The question should be addressed to the author, he'd know the best. But as he reffered to zeppelinrox regarding this matter, it might be assumed that improvements are regarding charger and launcher. Zeppelinrox describes these changes like features that "makes your phone fast, super snappy with better multitasking".

... here come the roms! ...

thank's for shared...!!!!!

sorry but I've got a problem...
I've the pi-llama 0.2, downloaded the 0.3, unzipped and copied the directory to clockwork mod/backup under "root/data/media/".
booted the phone into CWM 6.0.1.9, BACKUP AND RESTORE, RESTORE, can't open directory and file not found message comes.
It doesn't work with "INSTALL FROM SD CARD" using the ZIP file neither

Hello,
Tested and adopted !
All is perfectly working !
Enjoy !

My question might be a bit too silly, but I've had an LG Optimus Black and the more you tweaked it, the better it got. However, it started to fade because of the Overclock, gps-wise and 3g-wise, everything was getting really dark. So, I decided to buy once and only an SGS3 and it died 3 days later, it literally died, nobody knows why. It IS a good phone, batter lasts about 8hs, and has a lot of power. It lags, which i didn't expect and it does not perform as well on wi-fi as a true quad core should perform. My point is: whatever it is that you do, the RAZR i does it just so fast, so good, it is like a train, maybe not the fastest and not the biggest but the most efficient. Does this phone get EVEN better by rooting/flashing custom ROMs? I'm starting to think that it just won't. The hardware seems to be polished at its maximum and working in perfect harmony.

Hi,
In my opinion it gets better if it is rooted as there are some apps I use like Titanium Backup or Root explorer. Currently I do not see a need to flash a custom rom for some reasons. The phone is fast, stable and the battery lasts for at least 2 days however the architecture is x86 as you probably know. This could be the reason why the phone is not in focus of devs. Nevertheless there is the first custom rom.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191769
Whatever you do, if the phone is running ICS and you are planning to upgrade to JB I recommend to do this first.

Can anyone provide screenshot of the rom please

You got a point. It really doesn't get faster, because its already fastest as it could be. But this ROM gave me a better battery performance, and the fact that it its deodexed gives us more liberty to tweak around. But it isn't a must, like in other devices, have a custom ROM to get a good performance. Whit RAZR i its just a choice...

Custom brightness coming soon...
Just a quick heads up regarding the brightness settings in this rom: it uses the standard brightness curves, which are far too bright.
I am working on new brightness curves for this rom, which I have working on my phone, and I will make them available very soon.
In the meantime, do not flash my modified framework-res.apk (from Matt's thread) on this rom: the mountpoint settings are different, and it work at all you will likely lose access to the internal storage.

I think the same... I'm a newbie, but I had HTC one S, Motorola Atrix 4g, this one is winning talking about battery and performance all around. I would have appreciated a better camera, but that's it. I really enjoy it, missing just some custom rom for playing a bit with, but Max Choco's has started this way for this great toy.
Thank you...

[MINIGUIDE][CM7|Stock] V6 Supercharger for the 2x (Smoothness & Snappyness)

.
Attention: This guide is for an older version of the V6 SuperCharger.
This doesn't mean that you can not use this guide as a reference or interesting read, but the new script has some more options which aren't covered here. You have to read the instructions within V6 carefully.
I did a lot of testing some weeks ago and now that I finally have some time I'd like to share what I got so far.
The V6 Supercharger is a tweak skript by zeppelinrox which works really great on my 2x. It feels smoother and snappier than ever - and multitasking is damn fast (and I never felt that CM7.2 was unsnappy.. but there is a difference now).
I won't talk a lot about what it is and how it does work - read the original thread. It has an even better effect on low spec phones, but it does improve the snappyness on high-end phones, too (and is even used on Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Nexus phones!)
[Script][MOD][U9RC6.1] Sticky 'n Smooth ISCream-=V6 SUPERCHARGER!=-The ONLY RAM Fixer
All credits go to zeppelinrox for this great script!
Here's a quote for what it does:
zeppelinrox said:
What's it do?
It makes your phone FAST... super snappy with better multitasking!
It rearranges and fixes the OOM Groupings and Priorites and lowmemorykiller values.
So basically, it's a COMPLETE MEMORY MANAGEMENT FIX!
It's the ONLY one of it's kind
NO LAUNCHER REDRAWS, faster than ever, multitasking is better... why?
Because it works with the lowmemorykiller and letting it work the way it's meant to work.

Warnings:
This is not for ICS! Go to the 2nd post in the thread linked above - there are instructions for ICS (CM9) - I don't use CM9 yet and don't want to include instructions here, which I haven't tested thoroughly.
You shouldn't use this with custom kernels (like vadonkas) I guess - it might break some tweaks from the kernel devs.
I tested this with CM7.2 (temasek KANG) with the stock CM-kernel and it is working GREAT! It should make an even greater difference on Stock - please report!
I tested lots of options and never had a single problem.. but you should do a nandroid backup! There is always a slight chance that something goes wrong.

Instructions:
(type all options without quotes.. I hope that's obvious)..
Go to Settings - Cyanogenmod - Performance and make sure that "Lock home in memory" is not checked. If it is: uncheck it and restart (don't worry, the tweak will take over with a better solution than a permanent lock in memory).
Download the "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update9_RC6.1.sh.txt" from the original thread or from the attachments here and put it to the root directory of your SD card.
Open "Terminal Emulator"
Type "su" (and approve the Superuser request)
Type "cd /sdcard"
Type "sh V6*" (this is cAsE-sensitive)
The first time "wizard" will guide you through the installation process.
for the scrolling speed "2" is a good choice for the first time
type "b" for the build.prop option
type "y" to integrate /init.rc
I disabled the "AWESOME" animation (type "y") because it would get annoying after waiting for it to finish after the 3rd time.. sorry for that zeppelinrox
press the enter key
now type "10" (Quick V6 Custo-OOMizer option)
type "y" to use the calculated values
press enter twice
type "29" to reboot and wipe dalvik cache. The restart will take a while, be patient, that's normal!
that's it!

There's a "quick walkthrough" in the second post - together with the best options (at least for me) for the older update 8.
Again: All credit to zeppelinrox - he has a donation link in his thread! If you like it, donate to him please
Quick walkthrough - commands only (update 9 RC6.1):
("type Enter key" or "type any key" not mentioned)
Code:

sh /sdcard/V6*

Instructions for the "older" update 8:
Go to Settings - Cyanogenmod - Performance and make sure that "Lock home in memory" is not checked. If it is uncheck it, restart the device and recheck
(don't worry, the tweak will take over - I didn't have a single launcher redraw).
Download the "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-update8.sh.txt" from the original thread or from the attachments here and put it to the root directory of your SD card.
Open "Terminal Emulator"
Type "su" (and approve the Superuser request) (without quotes.. I hope that's obvious)
Type "cd /sdcard"
Type "sh V6*" (this is cAsE-sensitive)
Type "0", "1", "2", or "3" to set how fast the text will scrool. "2" is a good selection for the first time.
Choose "9"
Type "16" (your device will restart without further warning!)

Sorry.. I wrote that because I pressed "Submit New Thread" accidentally before the post was ready. It's up now
there is already a update 9, which works perfect on the speed, but I don't see great improvements between Chuck Norris Edition with and without V6. Think Chuck Norris is already so awesome.
P.S: really easy to set up, just download Script Manager from the Market, open it, click on SU and open up this Script, everything else will be explained through the MENU
Has anyone tested this with the latest vadonka's ETaNa yet?
I know it's not ready yet, but I'm already psyched about it :-D
I already have a question about it.
If I run this skript is it suggested to change minfree values?
I have mine set on 16-24-32-90-100-110 right now. Thats pretty heavy I think, but Setiron suggested those values.

Yup but update 9 is still a RC. I know it's pretty stable but haven't tested it yet, will do that over the weekend and update the instructions if everything works fine.
You're correct - the Chuck Norris ROM does use a lot of tweaks, too - this is mainly focused to non-tweaked CM7 and Stock ROMs
Great... I include always it in my rom...

Wow, thanks very much, my device feels superfast right now!
Do i have to repeat this procedure everytime i flash an cm update, e.g. a kang?
this script only advantage the bulletproof/hard to kill launcher for as, but since the o2x is a highend phone the launcher reload fast, probably dont even noticed that and if you have a memory hungry launcher probably not a bad thing if this is not stuck in the memory, so its not really necessary this. bulletproof the launcher is good thing in an old phone like moto milestone (this script originally made for that phone by the way)
the memory management is not so good, the autokiller memory optimizer app do a much better memory management and its user friendly.
also this script minfree values is not optimized for the o2x.
I'd rather not use overall, but its your choice guys

I cannot agree in all points.
First of all V6 won't lock the launcher in memory (unlike the CM method!).
Then it will tweak more aspects in terms of memory management than just the "harder to kill launcher" - more on that in the official post. Last but not least - the phone is a highend one, but it lacks some memory (1GB would have been great). And it seems that it does help quite a lot, here.
But of course you're correct that it might not be the "best of all" solutions for the 2x - but I can feel quite a difference while using V6. For Stock LG and CM7 it seems to be a good enhancement - I don't mind if people here use it or not, I'm really happy with this solution right now. Just thought might be worse sharing as there are many threads for V6 for other phones (even the SGS II!!), but not for the 2x.
Just my 2 cents.
P.S.: I havent tested your newest kernel with the tweak scripts - maybe it will even blow me away more if the values are more optimized for the 2x

btw I'm sure you are totally unfamiliar with the newest incarnations where the values are calculated according the ram available on any device.
SO IT"S ALWAYS OPTIMIZED FOR THE DEVICE IT'S RUNNING ON.
If anything, bulletproof is BETTER suited for devices with more ram - since they can more easily do this without detrimental effects since they do have more ram.
Nothing you say adds up.
look, your script working superb on my old milestone, when i write this post what you quoted here i had the milestone not the o2x. but with o2x honestly i dont think its necessary to tweak so many memory management part. the phone have enough memory to handle most of everything and have a fast dual core processor.
i use only this:
echo 0,1,2,4,6,15 > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/adj
echo 1536,2048,4096,15360,17920,20480 > /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree
i dont see the point of the other stuffs
lock the launcher in the memory is also not necessary, its reloaded fast i dont even noticed that every time.
but its just my opinion
ps: you are using this file in many procedures: rcpath="/system/etc/rootfs/init.mapphone_umts.rc"
this isn't exsist in the o2x rom.
for example:
sed -i '/ro.EMPTY_APP_ADJ/ a\
setprop ro.FOREGROUND_APP_MEM '$SL1 $rcpath
this is only work if the rcpath=/system/etc/build.prop and cut out the 'setprop' string (/data/local.prop also not good for as). i also found some code what is not working with the o2x rom. the whole script is for the droid/milestone's. at least what i found in this thread OP
Try the newest one

init.mapphone_umts.rc isn't even mentioned.
Instead, it does a search for the appropriate file.
It's vastly more sophisticated than Update 8 in all aspects.
The 0,1,2,4,6,15 is kinda useless... no different really than the default 0,1,2,4,7,15
There is a fairly new supercharger thread for the new Galaxy Note... they see a clear difference.
So you really won't ever know until you try

Hey zeppelinrox, do you recommend to change minfree values when using the v6 script?
I'm running CM9 with Ironkernel and mine are set to 16-24-32-90-100-110, but I think thats a little extreme. Setiron suggested those values, because ICS needs more ram.

ICS on G Note - any objective reviews?

HI
Can anyone point me to an objective review of Samsung Stock ICS on the G Note?
There seem to be lots of conflicting reports. I would like to know
- Is the battery life really worse or is it just that a battery calibration procedure needs to be done?
- Does the 'Possible bricked device if reset done' problem applies to all roms or NOT?
- How much better are the S-Pen apps?
- What are the functional improvements - E.g. Better camera tap to focus?, Smoother / faster graphics?
- What exactly is worse compared to GB (Gingerbread) ?
Thanks
differences between GB and ICS are many and make the best use of daily ICS .. the battery is sufficient to calibrate here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765609 .. .. , spenn the app does not work with all cooked rom.. The rotation has improved in this latest update, devices, improved screen rotation, multitasking seems faster and there have been improvements to the application of the screen, multitasking seems faster and there have been improvements to the application of the camera. Most of the changes are not immediately visible and are very specific, but make ICS camera. Most of the changes are not immediately visible and are very specific, but make ICS an operating system more complete, smooth and satisfying. A video of pocketnow shows us all the news.
Battery better?
noob here, but dun quite see that installing ice cream sandwich helps with battery life...
this is wat happened to my battery life...any any input anyone?
the long gap of inactivity in Screen is when i was sleeping, but even after closing all apps, off wifi, off data, off bluetooth, my battery went from 70% to 40% over 1 night, in less than 8 hours...wats going on?
coming from bricking
I had a bad experience installing RR5...Bricked the phone ..unbricked using ketang method.. using different pit on odin 1.85 flashing stock rom...
Now I'm on RR6 ..but lost about 4GB of internal memory... note is smooth and fast... and I'm about to flash speedmode 3.3...
Coming from Darkyrom gingerbrad... few things are missing... the most important one is the launcher on landscape mode...
Installed emmc check which stated my chip to be insane but the sectors i use to be OK.
We live and learn
(by the way I did follow all the instruction for a full wipe)...

For me, battery life is no different. Some people have reported worse battery, but I'm not sure if this is down to the ICS install or something else.

AFAIK, all Samsung ICS roms have the potential to cause the eMMC bug and brick your device when a factory reset/full wipe is done.

Functionally, ICS on the Note is incredibly similar to GB. The TouchWiz UI and framework are identical, which is a shame as from a usability perspective it doesn't feel like an update. The only functional improvements imo are a better range of options in the Settings app and the ability to install ICS only apps (like Chrome beta).

I think ICS isn't as snappy as GB, especially with widget scrolling in social hub and agenda.
Thanks Nos0x - I do use the S-Pen apps but I would like significant improvements there.
I think I'll stick with GB for now.

Just installed my first rom!

With the help of my sisters bf we rooted and flashed the Synergy rom on my Bionic last night. I have to say it was pretty simple. Main reason for doing it was extended battery life, smoother operation, and free wifi tethering. Now since Im a complete newb. How do I go about customizing my phone a little more? Such as themes and so on?
Also whats some apps that I should get now that I am rooted (besides titanium backup)?
Congrats! I just installed my first Rom the other day as well. I had been waiting for a while because I was going to be due for an upgrade in a couple months, but it kept lagging so bad I couldn't take it anymore. Now I'm running the ICS based Blurry Maxx v3.8 ROM. I had been upgrading that to the 4.1.2 version but every time I did I ended up with problems and lag so I just decided to stay on v 3.8. Being ICS based and not kernal on kernal I have fully functioning camera and bt. I made a few mods to the battery icon (made him a little android andy) and to the toggle widgets you get on the drop down. As well I was able to chance my drop down and boot animations. I don't know how I lived before this it's SO much faster. Good luck and happy modding!
http://www.dropbox.com/s/65e0uudeefbjw3a/BlurryMaxx.png
Where do I download that kinda stuff?
Also I was reinstalling all my apps I had on my phone previously but now it says their is insufficient app space. Why isn't there enough space?
How big did you make the partition? You should usually do about 2gb/partition to have enough room for apps and stuff. Try getting a program like app to sd and moving as much as you can onto an sd card, that might free up some space. As far as the icons and stuff go I combined two flashable packs, one for the battery and one for the toggle widgets i liked and put them into a new systemui.apk Also I changed the background picture while doing this. I'm new to romming so i'm not sure if this would brick your rom and cause you to have to reinstall it as they systemui is for blurry maxx rom. I would assume it would be a problem. Also if you're not very computer savy I had to decompile and recompile the apk after editing, install, move to new folder, change permissions, then rename it. Kind of labor intensive and took me a couple reflashes to get it all right if you know what I mean. I can post the flashable update if you want to try to use it but be warned it may not work. Also send me a picture you would like to use for the drop down and I'll add that in there as well. Unless you like the one I have then I can send you the file in the morning. Happy flashing!

I have recently upgraded from my 3yr old beloved HD2, the most amazing device ever to play with to Motorola Atrix HD which is THE ONLY Motorola device that is compatible with Tmobile 3G and of course 4G since it support 1700 bandwidth along with 1800 and 2100. Anyways...as I was playing with this phone like rooting, installing apps and removing ATT bloatware....I wanted to share some of the things with you all. I hope you find it useful......
-If you want your phone to be rooted....My first advice is not to upgrade this phone to Jelly Bean as it is harder to root it with JB than it is with ICS. I have used every single Android version in my good old HD2 and I can tell you this there is not any striking difference between these to versions as I have used both and using ICS was better to play with for me...what really made me mad was that my purchased Copilot live 8 app does not recognize my purchased Svox US Grace tts anymore...it did in ICS ...Again, I am not a developer, and developers may argue otherwise
-If you willfully or accidentally upgraded to JB please follow this thread(courtesy of DAN ) for rooting instructions...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143437
It make may not be a very simple for some of you but be patient, read all the posts and keep trying and you will succeed. This is the only option to root Atrix HD with JB and unfortunately there is no way you can rollback to ICS to get the easy root. For instructions on rooting Atrix HD ICS see here(Also THANKS to DAN )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940594
Without rooting you can't really do much to make your device more efficient....since all utility apps require root access!!!
Now, if you are rooted......AND you have stock ICS or JellyBean....follow my tips if you will, you will see more efficiency in terms app fluidity and power saving....
-Install System App Remover or Titanium Backup Pro to uninstall all the bloatware that are useless and just sitting on your device and memory for no apparent reason....here is hint: if you have not used an app in last 4-6 weeks, chances are you will never use it/them. You will better success with Titanium backup pro in removing them than System app remover....but be very careful what you delete if are not sure just leave it alone!!! HINT: freeze app first see the effect, be sure then uninstall
-Install Startup manager or any app that does this, to block unnecessary process or app to load up...again if you are not sure leave it alone!!!
-Install any task manager/killer and set it auto kill every 30/15mins or when device is off...closes running apps, frees memory and saves battery.
-Optional: install Rom manager or Rom tool box and fix permission if you have a lots of apps installed in your device. As the claim, this should make the apps run smoother.....No offense to the developers, I personally have not seen and practical effect of this step(it may be just in theory), not in my HD2 and not in Atrix HD...but I like to be on the safe side..it does not hurt!!!
-If you are not a heavy gamer then, install SetCpu or Antutu or something of your choice to scale down the CPU a bit...you don't really need that much speed for normal stuff and you will save a lot of battery this way.
-More battery will be saved if you configure built-in app called SmartActions to a profile that suits you. You can also install auto on/off 2G/3G/4G. I personally don't use it...as it takes long time to switch back to 3G/4G when you wake up your device and you need to use internet right away...not after 10mins..lolll
-If you are in ICS install Widgetlocker app and set it up to Easywake mode to wake your device by pressing volume key....it will save the torture on your power button any time you want to wake up device...NOTE: This App option does not work on JB....so your only substitute is to install WakeUp Screen app to wake up device by shaking instead....TIP: set up threshold to as low as possible so that you don't destroy the inner structure of your Atrix or let it slip out of your hand or smash it on the ground by shaking it too hard....you should not sacrifice your phone over the power button, right???
-Install Lux auto brightness app and adjust/lower your brightness to your choice...I personally think it is too bright in stock mode...saves battery.
WELL........I guess that's all the utility apps you need as far as I can think of and your device will be more efficient......all of these can be installed from the infamous google play....
If you use custom rom via safestrap method...many/some of these features are/may be built in or customizable within the rom...you won't need third party apps...I myself have not installed custom rom although I am flashaholic and I still have my HD2 for that...but I like to wait the custom roms to mature a bit more since I see complaints of buggy camera or sound or bluetooth etc......And since I have customized and cleaned up the stock rom via above stated apps....I don't think I will ever try or need to flash my Atrix HD since it run perfectly up to my expectation....for flashing rom matter I have my HD2 lolllll
NOTE FOR THOSE WHO WILL SCREW UP REGARDLESS: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE AND IF YOU ARE NOT SURE. DON'T DO IT...SIMPLE!
PS: If you have any tips or tricks please join in and share!!!!
I hope you find this helpful...if you do, hit the thanks button...and if you don't...I wish there was a unthank button...xda should work on that
What do you think?
Our CPU is of 1.5 ghz, how much shud we set it at?
I set it up up at 1024...fast enough for me...see for itself you can always change it also make sure to check set at reboot option...I use antutu CPU control. You can also also use diff profile option like...at screen screen set it up around 600 or so...will save even more juice...

My experience with getting the most out of my Nook Color

Hello All,
Just thought I'd add my experience with CM on my Nook Color. I received the Nook from a friend who got an iPad mini - said he wasn't really using it anymore. I knew I wanted full Android, and one that was usable, so I got to work with trying a bunch of different solutions. What I ended up with is a very quick, responsive tablet that runs everything I need it to. I'm hoping this will help some users starting out who are looking for the best compromise between speed and functionality on this aging hardware. If you make any of these changes or suggestions I'm not responsible for damage to your hardware, software, body parts, blah blah blah. Thanks goes to various sources, but most of all to this forum and it's users for being an outstanding source of information. Again, these are all based off of MY experience with the tablet.
As far as the ROM, MiRaGe CyanogenMod 7.2. No question. I tried the official CyanogenMod, Miui, and couldn't even find phiremod (which isn't being worked on). CyanagenMod is current and has an active community with guides for help and support, and the MiRaGe variant has some pretty slick modifications that work very well on the Nook.
I find installing to the internal memory "slightly" faster, resulting in less issues. There's no reason to keep the stock OS on there for me, so I just removed it. You can find full EMMC installation instructions on this forum.
Out of the box with this install, it's pretty responsive.
Disable Wifi when the screen is off - it'll save you a bunch of battery, unless you're really concerned about notifications when you're not using it.
For applications, here's my experience:
1. Latest YouTube works well, but you'll need to deselect "HD" for each video as it loads. An inconvenience, but it works.
2. I've tried tons of versions of Netflix, and find version 1.8.1 the best for this installation. Streaming is smooth, and the UI is responsive. Once you install it, ignore the prompts from the Play store to update it.
3. Install MX Player to handle any type of video playback, including mp4s off the Internet - there's no built in support. It's fast, free and runs everything I've thrown at it.
4. Dolphin browser works really well on this installation. I find it the best balance of performance and features.
Now, the most important part, and believe it or not this made the most difference for me - disable the phone software. Since 7.2 was primarily developed for phones, the cell and phone services are still running, sucking up battery and CPU. You can see the service Cell Standby running constantly. Here's how to wipe it out.
1. Download Root Browser, free from the Market.
2. Navigate to /System/Apps
3. Delete (I know, you could freeze, rename or move, but I won't need these again, and didn't experience any issues afterwards) the following files in this order:
VoiceDialer.apk
TelephonyProvider.apk
Mms.apk
Phone.apk
The "normal" uninstall option won't work. For each of these items, and the one below, tap and hold until you see the full menu of commands. From there, tap Delete. After you delete Phone.apk, you'll get stuck in a loop that the service failed, and you'll have to keep force closing it. Just reboot at this point.
4. Back in Root Browser, go to /Data/Data
5. Delete com.android.phone
6. Reboot.
At this point, my Nook boots cold in about 20 seconds, and application transitions are snappy. I haven't experienced any crashes with this configuration, and that's steady use of Gmail, Facebook, Dolphin, Netflix, YouTube, Feedly and various other apps. All apps except for Netflix are the most current versions from the store and work perfectly.
It goes without saying that most games won't work well, but if you're looking to get some productivity out of this tablet, these settings worked the best for me.

I really appreciate this. I'm trying to update my nook color instead of buying a nexus 7 since I only need a 'tablet' for basic things. I'm really new to all of this, and did an SD root of 7.0.1 since my attempts of 10.2 left my nook super slow. I'm looking to do a full root now that my warranty is up and the 7.0.1 just isn't meeting my needs.
I'm going to attempt the route you went down. Can you provide any links that you used? Sorry if this is asking for too much... I'm really new to all of this and don't know where to start.
Do you find that your programs stop responding at all? I am having the issue now and my main goal is to get that to stop. I'm not sure if thats a rom problem, an SD card problem... or something I did wrong. I hope to use my NC to read, surf the web, email, sync with google calendar... and access google drive.

Hello RedCello,
Yeah - first thing I tried when I got the Nook was the latest CM nightly. And while it was pretty cool to have the latest Android running on 3 year old hardware, it certainly showed. The biggest drawback of the hardware is RAM. The Nook only has 512mb, and running modern apps can take up quite a bit. That's why the most important part of any mod for this hardware is good RAM management. Stock 7.2 is good, but I was constantly running out of RAM, resulting in very sluggish app performance, much like you're experiencing. Keeping Clean Master (free from the store) installed and wiping the ram when it notified me kept things moving, but when I finally tried the MiRaGe ROM, I didn't even have to use it. I wouldn't say it runs like a Nexus, but even animations run relatively smoothly, and I have no trouble with Netflix, Dolphin, Facebook, Feedly, Youtube, and others.
If you have recovery installed to the EMMC, you can grab the latest ROM and kernel updates at the link below. All you'll need are those two zips, and the gapps for 7.2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344873
http://goo.im/gapps
The MiRaGe thread has all the instructions for that rom, and here's the link to the general EMMC install instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
If you only installed to an SD before, this will guide you to create the bootable SD, from which you can install the 3 zips. Pretty simple, and the result is a VERY functional old tablet.

I've installed it and for the brief 10 minutes I've been using - it is great! Thanks for your instructions. links, and tips.
I've followed your suggestions but I can't get root browser to work. Any ideas? It loads properly but when I try to uninstall the files, it says uninstall unsuccessful. I noticed you mentioned that you could freeze items and such, I don't see those options which makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Any clue?

Forgot that part, I'll update the OP. Tap and hold the items you want to remove to get the full menu, then choose delete. It'll work from there.

No problem, glad I could help. I'm actually quite surprised at how capable this tablet is, considering the specs.
Thanks for this. I've been using CM 10.1.3 but it was real sluggish. I had some success with the V6 Supercharger, but I may give the MiRaGe 7.2 if it works as well as you say.

I really like the nightlies, and if they bring KitKat to the Nook Color, I'll surely try that. However, in my trials, NOTHING touches the speed and stability of this rom. Also, there's tons more free ram on a CM7 base, which helps tremendously. But the most important difference is the touch screen responsiveness. With CM7 (and MiRaGe), the touchscreen responds instantly and accurately. The CM10 builds - through to the latest nightlies - all have responsiveness issues with the screen. Some apps require multiple touches, etc.
You're not getting the latest and greatest features here, but what I was looking to do was get the best balance of features and performance, to make this old tablet something I'd want to use on a daily basis. This rom does it for me.

It seems to help, but I think it's an issue of resources as well. on CM7, taps equal a response every time. There are some instances where I have to tap a few times on the nightly, or the tap zone is "off". It'll always work, but it can be very sensitive. For example, navigating Netflix can be frustrating at times. It can read a tap as a swipe if it's not precise enough. I don't seem to have that problem on CM7 builds.
I've gone back to the nightlies right now, to see the progress, and I'm incredibly impressed. If anything, it gets me excited for 4.4. From what I've read, that'll really breath new life into this tablet.
Thanks for the great writeup, have had my Nook for awhile and keep updating and since the latest one I noticed alot of weird things and bad batter life. Did what you suggested and everything seems to be working better now. Was just wondering if anyone would suggest a more lightweight launcher or is ADW the best for battery life (or does it really make a difference)? And any other suggestions for increasing battery life would be helpful to
I started with official cm7.2 and went up and down the cm tree ( cm9, cm10, phiremod) and then some ParanoidAndroid,MIUI, . Somewhere in between I found the mirage rom and to be honest by this time, all I needed my nook color was for the kids and their apps and constant usage of many apps in just a few minutes. That was the the Deciding factor and for some reason mirage ROM got laggy as hell when it was 'multitasking'. I also was not able to get the USB host to work and V6 supercharger has some problems and did not install some scripts, nook tweaks CPU settings were incompatible and WiFi title was a trouble for the kids since enabling/disabling would take them into the settings and they would muck everything up in there.
So I stuck with the official cm7.2 with the help of v6 supercharger (supercharge, kick as kernelizer, battery calibrator), voltage and stepping tweaks with the help of Nook Tweaks on the market, flash player (pre ics) and adding adw ex.
Let's see addressing the YouTube not playing hd even download vids , you can help by installing rolletube side by side with official YouTube app (g**gle it) or

Are you using v6045 or newer CWM? That causes that error. You need to use an older version of CWM.

How does CM11 in its current state compare with running the MiRage 7.2 ROM? I'm going to be giving my old Nook Color to my mother and want to put something on it that will run decent.

I hadn't used my Nook in a while and was thinking of putting it on Ebay, so I decided to update CM and see how it ran, or go back to stock. I decided to stick to CM10.x hoping the Netflix fixes might work, so this isn't CM11...but for the life of me, as much as I respect CM in all it's glory, it just seemed to be nowhere near as snappy/responsive as I have liked. Not sure why, maybe the newer versions are too much for the older Nook Color hardware or something. I had a heck of a time even using the browser as the screen touch response just wasn't what I expected.
Prior to restoring to stock, I came across this post and the OP's experience with his Nook using MiRage 7.2. I installed it this afternoon and I'm really pleased so far. Everything seems as responsive as I'd expect it to be, and I did remove the phone stuff as he suggested. I prefer to download and sideload my .apk's, but everything seems to be running well; very nicely in fact. I did load the 1.5.2 version of Netflix, as was suggested for this MiRage CM version, but haven't had a chance to try it yet, so I can't report on that.
But for my part, I'm much happier with the MiRage version than the most recent CM version(s), and it makes it a nice day-to-day tablet.
...thanks..
