[Q] Help - I just want my phone to work - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Please can someone help me.
I have been using Supernexus rom for a few months and whilst it is good I have a few problems with it. Namely I cant save pics to SD from camera and Swifitkey keeps loosing its language packs. So I flashed a JB rom and it was good but I kept getting boot loops and having to restore my Nandroid of Super Nexus. Later I tried the Official Clean JB release and again I got boot loops. I tried changing the Kernel to one that was supposed to fix the bootloops but again the same problem. I have used the forum search I have tried many things but can someone please tell me which rom,
JB or ICS and what Kernel I need to get my phone working in a stable fashion without loops. I don;t even care about it being rooted or any custom apps anymore I just want stability.
Please help..
Thanks

Thanks very much. If I revert back to stock via ODIN will I loose my Nandroid Backup. Also, how do I know which ROM is stock? Really appreciate the help.

Would this be a suitable way of doing it? http://www.android.gs/update-galaxy-note-n7000-official-jelly-bean-4-1-2-xxlsz/

try to flash stock rom n root it wif safe kernal n then do all wipe n factory reset !
important things is do not restore any data n check ur phone is it solved the problem by
pulling out the battery during screen on n put back battery turn on the phone 7sec on N7000 logo
once u see Samsung logo then just wait for the screen to turn on roughly ard 10sec
if everythings is in good condition then u can now take ur own sweet times to redo all over again by not restoring
any data from backup !i solved the problems by flashing everything odex pure stock.

I have been on Alliance Rom for the last 6 days...haven't faced any boot-loop issues...I strongly recommend it.
I suggest you should flash a safe kernel and flash this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1974612

http://sourceforge.net/projects/max...BT/MaxFu_HydraCoreNirvana_n6.JBT.zip/download
Root ur phone and DL this kernel..flash this kernel once rooted and flash any custom RoM..i have been using this kernel as my fav kernel for the past 1 month or so/// i hope it helps

If you want to be fully stock have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530501

[Q] Boot screen loop and black screen

Hi guys, pretty urgent help needed here.
I'm on holiday at the moment so desperately need my phone to do anything and to contact my friends on the island at another hotel!!
I was using it as usual this morning, and then the next time I tried to turn it on I get nothing. So I pulled the battery and upon reset I get the boot animation (Rocket rom 23) and then a black screen until the battery is pulled.
I still had the zip file on the internal sd so I installed it through recovery. No success.
I've tried wiping the data and the system and installing onto a blank phone but still no success.
Starting to panic a little here, any help would be greatly appreciated.I have wifi access and a netbook if that helps?
Andy
Did you make a GB backup?
I know it's not possible to revert to your old GB backup when using any ICS ROM but I was able to restore my stock GB backup through CWM while using RocketROM (took me five tries though).. Try it, nothing bad will happen.
If you don't wanna try and can download some files then I recommend you to just put your phone in download mode and flash a stock rootable firmware through PC Odin.

@Sujal. Rocket rom v23 is not ICS. So he is still on GB rom and backup can be restored if he had created it.

My problem come when I try to Install the new version of CriskeloRomNOTE.vICS.v9.1

Then i cry for 5 minutes , the i remove the battery and power on again an then start succesfully, but when i get in CWM this take me to my first CWM 5.5.0.4
Then i try to flash

Finding Update package...
Opening Update package...
Installing Update package...
AND GET STUCKED HERE then i have to power off the phone
Then I try to flash

Got into something like this yesterday, this is what I did.
Downgrade to GB via ODIN and later go to recovery and flash abyss kernel, then wipe data/cache, wipe dalvik cache.
Then, flash the rom of your choice.
Remember, to take a backup through Nandroid or titanium backup.

Follow the procedure from the youtube video and get rooted gingerbread rom . All your clockworkmod related issues will be solved and you will be good to go . Next , if you want to flash Criskelo rom then follow the exact procedure mentioned in his thread . Dont replace or re-order any steps else you will end up with nasty issues . Good luck , if you need more help then let me know

Downgrade from ics to gingerbread.
1. Download any stock or pre-rooted gingerbread rom. ( you can easily find at dr.ketan or bodivas thread.)
2. Open pc odin and connect you devices with pc/laptop.
3.After get conneted, press pda button and choose the ginger rom file ( choose the biggest size file about 800mb ++).
4. Press start and wait until finished.
Remind: only press the pda button and choosing the right file. Other boxes must leave it untouch.

1) Do you do full wipe while install v9 ?
2) Are you successfully booted into v9 after the u pulled out the battery and restart?
3. What is the status of your phone now? Is better do nothing and let other member clarify and give you proper method of guide.

Im not sure what happened during you upgrade to v9 and why redcwm will appeared before you flash it.
1) Abyss 4.2 original/custom is a gingerbread kernel, im assuming you at abyss kernal, therefore your phone 100% wont able to boot into ics base rom.
2) Im assume now you cant flash any kernel, no matter what kernel thru cwm. Then you should flash ics rooted kernel thru pc odin. ( no need to worry about the binary count and yellow triangle).
Please report back. Other member will be glad to help you.

If you can get into recovery then why don't you just restore the back up. your phone will cone back to the original state. but the point is can you reboot to recovery. don't worry about bricking on GB.

But he did mentioned never flash gb kernel during ugrade to criskelo v9. But why redcwm appear? ( he did mentioned able too boot into recovery mode)
According to his report, i think he might lost full root. ( because the flashing kernel proccess get stucked at all. ) if doing nand restore at this stage might having some risk. ( maybe).

Wht i understand is you want to flash a custom ICS rom on your note.
First of all..
Get root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Stick with the instructions.
After doing this you will have root+cwm installed on your lovely note.
Now download Abyss 4.2 from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
Now download custom ics rom from android development section and put it in your phone sd card or external card.
Reboot into recovery.
Flash abyss 4.2
Go to advanced and reboot recovery.
Now you have abyss redpill recovery or touch cwm.
Do all 3 wipes. Cache, Dalvik and data.
Flash rom
Reboot system

Criskelo ICS v9 trouble
Hi,
I installed criskelo v9 on my phone just now..and titanium backup doesnt work..it says i do not have root permissions
now all my apps are on it and the phone is pretty pointless without it..
I tried installing abyssnote and franco kernel just to see if it works but the update gets stuck at "installing packages" and then reboots to system to the earlier settings..
the cwm i have right now is also not the touch version and my kernel is cf-root so i do not know if i should be reflashing criskelo directly on this to check for any difference..
PLease tell me what i need to do..I am lost and could not find anything after an hour of googling

I followed the instructions to the T.. Root permissions didnt happen..Here's what i did..
1. Downloaded CWM and busybox and placed them where he said
2. Booted into recovery and installed CWM
After this the UI didnt change to the touch UI as he indicated but was still the button UI
3. ANyway went ahead and installed busybox from the zip
Here the progress was stuck at "unmounting system" till the phone reboot itself to the system..And i still dont have root permissions as per titanium..
Where did i go wrong?

Hi, what i really want is root permission so i can use criskelo as my ROM..I was using gb (checkrom v6 with abyss) till now and thought of upgrading to ICS...if i get root permissions i can restore my apps using titanium and my problem wil be solved..titanium is currently saying i dont have root permissions and not restoring my apps...
Of course i will want to change kernels too to mix and match my requirements with battery life later on...
If your desire is to just get rooted, then download the Abysskernel touch zip file* : http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.zip
Saved it in your external SD card and install it using Recovery Mode
After that, your phone should restart and check after if you have SU(Superuser) and CWM installed. If you do have it.. Rest assured your phone is already rooted.

Thats where the problem is..i have tried installing that file multiple times..it gets stuck at "installing update" and reboots into the system..
Within the phone i already have CWM (as the app) in my phone but it says it cannot work coz i need cf-root v5 or newer for it to work...can i use the LRG file as given in this forum to change the kernel?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
file name : CF-Root-SGN_XX_DBT_LRG-v5.6-CWM5 (i had chosen the LRG modem while installing criskelo v9)
Are there different kernels for ICS and GB and maybe im trying the wrong file?
Also right now all i want is the root..but i also wanna be able to rollback to gb later and try other roms as per my convenience if i dont like criskelo..so any guidance keeping that in mind for the future will b much appreciated
Thanks..

Thanks..

What is your current ROM now? stock DXLRG? if it is, yes you can flash that kernel on your link (using mobile odin pro). Try to check back after thru CWM if it still gives you the same message or not.
Yes, there are different kernels solely for ICS only and also solely for GB alone. Don't make a mistake in mixing a GB kernel to your ICS Rom or else your phone gets fried.

I am right now on Criskelo ICS v9..
The exact problem on my phone (id mentioned earlier too) is that its like its semi-rooted..things like cpuspy etc work..but titanium backup and moble odin dont..my main motive is to have titanium working so i can use the phone normally..
Now i see that criskelo has just launched v10.1 of the same ROM which has solved the semiroot+wifi issue..download is in progress and It wud be great to know how i can move on to that now..
Abyssnote kernel is not installing (stuck at "installing update" ) and as per my knowledge the phone isnt rooted (coz titanium backup and mobile odin dont work)..
Can i rollback to prerooted gb (i have this file: Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000DDLB2 - nonwipe gb ROM) via PC odin to initiate the whole process again under present circumstances?
Whole process here meaning *prerooted gb+abyssnote kernel+criskelo v10.1 install*..
PS - i did all wipes while installing the present ROM (if it matters)..
Yes, you have what we call it here as a semi rooted phone. Not getting all the permissions to access system files inside. It's a good thing though that Criskelo has a new version to his ROM and that should be appropriate in installing it.
Can you rollback to pre rooted GB? Yes you can. Just pick the appropriate GB ROM. And oh by the way bud, stay clear on fully wiping your phone... Remember your walking in a thin line here when your flashing Custom ICS ROMs...
Just a heads up, that's all.
Cheers!

Under these conditions can i go ahead with installing the prerooted gb ROM that i mentioned?
and about the heads-up (sorry im still new to flashing ) do u mean i shudnt be wiping everything when i do the flash to the prerooted gb now? (the ROM i have is a no-wipe ROM as i said earlier)
Thanks again

first, let's tackle your second question. If your on Criskelo ICS now, please under NO circumstances, YOU DO NOT FULLY WIPE your phone before going back to the pre rooted GB. There's a bug circulating around the forum and it's called the SUPER BRICK BUG. It'll fry your emMC chip (on your phone) thereby making it as a dead paper bag. There are countless of folks here already that have succumbed to the bug. Most have returned their dead phone back to Samsung Repair for an exchange on the motherboard. That is how deadly this bug can sting your phone.
So stay away from it. (It's better late than never, mind you)
on your first question,
Use PC Odin to downgrade to a pre rooted GB one. That's it.
Cheers!

Did you get rooted installing busybox su? I think you have partial root.
Install busybox from playstore and open it. Press install button. It should be fine.

to check if you are fully rooted copy and paste in root / system...install busybox that helped me on ics roms then once your fully rooted flash a safe kernel ..dafuq , speedmod etc then flash new rom . dont do any wiping til on a safe kernel and read instructions fully
@All
Thanks for the your responses
This is what i did after getting some doubts cleared over here:
I rolled back to a prerooted ODEX gb ROM..and installed rocketrom for now..gonna use it for a while and check how people are finding criskelo v10.1..Once im satisfied with that gonna go ahead with flashing it..
Thanks again :good:

Suddenly remove the battery results in Stuck at Boot Logo in JB Leaks (XXLSA,LCS)

Why when my device freezes or something else and decide to remove the battery and put it again, result at stuck on Samsung Galaxy Note screen? This only happens on JB Leaks. There are 2 only solution that i know.
-1st is to wipe data/factory reset in CWM but that makes to lose all data.
-2nd Once you stuck at the Samsung screen, enter in CWM and make a Backup, later make a Advanced Backup and select only the "Data" partition of your backup to restore. That recover you Galaxy Note but makes you lose a lot of Time.
Is There other solution? Why when you suddenly power off makes the Galaxy to Stuck? Is there a file in special?
Sorry for my bad english and regards.
i have this problem on xxlsc , normally i just go to >PhilZ-cwm6 n do a system reboot n it back to normal.
there are no other solution, if u got a previous backup using >PhilZ-cwm6 then just restore it or flash ur jb again.
don't use the latest Safe Stock Based Kernel v3.99 doing any special backup cuz it might stuck on N7000 logo
i'm not sure anyone facing the same problem or not just an advice.

sorry u don't have to flash again just do a factory reset n u'll back to jelly bean.
This is a known bug on every JellyBean leaks, live with it and wait for update or downgrade to ICS

i didn't try normal backup but when my phone hang on N7000 logo i do a normal
restore that's work so i'm now back to the old >PhilZ-cwm6 v3.75
I have this problem too.
after removing the battery, it would hang on the logo.
same with all other roms :crying:
I have found a work around, but you have to be patient with me, this will save your data from deletion.
when you get stuck on LSA or LSC, flash Phils safe kernel, make sure you have the JB one, and dont use 3.99; get older one, and do Full backup.
After the backup, do a factory reset, and reboot to system. After the system boots and settle up, reboot to recovery and choose advanced restore and restore /data only.
After completion, reboot and viola its back and even faster than before..

just go advance >>> reboot to recovery>>>fixed.
happened to me 3 times and that fixed my problem...

Dont wipe system after you flash the ROM. Only wipe cache. If you wipe system you are earasing the ROM.

Help!
Did you end up figuring this out? I've just had the same thing happen to me!
This build is a COD6..
have you folks updated your bootloader and modem???
If your flashing the partial firmware using odin.. then you need to boot directly into recovery and flash the Rom.
Please post a screen shot of "about device" so i can see your baseband..

I'm not really sure what you mean, I'm still relatively new at this.
It wouldn't boot at all, but I managed to install twrp through the recovery. Afterwards I put the rooted stock ROM on the SD card and did a wipe/install from recovery and now it's stuck doing the loop and vibrating twice each time.
I can't figure out how to find that information when I only have access to recovery, it's the Bell version in Canada, SM-N910W8. I had it up to date and just rooted it last night.
Thanks for your quick reply!
Edit: I did change a couple of things with build.prop.editor before it happened, that's what I'm thinking screwed this.

So you have twrp installed..
Ok. Do you have a nandroid back on your ext sd by chance?? If so reboot recovery under advanced wipe sys/data/dal/cache.. then navigate to your ext were your restore is and flash it..
If not follow these steps.[emoji16]
Step #1 download either a stock rom of your choice or something like This
And a copy of the bioshock kernal. If you decide to use the rom i provided the link for. Check the md5 sums from the download source after you download the files to make sure they match. Download them onto your ext sd card.
Step#2 reboot recovery go to wipe advanced and check/ system/data/dalvik/cache/and internal.. ×3
Then factory data reset x3
Then nav to ext sd and flash the rom.
Note: if you flash the link i provided you have to flash the kernel in the same session... READ THE OP..
Note: #2 when you wipe internal your internal sd card will be wiped so if you need to save pics or whatever do so prior..
You can try skipping the internal once but if it loops then you prob should wipe it like i said and flash kernal such as bioshock.
Ok thats it for now please follow and read what i wrote carefully..
And for now stay away from COD6 for now.. unless you understand the procedure... its all about the kernal flashing in the same session before you boot up..[emoji41]
One last thing.. its dangerous to be
"NEW AT THIS" and just start flashing stuff you need to be carefull and read read read.. in your case W8 you need to flash a kernel 90% of the time same setting..

Hes on W8 so unless im mistakin COD6 bootloader and modem will not work.
He can flash the builds but needs a kern to complete the boot... like bio..
And doesnt need the COD6 firmware..
He prob can flash the rom he wanted he just needs to follow it with the kern before he booted...
