Hello everyone..
my nexus 6 suddenly cannot see 2.4ghz wifi bands. Only 5ghz bands are showing in the wifi page. So far I tried:
1) clean install of pure nexus rom.
2) tried stock, elementalX, and franco kernel.
3) flashed the radio.zip provided in the forum.
4) tried Two different modems.
I did not try another ROM, should I?
Furthermore, other phones and laptops are able to see the 2.4ghz wifi band and are currently connected to it.
Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.
Cheers
Radios / modems only handle cellular, not wifi. WiFi is controlled by kernel modules, so something is blocking of disabling those, especially with the various ones you have tried. Logcat, dmseg, and / or last kmsg is what you need to troubleshoot.

I thought the local SIM card set the wifi region code. Have you tried a network settings reset (settings > wireless and networks > more > network settings reset)?

it's really weird that there is no app or option to specify wifi region. I would really like to go back to pure Nexus since lineage OS is really slow compared to pure Nexus.

Pure Nexus is based on stock. What you're describing has been discussed in the google help forums. That's where I understood that the SIM card defines the Wi-Fi region. People have reported shutting down, pulling the SIM card, rebooting then repeating after replacing the SIM card *sometimes* helps.

I did not try pulling out the sim card... This is the only thing left to do... I shall try it and I will report if it works..

just remove the sim card and you will see the hidden wifi bands. This is what I did:
removed sim card
clean flash rom
boot and see available Wifi
you will see that 2.4 ghz wifi is now showing
connect
now add the sim card.
I am not sure if you need to reflash your rom... Try to just remove the Sim card, restart and connect to the Wifi without Sim card.
my wifi was still not showing even though other 2.4ghz Wifi were showing. Changed the wifi channel from 13 to 2. Now the wifi is showing...

Channel 13 isn't used in the US. So if the Wi-Fi region (set by SIM card) is not right, channel 13 won't show. This seems to be a major annoyance outside of the US based on the number of complaints on the google forums. Removing the SIM card, connecting to the Wi-Fi and then reinstalling the SIM card has reportedly worked for some.

Believe me I have taken the sim out and tried it in the "wrong way" lots of times. I have also looked at your solutions page before, very helpfull. But why will the sim work on one network but not on another, and the non working sim will work in another phone????

Check the modem on both phones.
If the phone that doesn't recognize T-mobile has a different modem, then load the modem that the phone that works has through oden or CWR.
Hope you know how to check the modem and load new ones.
Good luck

This will happen as T.Mobile may be using a different Radio band ..most likely you changed the APN and Network settings when you used it with another SIM Card , whilst abroad ...all you may had to do was check your Network Settings in menu> settings>wireless and Networks> Mobile Networks and reset it back for the T.Mobile network, initially
To understand this better read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
at the same time since you upgraded by flashing to JB, you may have to select a new modem that is suitable for JB, you will find all modems at My Android Collections
Data but no calls
Me back again, I have tried all xx modems, reverted back to stock rom, then GB, them back to CM10. When I first turn on phone it finds network (i'm on a giffgaff sim now) it says GiffGaff at the bottom of the screen for about 2 seconds, then it says emergengy calls only. I can still connect to internet. APN settings correct, IMEI correct, In Settings - About Phone - Status, i'm connected to network, service status = out of service, mobile network state = connected, my phone number = unkown. Where can I go from here?
More
Another thing I have just noticed, when I take the sim OUTwhen the phone is still ON, the "no network" on the screen turns to giffgaff,

Try to set your phone number by following this guide , it was written for a Korean version, so just adjust it for your phone version.

Signal? You mean data (3G)?
Have you checked your APN settings under Mobile Netwrks? (I think there was a "More" option). These need to match your carrier's required settings.

Look up the defaults from your carrier and verify everything. I ran into an issue where my carrier changed things around; older SIM cards used different settings than newer cards. If you went online, only the newer settings were listed. I had to do some searching to verify the old SIM card settings.
What network?

Dunno. If you put the cover back on and it works... Maybe a fluke.
If it doesn't work with the cover on, then it's either a weak antenna, or the cover is putting pressure on something, causing a short.
I'm on a Sprint Nexus 6 running 5.1.1 (Euphoria) and have issues with my phone connecting to LTE. I will often leave the house or work where I am on WiFi and then it will connect to 3G where I should have LTE. If I put it in airplane mode and then back it will connect to LTE like it should. Sometimes it will even require a reboot.
I've tried different Roms and even returning to stock and still have the same issue. How do I fix this?
Thanks!

Are you set to Global or LTE (recommended) in cellular networks settings? Also, in developer options, you can set to aggressively hand off to data from WiFi.

Was on Global, will try LTE (Recommended). Also just FYI, it will even occur if I'm out driving around and not connected to WiFi at all. It will switch to 3G and won't switch back until I toggle aiplane mode again or reboot.

Honestly, I'd flash a stock backup or a stock ROM. Then go into carrier settings and update PRL and Device config. Then flash AOSP again and see if it's any better.
I've tried AOSP a dozen times while on Sprint with different devices; not once have I been able to get data/mobile to work.. Just gotta stick to stock ROMS.

Hello,
I recently updated my Z3 compact (D5803) to android 5.1.1. on the T-Mobile network here in NYC. Ever since then, I frequently lose the ability to do anything data-based with the phone. No web browing, no chatting on whatsapp. I can still make phone calls and send/receive SMS, however. The data functionality returns when on WiFi, but goes away once I switch back to LTE. In order for me to get data on LTE, I have to manually download the internet settings for my provider to my phone (this is located under the Settings menu in android). Even then, it only lasts for several minutes before the data connection is lost. T-Mobile was unable to fix the problem, and changing the SIM card didn't resolve the issue.
Anyone else experience this?
Yes, many others have the same problem, see various posts in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/discussion-5-1-1-stock-released-post-t3162309
Currently, the best workaround seems to be to disable and re-enable mobile data, or to go to airplane mode and back again. That solves the issue until you drop LTE connection the next time, then you will have to re-iterate.

Yes I am having the exact same problem since updating to 5.1.1. As the other reply says turning airplane mode off then on is the quickest way to get connectivity back (swipe down twice from the top for quick access). This is terribly frustrating though, it only lasts for a few minutes. I can't believe they pushed the update with this issue!

My phone had this issue after the over the air update. I reset the phone to factory, wiped all data. Two days on, now, and no more problems with this.
Same problem. I tried factory reset out of desperation, but it didn't work.
Love this phone, but very discouraged by this bug.

As posted in the other thread, there is now a fix/workaround:
From reddit user FishStik5: Going into the APN settings and changing the APN protocol to iPv4 only (it was iPv6 before) seems to fix the problem.
How to find the setting: Settings-> Wirelessa and Network / more -> Mobile networks -> APN -> T-mobile data -> APN protocol -> Set to IPv4.

i'm having the same problem and didn't work for my the ipv4. still loosing data, i have to reboot the phone
I have also problem with that (Orange, Poland). I sent my phone to official Sony service, they reload the software, but I still have that problem. Lte is working for a while and when my phone switches to wcdma (because it is not in a range of lte) it is not working either. However, when I change the preferred network from lte to wcdma it is working without any issues.
Same problem here although I'm on ipv4 [emoji34]
Sent from my Z3 Compact
I thınk you shouldnt buy operator phones. Buy ınternatıonal models next tıme
Mine isn't an operator model, I'm using Straight Talk and also have the issue. It made my phone useless....I almost never have data
This worked for me
This worked on my Doogee Valencia2 Y100Pro
Install and Open app "Hidden Android Settings" (by 0Alex)
Select choose and open "RadioInfo"
Move to Last option "TOGGLE DNS CHECK"
mine read "0.0.0.0 not allowed"
press the "TOGGLE DNS CHECK" so that it displays "0.0.0.0 Allowed"
That's it - my mobile data worked, I hope it works for yo

this is a bug on 5.1.1 sony need to fix it
Any news with this issue?
No problem here with LTE on the CM 12.1 Cyanogenmod flavor of 5.1.1 on T-mobile (that I've noticed at least). But I think CM 12.1 may handle the APN settings differently (mine is set to T-Mobile LTE ipV4) from the stock ROM or it could be something Sony messed up from the AOSP code. I'm NOT suggesting anyone try a CM ROM as a solution as there are lots of downsides to unlocking your phone and flashing any non-stock ROM. But the problem does seem to be specific to the Sony ROM and not 5.1.1 in general.
I also have this problem after the update to 5.1.1 in the Netherlands. The first problem was that the update changed some mobile data settings, so I downloaded the settings from my provider. Unfortunately those settings were also incorrect as I had to manually remove the APN's Proxy and Port (they were set, be needed to be 'not set'/empty). This improved the connection a bit, but it still looses the mobile data at certain places (where the coverage is good). Did a factory reset as the Sony helpdesk suggested. For a few days this seemed to help, but again the same issue came up. The suggested solution mentioned in this thread did not work as those settings are already applied.
I have a profider (Telfort) which uses another provider's network (KPN's). So after the update I also see a annoying R in the signal icon, where in the previous version it always showed H+, H, 3G.
Does anyone know if this is resolved in the new update?
After the last update and a new reconfiguracion on the APN now work correct for me.

And which version are you on? 23.4.A.1.200 or 23.4.A.1.232?
I bought a used XT1806 off someone local. They had AOSP Extended installed and was using it with Verizon. I use T-Mobile and tried to use the ROM with T-Mobile but WiFi calling wouldn't work.
I tried flashing a few ROMs but all the ROMs have the same problem. Under the mobile network settings, I get a "Error while searching for network" popup. It connects to T-Mobile fine but I can't force it to search for networks.
I have my IMEI showing properly, but this error prevents me from checking network settings and causes issues with WiFi calling. My phone will get "kicked" off the network randomly when this happens and I have to reboot the phone in order for it to go back out of emergency calls only mode.
I flashed it back to stock Nougat and everything works as designed, WiFi calling and all, so I'm lost for where to go from here. Does T-Mobile WiFi calling just not work on non-stock right now? On any non-stock ROM I am completely missing the IMS details that show up on stock Nougat, and the network is super flakey.
Go to the play store, find and download the App Hidden Menus from Craig Newell. Open it up and see what hidden Menus it has for your carrier.. Play around in there and see if you can find something of use.. I did with Sprint, but haven't tried it out on any custom roms.

I found under *#*#3282#*#*: Data Settings, which include Data Profile, EVDO, Advanced, eHRPD, LTE, Apn setting LTE-Available.
Then under *#*#33284#*#* I found HiddenMenuApp, which includes 1xEngineering EVDO Engineering, LTE Engineering, Configuration, Bluetooth, Data Status, Memory State, eHRPD
These are just a few of which I have found. There are a bunch of stuff under the title SprintDM as well.
I mentioned in a topic I started, that these might be handy for those who try custom rom, and have big issues with Sprint service and data.. This is why I haven't installed any custom roms yet, as I don't have the time, and this is my primary phone, and can't afford for it to go BOOM, when I need it. LOL
