I have the rooted ROM (4.1.1 LJL) from Tyxerakias.
i want to install BenzROM v4, which is wipe now.
If i have understood correctly, in order to restore my apps+data as they were, i must use Titanium Backup, right?
Can i do sth else so i can restore the settings easier?
My phone is COA, i assume i can install BenzROM , uh?
If u are on Romania rom yes u can install Benzrom v4.

You can also backup your data via TWRP or CWM recovery. I prefer TWRP cause it's easier for me.
I guess your ROM is already rooted, right?
It would be helpful if you make the 4.1 non-wipe,
but how can this cause problems with some apps?

I just installed 4.1 nowipe .
At first no problem, but as i was placing apps in the first screens ,
suddenly the orientation of the apps at the bottom line changed to vertical.
After i restarted the device , the changes i have made were not saved.
Tried again some changes and after restart they were not saved as well.
What's happening?

Unless you are already on the same firmware basis as the ROM you intend to install, most of your applications will not work after the upgrade.
Use titanium backup (from the market) to backup your apps and restore them after upgrading

I allready used Titanium Backup but you still have to apply everything (must click install on start of installation of an app).
I have downgraded from JPY to JPX with Odin and forgot to click re-partition but everything still works and I had no force closes.
Could it work if I just apply a JPY ROM without WIPE?
PS: I'm on JPX now.

Some ROMs are compatible for apps but there is no guarantee that it works both ways and that in fact all your apps still work. You can try. the worst thing that can happen is that you will have to factory reset/wipe dalvik cache when you find incompatibilities.

you dont have to do it that way.
you can use batch-mode for titanium which automates your desired processes
Yeah I've did it like that but there is still this "you want to install..." dialog where you have to click "OK"

FrnZ a noob here
My Qus IS that i want to upgrade my current rom
as a example i have an GINGERDX V021 installed in my W8
and i want to upgrade it to V022 without the full wipe
i mean my msgs, apps, etc must not be removed in upgrading...
If you just update the rom form cwm or xrecovery the data in your system won't be affected. It won't erase your apps sms calls etc. Of course if You do not do a full wipe, but I don't think so.
If You are currently in GDX and want to upgrade for a newer version there won't be data loss. If you are concerned just do a backup from cwm or xrec before upgrade (this is adviseable always). If something goes wrong there is a backup then.
Forget one little thing:
If you use a2sd or sd-ext trhere could be problems, the update must use the same method.

WHAT can be happen with app2sd n if sumthing wrong happen what should i DO ?
There wouldn't be any problem with app2sd. It will only happen if you did something wrong. I first used GingerDX on v018. Then to 19, to 20, to 21, to 22. No problem with that at all.
Hit the THANKS button if I helped!!

Dear All,
please guide me to update my X8 having Gingerdx v022 to v025 without loosing applications installed. Does doing full wipe delete my data and application ? Also how to update CWM with the update ?
I updated from 22 to 25 without a full wipe. went fine and phone is faster and more responsive.. I dont have that many apps installed though. Just boot to CWM and install zip from location. reboot and you're away.
If you do hit problems just go back into to CWM and do a full wipe..
You need full reinstall , gdx v22 is cm7.1 and the v25 is cm7.2......

Full wipe is recomended because of different ROM bases. (CM7.1 and CM7.2)

To answer your question:
You can always use Titanium Back-up from the market to back up all user apps and data stored with them.
When you upgrade from v22 to v25, as Adrian said, it's a different version of CM, therefor, one must full wipe for better results. No one said it wouldn't work well without wiping, but it's just better to do it.
After installing and wiping, simply download titanium back up again, and restore your back-ups...that's how i do it.
Hope this helps...
Hello guys
I'm new here and in the endless world of Android, so please forgive me if you think that my question is stupid. I've already tried to find a solution inside the forum but there is always some part that I can't really understand..
You've said that v025 has cm7.2. Does this mean that if I want to install this version I need to first install cm7.2? Or is it included with the gingerdx v025 and I just have to do the things that you've already explained?
Besides, is there anything else to do before I install the zip file?
It's the third time that I block my phone and miraculously restore it to the v022, so I'd prefer not to make another big mistake..
Hope my English is good, and thank you all

Yeah welcome and for your question have you tried using the search button and reading the rom thread? Not only did you revive an old useless thread, you also asked a very simple question.
I'm sorry for being hard but this is better then giving you answers and making you think you can be lazy and can ignore searching and reading.

@madamemim: it's simple.
1. make a nandroid backup to be safe.
2. install cwm
3. dl the gdx (for stock) version you want save it on your sdcard
4. reboot to cmw
5. full wipe, clear cache, dalvik, etc.
6. flash your new rom
i'm assuming you know how to use cwm since you already flashed a custom rom.

Was wondering if it is safe to restore NAND backup that was made with CM9 on CM9 recovery?
1st i installed CM9
2nd i made backup
3th i want to change DPI but if something goes wrong can i back up via CM9 or do i have to flash GB and CM9 and start again?
I heard that CM9 is "safe"
I'm wondering too, since I wanted to try MIUI (based on CM9) from CM9, and was thinking of doing a backup if MIUI doesn't do it for me.
My guess is that it's "safe", since once you installed CM9 with the proper instructions (from GB and all), you have a proper CWM, buuuut a second opinion would help.

True that. Well at least BackUp went fine but still have no balls to try restore it. And was wondering also that should i install abyssrecovery (red touch) or can i use stock CWM on CM9...

In my opinion it's safe guys. The problem with the procedures in CWM was mostly caused by Wipes. Also the cf-root kernel was definitely something to be afraid.
Therefore in CM9s' CWM there's nothing harmful.

Well, since MIUI didn't flash (I need to look more into this), I grabbed my balls and tried the whole backup + restore thing, with the "stock" CWM.
And it all went fine. No loss of data, booting up into CM9 like before, all set.
So it's safe.

Good to know. Luckily i dont need to use it yet coz romtoolbox dpi cjange went fine and os booted normally and dpi was changed
Am on criskelo 11.2 with speedmod kernel 3.13.
All is fine, it appears I have root (titanium etc works) and a check with 'got root' returns an ok response.
The phone is behaving itself nicely and is nice and smooth.
The problem comes when I try and do a nandroid backup using cwm.
It gets a liitle way in and then freezes (forever!)
Things I've tried to cure this...
1) Rolling back to stock GB and then re-rooting, then full 3 wipes, then reinstall criskelo rom.
2) Rolling back to a pre-rooted GB rom, then all 3 wipes, then re-install croskelo
2) Flashing other kernels, notecore etc
3) Installing superuser 3.1.1.zip with cwm and its binary update.zip
4) Installing SuperSU app from play store - it says needs to update binaries, and when I try it just says 'installation failed!'
5) Installing superuser app from play, this time when I try and update binaries it does helpfully say ' remounting /system as rw... fail!'
which leads me to believe this is a root problem, even though no other app is complaining.
6) doing a search on this forum (before you all tell me to do this!)
I have been trying to solve this for over a week now, and it feels like I have read everything on this forum but I may have missed something.
Can anybody steer me in the right direction please?
Maybe you dont need a nandroid backup, it doesnt backup efs anyway.
Could be a kernel issue, or space issue. Not sure.

may I ask what you use to backup then, when you change rom?

which one is the latest then, and how do I install it, would it be an update zip?

I am a heavy flasher and prevent issues caused by restores to get a clean taste of roms. Nandroids I tried, but I havent found a rom I wanted to go back on always, flash so much that it just takes to long.
Efs with a tool in one if my threads, suggestion by Chasmodo. DrKetan has a good toolbox thread in general section.
I manually backup photos and such with a file explorer. Calander/Contacts/email in gmail,
whatsapp and special app stuff also manually transfer folder from sdcard and back.
Messages I dont care for. Neither made calls list.
Occasionally I do restore app if dissapeared from market with Titanium, but only app, not data. I save backups on external. Cause I clean sdcard also.

The latest version for Note N7K is 6.0.1.2.. chek the below link... download option is there
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/
jonny, i feel your problem is due to partial root.
could you copy files into system in root explorer ?
did adaway work in applying hosts file ?
for criskelo rom too you should choose CF root kernel during the flashing process, then later you may change to your preference
Thanks baz & nokia, much appreciated.
I am running PA 1.99 now and it has the new cwm (you can tell because it has a grey background now!)
And rraaka, you are correct, I cannot copy anything to system
Not sure how I can get full root back though, I have used Dr Ketans rooting tool many times to try and cure this issue as well as flashing pre-rooted GB roms with Odin.
Not sure what else I can do.
But am starting to agree with baz now, I can do without nandroid (it takes ages anyway) and just use titanium to restore.
Everything is working fine with my partial root (except nandroid) anyway so not sure I care anymore!
Am enjoying Paranoid Android by the way, JB is fun.
I do miss the samsung apps though, I don't suppose those have been jellybeaned yet??
nope not yet, nothing Touchwizz like spen etc.
There is a cwm flashable of samsung apps that works pretty good on cm9, not sure if it works on cm10 or jb.
gaining full root shouldnt be to difficult, update binaries and then you know for sure.
The one that has worked wel for me is the ssu only zip from this post but then again thats on stock stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841288
For custom roms/kernels the ones supplied with it are build in to work out of the box.
Once fully clean install, a nandroid can work but thats fully clean

Thanks baz, am going to go back to the start (stock ICS) and try that link to try and get my full root back, looks interesting.
Ok, I have full root again now!
here's what I think I remember what I did...
Downloaded the first two Su & busybox zips using method1 on the link that Baz kindly shared with me and popped them on my sd card ready.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794
Downloaded and flashed the latest UK Carphone Warehouse stock ICS rom with odin.
Rebooted to stock recovery - applied update zip - flashed first the SU and then Busybox zips downloaded earlier.
Rebooted phone to check all was ok.
Located superSU app and ran it to check - and first it said it didn't recognise my phone model, hmmm...
So I downloaded mobile odin from play and flashed abyss 4.2 kernel
Rebooted to recovery, full 3 wipes and rebooted system.
Ran superSU again and magically it updated binaries and for the first time in 2 weeks it said 'sucessful', I was very pleased!
Rebooted to recovery and flashed Criskelo 11.2 again (have gone back to this from PA until things are a bit more stable)
Restored all my apps from TB all good.
Checked Adaway and it was more than happy to replace host file, and root explorer is also happy.
Cool
