Hey guys!
Just noticed on my Xperia Z, that if I tap with my finger on the upper third (on the back) it sounds like something is loose on the inside. Is that normal? What could it be? Antenna? Sensors?
Btw, it makes it only while tapping on it....not when I shake it like crazy.

On a different forum, a user confirmed that his Xperia Z makes the same noise. While other start to post that theirs doesn't. Could be something normal than. Anyone any idea what it could be? Anyone here that could try it on his Xperia Z?
Sounds like the auto focus to me. Nothing to worry about if so.

Cheers for that! Was kinda worried because wasn't looking forward to get it replaced already
I think its something to do with the nfc connectors, my blackberry z10 does the same noise when taped and when I take back cover off it stops and you can see the connectors of the nfc. And if u tap them it makes the same noise.

Found this video which might shed a light if the noise comes from the nfc connector or the camera
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3ccFdB91siY#!
At 04:39 it shows it a bit closer the inside. Small but at least very sharp
Just tapped mine & nothing.
It's a common observation across all xperia z units that I've handled thus far so I don't see it to be of any cause of concern yea I've had other phones making rattling noises when being shaked/waved/tapped, my xperia x1 exhibited maracas-like abilities which were attributed to it's vibrator
You mean common as in some devices making that sound and other ones not? Just been to the T-mobile store and we tested it on a Xperia Z they had on display. It did the same sound when tapped on the back
Yes, it isn't a manufacturing defect. Whilst tapping on the front or back (especially towards the upper area of the phone), you'd hear a higher pitched 'tick' sound in addition to the tapping sound, but it's pretty subtle actually on all xperia zs that I've used this far..

Thanks for confirming that. Any chance that you know if it's coming from the camera or the NFC? Just being curious seen that everything works as it's supposed.
And no wonder they start to be sold out in different countries! You have them
You work for Sony or how come that you have used that many Xperia Z

I'm going to buy Xperia z in a few days - months, my question is: what have let you down in Xperia Z?
I already know about screen.
I kindly ask people which don't own this phone to not answer.
As I've seen many of the devs are going to buy or already have Xperia z, (im coming from Xperia Play and I've had great developers, most of them have moved to newer device, so I I'm going to do the same).
So to make it quick: what you don't like in your phone?

The phone is amazing I am happy with everything apart from the camera quality in low light situations, the camera is excellent in outdoor good light photos but poor in my opinion indoors. I would definitely recommend this phone hopefully a update might sort the camera out.
- the phone gets hot when you use it to much
- Screen on time is about 3.5-4.5h
- backside is glass
- the screen doesn't work when full of water
- It is big, sometimes doesn't reach the whole screen with the tumb without moving my hand position.
- camera doesn't always make good pictures.
But how hard you want to value which con is your opinion! IMHO i dislike the glass back... and i wish i had way better battery... but this are dreams.
Get it because it's an awesome phone. Ignore the claims that the screen isn't good. I mean, how retarded do you have to be to complain about the fact that the viewing angle is crap when you hold it at like 5 degree. The colours are way better than on Samsung Galaxy Phones.

I don't know, how many smartphones you had before, but I can assure you that it doesn't get hotter than the competition. Actually, a Galaxy S 2 gets hotter than the Xperia Z. And listing the glass-back as well as the size as a cons (or saying you dislike that) isn't really fair since those features were well known before you decided to buy it. And why would you like to use the screen under water?
In respect to the phone getting hot, I would say this is the same for most smartphones of this ilk. My Desire, Arc and XS, got very hot, but this is considered to be quite normal and nothing to worry about.
The XZ is a wonderful device. It's a noticeable upgrade from my XS and a fair bit bigger, but all in all no complaints.
The only negative points I can think of is that the camera ap starts up quite slow and that you can't change toggles in the notification bar by default.
Those are 2 things that should/could be solved really easy though.
Main things:
1) Camera app is sluggish, as already mentioned
2) Speaker on side - gets blocked by hand so you have to learn a new grip in order to not muffle your music/phone call
3) Power button on middle of right side - if you take a call when the phone's in a car dock doing satnav stuff, the phone (according to how it's set) can lock and turn the display off after the call so you have to try and press the button - which might mean taking the phone out of the dock while driving (or not!). I ended up installing an app that wakes up the phone when I wave near its proximity sensor.
noticed only this when shootin video in dark places and you turn on the light. the light is bad. miss has xperia t and light on her device is much more brighter. also in call volume isnt that great but im sure devs or sony will fix this up (lower volume because water proof cover). camera app is
indeed slow when u run it but i think its because its same app as it was on xperia x1 and didnt get much love
about camera learn basics bout takin pics and set camera to manual you will get great results
about speaker on side .. no problem for me cuz im left handed
about screen dont belive those reviews screen is really great and i mean great

I've went to the shop to check it out, most of these cons can be software-fixed.
But my biggest point in cons is
- speaker is crappy when playing music (no bass, I'm comming from xperia play which had 2 stereo speakers and they were great) not fixable
Viewing angles aren't that bad actually, it may be a little bit worse than top phones from other manufacturers but it's not that bad
I'd like to have an opinion from somebody about the battery...
Thanks to everyone for giving me some more advices for checking it out myself
The battery is amazing, playing game for 10 minutes, downloading apps and games from playstore, web browsing, and xda app.it last for 6 hours screen on time.could last for a day with 4 hours screen on.

Has anyone else encountered a rattling and/or ticking noise when they place their HTC One onto a firm surface (e.g. wooden table)?
It's quite easy to recreate by tapping the back of the phone - on the top half, near the camera - with your knuckle.
Possible causes: autofocus module, OIS, sim tray
I'd be very grateful to find out if anyone else has experienced the same, as I'm trying to work out whether it's just my phone or if it's normal!
Thank you!
It's the camera module as always, like u said autofocus module and there is a mechanical gyroscope element in the camera, your device is normal
Don't OCD
Yep, same problem here

I have the same rattle coming from the camera lens area. Easy to hear if you tap the top back edge of the phone. Seriously rattles hard when the phone vibrates, which if it is the focus I imagine can't be good for it. It also makes it sound a bit cheap with the rattle on vibrate as it's easily noticeable.
I was tossing and turning whether I should exchange it after setting the phone up for 2 days but looking around forums it seems like a common problem not limited to the HTC One. Great phone otherwise.

Mine does the same. Its the only issue I have with this phone, otherwise its an amazing phone. I have two friends in work with the same phone so I'm going ot see if they have the same issue too. Seems its on all of them so far so I wont do anything about it until I hear of a repair down the line.

Camera quality on my Xperia Z is great apart from the corners of each picture (especially the top corners), which are always very blurred compared to the rest of the image. I've tried all sorts of different settings, seems to make no difference.
Does anyone know if this is just the way things are with the Z, or a defect which they might fix/replace under warranty?
Post pictures taken from your cam.

The design of lenses have this inherent fault, corners are always more soft than the center.
However post some shots so we can see, because if you are claiming that they are very blurred it would be good help diagnose if the quality does seem worse than the norm. Also double check that the lens is in fact clean all over.

Ok thanks for the heads-up but I could just as easily have posted this as a thread (i.e. 'Possible camera defect', and without the 'Q'). I wasn't aware of the restriction on questions here.
Let me rephrase: "It seems to me that there's a defect with my camera which blurs the corners of pictures. Does anyone else have a similar experience with their camera?" (Or does that count as a question too?)
Here are some links to pictures, anyway, assuming the thread doesn't get deleted (and thanks to those who posted asking for them):
As long as there's nothing in the top corners, it takes really nice pictures:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zww62ysjtsicr1v/2013-06-06 10.52.43.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4r3lzcdeuuk7rb0/2013-07-20 19.34.35.jpg
But these three (taken to test for this fault) clearly show blurring in the top corners (comments on whether this is excessive are welcome):

I have the same problem. When I'm holding the phone in landscape mode, the left corners are also very blurry.
I experienced the same problems with my Xperia Neo, but in contrast to the Xperia Neo, the Xperia S didn't had that problem.
I'm very disappointed in Sony, because I have more problems with my Z

I do not see really problems with this, I am sure it is a slight misalignment of the lens, this happens on P&S cameras, they are typically worse than this in all corners. This effect even happens on some of the most expensive DSLR lenses, the more wide angle typically worse the issue.
If you can get the whole phone replaced because of this then you will be extremely lucky.
First of all,Sorry if this thread had been covered elsewhere.. Been using my xperia z for few months now and just yesterday I been using my phone to take pictures for the whole day. I notice that my phone start to have a click sound when my phone zooming either in or out. I have made my phone silence of its camera sound but it seem like the sound was not from the speaker but from the back of the phone. As if there is something hitting the back glass of the phone. Note: it was hot yesterday, my xperia z was in my tough case by casemate, and phone was hanging at my neck the whole time. Beforehand it never had any sound but now it does and sometimes occasionally happen. Do u guys facing the same problem? And what might be the reason for the click soubd? Should I be worried?

I was thinking the same but then when I try to detect the sound it comes from the back panel that is located near to the len.. So as for the lens stabilizing or focusing it at the lens and not the back panel. I hope this is not a problem that may cause malfunctions to the device..:crying: maybe im not hearing it properly of the sound location..
Hi all,
I just got my Note9 not more than a month ago and I'm hearing a loud rattling noise from the rear cameras when I shake the phone slightly. I know that cameras with OIS does this, but even with the camera app open, the rattle remains, just a tad bit quieter.
I've also noticed that the cameras seems to move quite violently internally when switching from Auto to Live Focus mode and vice versa.
What could be the reason for this issue?
Thanks.

My phone makes a very loud rattle noise near the cameras when I shake it. Starting last night, when I use Live Focus or the 2x zoom, I get a really loud buzzing and vibrating coming from the top ear piece and the camera will not focus (pictures look absolutely terrible). I called Samsung last night and they used Samsung Tutor to mirror my screen and I wish I could have recorded the girl's reaction when seeing the photo quality. Unfortunately, I have to send it back to Samsung for repair. Sucks.

You explained your problem in such a way that you literally answered your first question.
You shake the phone and you hear a rattle. You equated that to the mechanism that allows OIS.
You open the camera app and you still hear it only quieter. Well that's because the mechanism is now being controlled by the camera app so it's trying to keep it stable and centered.
The camera module is pretty small so the force of shaking the phone is bound to make it make some noise.
When you switch modes the aperture is closing opening and moving on it's axis slightly. So it makes some noise if you are listening but it's hard to gauge your definition of "violently" when it's so small and we can't see your device.
Everything sounds normal.

Joking aside., Removed my S-Pen and shaked my phone , I could here a slight rattle, then with the S-Pen still removed I launched the camera app, and there was no rattling at all. So maybe yours is loose? Or maybe it's within tolerance levels. Hard to say without looking at the technical manual for this phone.

Hi all,
I just got my Note9 not more than a month ago and I'm hearing a loud rattling noise from the rear cameras when I shake the phone slightly. I know that cameras with OIS does this, but even with the camera app open, the rattle remains, just a tad bit quieter.
I've also noticed that the cameras seems to move quite violently internally when switching from Auto to Live Focus mode and vice versa.
What could be the reason for this issue?
Thanks.

That's the image stabilizer module. It's supposed to move. If you lunch the camera and shake the phone again you'll notice you don't hear the sound.

The sound persists even when the camera app is open

I wouldn't worry about it then. If pics are fine.

So, any news on this? I have the same problem, never dropped the phone but have this rattling sound, and it never seems to finish focus. Either in Live Focus or over 2.0x zoom pics in auto mode.
I will send it over for repair, but don't know how much will cost or take to fix it... Any news about that.?
I have this issue as well (unlocked model).
I had a similar issue on my note 5 (that model also produced a "buzzing" noise as the OIS mechanical, possibly MEMS based, system itself stabilized).
My Note 9 does this as well, consistent with the behavior in this thread and reported elsewhere on the internet . There are plenty of Youtube videos that accurately reproduce the problem.
It seems to be a common problem, although I admit I did not notice it when I first started using my phone.
I admit, the first time I noticed it was after a moderate drop. I have a rugged case (a Supcase, one of only a handful of rugged Note 9 cases that come with a built in screen protector).
I dropped the phone from 2~3 feet, and the phone landed on or near the corner, meaning it translated a lot of the impulse of the impact into the phone and the case's chassis.
That was when I first noticed the rattling. I picked up the phone and shook it to hear if there was anything wrong and noticed the rattling. It may be that this was simply the first time I actually noticed the noise and that it was always there, but its also possible that the impact of that fall caused some component of the OIS system to come loose or break.
It would be nice to hear from Samsung about this.
To reiterate:
i noticed this on my super old Note 5. Same exact sort of behavior with the camera, although that one produced the known buzzing/hissing noise associated with the OIS system, itself, stabilizing (also a visible distortion in the image displayed as the system came into balance).
My suspicion is that this is probably similar to the problem with the Note 5. Annoying. Odd for a flagship. Scary. Especially considering the price. AND.... critically.... possibly something that may become worse over time.
No obvious functionality issues.
One thing that might help would be an app or service that will provide a more thorough diagnostic of the camera sensor. Whatever that entails. Running all systems through their range of calibration and functionality to detect any problems.
Given the IP68 rating, I would be surprised if a drop from 2-3 feet with a known quantity rugged case would not be a warranty issue if the camera were damaged in some way.
my biggest concern is that if the, presumably OIS system, is allowed to wobble around to an extent that *sounds* like movement on the order of ~0.5-1.0 mm (which is miles of movement in this type of application), will this result in long term damage. If, every time I take a step, the sensor is wobbling back and forth.... 10s or hundreds of thousands of times... up and down every time I jump in and out of my car (I literally jump, its a big vehicle).... will these things reduce the lifespan of the camera as a result of this "looseness"?
On a side note if you did not buy your Note 9 from Samsung.com directly you cannot ever forever sign up for Samsung Premium care.
They absolutely will not, under any circumstances, allow you to sign up for their premium insurance plan, even if you purchased the device from Att or Verizon or T-mobile.... Even if you bought it yesterday. Even if you go to Best Buy and let someone look at the pone and verify that its not damaged.
no possibility. So its 100% Asurion and the warranty.
If you have ever tried to replace a Note with Asurion, you know that they typically do not provide direct replacements. Instead they will provide you with the newest top-tier S-phone. Either because they don't ever have enough refurb Note devices, or because the Note is too expensive, wholesale. Even Samsung has had issues with Note replacements through warranty or insurance.
I sent mine off to Samsung and should have it back this week. They didn’t really ask any questions or seem very concerned, but I rarely get anyone that can speak or understand English. Their lack of concern and customer service throughout this issue has been very disappointing.
