How can I have the XZ's homescreen automatically rotate to landscape mode without using a different launcher? - Display settings for screen roatation doesn't help, as it only affects apps, not the homescreen. A tweak should be possible, as the homescreen automatically rotates to landscape when then XZ is plugged into the docking station.

Yeah i search the same, too. Is there now a tweak?
Rotate in the Play Store

I am using the default launcher and the homescreen automatically rotates for me when i plug it into the dock.
It also auto rotates if you plug MHL cable in.
Would be good to have auto rotate when you turn the phone.
Must be a way to do it.

try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gpc.myweb.hinet.net.RotationAnywhere
The app istn working for me. I would like to prefer the tweak in the build.prop or anywhere. I guess its doable.
It works.
Open the app and enable it.
Go to homescreen, expand status bar and click on Rotation Anywhere.
There u can set position of launcher.

I am using AOSP YMCA Gingerbread ROM 1/28 and I notice I get lag on my screen when it switches into landscape mode. Is there a way of preventing it from going into landscape mode?
Do you want just ADW to stop switching, or every program (except youtube or apps that run natively in landscape)?
Landscape
You can actually turn off auto landscaping.
Home Screen -> Menu -> Display, then uncheck auto-rotate screen. Applications like youtube will still be able to rotate when you put them into landscape.
I think that's what you're requesting.
Thank you that fixed it

Hey all
I typically like to use my phone in portrait mode, and only want to rotate when I'm watching videos or when I'm viewing photos.
I have used rotate switches, and whilst they work perfectly, I was wondering if there is a solution to what I want.
Is there a mod/app/rule that we can set up so that the phone enables auto rotation in the Album? even if the screen is locked to portrait?
thanks

I use adaptive rotation lock. This has the ability lock apps in different modes.

^Yeah even I prefer to keep my phone in portrait mode at all times, so I know that it's kinda annoying to toggle it on/off every time before opening the album app!
Although I couldn't find any solution for the same, there is a simple workaround. Just search for "ScreenRotate Small App" in Play Store. Using this, at least you could save yourself the hassle of navigating through the Settings every time to toggle it on/off!
you can use Tasker and create a rule to turn on auto rotate when you open the gallery (and other) apps and turn off auto rotate when you exit it

In the Tasks, you create one for turning on auto-rotate (action -> display -> display rotation -> on) and one for turning off (action -> display -> display rotation -> off). So there's 2 tasks total for this. Then in profiles, create one based on Application context, choose the applications you want and hit back, then pick the Enter task (auto-rotate on). Then long-hold the Enter task that just showed up, and choose Add Exit Task, where you'll pick the auto-rotate off task.
If you still need help (and if I have time later), I can add screenshots of the process.

the lockscreen and homescreen only rotates when you have it connected to the dock. Curently you cannot rotate the the lockscreen, homescreen and app menu screen. This is a restriction that the xperia home launcher has, you can install an alternative home launcher from the the play store if you want to have the rotate function. Development for this phone is slow at the moment because of the issues that arise when you unlock the bootloader, once Sony sorts this, im sure a dev will be able to enable the function.
Use Ultimate Rotation Control from the play store.
You can set a rule that it forces landscape while in dock. It's working perfectly for me.

thx this app good for big screen phone
Thinking it would be useful to enable lockscreen rotation when the device is on its dock.
Found the good app:
Force Dock Rotation (it's free)
Just check "Plugged into a charger" in the app settings. No need to relaunch the app after.
I can confirm that this works well on a Z1 Compact using a DK32 magnetic charging dock without having to modify any settings in the app!
Thanks a lot
Sweet it works..I need it for my alarm clock

Is there a setting that locks the home screens to portrait but still allows the apps to rotate to landscape?
I don't believe there is anything in Android settings, but you could use a 3rd party rotation control app like Ultimate Rotation Control. Set it up so OneUI Home or whatever home launcher you're using is forced into Portrait mode

Try Settings -> Display -> Home screen
You should then have an option to rotate Home screen to landscape or not.
I hope that helps!View attachment 4916397

I didn't even notice that setting, probably because I've been using Nova Launcher forever. That setting gets blacked out when using other launchers. Thanks for clarifying.

Since Samsung UI has come of age I don't use Nova anymore ... and UI is getting better with each update! It does all that Nova did when I last used it.
