Hi guys.
probably this is a noob question.
Btw i didn't find a thread to explain my doubts.
I have a stock jvp with cf root and ext4 partitions.
1. I know the meaning of oxeded and deoxeded, but i don't know which roms/mods/updates can i use first (oxeded? deoxeded?). Can i have an example/guide for first mod i have to run?
2. I have to put a oxeded mod before? or viceversa? is the same procedure to put a oxeded or a deoxeded mod?
Thanks in advance for help guys, probably these questions are very easy for you. But without learning bases i can't do anything
Hi, as you know the meaning of odexed/deodexed, let's know that there're deodexed ROMs, i.e. roms, that have this feature implemented. So you'll have your apps fully deodexed when flashing your phone with any custom rom with "deodexed" feature in their list. There're many of them, I like Juwe's, Darky's, F1 and Ficeto's stock ROMs. But there're many other cool variants, so it's yours to choose one. Good luck with flashing)
If the rom your using is deodexed you use deodexed mods, which is pretty much all of them. If you are using an odexed rom use only odexed mods. Pretty much every custom rom is deodexed and Ramad has a collection of pre deodexed stock roms available for cwmhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790 and since you already have cfroot installed it is quick and easy using cwm to change to a custom or just deodexed JVP rom.
Hope this helps
Ok, thanks guys. I begin to understand something more. So, for example, if i want a deoxeded rom, just have to flash it by odin as i do with a standard rom? and then to install deoxeded mods i like?

Can the apk be mixed between the different builds? ie can I put odexed files on deodexed build?
Sent via ET and he phoned it in
I don't think it works. I put just an deodexed update to my stock rom some days ago and the phone didn't start anymore. I had to reflash the rom. Obviously, my bad, i didn't made a backup...otherwise i think a restore is enough.

Umm, you can flash deoxdexed roms via odin, but it is easier to do so through CWM which CFroot(the kernel you have) has built in so you can just chuck a custom rom or deodexed stock rom on your sd and flash it. Be aware odin and cwm take different files and aren't cross compatible. Most custom roms are in cwm form and will say on the thread. From there you should only use deodexed mods. So if the rom is deodexed use deodexed mods, if it isn't use odexed mods. Have a bit of a search around about cwm and more info on what odex files are and do.
Ok. just the last thing: The rom shall be flashed by cwm with "install from sd"?
thanks a lot for help, i appreciate people as you that helps full noob as me

Yep, install from SD, good to do a backup of your current rom which can be done in recovery and go back to rfs from ext4. You can hit the thanks button if you want
First tings first, deodexed and APKs with odex file can work together in system, I use them right this moment.
After reading about what is this all about, conclusion is that odexed system is better, only advantage I found stated about deodexed system is theming ability.
So I decided to try to theme new 2.3.4 odexed stock ROM, and guess what?!
It works!
So now I can't find not one advantage of deodexing ROM.
BTW odexed system is stated faster, so doing file system conversion (lagfix),
and deodexing is like adding + and - at the same time.
is it possible to install a new custom kernel coming from another custom kernel ? I mean without come back to the original SE kernel.
Thanks in advance.
i think yes, its like changing rom, u dont need to go back to stock rom just to flash another rom

Sure, you can..
I did it several times..
Im just stating here that I will generally know what you are talking about, im not a noob when it comes to android modding/roms/rooting, however i have always been worried with my note because ive seen lots of threads on devices being bricked.
basically i want to root my note, get CWM recovery onto it, and then flash whatever ROM/s i choose, without getting my phone bricked in the process.
i want someone to advise me on the best way to go about this whole thing, thankyou!
my device:
Samsung galaxy note (not sure if international or not, i bought from kogan.com.au, i live in australia, and have a telstra sim in it, however i think kogan ships the intl model)
android version: 4.0.3 ICS (stock)
baseband: N7000XXLPT
KERNEL VERSION: 3.0.15-N7000XXLPY-CL474507
BUILD NUMBER: IML74K.XXLPY
carrier: telstra (prepaid, and phone is unlocked)
the main confusion i have here is finding the correct threads for my kernel version, however i couldnt find what i wanted, and was unsure of which was safest, so thanks all for helping me out!

Hello Good Dr. I am about to try rooting via method 1.Rooting with stock recovery. After this am i correct in saying I should flash notecore kernel ? I would be using Mobile Odin to do this as I dont have Windows PC.
What would be safest method to get to ParanoidAndroid JB or CM10 JB from there ? After the Kernel is flashed. Would I have to downgrade to pre-rooted GB rom first then flash ParanoidAndroid ? So your method 1 > flash kernel > downgrade to pre-rooted GB rom > ParanoidAndroid ?
Kind Thanks.
If you want to downgrade to prerooted rom then no need to get root, except you have no option to use pc. In this condition just root n use mobile odin to flash prerooted rom. After successful flashing wipe cache n data and flash cusyom ROM.

So please just to clarify Dr.ketan. If I follow your method 1 to root my ICS Note and then I flash safe notecore kernel via Mobile Odin then I could flash ANY custom rom ? No need to flash a pre-rooted GB rom ? If this is correct would I need to wipe cache and data before flashing custom rom ? Please could you clarify which cache I should wipe ?
Thank you very much.
[Resolved via DM. Thanks Dr.Katan]
After flashing note core.you can.flash custom rom if that is ics based.
Otherwise i recommend to flash preroored gb rom first and wipe all (cache, data and delvic cache)

Can I flash pre-rooted gb rom with mobile odin ? do I need a tar file or will it work with zip ? or should I use recovery mode and a zip ?
Thank you.
Stephen
Mobile odin can't flash zip.recovery.files. You can flash tar file, and prerooted gb rom is in tar. You can use mobile odin for that

Thank you once again.
Is this safe to do on mobile odin ? Please could you provide me with a link to a pre-rooted gb rom in .tar format as the one in your sig is in .zip
Stephen
Just extract that, n you will get .tar file.

Well guys. It looks like my flashing rom days are over before they have begun !
Tryed flashing the pre-rooted GB rom via Mobile Odin. This is what I get http://twitpic.com/an6zbi
This isnt right is it. Surely the other sections should be filled in not just System ? This is a real problem as I dont have Windows and can get my head around Heimdall. Im stumped. Is there a file I can use via Restore to install the rom ?
Hope someone can help !
Stephen

I have read a lot but I'm still a bit confused...
Hello dear friends,
I'm just a newbie here, so please be patient ...
1) I'm planning to root+CWM my n7000 and also (and finally) want to flash CM9.1 (stable) on it. Right now I'm on GB 2.3.6 (not directly rootable) it's ZSLA2... for what I understand from Dr. Ketan's rooting guide is that I have to first downgrade the device flashing a pre-rooted+CWM'ed GB ROM from Chainfire..... ok, no problem.... but, my main question is: once I already have this pre-rooted gingerbread rom, can I (must I) do a hard reset/wipe prior to flash a custom rom?... and, can I FINALLY and DIRECTLY flash the CM9.1 + Gapps files from that chainfire's gingerbread rom version/kernel?... or do I have to upgrade again to a new GB ROM and then flash the CM?.... or even further: do I have to upgrade to a newer GB ROM then to an ICS ROM and only then I would can flash the CM file??....
2) The obligated dumb question: Once I finally flash CM9.1 ROM, it's a must (or a recommended practice) to flash a safe kernel like Franco, Speedmod, Notecore (for safety and/or performance)??
Thank you for your time! cheers

1. always advisable to do all three wipes ( data , cache, dalvik) in CWM if you are on GB and planning to flash another rom from there.
--- yes, you can directly go from pre-rooted Gb to CM 9.1 with g apps
--- when you are on CM and want to go to a custom ics then best to follow the method specified in opening post of the rom thread by developer. all CM kernels are safe to wipe and flash from generally...
2 . Franco , notecore, speedmod are all Touchwiz kernels. a CM rom will not boot with it, its not compatible.there are other CM kernels available that you can use with it, refer kernel repository by Chasmodo

TW and Cm roms have varied/different and many simillar features
you must read through the rom threads for identifying them and choose your rom accordingly
I'm sorry if this question has been answered before, but I couldn't find it by searching.
I'm running 4.0.4 rooted, and would like to unroot it since I have to take my Note to be fixed on warranty. I rooted with temporary CWM and because it's considered to be dangerous now, can I run the Unroot_SuperUser-Busybox-Uninstaller-Update2-signed.zip from Dr. Ketan's root/unroot thread from stock recovery ?
Just wanted to make sure before I do anything stupid. And yes, I know I could flash to stock GB, wipe and flash to stock ICS but if I could unroot straight from recovery it would be a lot easier. Thanks in advance.
Yes you can, but remember if you have flashed custim kernel then first replace with stock. As well if you have update supersu from market, then first uninstall that from setting -appl -all

Hi. If I want to go back to stock kernel (say I'm using modded kernel on V20A), I just need to flash official V20A KDZ?

or you can use mobile odin.
ask questions in Q&A sections. As for your problem, if you want pure stock then only flashing via odin through usb is the way afaik. Repair your usb port.

You can't flash a stock rom using CWM, just custom roms, but here there is a pure stock rom...just kernel changed (cf-roof b83)
And yes you can flash a stock rom WITHOUT Odin using Mobile Odin MOD for GT-S5830
Be carefull with this app...but several members used it to flash a new stock rom successfully even you can read the latest post in the thread to get more info
