY
Hi !
My Z can detect % work on the 5GHz band using a FritzBox 7270.
It then conncts with 150 MBit...
Greetings,
Ender
Now it's working, you need a simcard inside to detect the 5GHZ.
My C6603 with sim card installed doesn't show 5GHz networks.
Try different channel on the router
irrelevant, WiFi Analyzer doesn't even want to swap to 5GHz scanning mode.
What 5Ghz protocol are you using on the router? are yu still only using beta protocols? Have you updated your router software?
I'm connected to my home router with 5Ghz and it works like a charm.

I think I traced the problem... I can notice channel 14 avaiable on 2.4GHz I suppose I got stuck in Japan Wifi domain...
Any ideas how to enable that 5GHz module?

On what? If your router is 5GHz and broadcasting you should see it displayed.
Same here on Linksys dual band 5GHz, after some initial issues, my phone had problems trying to connect to them, but once I rebooted the router the phone has been fine since. Phone flys on speedtest 66718kbps, goes around the clock
I did note that it was not easy to get the WIFI to work first off (showed authentication problem), but once I had sucessfully connected to any WIFI network and deleted my previous attempts when I went back in to setup the access point all was fine.
even after factory reset no 5GHz
I have tried tweaking the database settings to Japan. Added wifi frequency band and set value to 1. I believe the problem is with the country wifi 5ghz standards and Sony somehow detects the Country. The phone frequency worked in Canada and Hong Kong. But when I'm in China with or without Sim card inserted the 5ghz cannot pick up or see.
I have the note 2 as well s3. Note 2 needs no tweaking, s3 needs tweaking and can pick up 5ghz but the xperia z shows nothing with or without tweaking.
yeah, that's funny cause I'm in EU with local simcard and the phone has 5GHz disabled

All countries have different regs on 2.4GHz & 5GHz bands, some countries do not even allow it.
In May 2012 Japans authorisation to use 5GHz bands for wifi expired Channels (34,38,42 & 46). You should be able to use 5GHz channels 36,40,44 and 48 in Japan at 20/40MHz
In China only 5GHz Channels 149,153,157,161 & 165, above what my phone shows as options only goes to channel 64.
Your location is determined, the first SIM card you put into the phone, which is why some people report not seeing 5GHz until inserting the SIM, the same would happen in countries that use the high bands (Channel 14) of 2.4GHz until the SIM was inserted these bands would not be discoverable. Then each time you insert a sim the carrier send info to the phone of your timezone etc.

Where did you purchase your phone from, and where in the EU are you? Because 5Ghz WIFI channels supported by the phone are available across most of Europe in you have 36,40,44 & 48

Hi
I am in Kolkata India and recently switched from a 2G to a 3G plan with Vodafone Kolkata. Ever since then, my problem is that I am unable to connect to 3G using WCDMA. Neither voice nor data works. If I revert to GSM only, then voice and 2G works fine. Wifi has been fine and my saviour at home.
Phone details: Sony Xperia SP C5302 running Android 4.3 build 12.1.A.1.205.
I have confirmed with network service that it is not a SIM card issue, by carrying out the foll. tests already
1- Signal strength in the area of use : At the time when I am unable to connect to 3G, my colleague sitting in the next desk and using a Motorola phone is consistently able to connect to the same 3G network from his phone. So the network strength must be fine.
2- SIM damaged or dirty - I have obtained a new SIM card as replacement, after this problem started, from my service provider yesterday. But the problem is not resolved.
3- Manual network search and connection - I have tried this many times, using WCDMA only or WCDMA(Preferred) options. In either case, only on rare occasions, the phone was able to connect to a network. However, 3G data connection (H+ icon) did not show and then the phone disconnects from network. On most occasions, when I manually attempt to connect to the 3G network, I get the message "Could not register to the selected network. Make sure SIM is inserted."
3- Trying different SIM/Handset - I have tried out both options of switching SIM and handset.
- My SIM on Motorola handset - connects to H+
- Another SIM on my Sony - momentarily connects, then disconnects and then does not connect to network.
Please let me know if anyone has faced similar issues and found any resolution. Thank you in advance.

I think that there's an option to use 2G instead of 3G in the settings menu, have you checked to see if that is enabled?

That is the WCDMA option I've mentioned about, there was no other setting for this.
Anyways, it turned out to be a hardware problem. Got the "mother-board" replaced for free as it was under warranty & now working fine!

Hello everyone..
my nexus 6 suddenly cannot see 2.4ghz wifi bands. Only 5ghz bands are showing in the wifi page. So far I tried:
1) clean install of pure nexus rom.
2) tried stock, elementalX, and franco kernel.
3) flashed the radio.zip provided in the forum.
4) tried Two different modems.
I did not try another ROM, should I?
Furthermore, other phones and laptops are able to see the 2.4ghz wifi band and are currently connected to it.
Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.
Cheers
Radios / modems only handle cellular, not wifi. WiFi is controlled by kernel modules, so something is blocking of disabling those, especially with the various ones you have tried. Logcat, dmseg, and / or last kmsg is what you need to troubleshoot.

I thought the local SIM card set the wifi region code. Have you tried a network settings reset (settings > wireless and networks > more > network settings reset)?

yes I did... It did not fix it?
it's really weird that there is no app or option to specify wifi region. I would really like to go back to pure Nexus since lineage OS is really slow compared to pure Nexus.

Pure Nexus is based on stock. What you're describing has been discussed in the google help forums. That's where I understood that the SIM card defines the Wi-Fi region. People have reported shutting down, pulling the SIM card, rebooting then repeating after replacing the SIM card *sometimes* helps.

just remove the sim card and you will see the hidden wifi bands. This is what I did:
removed sim card
clean flash rom
boot and see available Wifi
you will see that 2.4 ghz wifi is now showing
connect
now add the sim card.
I am not sure if you need to reflash your rom... Try to just remove the Sim card, restart and connect to the Wifi without Sim card.
my wifi was still not showing even though other 2.4ghz Wifi were showing. Changed the wifi channel from 13 to 2. Now the wifi is showing...

Channel 13 isn't used in the US. So if the Wi-Fi region (set by SIM card) is not right, channel 13 won't show. This seems to be a major annoyance outside of the US based on the number of complaints on the google forums. Removing the SIM card, connecting to the Wi-Fi and then reinstalling the SIM card has reportedly worked for some.
Hi, I finally received my S10.
After setting it up I noticed that the Wi-Fi is much weaker than on my previous phone, S5 which I had previously. Where the S5 was still clinging on 5GHz band and had pretty good 2.4GHz coverage S10 can't even manage to detect the 2.4GHz.
No issues connecting to the router, and the speeds are better on the S10, but not the network discovery. Is there something I can do? Did I get a faulty device?
Using the unlocked European version.
I think its some kind of a issue with One Ui. It happens on every samsung phone running One Ui. U can test it by going to wifi settings in any one ui phone and having some other phone side by side. You will see that the other phone simply shows more Wifi Connections.
Hello everyone,
I bought two Realme X50 5g from Amazon uk and I was really excited when the phone arrived, from what I read everywhere was a lot of value for the money. However just after a few hours of use I was really disappointed to see the behaviour I am having in both phones.
I can connect to the wifi 5g band without issues and I get internet, the problem is that after a while (randomly can't tell 1 hour or 10 hours depends) when I check the phone it says "no internet" and I can't access anything, I need to disconnect and connect again and the internet comes straight away.
This issue is a little bit annoying because it means being disconnected for a while until I realise about it.
I am in the UK and I have Virgin Media and was using their SuperHub 3 which has worked really well with any device until now. I tried to change the config from dual band and add 2g to the 2g ssid and 5g to the 5g ssid so they were separated so it doesn't use dual band automatically and is the same. I was suspicious the problem could be the VM router so I bought a new router TP-Link Archer A7 AC1750 which I believe is a middle range router which supports dual-band however doesn't have all the high tech technologies like mu-mimo and beamforming. Anyway I got the router setup everything and have been using the Tp Link instead an the exact same thing happens.
I am with EE as carrier and I don't have yet a 5G plan, however as soon I turned on the phone with my sim EE sent me a test saying that they have enabled VOLTE since I am on a device that supports it. I may be wrong but I am also getting the impression the issue tends to happen more frequently if I have received or done any calls, but I have no hopes on getting support from EE.
I have contacted Amazon support which was hopeless and I have sent an email to Realme support but I haven't heard from them yet.
I am starting to consider to return the phones and get a refund but if I need to get to that will be a shame because the phones does looks nice and I have been enjoying it, I like the UI and the performance is quite good.
With all said I was wondering if anyone is aware of any issues with the Realme X50 5G and the 765G SOC wifi?
Thanks in advance
Have a Pixel 7 with Stock ROM. I have massive connection problems. There is a Telekom SIM inside and an O2 E-SIM, it constantly happens that my phone has no network connection, no matter what network, that the Internet offline, etc.
Especially when switching WLAN to the 5G network.
Does anyone know these problems and have maybe a solution?

There seems to be an ongoing problem with T-mobile and MVNOs. I don't know much about it except that 5G and Pixels are involved. Until the problem gets sorted out a temporary fix may be to set 'Preferred network type' to LTE/4G for one or both SIMs. Also try disabling 'Mobile data always active' in Developer options.
