i looked everywhere on how to do this didn't do much to help
i had a scratch in my phone and since i had already put my information in it returning it was not an option so i decided to sell it off to my brother i did lose on it but i don't want to think about it i am buying a brand new again after i have gotten rid of this one
so now i want to wipe this phone
i am not THAT parnoid as i am giving it to my brother but i would like to wipe it in a more secure way then simple reset i want the data to be very hard to get then slowly fade away as he uses it
i have encrypted the ENTIRE phone through the xperia encryption feature
i simply want to wipe it as much as possible before i give it away i plan on changing most of my passwords after this anyway (yes i am that parnoid)
is there a program or an app that simply writes zeros to the phone that i can have running for a long period of time a few hours that i can use before or after i have done a normal hard reset
i don't think my data is recoverable after my brother takes care of the phone and it will most likely fade away as he uses it but i am still very paranoid so i'd like to wipe it as good as possible i want to be safe
Hook up the phone to your pc and format the drive @ my computer, that should work.

i was planning to use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avengermobile.nukemyphone&hl=sv
first removing all accounts and files manually i have no files so just accounts
then use that and "nuke" the phone then have it reset then fill it up with junk untill it's full then nuke it again
oh and to make it clear i do not want to WIPE the phone empty from everything including operating system i just want to wipe it securely to then perform a hard reset i DO NOT want to empty out everything making it an empty shell
assuming formatting it through then computer does that
it is still nuking how long will this take?
getting abit worried now
sorry for double reply
As you encrypted the entire phone you could have just factory reset your phone and all would be well, providing no one knows your encryption password.

so that encryption password will never dissappear even if i do a hard reset it will now always need that password?
and it is still "nuking"
which it has been doing for nearly 2 days now

As stated here, once you data is encrypted 99.9% of people are not getting anything off that.

So I used this pin code for about 3 weeks now..
what i did was, I downloaded dungeon defender because it was free..
and it told me to do a reboot after install so i did.
when i finished rebooting my pin would not be accepted..
and also even if i fail a lot, it keeps telling me to try again after 30sec
rather than entering you google account.....
Im running darky 9.5..
SHould i do a hard reset? or reflash?
any other solutions?
please help...
Did you enter your google account and reset your pin?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
That's odd. That usually only happens if you make changes to the framework with a PIN enabled.
Are you sure you didn't also happen to modify the framework (theming, no-clock, other flashable mods) with a PIN enabled?
The only way that I've dealt with it is basically reflash, and don't enable a PIN lock until you're totally done with your modifications.
If not that's very surprising, and makes me think twice about a PIN.
first it never asked for a google account.... im on my 240 try...
one thing i noticed is that when i get it wrong 5 times.
it says "you have incorrectly drawn your unlock pattern 240 times. Please try again in 30 seconds."
why does it say pattern?
and fyi i never did any modifications with the pin... i dont even know how to do it...
and does reflashing erase all the data?
i just reflashed.
it didn't help anything.. the pin is still there. I still dont know the password.
is there a way to figure out the pin? like plug it in a computer and it tells you or something?
Did you do a master clear through Odin?

no i have not yet tried that...
is that the only way? because i really want to save my data....
but still thanks for the reply..
One more thing you can try is a hard factory reset (it's accessible through CWM). tbh I can't remember if it wipes all of your data. I don't think it does but don't quote me on that.
That will allow you to get into your phone temporarily. But you'll still run into the problem, so a master clear is in your future.
What data did you want to save?
You can use "SMS Backup" or "Backup to Gmail" to save your SMS/MMS/Call logs when you get back into your phone then wipe everything else.
I just wanted to get my app data.
Anyway I did a factory reset and it sort of solved the problem.
I'm not using a password now...

have you tried rebooting the phone? i think when it happened to me the problem would come back after a reboot. if not then problem fixed!

Can you use adb on the phone? You could pull data or do something with the framework
Your welcome
Now you say/press thanks

i got my xperia z about a week ago i absolutely loved it no other phone has had the effect this one has on me i adore it i set it up with my settings apps etc
then i noticed a tiny tiny little scratch and now i want to return it even paying to get it exchanged
however i put in all my passwords in it (which i plan to change)
i did some searching around and saw that encrypting the phone would make the data virtually impossible to recover once deleted
i also used a program called nuke my phone which turns out dosn't work on encrypted files so it was stuck in a loop according to the author of the program encrypting the files before erasing everything has the same effect
so can i now safely change this phone without worrying about anything?
i encrypted the phone which wook about 1 hour i then did a factory reset of it

Are you still playing with this problem ?
It's ok - everyone has looked at porn. We won't judge you.
If you have encrypted and factory reset your phone all you can do is check your accounts in settings make sure nothing is there. As a last resort you could format the SD card, obviously take out your own SD card. If you are really in doubt you could fill the internal card with files full of 1 and 0's (overwriting blank space) after that there's nothing much you can do apart from burning the device. Or develop a small EMP to wipe it...
And if you're really paranoid, change all your passwords on your accounts and use 2 step authentication.

you'd think i did but i didn't honest lol
thing is i am paranoid all i want gone is my passwords thats all i never put ANY files in the phone itself i never used the camera i barely got time to use it
i have no sd card in it
as for 2 step verification already activated on all accounts
I'd say you're good so. There is nothing else you can do.

Excuse my ignorance but I have always thought that with the built-in factory data reset that...well...that was that and all traces of user info banished.

It does. This person just wanted to be doubly sure. AKA paranoid.

My wife woke me up in the middle of the night because my G2 was making a clicking noise. I got up and it was at a screen asking me to enter a pin/password and i had 0/10 attempts remaining. i didnt do anything abnormal with this phone before i went to bed, same routine as always. it must have been around 2 or 3 am when this happened. i restarted it a few times but it keeps going back to the screen with password prompt. it does mention it found a global sim card when first starting back up. also if i dont touch the screen for a while it really does start to make a consistently timed "click" sound. tried plugging into a windows 7 computer to at least get my family photos off but no dice there either.
this is my work phone and it is connected to an exchange 2010 server but the policy does not require password or encryption. Also the only other person i work with who has an android connected to that server has not had anything like this happen. no changes have been made to the policy either.
anyone ever seen this before? i can do a wipe if i have to but id really like to save those pictures and understand how and why this happened.
I went to do the factory reset and it takes me into the stock recovery. Whether I try to wipe cache or do the factory wipe I keep getting unknown error 150. It says it can't mount it open cache or some cache logs. Any thoughts?

Restore it to stock?

Thanks but I keep getting a fail error at 15 seconds using that guide. I'm wondering if my memory is totally corrupt.

so the lg flash tool fails almost right away because the erase command fails, the only way i can get adb to talk to the phone is when i choose to sideload from adb in the stock recovery options, no other adb command will even run, they all say closed. sideloading fails because it cant mount anything.
is it possibly this is actual hardware failure?
i know im a noob here, but responses arent as frequent as i had hoped. would it be wrong to repost this in the general g2 q&a section instead of here in the verizon q&a? at this point its less about saving my data and more about not being beaten if it isnt actually a hardware failure.
This must be stop or make it permanent disable… this is pretty much annoying and it kills me… everytime I open “album” this always shows… any good advise, pls, I need it badly.

Had similar issue. Not sure what helped either loading brand free firmware or reseting phone to factory default.

i had admit that i think there no solution for this for now.... what i did last night, i reformat my firmware to .105 instead, everything seems works fine, and i liked it .
Glad it helped
Solution
i had same problem on my Z2 after k.k 4.4.4 upgrade.
the final solution was very easy:
for the application Xperia extension for Throw (applications, all) must to delete data, clear cache, force stop and restart.
good luck!
Just like another user on the forum, I have a dead screen and solid blue LED always on. Is there a way to use ODIN or some other software to access the phone data via computer to backup data and also wipe? Phone is bone stock.
Thanks!!
You can try to use sidesync on the PC to connect to the phone and display it's screen on the pc to control it that way...
That would be awesome but wouldn't I need access to the phone to install sidestep and run it before I could control the phone from my pc?

Hello android geniuses! My cousin has this exact same problem right now, I came here as a last resort looking for a solution.
He broke his screen and lcd while drunk and he has insurance, but is worried about sending the phone in to be fixed/replaced because he has incriminating texts about buying drugs etc on the phone.
Is there a way to factory reset the phone with the screen broken?
My sonly uggestion atm is to reboot into recovery and try to factory reset based upon copying the button presses of a youtube video. He does not have usb debugging enabled and we can't even manage to explore his files through windows.
Thank you if you even read this, I am super grateful for any suggestions
Edit: We factory reset the phone through android device manager. OP, that might be your best bet too mate.

Maybe you can try installing sidesync through the google play store on a PC, but I don't know how you'd open the app. Maybe there's a way to use adb?
