how to improve the sound on my experia z? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so i have moved away from htc for the first time, not sure if it was a mistake or not but, i just cannot hear anyone on my experia z, i was at a conference at the weekend and trying to take a call somewhere busy is just impossible, i have tried all the settings, sound boost the only way i can hear someone is with them on loud speaker, and upside down.
I mean the only time i can hear my phone on normal speaker is if i am sat in a silent room, is there anyway *surely there must be?* to improve this, turn the volume up?
thanks

Try a factory reset, if that doesn't work return the phone and get another one.
I don't have any problems like that (Or problems at all)

OT: By spelling it XPERIA with the e
You actually see it everyone you start up your phone
Just kidding, but dont make same mistake again. :screwy:

factory reset hasnt done anything, took it into shop and they claimed nothing wrong with it, cos you can hear someone when your in a quiet room, however, the quality to me is crap and the sound is very very quiet, nowhere near that of the previous htc but obviously if the place i got it think there is nothing wrong, then they wont change

Headphone speaker on XZ is very tiny and close to upper edge. Try to reposition your phone while taking a call, it dramatically improved my talk quality.

Speaker Boost. Or any similar app that works on JB(I can't find any yet). There's a small issue though. Sometimes it's not active even though it's supposed to be. In that case, just open the app again and it should be fine.

Have you been into all the settings and tinkered about there are a good few options

might seem stupid but you havent been showing off to all your friends your new 'waterproof' phone have you?
seen somewhere that when this has been done it can take a while for the speaker etc to dry out properly and quality is reduced....just a thought.

hi, yes i have tried the enhancements they dont seem to do anything at all, i guess i could listen to a recorded message or voice mail with them on differently see if i can notice anything but to be honest, none of them were noticeable.
i have poured water on phone yes but it didnt make difference this has been bad since fri and the water didnt make any difference
i will try and find an app although when i looked couldnt see anything

speaker boost doesnt work, but thanks

Is it just me or is the speaker really crappy?

I was wondering if anyone else noticed, but when I put a call on speaker the sound that comes out of it is really really crappy...
Is there *any* way this could somehow be improved, without changing the speaker itself?
The voices sound totally metallic and screeching like this
Turning down the volume doesn't really help, cause then I can't hear the voices at all....
What is your experience with this?
So it's just me...?
I read here on Xda some similar opinions.....

Nope mine is the same, it really does suck..sounds far too tinny...
me too and I was pretty disappointed when I listened to music via the headset too, no bass and low volume, at least with the Windows Media Player, maybe TCPMP does better.

This is definitely a bug, in the middle of playing a song, switch the Audio Booster OFF, then unplug and replug the headphones, then switch the Audio Booster back on. Problem solved.
On another note, the supplied headphones aren't that great anyway. I'm waiting for a USB to 3.5mm audio adapter in the mail, and then I will test the bass with some proper headphones. But do try my suggestion above as it does fix the bass issue. Only problem is you will find yourself doing that fix a lot! The problem will reoccur eventually.
Thanks, actually I hadn't even thought of trying the "Audio Booster", why the heck do you need that anyway ?! SRS Wow I can understand being optional, but that ?
I have a 3.5" adapter handing around from my Kaiser will try it with better headphones, but the Touch Dual had decent sound with the supplied headset. I think it was a different player though, HTC Player ? Where did that go !
f'course the speakers suck big time. It ain't a Sony Ericsson though!
using an MP3/WAV as ring tone is a disaster, so better stick to the on-board electronic high treble midi tones.
HTC had only 1 device made in the last years with good sound: Atom life with double stereo speakers if I am not mistaken.
my Tytn II sounds better in all aspects and that was neither a glory.
I am starting to think that mine sucks more than average now. Even the regular tones that come with the phone really really suck.
And putting a conversation on speaker, well that just sounds like talking through 2 cans with a wire in between them.

Thats because Diamond has a low-pass filter that effectively cuts low frequencies from sound output.
To what purpose, I have no idea. But thats a sad fact.

I expect the speakerphone to at least be useable. It's so bad that the option shouldn't even be there on the phone. If I'd known it was this bad I wouldn't have bought the phone in the first place as this feature is quite important to me.
I expect the speakerphone (and general call quality) to at least be as good as other phones of similar size (Nokia, Sony Ericsson etc).
I expect the battery to last more than 12 hours with direct push turned on.
I expect to be flamed for writing this by people who are happy with their phone because they don't need this and that function.
I expect I'll be replacing my phone with something that works well as soon as I can afford to.
wow thats a lot of expectations!
most people use forums like these to determine what is good & what is crap BEFORE they make the big commitment.

I don't think most people here are ready to drill and tinker with their $700 phone anytime soon...though that's a pretty good mod.

But if you have installed any of the cooked ROMS using hard SPL, you have already said goodbye to your warranty anyway. So what is the difference ?
Olipro has described a method to revert to original ROM and SPL...just for those "warranty" issues. I'm sure I've read it into one of the Diamond ROM section topics, so there's no problem with that. But for this operation (described here to improve the sound), you have no return...though, I do believe it'll improving the sound a lot...but also it'll help to get a lot of dust inside your phone
Warranty? I would have thought you would just replace the cover with a new one should the need arise.... Anyway a somewhat interesting post, although the issue of dust and whatever else getting inside the phone has kind of turned me off unfortunately. Thanks for sharing.

of course it works, and of course its louder
all ur doing is removing some of the shielding and case... is it really that hard to work out?
Warranty is now voided, and u will now have loads of **** in ur phone. congratulations.
I never listen to music/radio without my headphones... I have no doubt that it can improve the overall sound but... it's kinda barbaric + it leaves enough space for more dust and stuff... hope it works for you guys!
This looks nice, i bet the part with the 3 holes in the case it's not that necessary. Can someone who did this leave some feedback ?
While I'm sure this works I'm still not convinced that this is the only solution for the ****ty loudspeaker.
I know there is the audio something tweak which helps a bit, but for instances, some alerts such as my alarm (alarm 5) and my "you got message" alerts are shockingly loud, like scary loud.
But then you get the in call loudspeaker and the video playback which are whisper quiet. Frustrates the hell out of me
I'll do this once my Diamond is out of warranty.
If you are worried ab out dust getting in, just glue some kind of filter to the inside of the holes, such as womens stocking or fine mesh...it's not difficult
I'll do it to, after 1 year and 11 months )

[POLL] Rattle, noise after cracked case repair

I got my X1 silver back from repair yesterday. I noticed that I have a rattle inside the phone and it sound like it comes from the top area.
I did not have this rattle prior to any of the repairs.
YES, I've had it repaired for crack in the batterycompartment near volume buttons twice!!!
I went back to the repairshop and they said, after disassembling it that it's the camera that rattles and there's nothing they can do about it.
They thought that it might be this way because of the new part.
I asked if they could cushion the camera in anyway so it doesn't rattle, but no..
My question is:
Did your phone rattle after you got it back from the repairshop?
Download a sample of how the rattle sounds when I very gently tap the top part of the phone to my mousepad.
my phone has rattle even with no cracks ;/

I showed a X1 agent how my X1 sounds after repair and before he had heard the rattle he also claimed it was the wheels, but after he said "That sound is not the wheels". He told me to contact the repairshop and the guy at the repairshop said he would get back to me after speaking with the X1 agent.
It's the auto-focus mechanism of the camera. All Xperias make this sound.

In my particular case it's not the autofocus that rattles.
The X1 agent said that it isn't supposed to make that sound that mine does.
Does your rattle sound anything like mine?
It's a very tinny high-pitched rattling, the type made by something very small. It also isn't very loud, I have to listen carefully and do it with my right hand. If I use my left, my watch rattles more loudly.

Samsung Captivate Black Screen when placing call HELP!!

I love my captivate but I've been having this issue since I've had it. Everyting on this phone works. Its never been dropped. Or water damaged. But when I place a call the screen is black. The notifications bar dispays stuff but there is no caller id or dialpad. Sometimes when the person Im calling answers It comes on but not always. Never been rooted. No apps installed. Tried hard resetting. Any ideas? It is'nt the screen timeout. Not the sensor that dims. Some stuff shows up but not the caller id/dialpad area. Any thoughts?
Also thanks for all the knowledge I've gotten over the years from you guys.
Are you sure that its not just your proximity sensor?

If you're running a Gingerbread ROM then this is normal behavior first call after reboot, just "swype" your hand in front of the proximity sensor (here). However, when the phone is at the ear, the display will go dark every time you make a call.
You are on stock. Take it back. Why worry about hacking it to fix it if it's stock? From now on post questions in q&a. This is not the area for questions.

Thanks for pointing that out dru1226.
I know about the light sensor but...
this is something different. I've never seen this on any phone before. The screen goes black right when I dial out and stays that way. I cant hang up or press any keys. I can hear clearly and the person on the other end can hear me.
I have to do wait until the person on the other end hangs up. The only thing I can do is hang up.
Once I do everything goes back to normal.
Btw, thanks for the help ( in advance). And to answer you james.arroyo, I do have verizon as my primary carrier but I have a secondary at&t line.

Question Mi 11 Ultra rattles when shaken (something loose inside?)

Hello,
I've been happy Mi 11 Ultra user since the release. Didn't drop it even once.
Yesterday I noticed loud rattle noise coming from the phone.
When I shake it side to side it sounds like one item being loose.
When I rotate it... it sounds like multiple items.
I tried running camera app so that OIS was active but it made no noticeable difference.
Should I be worried?
It doesn't sound premium and definately didn't happen when new.
Open it up and see what broke.
If you do it yourself have the tools, OEM seals needed to reseal it and the skills to do it successfully.

Definately not gonna open phone that is still on warranty.
Was wondering if anyone noticed something? Maybe not that loud but still?
It should be the OIS. When I shake my phone to the side or even forwards/backwards or any other direction, I also hear a rattling noise as if there's at least 2-3 things loose inside my phone. It's happened since day one of owning the phone.
