N7 WiFi: How to get back to Stock ROM? - Nexus 7 General

Hi,
right now I have the latest nightly of CM 10.1 running on my N7 WiFI (grouper).
I suppose if I'd want to return to the google stock rom (rooted of course), I will have to flash the stock rom file via cwm recovery.
Is this correct?
Can somebody tell me where to find the 4.2.2 stock rom for this device?
Thanks!
Andreas

Rgrds,
Ged.

If you are just looking for a stock rom experience, try this.

Towards the bottom I have a stock rooted rom. Only changes is it is rooted, initial.d enabled, and busybox installed (some updated apps that are not odexed). You can also of course try some of my mods too if you like.

Problems install Hashcodes new 10.2 4.3.1 update to KF HD

Ok I attempted to flash the new Rom to his latest update. Would not boot up, pretty much stayed at the Cmod screen. Good news for me i had a older 4.2.2 rom on the unit still and was able to revert back to that.
I noticed that he said I should update TWRP. How in the world do I do that?
I have installed the file, but I can not figure out how to actually update to the latest TWRP. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Flash the twrp file like if it was a rom and then reboot, thats it

Download the most recent TWRP from Hascodes thread as he modifies them so they work on our Kindle Fire HD's. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848 Then use your FireFlash app and flash TWRP in the recover.img just like the first time only don't tick or check any other boxes. It's easy as 1,2,3.

[Q] How to restore fro CM11 back to CM7.2?

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S i9000 currently running SlimKat (CM11 based). I need to revert back to CM7.2 for a bit to run an app that will only work properly on that version of Andriod. I tried to flash the ROM from CWM, and I keep getting error messages. Is there something else I have to do first go revert back to CM7.2?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

yes, you need to flash a lower version of CWM to flash a CM 7.2, meaning flash a gingerbread kernel and use it to flash a CM 7.2 ROM. or follow this

[Q] What kernel should I use with Cyanogenmod

Hi,
I recently flashed my Note from the stock ICS to CyanogenMod (I cheated and used the app). I have then updated to the latest nightly release and all is looking good, however, I am wondering if I am running the correct Kernel version, or if there is a better one that I should be using.
Also, where can I download a safe version of the Google Play Store apk?

Inbuild kernel is good.
Play Store apk is in GApps.zip available.
Hey, thanks for the reply. I have just managed to get GoogleApps installed from here wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps. Lets see how I get on now
Or this one found vie forum search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942
Hi, yep that's great thanks. I just put that in there as an after thought, hadn't done a search I know newb sorry.
I was more concerned about the kernel question as I feel that's a little harder to search for when I am not entirely sure what I am looking for. When I initially rooted the phone I believe the "rooting" method I used installed a custom kernel, and then by the looks of it the cyanogen app has now updated it to a version they supply. Just wanted to know really, if this kernel is the best to be running on my N7000.

Yes, for rooting a custom kernel WITH recovery got installed for the rooting. If you flash an update for your CM Rom you will automatically get also a new kernel which should fits fine. Or do a search and you will find some nice alternatives, but be shure it' for your Rom!

CleanROM is a stock-based, rooted rom. Also not all the ROMs in that dev thread are CM based.

Is there a disadvantage from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2?
add supersu to your stock rom(unlock bootloader and flash a recovery) and youll have a stock rooted rom. btw, the far majority of roms here on not based on cm, but based on aosp.
OK.is the nexus 6 not officially on 5.0.2?just wondering because clean ROM is still on 5.0.1

Why not just flash root then clean out all the stuff you don't want? That's what I did . Just flashed a new kernel last night and at this point am pretty happy. 5.1 should be dropping soon and then after some soak test (read let the brave and bold and try it out for a few weeks) I will probably drop in Chroma.

How to change from CM12 to AOSP?

New here, rooted, switched from stock to CM. I just wanted to try out AOSP to see which one I like more. Is it just flashfire the AOSP ROM?

Yup. Just add a wipe action (system/dalvik/cache; data optional) *before* the flash action.
Does anyone know if the AOSP will work on 5.3.1.? Up above it says it is only for 5.0.1.

At present all custom ROMs for this device are compatible with all versions of FireOS v5 (specifically stock bootloader/kernel) released to date (5.0.0-5.3.2).
Some versions of FireOS are not currently rootable hence the rollback/upgrade dance. But that has nothing to do with ROM compatibility.
Great. One more question, is there a way to make a system backup? I don't have any files on it but reinstalling apps took a while..

Existing apps/data will remain if you do not wipe user/data partition. Really only need to wipe system and dalvik partitions when switching between custom ROMs leveraging the same base level of Android.. all ROMs for this device.
And me being the idiot I am, I forgot my pattern. Unless I guess it, I'll have to factory reset and root it again...
