Hi all,
I own a Galaxy Tab P1000 bought in UK and not sim locked.
I bought it in Carphone Warehouse.
Now I wonder if I can install ICS on my Tab.
I know nothing about kernels in general so please do not come up with install this kernel, that kernel.
I have a stock 2.3.3 ROM updated via Kies and I rooted it.
I just want to keep all my features working on my Tab (camera, data, voice and so on) after the upgrade so I am not interested if some stuff is not working.
If these requirements are met I wish you could come up with an upgrade procedure for dummies with the link to all files needed.
Again I know nothing about kernels so please try to explain what I am gonna do.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Federico.
Well, too bad.
Samsung won't make ICS for this tab, so no L
kies update for you.
And yeah, we all will tell you to install a kernel+cwm to flash it.
And no spoon feeding either...
Go to overcome site
Http://www.teamovercome.net
Read the guide,
Missing pictures can be seen here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20974872
Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
You can continue with the rest, and you will get Overcome 4.1 and you won't regret.
From there you can then try AOKP or CM9, all requires you to have Overcome Kernel with its CWM recovery to flash.
Links are easy to find in their individual thread.
Come back here after you have overcome rom, come back here and I am willing to guide you further.

Camera, data, voice call
Yes, both cm9 and AOKP can do that.

I am reading some information. It looks like there are stability problems with custom roms. Endless loops with one. Wifi disconnecting on the other. When I was using a sony ericsson x10 I used to install custom roms. Just all had bugs and I always went back to stock. Thing is that the tab is more complicated and I am not willing to brick it either.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
P.S. Cwm is already installed on my tab. Just not the kernel.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
You need cwm 5.x to be successful I think.
Btw, gtab is quite hard to brick, as long as you didn't screw up the boot loader.

Steps should be to:
- Install GB-stock-safe-v5.zip (Odin) (I have 1.85 is that ok?)
- Install Overcome 4.0.0 Kernel (Odin) (I have 1.85 is that ok?)
- Install Overcome 4.1 ROM wipe (via CWM, should I use wipe or no wipe?)
Once I am done with that I can use CWM to install an ICS ROM if I wish.
I think I got this correctly didn't I?
Ok, I am now lost about which specific ROM to try. CM seems more stable but is there any specific release (more stable) that I should be looking for? Could anyone please link a post to a stable ICS CM release for my tab?
Hello,
Right now, my Galaxy Note is running a rooted version Samsung ICS:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version: 3.0.150N7000XXLPY-CL474507
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPY
I'd like to try CM10, but I've been reading a lot of issues from people flashing ROMs from Samsung ICS. What would be the safest way to install CM10? Should I downgrade to a Samsung Gingerbread ROM first? What procedure would you guys recommend?
Thanks,
Tiago
It is important to downgrade first to samsung stock GB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO93XJ2C8pc&feature=plcp
Follow his instructions to a tee and you should be good to go.
The youtube video is courtesy of aphroditelikesme(all credits to the dude, as I constantly subscribed to his youtube videos)
Don't forget to hit the 'Thank's button if I have helped you in some way or the other.
Thanks a lot!
But should I flash a stock Samsung GB ROM or a rooted GB ROM? Should I use CWM or Odin to flash GB?

you can flash the pre rooted GB rom by Chainfire...then flash the cf kernel....do a full wipe and then just flash CM10. Find the procedure here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
Go to section 1.3 and u find the way....hope it helps....:good:
Flash it to stock GB
here's the other link for the video.. again all courtesy to the creator of that video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc
There's also the links of the ROM (choose checkROM GB or RocketROM) and the kernel you need to download.
Just follow his video bud, (I'm following his video for flashing roms and I never miss going back to this video to downgrade to GB)
Cheers!
I see. So flashing Abyss kernel from Samsung ICS (LPY kernel) using CWM is actually safe? I just want to be sure because I've seen many people advising not to use CWM at all if you are on a Samsung ICS ROM.
abysskernel is not an infected kernel, that is why mostly when your going to downgrade to gingerbread.. most flashers will tell you to flash first to abysskernel then flash the GB rom after.

OK, I flashed Abyss kernel (worked fine), rebooted recovery, made a full wipe, flashed Rocket ROM and rebooted the system. I see the boot animation, but after that, nothing happens (blank screen). I've waited over 5 minutes, but the ROM doesn't boot. Anything else I can try?
I'm f*cking tired of explaining this over and over again...MY GOD!! You could've just read the CM9 installation instructions, CHECKED OUT THE STICKIES, ANYTHING LIKE THAT!
THE ONLY 100% SAFE WAY TO GET RID OF AN INFECTED KERNEL IS TO FLASH TO GB THROUGH PC ODIN!! Why the F*CK does everyone prefer to flash abyss and take that risk...!?
IF!! You're confident that RocketRom flashed correctly, you could probably full wipe (AGAIN) from recovery (you'd be on a safe kernel) and that should solve your problem...
Wait for a 2nd opinion though...

You guys got me worried for a second. I guess I just had a bad download of Rocket ROM after all.

I want to change my android version and i want to install the latest CM9 =)
but i have a question..i have the latest italian version of android
Android Version: 4.0.4
Kernel: 3.0.15 - N7000XXLRI
Baseband: N7000XXLRB
i just bricked it once a few month ago :highfive: but i want the CM9!
I have ROOT!
Q: can i change the OS without dangers to bricked up my phone again?
thanks
Yes, you can but to be 100% safe, I recommend you first downgrade to stock GB and then flash cm9. Using some safe kernel on ics rom will work too, you can find instructions in the particular rom thread.

More customization, speed compared to TW roms, and you are right no stock Samsung apps on CM9.

Hey, im a noob so heres my problem, ive experimented alot on my p1000 and one thing that bothers me alot was the video playback which was either choppy or laggy on CM so ive always restocked it back to GB. I think the solution for this is to use another kernel other than CwM. IS there any other kernels that i could try, the ones that could result in very good hd playback once im on a custom rom?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
First kernel and CWM are two different things CWM is one of the recovery mode.
For HD videos... You can use CM 10 or 9 or give AOKP SGT7 a try.... They are much stable...
Sent from Android
Ok so kernel and cwm are different i get it, but could you tell me how to install the heimdall kernel on p1000 step by step? Ive read from somewhere that it could improve hd video playback. And ive already used cm 9 stable and there is no cm 10 stable yet before but the problem persisted. . .

Heimdall is a tool to flash ROM/kernel.
It is not a kernel. You read wrongly.
Find the same article and read again with the new understanding of what heimdall/kernel/cwm are, and see if you can make out what is that that was recommended.

Yes you're right, I kinda read wrong, the article said about the humberos, now that is a kernel right? I've installed it, and I realized that its a modified version of CwM but the real question is that do I have to keep using the firmware from humberos or could I use other custom roms like SGT7 aokp or Cyanogenmod?
It should be fine using it with other ROMs as long as both are from the same android version
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Humberos is the guy's nickname. His ROM and kernel may also be referred to as Humberos.
But he made kernels back from Gingerbread days.
So we better know which one you flash.
You can use his kernel, for example his JB kernel in, in cm10 and aokp jellybean.
you can use his ICS kernel in AOKP ICS, CM9, and so on.
For CM10.1 it is yet a different kernel.
And it is not just different cwm, the kernel itself is different.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Well ur explanation makes sense, I installed humberos and then humberos's cm 10.1 but the problem was with the camera so I decided to install aokp Sgt7 jb and then the aokp logo goes into boot loop. I then powered off, did the power + volume up and realised that I had installed the cyanogenmld cwm over the humberos. Now what to do?

That's because you installed 4.1.2 ROM with 4.2.1 kernel... It is better for you I'd you restock then update again... And please please please install the ROM with it's kernel because both of them are good AOKP or CM
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Actually from the description, installing aokp sgt7 jb after running cm10.1 should not be an issue as long as you do the 3 wipes (cache, data, dalvik-cache).
aokp sgt7 will replace the cm10.1. But nevertheless, if it is still looping, do the restock.
They are all using CWM 6.x nowadays, it doesn't really matter, but the kernel has to be for the right ROM.
BTW, too many people think cm10.1 is just a little update from cm10.
It is not. It is a completely new framework. Treat it as a different ROM.
So all I gotta do is restock back to GB, root GB, install the humberos cm 10 kernel from SD after wiping everything, and then install aokp Sgt 7 or cm 10 right?

ok well ive flashed the overcome kernel and then I flashed the overcome 4.1 aka the overcome experience and its actually quite fantastic. On my way to flash JB from CM. btw do I have to register the divx licenses? as well as other licenses?
ok im using overcome 4.1.0 and its fabulous. but before I go towards JB, can someone pls explain how to wipe the 3 caches using the overcome kernel, since its quite new to me? also when flashing to cm jb, do I have to clear the caches and then install from internal sd card? Is that how I upgrade it, not clean install it?
ok so I flashed aokp and the big problem is that it installs cwm over the overcome kernel and so the video problem still persists. Isnt there a way to remove the cwm recovery from the aokp rom?
You got it all wrong.
in P1000, recovery is included in the kernel.
Overcome kernel has cwm 5.0
Aokp kernel and cm kernel has cwm 6.0.
Wipe cache and wipe data are there in main menu of cwm.
Wipe dalvik cache is in Advanced menu.
You have overcome ROM 4.1, boot to cwm and flash aokp a few times until it is done, then flash gapps.
Reboot.
There is never a need to remove cwm. Where do you read such idea?

I didn't read it, I just thought about it. Anyhow, I flashed aokp a few times just like you said, and flashed gapps (obviously), but result is still the same. I'll post a video ASAP on the video playback performance that I'm still complaining about...

It is not logical to link it to gapps or cwm.

If u read, flashing from froyo or GB need to go through da step from CM7 (stock GB) > CM9 (ICS flash twice as phone memory repartition) > CM10/10.1 (JB also flash twice)
