sorry guys, why in the TAR version of Philz not have root? I know how to get them but why they are not included? is there any specific reason?
Sorry for my bad English

It DOES include root. Did you flash it with PC Odin?

Nope, it doesn't.
Philz post.
Odin packages instructions: ready for root
They come in the form of .tar.md5 file
• boot into download mode
• start odin3 and configure it as in picture below
• connect phone in download mode to PC via USB
• press start to flash the tar.md5 package
• to root, download the root file from here (Method 1) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
The kernel is rooted. You need to install Super User application.
Be it Super User by ChainsDD, SuperSU by Chainfire or the latest Superuser by Kaush.
Just use the zip version and flash via stock recovery. Easier....I think Philz did not include Supersu and busybox on the tar version to avoid the yellow trianlge and the binary counter update in ODIN....
cannot root your stock firmware with tar file
but will support a rooted rom if flashed later ( i used MO)

If I flash a custom ROM root permissions get them through it.
BTW I know how to get the permissions I wanted to know why they are not included and I think the right answer is this ...

If my note is was never rooted and I just flashed a speedmod kernel which is already rooted, will i have a rooted phone? thanks.
I don't think so.. You may not have root access now. For a complete and proper root follow this thread.. Here is the link

If you are not rooted, then how you flash sppedmod kernel?
Yes, it will be rooted. In fact this was exactly how I first rooted my phone...
Steps:
1. Open PC Odin 1.85 (make sure adb drivers are installed in your PC)
2. Click PDA and select Speedmod kernel in .tar archive
3. Click Start!
Result: rooted stock ROM with working CWM recovery
Extra bonus: Yellow triangle AND custom binary counter +1 (Free of Charge!)
In case you don't want the extra bonus, do a jig method to remove them (which I did too).

I tried each and every thing to get full root but everytime I end up with that fu** partial root. Is there anybody who can guide me. I had tried following things till now :
1. Installed Factory kJ1 via pc odin.
2. Got full root access in KJ1 GB rom (tested by pasting a file in system folder)
3. Rebooted in recovery.
4. Installed Red pill Abyss kernel.
5. Did all the three wipes in red pill mode.
6. Installed Kingdroid Rom and s3 mod patch via red pill abyss.
7. Booted up in Rom and noticed a partial root.
8. Then flashed Chainfire 5.6 kernel via pc odin.
9. Used remove triangle apk ( succeded in removing triangle)
10. But still that partial root.
11. Then tried to flash cwm.zip via "update from sdcard" mode in CWM but failed to do so. It says no update file available.
12. Then installed the same file via "Select zip from sd card".
13. Did succeded in installing by this method then tried to install SU installer but CWM hangs at "unmounting system".
14. And guess what that fu**ing partial root.
I have tried many times the same methods but still no benefit.
I upgraded using Mobile Odin and I have full root.
When MO loads files, replace kernel with CF-Root 5.6 or any other safe kernel.
Hope it helps.

Edit
----
Read this post before you continue.
As CF said Beware: update.zip's can trigger the bug if they use "format" commands!
This kernel is safe to restore backups and to perform wipe data and factory reset but do not use it to flash custom roms.

Success
Finally succeded in rooting ICS thanks to robbie hood and his method given in Alliance rom forum.
http://ota.alliance-rom.com/ficeto-sgs3-kernel.zip
recovery+kernel for SGS3
fully rooted and insecure (means adb runs as root)
it installs su and busybox if you do not have them (you need Superuser from Play Store)
CWMR Touch binary (all buttons on bottom act as enter!)
supports both CWM and Stock recovery (boots in CWM by default)
includes a script and a tar
use the tar for PDA in Odin (no pit or repartition) if you are on Windows
or use the script to flash with Heimdall if you are on linux/mac (on linux you might need sudo)

Install the zip version of the kernel using recovery not the tar version. You have flashed the tar version from PC Odin thats why you have a yellow triangle
Worked fine for me
I've been hunting for this information for ages having managed to brick my Note trying to install PA - thanks for the info - simple and to the point!
..and yep it worked!

Step-by-step guide: stop using/upgrading a leak, start using the offical JB releases from scratch.
a) Install a JB stock Rom with PC Odin and root it with Phil's Kernel, or
b) Install a Custom Rom from recovery (after installing Phil's Kernel in stock recovery and rebooting into it again)

In XDA developers forum you'll find everything because it has a clear structure of subforums and a fantastic search engine.
One more hint: you are already in one of the subforums you'll need - you'll only have to go one step up and use the two round things near your nose.

Yes. Download philz kernel (zip file) go to recovery flash the zip file. Go back to recovery do the wipes. Download XXLT4 or XXLT5 and put the phone into download mode and flash XXLT4 or 5 using Odin. Once successfull, flash philz kernel again from recovery, you will have root and custom recovery.
Hello everyone, I've just bought my N7000, I used to have a LG P500, then a Xperia Sola, and now my amazing GALAXY NOTE !!!!
I'm reading a lot getting the info needed to get into this device and I find particulary confusing the rooting stuff.
I have found this tutorial by dr.ketan
[24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM
BUT acording to this thread by dr.ketan this method is dangerous.... and he says:
Present option to root ICS ROM is
So present option for rooting is - You can select any of one.
1. Short, easy - requires to reset counter
-Download Odin (.tar) version of custom kernel like Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Flash it using PC odin for PDA tab.
-You will get exclamation mark and raised counter, which can be reset with Triangle Away
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark
-Downgrade to Rootable GB ROM and Root it. OR Download This pre rooted GB ROM and flash using PC Odin
-Wipe cache, data and delvic cache from recovery
-Install Mobile Odin Pro
-Copy ICS ROM file in .tar (you want to flash) to Internal SD card (recommended, but you can have it on EXT too)
-Copy one of custom Kernel in .tar file e.g.Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Open Mobile Odin Pro
-select open file
-Point to ROM file you have copied
-All fiels will popup and feel automatically
-select kernel and point to custom kernel file you have copied
Flash.
Done!

Those threads had 5 months old and my question is
¿What is the updated procedure to root the Note? (SAFE)
by the way I'm running Stock ROM 4.0.4 XXLRT
:good: Thanks
I would suggest u follow the 1.A method in dr.ketan's thread
It is the easiest and safest method to root your phone
I rooted by flashing a zip file.I think there is a site named galaxynoteroot or rootgalaxynote
Anyway, try to find the site.it has video tutorials too
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
as RAj says just flash the Philz kernel for the rom build from stock recovery and you will get rooted after a reboot
What about this option? is it safe?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35512626&postcount=1
DUDE
go to Philz stock kernel thread. download the kernel that corresponds to your phone from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
reboot into recovery by doing the 3 finger salute.
flash it. and then reboot.
you are rooted and on a safe kernel.
simple
