Hi everyone, did anyone tried XZ's GPS indoor before? I tried to check-in foursquare or facebook and use my camera with geotagging but it seems it can't detect my location when I use indoor. My phone was connected to data and wifi, I understand that Wifi is supposed to increase the GPS accuracy. My iphone 4s and friend's samsung galaxy note II detect my location shortly. Anyone help?
GPS can't locate you indoor.
Use location by network or WiFi for indoor.
You can find it in setting at location services

I had that issue and it took a factory reset to get it working for me.
Some have mentioned clearing the cache for google maps can help so try that first.

I noticed that my captivate will often show both the wifi icon and 3g icon in my screen at the same time. I am using wifi to post this but 3g still shows up. This never happened in my nexus one or milestone. This also happens on multiple wifi networks for me. Any ideas?

Some apps use your 3G connection to get a rough fix on your location (Beautiful widgets "Beautiful home" or weather bug) there's a lot more. You can usually turn that off and just put in your zipcode. I could be wrong, just a shot in the dark.
I get this too

This doesn't seem right to me. I don't get why it would have both, there is no reason for it. If I reboot my phone, it will just show one or the other but over time it creeps back to showing both. I think its a software problem.
I am also wondering about the wifi. How do you know it's using wifi instead of 3g? Does it automatically switch over to wifi whenever it connects to one?

Thats the thing, I have seen it say I am on wifi but it still shows the 3G indicator and will show 3G activity (the activity arrows on the 3G icon light up).

It might be because you have no apps trying to find your location all the time. That's why some people have 3g on sometimes with their wifi on and some don't.

Well I wish I knew what that was then, because I do have Beautiful Widgets but I also have always had geolocation disabled and have my zip code set in it.
My husband's captivate will show both wifi and 3G when he opens google maps and the only way to get ride of the 3G is to restart the phone.
I'm having the same issue and using "my settings" to disable 3G use while using wifi. Being that I'm on the very limited data plan, I'd rather not have 3G being used when it doesn't have to be. So, if there are some programs that are forcing access to 3G when I'm on wireless, I'd like to know if there's an app or somesuch that will track which programs are accessing this so I don't have to worry about changing settings all of the time?
Hello everyyone. Ive only been using this phone and android since yesterday afternoon. I played with the phone very extensively yesterday and never saw the 3g while i was on wifi and then last night i applied the gps "fix" do you think that could of caused it to show. did all who is having this problem apply the gps fix ?
I believe using a push syncing service like exchange will cause this. on my windows mobile phones exchange wouldn't work over wifi.
Hmm is the default mail app an exchange like server ? So I should pull my info from that one and soley use the gmail app?

My problem showed up after this as well, but I can't imagine that would be the cause of it...
I'm seeing both Wifi and 3G on as well. Oddly enough, only Wifi seems to be on after it sits for a night (both charging and just unplugged). As soon as I disabled Wifi, 3G came back on, but after reenabling Wifi, the 3G stayed on.
As far as I can tell with 3G Watchdog, it's not using 3G when they're both on, but I'm worried that battery life is impacted by having them both on. I'm assuming this isn't normal behavior then.
FYI, I also applied the GPS fix, but I think I was seeing them both on even before I did that.
I get this as well, even when not using maps. I noticed it before I did the gps fix.
I do use gmail app which uses push, but still WIFI should always take over once connected. I noticed though that on the 3G icon the upload/download arrows are grey, not white or red (the transmit/receive colors).
I was concerned at first but I installed the AT&T app and I don't have a lot of data usage. I think its a bug.
I had both icons as well for a couple of days while in a wifi area. Messed with the gps settings again today and I'm back to wifi only icon. Didn't even reboot.

Hi guys
I have problem with 3G connection through application, but wifi is fine. All that I can do through 3G connection is go on a internet browser and surf. But if I open some application which uses the internet so do not connect..
How I said through wifi is everithing fine, but through 3g is not.
I tried wipe, factory reset and clear cache from but nothink helped...
Goto -> Settings -> Wireless Networks -> Mobile Network -> APN
Is there anything there?
If there is find the settings for your carrier and double check them
re:
Yes, of course there is configuration for 3G work... I said in a internet browser I can surf, but I can't use internet through apps as gmail, market etc...
Can it bee that the network provider has somesort of problem with the network or the gmail and market servers they are using is down. Once i have gmail problem but that wasn't the phones fault The server Google used was down with somesort of problem. Must say that strange problems ppl has with they phone if connection via wifi works but not 3g? Then it must be fault in settings or fault i the network.

Yeah a little bit :-D
1.yes I am sure
2.you are more smarter
3.because thats same problem have many users
4.I am not crying bro
I have a similar problem.
If the phone is only on wi-fi connection, gmail, internet, market, daily briefing (accuweather) and maps are working fine. If I switch the wi-fi off and switch APN on, only the market works.
how's that?
When I'm home and my phone is connected to my wifi. The GPS locks very fast to accurate to 20 meters. That's where the problem is.
It shows the little triangle and the blue circle on Google maps. But I'm not in that blue circle!! I'm like 10 meters away from the edge of the blue circle. Anyone know how to fix this??

You can use wireless networks, gps satellites, or assisted gps for location. Each im sure has a different amount of accuracy. It might not hurt to calibrate your compass either. I think the wireless setting is for showing your location in maps and at street level. If you go to settings>location and security, you can try switching to one of the other settings but you need a sky view for the satellite setting. Only check one.

Well that's not the problem... I'm not even in the blue circle that it indicates..

Hello forum! I'm having an annoying issue with my I9070: when I connect to my domestic wireless LAN the cellphone regularly accesses the Web and web-based apps work fine. But if I leave the phone inactive for, say, 10 minutes, it won't be able to access internet sources. The strange thing is that it still reports being connected to the LAN: to regain the connection I have to turn off the Wifi and turn it on again.
This is annoying because those apps that work in background can't actually access Internet and thus won't function regularly!
I've looked for solutions on the Net: I found that Android phones have troubles with WPA-PSK-protected wireless networks, such as mine; I found suggestions regarding the code *#001#* to access a debug screen where to turn off Wifi sleep mode (but for heaven's sake, I couldn't be able to find this goddamn option!); somebody suggested to switch to static IPs on the phone, to no avail.
If it can help, I have an unrooted phone with Gingerbread 2.3.6.
Try to go to Settings - Wi-fi - Advanced - Wifi always on > there check always.
I hope it helped

Yep, the setting was already checked.
I can't seem to understand if the problem is in the router or in my smartphone. Hope it's not an hardware issue.

Do you have some battery boost application installed or something else what could affect turning wireless off? If you have, try to uninstall it.

Only battery related app is Battery Widget from Elvison, and it's just a widget showing me the charge left. Don't think it could be the problem, it doesn't feature any battery saving or battery boost function.
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem, but I only have this using my home Wifi.
Looking for a solution also!
EDIT: Do you have this everywhere but also just at one specific place or router?
What brand is your router?

Sorry for the delay of my answer.
I noticed that this happens at my girlfriend's house too, and also her wireless network is protected via WPA-PSK.
My brand of router is Sitecom, while my girlfriend's is DLink.
I'm using a sitecom at home too.. Guess the problem is more in the router than on the phone.
I've already been through the routers setting but unable to find anything..

always on wifi is a feature of 4.3 for data saving.go to wifi in setting and press menu key and in advanced seting turn it off
Same here. Already tried deactivating all the options in the advance setting. Will monitor if it will still persist.
Maybe you have installed "Battery Guru" / "DU Battery Saver". I don't remember which one of them was turning on my wifi (I'm almost sure it was "Battery Guru", though). So if this is your case, look for those apps settings and turn on the option that allows them to turn on wifi.

It could be an app that you have installed that you have given permission to activate WiFi with out noticing?
All types of apps ask for this kind of permission, not just power management apps.
Do you have bad signal in your house? Maybe it's reverting to mobile data due to bad signal? Mine does it in some parts of my house.
Edit : I'm talking about wifi signal

No, that wasn't it
This is the settings you want in BatteryGuru to stop the wifi turning on and off randomly.
Hey Guys , I found a solution to this problem .
Go to settings> WiFi> advanced . Then untick "Scanning always available" . This would solve the problem .
I would like to point out that Sony support team was replying useless software repair emails as solution to this . Kindly understand problem and reply accordingly .
there are some apps that can turn your wifi, like viber. for viber go to settings, general and there you should the wifi setting
