[Q] HTC One with branding - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can get the HTC One with Vodafone Branding for 360 Euro .. I haven't had a branded device before,
what are the downsides besides no OTA from HTC?
Is there a way to unbrand the phone?

You can root mate to get rid of branded bloatware. If not though your limited to carrier pushed out updates and if they do the cid way again regardless of if your rooted or not your stuffed
Shouldn't stop you getting it though. Hopefully HTC won't do the cid way again

They always do the cid way if there is carrier bloat. Because it's the carrier pushing out the software not HTC
Just hope for s-off or supercid

How likely will there be supercid or s-off?
For 360 it is a good deal, so I would be ready to take a small risk haha

We won't know until the device is released, more people have a chance to try
And those who already have a device that are working on it will remain quiet until it's released

I heard that with previous devices like the One S or One X+ there have been problems with getting s-off on bloated phones and changing the cid ..

The devices with sd cards are easier to exploit to begin with, especially the Qualcomm ones
They also recently found a common exploit with the Qualcomm processors
Since the one will have a Qualcomm processor we can hope a similar exploit is found

My suggestion to all is to never buy a phone (besides a nexus) that you aren't happy to have with the stock software, just in case
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

That is how I felt about it, but it's a bargain for a great phone with already awesome software
I can wait for custom roms or go without

hey I'm new to HTC phones so whats the difference with bootloader unlock, s-off, and supercid?

unlocking the bootloader let's you mess with the /system, flashing kernel & recovery partition(using a PC only). Setting the phone to S-Off let's you flash kernels, baseband/radio, recovery, hboot(through your phone directly), Super CID I'd like to know also. This CID thing just came out on the One series so no idea what is it.

CID is HTC's way to differentiate between carrier and regional devices, also that's how they push updates and they started CIDs a while ago...

Here's the kicker, sources ain't worth a Damn unless the bootloader is unlocked, and otherwise you'll just be able to do emulation only... I'm trying the htc bootloader unlocker one last time

The only things I plan to use permaroot for is permanently killing the bloatware (including CIQ), AdFree, Nandroid backup, using an international Raider stock ROM and SetCPU underclocking for battery life.
Hmm, come to think about it, that's actually a reasonably long list.
Blah, HTCdev, Y U NO WORK? Maybe the removal of the message could be heralding that something is coming...

In AT&T's letter to Al Franken they mentioned CIQ was disabled on the Vivid and skyrocket because of performance issues when activated, even though it's dormant, and I still want it out. Having the source allows us to tinker with the rom ahead of time so we can build roms before bootloader unlock takes place
You figure most roms are tested via emulation before they are made flashable, these forums will be picking up real shortly, Therefore a bootloader unlock is not far away especially since they released source on the vivid.
I am currently "experimenting" with source. I hope to release a rom after the bootloader unlock and a stable method of permanent root has surfaced on AT&T Vivid Hardware.

AT&T has no say so in GPL....releasing source code does NOT guarantee anything. they HAVE to release source code as mandated in GPL.

[Q] S-OFF HTC Vivid

Nope and atm its not needed

Search, people, search!!!
I've seen this question at least twice in the past 24 hours, and this isn't a fast moving forum!
Doktor is right; it's not available and is not (yet) needed. Certain people have S-Off just because of either the way their phone happened to come from the factory, or because they just have developer devices.

Can we have a sticky with FAQs like this? search functions are rarely perfect for me (even though in one case, the answer is actually on the first page)
 There already is one. No one bothers to read so I hardly even work on it.
Also search functions are pretty good, you just have to you know read, and refine your search if it comes up wrong.

Oh the irony... LOL :what:
Anyhow, I wish people would stop saying that we don't need it... With s-off, we would not be stuck waiting for carrier signed hboot images; as soon as one carrier released it or someone received a leak, we would all be able to use it. Right now, each user is stuck waiting for their carrier. So, all the Canadian users are stuck on GB for now for example.

As far as I understand it the firmware from onr will not work with the other. Irregardless of s-off, the radio for ics I think was change so you would still need your carriers updated radio.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I can't comment on whether there was a change of radio from GB to ICS in the releases so far. However, I can tell you that Rogers and Bell in Canada use the same frequencies and protocols as US AT&T. I have an AT&T SIM that I use when travelling in the US and my Raider works fine. So I infer that either the radios are identical (att vs Bell, not GB vs ICS) or compatible. With S-Off, I would be up and running.
Also, if I understand correctly, with S-off, we would be free to mix and match, so I could try the ATT ICS Rom, with the Bell GB radio. Anyhow, all wishful thinking for now.

For those interested in s-off ;-) you may want to take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573491

once s-off is done then yes will be able to flash roms from other htc devices to the vivid.as s-off lets you flash different radios instead having to use the radios the roms come with
Will s-off allow us to install kernels from recovery (so we don't need to fastboot from the computer each time)? Or do we just need a recovery capable of this?
Yes it let's you flash kernels in recovery

keep in mind if you're getting a One X and it comes with 2.20 on it, there's no root available yet. So it doesn't matter how many devs they have for the device, until they achieve root you won't be able to use any of their stuff.

yep so the vivid is currently looking like a better option LOL
Got the Vivid when it first came out - this phone can't help but create mixed feelings:
Cons:
- Phone is heavy
- Battery life so-so, especially now that LTE is active
- Difficulty to unlock the phone means limited developers
Pros:
- Nice big screen with good quality (at full-brightness, nearly as good as S3 or HTC One X)
- Good camera and GPS (coming from the Captivate which was disastrous in both lol)
- Has FM radio, external SD cards and removable batteries - most of the top Android phones these days are missing at least one of these
The difficulty to develop is probably the biggest downside, but after almost a year I've finally dived into custom ROMs. Unlocked the bootloader, got S-Off thanks to the wire trick, even SIM Unlocked! Using Holis ROM, which is great, should tide me over until next spring when I'm eligible for an upgrade.
So in conclusion, while the Vivid was subpar under GB, since ICS came out it's been really nice. But I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone buying this phone unless it was cheap.

The best is the international unlocked HTC One single SIM. All Ones can be S-OFF easily, unless you have certain carrier locked Ones
I'd go with one that has a camera sensor newer than December, or try to get one that has the omni sensor, to help avoid the purple tint problems in low light.

Or if your going to be using T-Mobile make sure to buy one from them as it has different band hardware then the ATT, Google Play or International versions.

Thanks for the heads up so sprint is definitely out but couldn't I s off super Cid and then take and AT&T ruu and make it as tho from AT&T or is the hardware different or something?
????
Sprint and ATT are different hardware wise.
If you want an ATT one buy an ATT one or a Google Play edition one.
