It is no different than the numerous GB/CM based ROMs. Who cares?

I think that He ( OP ) won't be happy until they say Beta.. its alpha for a reason. so many bugs much more than beta. just sit happy with GB and give it time. I rushed it and lost the ability for Google Wallet, nothing can fix what went wrong with my phone.

these people couldn't be taking part in a hobby for them, could they be just trying to learn the ins and outs of android, heck they couldn't even be kids learning to code and all are getting excited to show off what they complied.
Last time I checked you were not required to flash every rom in the Dev section. So lets take a step back I don't like miui nothing wrong with it but should I be complied to start a thread asking why we have topics about when I don't care for it.

You said it....
Chill out. We have to get AOSP working bug-free in the first place, then they'll start looking different. Even CM9 doesnt have any CMsettings or anything special. We're sorry that something that we're beating Google at (ICS release for NS) currently is not to your standards.
In due time.....in due time.
I see where the OP is coming from, but I disagree. The fact that the devs work hard to bring the OS to our devices is pretty appreciated. They pretty much do Google's work for free by modifying the code.

lol im not mad that they are all buggy, im mad that people are "deving" with a buggy base and just adding to it. why not be a little patient, if you cant create it/build it from source, wait til the base you will be using to 7zip and copypaste into your rom becomes stable. dont use an alpha build to promote your name

I don't think you quite understand how it works currently. There is no buggy base. They're attempting to adapt AOSP source code to compile and execute correctly on the Nexus S. This is way more complicated than you think. Almost all "bugs" you see are byproducts of tinkering with configurations, compile-ations, etc, in an attempt to get it working properly.
To put things in perspective, ICS development for the Nexus S is light years ahead of all other devices. For that reason alone, we should be grateful. Others are still struggling to either boot, or get somewhere AFTER boot.
If you don't like the way it's done, then wait for the official ROM. You have a choice, after all.

yes, two roms are getting built from the source on xda; kwiboo and koush. then all the others.
both kwiboo and koush thread is full of bug reports of people using a different rom like brainmaster, ultimate ics, kangorama ics, etc.
all this does is add confusion from the rom chef adding things to the original rom developers work
what im suggesting/ranting is that if a rom chefs should be a little more patient in making more spinoff roms that don't really add much besides to confusion for noob users
Your argument makes a LOT more sense now. I agree, if people are posting bugs in Koush/Kwiboo sections when running brainmaster or other tweaked versions, then that's bad.
Your original argument didn't really point this out.
Not much can be done about that, aside from aggressive moderation. Tweakers will be tweakers.

Most of the bugs posted are not even valid. One in particular is known issue even on the GNexus.
The biggest issue I see is code optimization at this point.
One thing I think no one has mentioned is ICS may never be super fast on the NS. I will be much faster on dual core hardware

This is one thing that has been bothering me as well. Every single one of these ROMs are not truly as smooth as Gingerbread. In no way do they even reach the fluidity found in Gingerbread ROMS. The hardware acceleration helps, but even then you can still feel the difference between the two Android releases. I have yet to hear a proper explanation as to why this is happening and I was hoping that the fix for this would be Google releasing the official Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Is it is code optimization as you say? Or is there more to it than that? I want to believe that hardware doesn't play a significant role here.

Strange, I've found that Koush's latest (CM9 Alpha 11) is plenty fast, not significantly slower than GB. Definitely Kwiboo v2 was slow as molasses, but then again it came out days ago (a long time when it comes to how fast things are moving). BM v5 is pretty fast but buggy. Also, it seems that adding franco kernel to any of these also speeds things up significantly, but I haven't tried it with CM9 Alpha 11 yet.

Understand that we are using old binaries. ICS will run just as good as gingerbread, if not, better. These will make a world of difference

I'd kind of disagree with this. In its current early state here on the NS, I've gotten it running butter smooth and highly responsive, on a 1.1 OC/UV kernel. This is WITHOUT tweaks to filesystem, etc. If certain apps would just display properly when GPU Rendering is turned on, and some battery stuff worked out, I'd be 100% content.
Now granted, I've seen it running on the SGS2 and Galaxy Nexus and they're clearly speedier, but in my experience, my apps run just as fast as they did in GB.
On a side note....wanna see slow? It's been ported to the T-Mobile G1! HA! The first, original android phone!
I agree. there was actually a recent article on android police about this. There is no problem with people making their own roms but don't clog up the development section with "roms" that really all they do is bundle some easily downloadable market apps and some wallpapers and call it a new rom.
What the SGS2 xda forum actually did was split the dev section into 2 . One for original dev work and one for spin offs.
Well, I'm an x8 user, I'm gonna change the phone in some months and wanna ask if i really should buy this device
I know too much about roms cuz well I'm developing one
I wanna ask you guys, should i use it in stock and then wait for official ics or stock roms suck?
Does this phone really need all the stuff to work smooth? I mean custom kernel, rom etc because well its dualcore phone and looks that in some post i read, my phone works better

for me, the best one is CM7, even better with a custom kernel like the Etana one. lots of tweaks and optimizations if you know what i mean

Hi leroy.
I will give you my personal unbiased opinion about it.
I bought the phone and it came with stock froyo (android 2.2). And I thought it was fine. I could play games with no problems at all. Didn't experience any of the problems that lots of people were complaining about (SoD, bad battery life, etc). I "test-drove" it for three weeks more or less, just to make sure everything was working fine, and it was.
And then I flashed temasek's latest kang and vadonka's latest kernel. And I do not regret it one bit. The phone is smoother, more responsive, and battery life is better by at least 25%. Unfortunately I did not do a quadrant benchmark before flashing, so I don't have a before and after comparison, but the phone "feels" much better, no doubts about it.

I tend to believe that what differs from phone to phone is the "bloatware" that carrier dependent phones have installed. I bought an unbranded phone, so I am guessing that is the main reason why I was such a happy customer to begin with, even with stock ROM. A stock unbranded ROM, I might add.

Sorry But i dont know what bloatware mean
sent from my x8 using TecnoBread
My definition of "bloatware" is basically crap software that your carrier (for example vodafone or movistar or whatever) preloads in your branded phone (phone sim locked to your carrier). This software is usually very bad software poorly developed that has memory leakage and drains your battery.
This might be a very biased opinion from me, but usually I like my operating systems to be as clean as possible, only with the software/applications I really need and use. This usually makes for a very fast, responsive and efficient system.

Well, so installing custom rom will replace craping software or just similar unlocking phone?
Also i have hear this is a great phone for developing, but why there's not too much moves as in our threads? Couldn't it be because the phone doesn't need too much developing?
Another question, will official ics fix that or i should upgrade to cm9?

Trust me, the devs for the O2X are awesome. They seriously do great jobs and even create miracles for this device. Just about a month ago, CM9 wasn't available. Many things didn't work, but now thanks to awesome guys like RC and Owain, they made it available to us.
If I were you I wouldn't wait do the official LG release. The GB release was way overdue. LG promised release dates they didn't met and I think this will also happen with ICS. LG said that they would release ICS during the 2nd quarter of this year. I bet that LG won't release it then but probably in 2013 .

I don't know if there is HDMI out or not in CM, because I've never used it while using CM, but it does work fine in MIUI.
And what do you mean by "8 MP is 6 MP"? I thought the resolution just stays the same. Either way, the stock camera app has been ported over to CM7 based roms, and it works just as good as in stock ROM.
Honestly, using MIUI (Wiui to be exact), the experience is alot better, and there is almost no feature sacrificed compared to stock

There are batteries you can buy with more capacity than the stock battery that comes with the phone.
However, I can easily get two day battery life with the stock battery, so personally I don't understand why so many people complain about their battery life. As far as I know it's about the same as other smart phones.
I'm currently running ICS 4.0.4 on nAa-ics-03. I've tried a couple of ROMs, currently got IscreamDX. but I'm really frustrated with it.
Getting loads of lags. Apps randomly shutting down. Slow response times. It will randomly just freeze for several minutes with a black screen - no led response, nothing sometimes i'll do this when I'm running an app (camera, a game, facebook anything really) sometimes it will be in this state when I get it out of my pocket. Then it'll just start working again.
I've seen that nAa ics-04 is out. Will that make a difference or is there a ROM that is stable?
Or should I just admit that the X8 just doesn't have the hardware to run ICS and go back to an older version of android?
there is no absolute opinion.
try it yourself!
try ics-04 kernel and see if there is difeerence, and if this difference is enough for you
try some gingerbread roms and decide what suits you better!
its up to you
 Dude we don't post such questions in XDA
But anyways it's your and your decision only to decide.
How can we tell that on which rom or version you should be ?
You can stay on ICS if you like the UI
If you want performance you can go back to GB

See if you want a GB rom with good performance you can try the following
GingerZaraki with alfs8 GingerZaraki= Lightweight
Gingerdx with alfs8 Gingerdx=Full of features
Use MiniCM9 if you want ICS..
Actually I forgot how GB feels because I'm using MiniCM9 with naa ics4 for the past 1 and a half months. With minimum apps installed. (Only BMX boy, DoodleJump)
Don't use facebook or maps. They are great ram eaters !
yeah!
if you don't want some laggy just go back on GB!
try and choose some GB ROM in XDA
respect our DEV dude!
remember if our phone (X8) has a low memory..
so ICS ROM like MiniCM9 has a great job to make an ICS ROM for our poor phone!
try and keep trying dude!

I mean,personally i adore ics,but videos are slow,youtube doesnt work,cant watch videos over skyfire.
Gb has less bugs, but i think will go for ics.
It depends on whether you are willing to sacrifice performance of GB over beautiful look of ICS. I reverted because I couldn't bear the decrease in responsiveness and speed and I use over 60 apps and that's unthinkable on ICS for X8. As a matter of fact, ICS is really a brilliant display of what great developers can achieve and not a daily-use system for our weak X8. The new Xperia Tipo is quite similar to X8 in price and has better HW and stock ICS

I may be misinformed, but there is not a single rom that works flalessly on our devices...
So, this brings me to my question. Is there a UNIVERSAL ROM for ANY ANDROID DEVICE?
No, there is no universal Rom
Why?
-because every android device is completely different from each other...even similar devices have quite a bit of differences-chipsets, manufacturers, drivers, mount points...etc, they all very from device to device

Do you dev? considering you just asked for Universal rom, I'm going to assume you don't.
So no

I may be misinformed, but there is not a single rom that works flalessly on our devices...
So, this brings me to my question. Is there a UNIVERSAL ROM for ANY ANDROID DEVICE?

i suggest flashing some roms instead of putting dow the forum. some ppl have put alot of work into these roms
Try albinoman's CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM. It's Jellybean 4.2.2 and is stable. Only problem I have is reception bars are inaccurate, but that is a rare problem.
Only other bug I have encountered is reception drops on first boot. Easy fix in the development thread.

Hi,
I flashed this Rom, but it seems that the in-call and speaker volume is still very low.
I started from the stock ICS rom, unlocked, rooted, flash boot.img and flash the rom. The volume issue in CM10 is solved in this Rom?
Thanks

No its going to plauge this device forever. I am going to try one thing to see if I can make it work .. I found something.. But It most likely wont work and this is sorta off topic to what this started out to be. If you have any questions go ask em in the Development section

It is a bug in all of the AOSP based roms. Albinoman released a new build which kinda fixes it. I haven't tested it yet but according to the posts on the thread seems to be working well.

What an interesting post that relays something I've been noticing about XDA, it's development and far too many post of someone who asserted they had no problems putting such and such ROM into his device, "Here's the Tutorial" issue I'm having at present.
I have even openly complained about the only thing I was learning how to do here was how to brick devices in every possible way. And the way I found out how to recover from it properly, sure wasn't from them here. A lot of times you can get the official firmware straight from the manufacturer, online. I've been gone 8 to 10 years and what happened? Most of the posts are Ghost-Town status! Back to the point.
I don't see why they can't be universal, really. And it seems as though, that this was overlooked by every single so-called developer out there. How do you make a 64 bit processor with a dual core would be the first clue. You got your phone(modem) and a split partition that the modem may control sometimes but, can be modified. They seem to have decorated the tree, so to speak rather than actually "build" something. Oh it looks nice and all with the tinsel and shinny stuff. But they're in a hurry I guess and missing the reality of it. You can see it with the source code. The story will go that they got a source code, let's say, Android 4.0. Did this, this, this and that and here you go. Woohooo, look what I did. But what did they do? It wasn't really building if you look at it the right way, it's just, decoration. In the beginning you had to stack things, like boxes. one on top of the other. It's kinda like that. Or sideways. Remember the basics. Two core, four core, soon eight. It doesn't really matter when all it is, is some kind of partitioning. What is it all? 64 one way or another. But seperate the two is the first issue. The phones gonna be the phone regardless. Put a switch in for control. Then you're left with the other part to do as you wish. Run a whole different program, on top of the phone program. Eventually you're gonna reach the end of what the phone is capable of. That's a givenIt was remembering the days of TV/VCR repair and how a basic motherboard works. This part controls audio, this part controls video thing. Now you see it? It's the same in an Android isn't it, just smaller of course. And when it dawned on me that this was more than possible and everyone went the other way? Oh boy things are about to get silly around here at XDA. I'm most definately going to take a different look at this now. It wasn't a problem ten years ago once you got the hang of it to flash in a ROM. Everything I see now is. So what happened? Everyone went decorating I guess...

No, there is no universal Rom
Why?
-because every android device is completely different from each other...even similar devices have quite a bit of differences-chipsets, manufacturers, drivers, mount points...etc, they all very from device to device

Riiiight chipsets are more about how many GHz the device may use which is usually around 1 to 1.65 GHZ, we want our devices fast. Manufactures? Well they just put the same stuff together in a different way. Drivers and mounts can be put together, same ol USB (with maybe different serials) and even sd card mounts. Really there's not much difference when you look at it as a whole. Refrence

Since Android 4.4 has low system requirements, do you think anyone will make a rom for our device?
as for NEON, Tonyp managed to make 4.3 work so I'm guessing it is possible with 4.4?
KittKatt would be awesome!
I sure hope someone will... I think it might run a lot better than jellybean versions considering the memory requirements... I just hope that not too much has changed 'under the hood' to make it work with current drivers. LG will never release new drivers.
To anyone who tries: Good luck and well done!!
Tonyp's 2 cents about kitkat
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=1086
this is a main topic on o2x forum... use a search a bit before opening a new thread
Well, we hope so...if pengus77 and tonyp doesn't hit a roadblock with android 4.4 sources. Well be satisfied with we have right now. Android 4.3 for our phones is doing great.
Wrong thread.
Really hope for a 4.4 ROM that would be GREAT
Out there are alredy custom AOSP roms on the nexus 4 i think and the HTC one i read that on google
But i reckon it will be possible for most devices with cyanogenmod
You all do realize that this ain't such an easy thing to accomplish? Aside the "low memory requirement" that 4.4 offers, it is still a long shot. First of all, there's the thing with the drivers that we are stuck on since android 4.0, LG's final update. tonyp and pengus have done an amazing job regarding this, but as all of you might know, tony is upgrading. I'm not sure if to the N5 or Z1Mini, but regardless in one of his posts on the "The Rom" thread he stated that he yet does not know what to do with his love-hate o2x. Second of all, even cyanogenmod stated that they won't be updating older devices regardless of the 512mb requirement. Then there's NEON and the fact that even Google abandoned our Tegra. Other than that, I am more than satisfied with his 10.2 rom, and I'm currently using it as a daily driver. Other than that, install linux, sync repos and cook roms. This community has yet to die. Oh, or theme. Theming works well.
I may be new to the O2X community, but I read a lot.

I would love to learn how to code / cook ROMs but from what I've worked out you need to have a dedicated machine for the job?

Well, you do at least need a machine with linux dual boot. Cooking is far easier today than it was just a few years ago, I mean tony has a tutorial for cooking your own CM10 build, but yeah, it all depends on linux. There's a lot to download, also (I remember AOSP sources from 4.0 to be like 2 gigs. Or was it 2.3? Don't know, it was for the Optimus GT540 some time ago). All in all, it does take time, patience and some luck. I mean, every recognized contributor earned the title simply by trying. Try, fail, but don't brick and you'll do it
Issue is Linux has never worked well for me (force closes everyware! Which version would you recommend?
Guys anybody follow the XDA portal ? 5-6 phones (HI END PHONES which 2x is not since years ) are getting kit kat roms latest Moto X early one X and GS4 coming rly soon if it doesnt alredy have
