[Q] Please I need urgent help Droid phone GSM - Motorola Droid 4

hello every body
first thanks for your great efforts , I am seeking your help again plzzzzz.....
I had droid 3 and stolen from 2 days ago I live in Egypt with GSM network , My Droid 3 unlocked was working perfect here) , now i will get a new mobile , I guess it will be Droid 4 as extend for my beloved stolen phone
When I was looking for it on eBay and Amazon I became so confused , as I found
1-Version Droid 4 locked
2-Unlocked Droid 4
3-Unlocked Droid 4 international use
Now my question is which one will work with my local GSM ? please note that a big price diffident between unlocked and locked one , the locked one is more more cheaper , if I buy the locked can I locked it and works perfect with GSM or have I buy unlocked one ?
Thanks in advance

AFAIK they are all the same. If it has ICS it is unlocked for international use. If it still has Gingerbread, I think you can still upgrade to ICS using WiFi.

There's no international shipping on your first option. If I were buying one today, I'd probably go for one of these:

Cheers,
Steve.

dont worry about international shipping as a friend of mine in USA and will come to Egypt after 1 week , so my question is still here why this big differenced in price between my 2 prevoius llinks

The only lock on the Droid 4 is that you cannot use it on American GSM carriers, i.e. T-Mobile USA and AT&T. This lock is irrelevant to you as you are in Egypt, unless you intend to travel to the USA and use this phone.
The unlocked one is being sold by Devices Now. It is possible that they have found somewhat to unlock it for US GSM, though if they have they aren't sharing it with these forums. They are a pretty good seller as they were one of the first to offer this phone pre-flashed to ICS for people wanting to use it on GSM.
That said, if you are happy enough with flashing the phone to ICS yourself, and don't intend to use it in the USA, go ahead and get the cheaper one.

thanks a lot Lum_Uk , but is the flashing is just updating the phone to ICS ? I mean when i bought the cheaper one just i need to update it via wire wireless or i have to do something else ?

To flash ICS all u need is the phone and a wire to connect it to your computer (and possibly a sd card).

Yes just updating it to ICS, though many people have found that the OTA update doesn't always work, so have to flash it the hard way
Full instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766479

Just a little update for everybody here. Just because a Droid 4 has Ice Cream Sandwich or Jellybean doesn't mean it's already unlocked for GSM or international use. Having an Ice Cream Sandwich or Jellybean ROM means that the phone is ABLE to be unlocked from the carrier. The phone DOES NOT come unlocked with each ROM. You have to call Verizon to get an unlock code or pay for an unlock code through one of the measly online websites. I have much experience with this as I was in the Army for a while and took my US Android phone to Iraq and Kuwait with me. You have to put an unlock code into the device for it to be unlocked. Therefore...I would purchase a Droid 4 that has been unlocked previously. You can tell when you put a different SIM card into the phone,it will ask you for the unlock code or tell you the device is unlocked. Just wanted to clarify that for everybody.

Sorry but this is complete rubbish. It may be true for other phones, but the Verizon Droid 4, once flashed to ICS or JB, will work internationally without any codes, custom ROMs or hacking.
My Droid 4 has never even seen the Verizon network, and I don't have an account with Verizon and no way to contact them to get a code. It just works.
Plenty of others in the same situation on this forum, loads of us are using it on GSM without having to get Verizon's permission.

^^ Truth! There is no SIM lock on any VZW Motorola LTE capable device.
The last Verizon Motorola global device to have a SIM lock was the Droid3, which was a CDMA/EVDO/GSM/UMTS global device.

Hahaha schooled! Not trying to be mean but its generally smart to know what your talking about before u spew bullish out of your mouth and look like an idiot. As lum stated droid 4 isn't locked to Verizon or any carrier. Through build prop tweaks it does work very nicely at that.

Should probably add, since they are in Ohio, that GSM is locked out for US carriers. This isn't locked out with an unlock code but at the firmware level. So far nobody has broken that and unlock codes don't exist. There's a big sticky at the top of the forum with the current progress in dealing with this problem.

[Q] Droid 4 unlocked?

Does anyone knows if is possible to unlock a Droid 4 or to buy an unlocked one? I am in Venezuela and I want one of those phones. Thanks in advanced.
This is pretty much the same as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537658
Right now, no it is not possible to get the Droid 4 unlocked as the GSM radio is not enabled and thus it is only running on Verizon CDMA/LTE bands. Hopefully with a firmware update Verizon will enable the rest of the radios in the device.
Thank you blpw , it is very nice to know it, I will wating for any update from Motorola/Verizon
How long does it usually take to get this update so we can use this phone overseas on our networks? I really want the Droid 4 and I have no idea how long new phones take to be "unlocked" for use at other countries. But when it does Im sure this device will make a killing for the seller on ebay

There is no information available to tell how long it will take. This is new territory, having an LTE phone from Verizon that is theoretically global capable. All previous VZW global phones were 3G and worked everywhere out of the box.
I have read that Verizon will enable GSM roaming for this phone with an firmware upgrade by the first half of the year.
Can firmware update change the frequency? I read this at a forum
So the phone is pointless to wait for if they ever do release that firmware update?
A firmware update can not add frequency compatibility to a phone, it is a hardware limitation.

You can have the hardware but without the properly software you have nothing. The same thing happened with the Xyboard from Verizon. Look at google: "Software update gives the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 global roaming capabilities"
awww now I dont know if I should just get the HTC mytouch slide 4 or wait for the Droid, Ill be spewing if they dont release this global roaming software, I dont understand this frequency stuff and I still dont really know what Australia should require much, I know some of the stats but Ill be peaking if the Droid never gets this software then I wait for nothing.

Droid 4 for Hong Konger?

Hi, I am currently using Milestone 2 (non-us Droid 2) and I have been using this phone for around a year and a half. I have rom the phone, overclocked it, themed it. I have juiced every drop of my phone out.
Now the "C" button on my keyboard is a bit messed up, i need press down hard so that the phone can sense me.
Now I am 50/50 about the Droid 4 ( Milestone 4), I am a huge MotoFan, and I am a keyboard fan, leaving me no choice but choosing the Dorid series. But the current Droid 4 is only 1.2 dual core, 1785 mah battery, and rubbish screen, worst of all, I am from Hong Kong, tho the Droid 4 is a world phone, I am not sure if the phone will work in Hong Kong, a GSM city.
So will the Droid 4 work in Hong Kong, and should I get the Droid 4? (Or wait for Droid 5)

The Droid 4 currently cannot be used on GSM/UMTS networks. It does have a Qualcomm MDM6600 chip which technically can support both CDMA/EVDO and GSM/UMTS networks, but you'd have to flash a different baseband which I don't think is possible at this point.

Sorry to hear that Unfortunately there is no way to use the Droid 4 on GSM/UMTS networks at the moment.
I found some successful cases in forum from China
But need to order the unlock code
Anyways i would order my xt894 and have a try
If i got luck i will tell the buddies on this forum~
Got a link for the order? My Droid 4 is coming in this week. It's at customs now. I live in NL, so trying once wouldn't hurt me.

VZW should unlock it for you if you call and ask. I think you have to have already met some minimum account duration and payment requirements.
I too am waiting for the GSM firmware. With VZW's CDMA roaming, I can go to 40+ countries, but not to Europe.
I finally got my droid4 in hand and confirm it got gsm function is working in Hong Kong!
However, I got it with GSM ALREADY UNLOCKED so I cannot tell you how to unroot it
But probably involve flashing chinese rom

I got it from a china auction website
I would like to post the info, any hot-key could take a screenshot in motoblur?
Previous key in milestone3 doesn't work here
And any way to map the 'alt key' back on the physical keyboard?
The info I gathered so far hinted the unlocking involve flashing another rom, *#*#2468#*#* and unlock the device with unlock code, but I got my phone unlocked out of box so I couldn't test it
i found this http://www.buyonsalecheap.com/motor...ocked-verizon-new-without-contract_p1190.html but it dose not look like a trustworthy site and its the only GMS Driod 4 i could find.

@Disablewong I'm very curious. I too am waiting and trying to use the GSM radio on the Droid 4. Where did you get it? What rom do you use?
Do you know where I can buy an unlock code? I'm not a Verizon customer so they cannot help me. And I tried some 3rd party unlock sites, but none of them was able to generate an unlock code for me.
Thanks in advance.
There is a way to know if this device is a real Motorola Droid 4? I found some weird links about it[1]

VMU,
Which ones did you try? I want to try this one because of their success with Razr and Atrix. Not so sure about a ferund though when they do not succeed.
http://sim-unlock.net/simlock/New_Motorola/Droid 4/
I tried mobile2mobile, networkunlockcodes, and unlockitnow.
I also found the site you mentioned. But before I contacted them before I place an order. If they can guarantee that they can unlock the Droid 4 I'll submit my imei.
Waiting for a reply.
Guys, will you expect the phone will work as GSM after unlocking? Or you will use it as CDMA?

Droid 3 Bootloader unlock and subsidy lock bypass

Hi,
Now that there is a real possibility that motorola unlock the droid 3 bootloader, will it be possible to flash a modified radio that will bypass Verizon's subsidy lock? this would solve the simlock problem for all of us stuck with locked phones not responding to normal unlock codes available online.
If I'm correct this has already been done on the atrix?
What do you think? if it's possible we could gather up a task force to do the job.
A true bootloader unlock from Motorola? Where did you hear about this?
Sent from my HTC Raider
Its been all over the web. (although the only phone on the list is Sprint's Photon Q which was already announced as unlockable)
BUT
1. If you think Moto will unlock the bootloader so you can run ICS or JB on your D3 rather than buy a new phone......
or
2. If you think VZW would allow Moto to unlock the bootloader (if you're in the US) so you can run ICS or JB on your D3 rather than buy a new phone.....
you, my friend, are
sorry, but that's the cold hard truth.

Actually I'm a bit , nonetheless I'm really hoping that it will be possible to unlock my Droid3.
I live outside the US and none of the subsidy codes I bought over the web worked. *
running ICS/JB on this phone is only a matter of tie, whether the BL gets unlocked or not, thanks to Hashcode's et al. efforts.
What I hope will happen if/when the BL gets unlocked is the possibilty to run custom/patched radio that will bypass Verizon's *%$£d subsidy lock.

Yes motodev has released a bootloader unlock tool. The only devices supported are photon q, razr dev edition (which was always unlockable) and the xoom. We are likely to see more devices going forward but i doubt any older devices will get support. As mentioned by someone else, why open up more options for us, when they can get us to buy a new device.
Honestly I don't know why they bother. Seems in the end many devices get their bootloader bypassed or cracked. Kecex is going to support a number of devices. The verizon sgs3 got cracked in a couple weeks. All they do is drive innovation in hacking.
Sent from my XT860 using xda premium
First, the bootloader has to be unlockable which the Droid 3's is not. Motorola would have to release an updated bootloader which they will not do.
The site also states that August 2012 and future devices will be able to access this feature/function. Nothing for current devices.

Never with Droid 3. As fas as I understand Droid 3 is the most replaced phone in the history of Verizon. They have lotsa problems with stock-flashed handsets and it's going to be total disaster if they officially allow custom ROMs.

Why? Just make it so unlocking voids warranty - so you can't send it back
Even without an official bootloader unlock I am quite sure there will be a bypass shortly.

I recently dropped my Droid 3 that had been unlocked by my ex boyfriend in water and was unable to save it. I do not believe I can do the process myself. I am wondering if there is any one close to the Springfield, IL area that can like meet me and help me or do it for me and I can pay them. I really loved that phone. I don't think I would be happy with a different one. Thanks

[Q] HTC One Developer to flash TMO radio later

Hey, I live in Canada and I am with wind. I am really tempted to purchase the HTC one developer edition through a friend of mine. I know that it does not support the HSPA+ 1700Mhz network used by wind and TMO. However, the decive itself does. Would I be able to flash the TMO radio on it once they release the device, and just buy the developer edition beforehand? Just want to make sure that this would work.
People are saying that might be possible, but no one knows for sure until it has been done (not yet).

We're going to need S-Off for that and who knows when that will happen. And even then, no one really knows if it will work
Well, the developer edition will have s-off, or at least that's what I have heard. Getting the radio might be tricky, but knowing the devs on here someone will work it out. I was just wondering whether it would be physically feasible to get the missing frequency.

Some of the later HTC devices, like my Amaze, only got S-Off by using a wire trick, which requires physical access to the inside of the phone (in the case of the Amaze, easily done by taking the back cover off). I wonder if S-Off will be possible on the One without physically disassembling it.
http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm .... Step 3, wire trick, which is needed for the phones listed.
Has this been done before on other HTC devices? I've preordered the 64 gb developer edition but am having second thoughts.
The reason I ask is that I bought the International version of the Galaxy note 1 with the expectation that one of our very talented developers could hack the radio to make the Tmobile band active... and it turned out to be way more complicated than anyone gave it credit for. Still not done for that note 1.
I'd like to feel a little more comfortable that this can be done with the One.

it is interesting, should be an easy fix but here in canada the only provider that is worth paying for is WIND. For $40 you get unlimited, calls, texting and data. Everywhere else it is $60 for a gig or less. So, naturally I want to stick with my provider, the only bummer is that they use the HSPA+ networks, same as T-Mobile.
The unlocked phone also cost $250 more here for some weird reason.
I don't think it will be possible, I'm sure I read that the alternative frequencies burnt off the driver chip. It might have been in the Anandtech review.
Just contacted HTC, got this as an answer ot the S-off of the Developer edition.
"Thanks for contacting HTC Technical Support Center.
Dear Balint, I am glad to know that you are a member of the HTC family and I will be more than happy to assist you.
Regarding the first question, your HTC One has the S-off."
so it is off, and have been confirmed.

Seems like you should believe this when an S-Off phone is in your hands.
I have 64GB Developer Edition and it says Unlock with S-ON this is Popoo Im so mad at HTC it also says SIMLOCK I dont get it.

Well, the developer edition will have s-off, or at least that's what I have heard. Getting the radio might be tricky, but knowing the devs on here someone will work it out. I was just wondering whether it would be physically feasible to get the missing frequency.

I don't think HTC ever said the dev edition was going to be S-Off, just bootloader unlocked and SIM unlocked.

Ok, Thanks But why it says on Bootloader SIMLOCK?

With an s-on radio hack now available is it possible for this to be tested?

I would like to know as well.
I flashed the T-Mobile radio last week and don't get HSPA on 1700MHZ. I continue to get LTE and I still get HSPA on the refarmed towers. How do I know? I have an older T-Mobile branded phone that I can compare against. At home I get nothing better than EDGE on my Developer Edition One but I get HSPA on my other phone (T-Mobile branded). If I travel down the road a little ways I get LTE and HSPA on the One.
BTW, there are a TON of threads in this and the other One forums that are discussing the T-Mobile radio on the Developer Edition One and it seems the consensus is that you need to change your CID and, to do that, you need S-OFF. MobileTechVideos.com has supposedly gotten S-OFF with a JTAG rig and, a little more tecently, without using a wire. Check their Facebook page for that info -- http://www.facebook.com/pages/MobileTechVideos/182579981788132
We have S-OFF!
Time to kickstart this discussion back up now that S-OFF is in our hands. Thanks to Revolutionary.

:good: to this! If anyone needs a guinea pig to test with, I have a newly s-off'ed Dev Edition in a non refarmed rural area. Just have no idea when it comes to software hacks as I'm mainly a hardware hacker/hobbyist. I miss the 3G I had with my One S, but I'm loving the 64 gigs on the One!

[Q] Import droid 4 to Europe, any problems?

Hi. I want to know, is there any problems with Droid 4 in Europe? I'm from Poland, and here is almost no such phones with keyboard, so I would like to buy from USA. I know that this phone work outside USA but I have a question: Phone must be unlock from verizon? If i buy locked, what can I do to make them usable for me? When it is unlock, I only need to updated Android?
I'm still learning english, so, if you have problems to understand my message, I'm sorry.

i have bought one on ebay,i was unlocked to any carrier and work good in France
I can confirm, working fine in Hungary too. Would recommend to install Mentor's ROM/patch though, in order to be more optimized to GSM/WCDMA networks.

You should have no problems - I'm in the UK and I've bought 4 or 5 in my time. Agree that you should install Mentor's patch if you are using CM11, but stock ICS and JB worked fine for me as stock.
Cheers,
Steve.
Agree, works out of the box with stock, but it's better after the patch. Better signals, MMS working properly, etc.

Thanks you all. Last question: It isn't important whether phone is lock or not in verizon? Can I unlock by root/flashing in home by myself? I had only 1 phone with android and I'm not sure that.

AFAIK there's no difference at all between the phones that say they are locked or not to Verizon.
Basically, if you are trying to use the phone in the US, then they are locked. Period. You can't use a Droid 4 in the USA on any network other than Verizon - it seems to be hardwired into the firmware (I'm not sure whether this applies to people with non-US SIMs when roaming in the US though).
As far as the rest of the world is concerned, then the phones are "unlocked" in that they will accept any non-US GSM SIM and work in that country. I think this was the case from the ICS Android release onwards, and only the original GingerBread ROM was locked for international use. Non-stock releases, such as CM11, do an even better job of handling GSM connectivity, especially with Mentor's GSM patch.
Cheers,
Steve.
This is exactly what I wanted to know. Thx.
Same here. I have a Verizon Droid 4 working perfectly in Spain after gsm patch.
