Hi,
I'm really thinking of buying an Xperia Z, but for the moment it has nearly no ROMs.
Do you expect more ROMs to arrive or will it stay at this few ROMs available right now?
I'm looking for AOKP or Paranoid ROMs.
Thanks.

Surely more ROMs will come. Think about it. It's only been a month since the Z's been in the Market globally. Developers will get to work on it as soon as they can get hold of a device. Patience

Since Sony is releasing 100% of their source code, it's likely that there will be A LOT more custom roms.

It's shadowed by Z and ZL previously, and then Z Ultra and Z1 released not too long after ZR, plus ZR is released only in specific regions... so........ it's not standing out to the devs.

Weird. Its a better phone than the z/zl but the z/zl gets all the attention
Sent from my Xperia Acro S using xda app-developers app
it's only "better" because it uses the same hardware but a lower resolution so it doesn't have to power such a big screen and thus the overall speed is faster... it does not make it "better"...
the Z/ZL were released in April while ZR only started selling around mid-June.
also, they are available worldwide, and the Z is the first flagship of 2013 so naturally it will get the most attention, unlike the ZR which is only available in like... idk 15 countries? maybe less...
so unless there happens to be a dev who happens to have a ZR who happens to want to make custom roms for you and i to use for free, we won't be seeing much activity around here. just live with it... or get a Z/Z1/ZL... if you want custom roms i suggest u try CM... afterall most other custom roms are based on them anyway...

Or donate some money to a ROM developer. I donated some bitcoins to FreeXperia since us ZR owners couldn't use CM without them.
If you didnt know yesterday the FXP team announced that it would begin lollipop nightlies for 12 Xperia devices, in which our SP isnt included. While reading the list with the 12 devices i realised that devices that are WAY less powerfull like the E3 will get support, and our device which in my expierience seems to run lollipop with ease doesnt get support.
This really frustrated me, as i dont understand why would they do that. Does anyone have an explanation ???
Btw happy holidays everyone
Different phones = different problems. Some phones are more easy to make ports. And other fact is what the XSP developer community is not too big, we don't have much developers working on our phone. More popular phones have more developers, bringing ports more quickly. We have some devs working to bring Lollipop to us, already have a almost fully working build of 5.0 for LBL, which is more harder to port. Unlocked BL only maybe is coming soon. What rest for us is only wait. If someone can't wait is easy: just learn how to develop a ROM and build it for yourself.

Newer devices first.Even XZ is not listed,so there is no way SP could make up in the list.
I wanna buy Moto G 2nd but there is so little roms. There will be more? Somebody will make group of developers? I wanna phone with roms ;(
Because the device is just 4 months old.
Give it time, the Cyanogenmod build sounds like it's progressing nicely, and once that reaches a good point there's usually a flood of other roms.
Who needs roms as long as Motorola still supporting lollipop until this moment

Dear Fellufz,
CM13 Nightlys are officially available. Any chance to bring this to work for this little sweet device? As I can see, there is a Custom rom based on CM12.1 .... Maybe we could build something onto it to make cm13 work? ( at least make it a WiP, nobody needs bluetooth)
Any thought's on this?`
I definitely hope so and I think developers will be getting onboard for this. It is still relatively new to the market but especially at this price point and the black Friday deals, this is flying off the shelves. Its just such a nice little tablet to play and experiment with roms and see how we can push it for great general use. Looking forward to trying various roms on this thing. CM13 can't come soon enough for this.
I'd imagine alot of people will be looking go get it as its only £35 in the UK I don't know what the us price is

No they do NOT. There are only like 4 devices now that get the official nighties all being flagship phones. I doubt this device will ever have official support. It will probably get CM 13...eventually. I doubt that anyone will build it for a while though. There are way too many changes to the SRC as more and more code is pushed to the GIT. When CM official full releases come about, then is the time to expect CM 13.
Hey there,
I've been watching this forum for a while, but I still can't figure out why this device does not get more attention from ROM developers. AFAIK, there are only like one or two semi-active non-stable ROMs for this device. One of my previous phones was a Sony Z1 Compact, which was released almost 5 years ago, and there still is more activity in the Z1 ROM forum than here. Additionally, this device shipped with Oreo and therefore should support Project Treble, which should (theoretically) make it easier to create Custom ROMS. I'm not here to criticize, just genuinely curious, because I know for a fact that there are quite a few active developers who worked their butt off to make it able to backup the DRM keys on this device (thanks a lot btw!).
The amount of persons buying compact cellphone has reduced drastically over the years.

On the other hand, I don't feel a need for custom ROMs at all. Manually debloating the stock Sony ROM makes for a satisfactory, bug-free experience.

This.
Of course there are many roms for old devices, but keep in mind this aren't Lollipop days anymore.
To me, starting from 7 Nougat, Android is a complete auto sufficient OS
I agree that now Android has what a standard user needs. However, a custom ROM is still necessary if one wants to get rid of Google Apps and take full control of the system and the phone.
So I hope at least Lineage OS will be developed for our xz1c.

Sure, it's unofficial and no longer updated, but it's still a build...

Yeah, I saw this one, but as you have said it is: 1. unofficial. 2. No longer updated. Look like a strong points not to even try it, considering your phone being a daily driver, not just a test subject.
It's too soon for a smartphone that has only one year and some months in the market, and the price still around 300euros.
Wait some time and i'll be sure that some people start to make more noise about this model. Or another option, to start to learn Java or other tech to help the community!!
Check for example the Z5 compact (released on October 2015), has lot of different roms and still is a good deal (i have it running with LineageOS 14.1 till past Xmas)
Never Sony again for me. The Acro S had great support though. The good old days with proper Xposed. If I only could afford the S10. Got a S5 laying around, but I love the fingerprint scanner on this phone, so no going back to the S5.
