It seems like alot of One users out there are not that keen on blinkeed, and would prefer to disable it, and for some if given the choice would rather have it removed it altogether. I have to say i like the look of blinkfeed, even though i do not own the One at present.
Is there anyone who actually likes blinkfeed, and finds it to be a useful feature??
Reason i have started this thread that there seems to be quite alot of negativity surrounding blinkfeed.
Would be very interested to hear what you guys think.
I plan on having blinkfeed as my central home screen, with regular android widget screens to the left or right.
When I need some quick info, I can either look @ the lock screen or blinkfeed, when I want to check my calendar or emails, or w.e. quickly I can just scroll left or right.
So - ye I am excited to try it out. If I end up being disappointed, then so be it. But I don't think I will be.
I like it, it's just a news aggregator for content your interested in.
Why would you not like it? It's brought up loads of articles I would of otherwise not of seen, I wish you could integrate things like BBC News etc for the UK but for the moment it's very good.
I don't get why loads of people are moaning, if you don't like it set a different screen as your 'home' but I happen to think it's a very useful function and find myself checking it quite a lot throughout the day to see 'whats new'.

I dont mind it but it doesn't update facebook or twitter properly. The apps will give me status that people have posted that the blinkfeed doesnt till later on. Thats annoying.
I use friendstream widget a lot more than i have the energy to check Facebook or Twitter apps so i expect to like blinkfeed
i just hope it includes (@connect) notifications for twitter

You will have to scroll right, because the Blinkfeed screen can't be moved. It is the first screen and that's it, any other screens you have come after it.
Definitely needs more feeds from BBC News / Sport etc. And you'd think it could tell the difference between football (soccer) and football (American)...

i always had both a 4x4 friend stream widget and a 4x4 reader widget on my phone, so im really looking forward to using blinkfeed.
it definitely needs more options from what I've heard though, cant believe bbc isnt in it!
I think that as soon as more feeds and options become available to view, it will be more popular. At the moment though its just a drain on the battery imo xD
Have to say I love blink feed so much that I have hardly used Flipboard since Friday.....it's a brilliant feature and as long as you set it up properly can be invaluable like today, didn't know Gears of War reviews were out till I saw that in the feed......normally I would have to get that info from a deeper source/app......I find it a brilliant and genuine innovative tool......
AW: Who actually likes blinkfeed?
I like it
Gesendet von meinem HTC One mit Tapatalk 2
Apple iOS reserves a whole home page just for a search bar and I see no one complaining or even talking about it but when HTC does something better with the same home page people start moaning about it. You don't have to use it and if you even don't want to see it, it's Android, just install different launcher. OMG people are just so weird.
I like it a lot. In fact it's one of the features I like the most.
I don't get why there's so much dislike on it, I think it looks great. I use Reader a lot (probably the most) and would love a fancy, good-looking way to get my feeds.
I agree though that the user should have the option to disable it. Don't like when things are forced upon.
Yeah I'm in the same boat as almost everybody else on this thread. I like BlinkFeed and I've stopped using other similar services (i.e. Flipboard, Pulse, ...) almost completely.
People don't like change I guess. It's amazing how they form an opinion before even spending 2 seconds with the product. If it were up to consumers, we'd still be using rotary phones...
I'm looking forward to it. I just hope it's customizable enough and has enough sources I'm interested in. They say they'll be opening it up to a lot more content so that sounds like I won't be disappointed.
I dont even use it lol.
I like it, i use it as my main screen.
I don't dislike it, but i don't really use it, i would like to get used to it, but i would like it as the middle screen of my homescreens, so until that is changed/fixed i will continue with Nova Launcher for now.
I just set the second 'home' screen to become my default home screen so whenever I start to use it more all I have to do is sweep to the left.

Why can't i pay $70 a month for tethering like on the iphone when i have to pay $0 on the touch pro..... some things in life aren't fair for everything else theres Steve errr Apple - http://i.gizmodo.com/5285898/bart-tears-down-dvd-jons-apple+baiting-doubletwist-ad
the iphone's a great piece of machinery and there's no denying it, but if people want something to be like an iphone than get the real thing. i hate these iphone themes and wannabe applications, so i say skip the damn aspirations to be iphone-like, or to be as cool and unique as the other millions and millions of iphone users
xda fits more for hardcore users, not sheep
Why do you all keep putting down the iphone and flaming about it when that wasn't the question? I'm also someone who likes the animations that phones like the iPhone and Palm Pre have and would love to get them on wm6.5. If the iphone had a keyboard and was on verizon, i would've went straight for it. We already know that the iphone doesn't have a keyboard and costs $75 a month so what's the point of writing that? No one's asking to turn their htc into an iphone or even copy the interface, it's just a simple question. If you don't know the answer, don't waste everyon'e time by ranting about the iphone's faults. I'd settle for just animations whether they look like the iphone/palm pre or not. It makes rotating the phone or going back to the home screen look much smoother.
Anyway, i have a question that ACTUALLY pertains to this topic. Is there a way to get the accelerometer effects like the omnia/iphone/palm pre or like Opera 9.7 when the device is turned? I like how the page kind of flips when it's rotating.
I feel for you :] I like some animations like that as well.
Granted, I'm an avid iPhone basher also, but I do like 2 things about it, and one is the animations and visual effects.
...the other is the capacitive touch screen. But, hey, they can't use their phone with a glove on. ;]
thank u! u understand what am saying i love my htc but **** come with some cool animations that all am saying!!
Wouldn't it be possible to design a Flash based menu system?
EDIT:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/1...comes-freestyl-windows-mobile-program-launch/
some iphone interfaces do have animations
and if you want the palm pre interface for opening apps that are up you can combine butler with taskfacade. both which were out before web os was announced
butler turns your capacitive area into an app launcher
and taskfacade can be mapped to one of the areas and it will animate zooming out of the app and show all that are open. pretty snazzy

Do you also believe that if you want to edit video and photos, you need to get a Mac....If you're going to set up a file server, set up a linux box....and if you're going to type up a report for your boss, you need to have windows? I'm pretty sure all three OS's can accomplish each of those tasks, even if one may have a slight edge on another (even if only by stereotype). If everybody thought like that, there wouldn't even be standard Desktop Linux users.
The notion of having some animation on the screen shouldn't be limited to a few specific handsets. We have the technology, we just have to make it work the way we want.

I agree to an extent, I think those mock iPhone apps are useless, but that's because I think the iPhone interface is useless. I prefer to think those apps exist for another reason...to show iPhone users that there's nothing special or cool about their phone. I like being able to say, "I can do everything your phone can, but can your phone do this?" At that point, I can show off the other home screens, interfaces, and tools that they can never aspire towards because of the mountains of limits put on their phones.
The home screen on the iPhone sucks, we all know this...but it's made cool to the millions because of a few simple animations. The complainers on this thread are ignoring how much more appeal can be gained with such small improvements. Just think about the incredibly simple animations they use, and how easy some of them would be to duplicate (or improve upon).
Alright, I've probably said too much...I'll go sit down and shut up...

very well said. i feel the same way and think that the touch pro definately has the specs to be able to do simple animations like fading in and out of applications. im kind of glad the iphone's home screen is just a boring app launcher. Now if it was able to run plug ins like tf3d and spb mobile shell, windows mobile may be in trouble
why is the iphone mentioned here? the iphone has over (IDK) generations and they all look alike nothing different and just plain boring, i mean it has one main button and the apps are just lined up! "TALK ABOUT A BORING UI"
If you really want animations, you sadly need to look for 3rd party software. Who knows maybe it'll be built into WinMo 7 but for the time being, cool "Iphone-esque" animations can be acquired by using SPB mobile shell. It doesn't necissarily have the same sliding animations, but it does give you a carosel(sp) and shifting block menu animations. Sorry I can't post screen shots, I just recently removed it cuz I couldn't get the weather to work right LOL. But aside from that... You can take one or the other and at the risk of sounding overly cliched, you can't have your cake and eat it....
On a side note... We were having Palm Pre training, and my trainer was bashing the Iphone left n right. It was actually pretty funny. He referred to it as "nothing more than a glorified paperweight for the A.D.D. generation incapable of performing any task without the use of an application". I felt pretty stupid tho cuz half of the applications he was talking about I have on my Touch Pro. Hehehe....

I've used SPB for some time now on my Loox and I enjoy it very much. The new 3.0 is a great piece of work but like you mentioned it is still buggy.... The thing that gets me are the graphics! Why don't they develop skins for the shell??? You, I, he, they all have different likes and dislikes and ideas on how our systems should look and feel. If SPB would design a more user friendly version of the Shell it would definitely end up on everybodys mobile.

Anyone know anything about this program? I looks pretty cool. Maybe you can take a web page and chop it up into a widget. That would be my hopes for it....

Wow, zero replies. Guess its not a very good post.
Looks to simple
Ill give it a try and see how it goes.
So far the web Grabber is not working
"Unable to clip content"
Still trying More.
Looks like an easy way for someone to rip off someone else's hard work. Honestly, they even tell you to just copy the code for a widget into it and create an app from it. No mention of intellectual property anywhere.
Yeh pretty much.
Good for people that want website code as an app.
But to be honest its pretty crap...all it does is load a Frame with the webcontent in it.

Wow, that is some brilliant programming you did there, LOL!
Seriously, you are right. For that use it is almost decent (although their ad banner is a bit large). I just created a couple to check my area traffic cams with, much easier than opening the browser and going to the sites.
Could be fun to mess with.
it would actually be cool if it did what it said it does...
ie make Widgets...
But it doesnt..
Yah, i finally got a chance to try it out. Im sure there are some people who might like it. Its not what i had in mind though. I really need something that will display web content via a widget. Not an app, thats for sure.
I agree that it doesn't do as advertised, but it can really be handy. Just created an "app" for my favorite streaming radio station. Another for Hulu. It works really well!

Great Radon,

Hi guys,
My name is Andrew, I'm CMO at AppsGeyser.
roguey, I really can't find where you saw that we talked about making widgets for mobile? Please point me.
we convert web widgets to apps, but we don't make mobile widgets. We do not offer anything that we are not really able to do, that's no any sense to start business on lie.
Our platform is not for someone who can use Eclipse and make an app for Android. We help those who have a website and barely or strong enough know HTML. You can quickly build an app. Some users use our platform to build proof of concept. Some just wrap up website and have great results, we constantly publish case studies on our blog.
nunjabusiness, we care about IP and sure we have a mention in our terms that users have to have all required copyright on all content they submit. If we have abuse from legal content owner we are shutting down the app.

Hi Andrew, welcome.
Yes, I did eventually read the T&C and see that you covered that. That is good. Problem I had is that IE9 really doesn't like your site and until I used Firefox I wasn't even able to get started in the creation process to see the T&C. Maybe put a small disclaimer on the main page?
Roguey, sorry but it is a WAY different process to widgetize an app. What they are offering is the opposite, which I honestly can't see any real value in at this point. I (and thousands of other people) would also like this ability and if it were easy, there would already be a way to do it. My understanding is that it is almost as difficult as writing the whole app from scratch.
I do, however, like the ability to turn a website into an "app" even though I could not get the engine to clip anything of value. I was limited to whole sites only for some reason. I am sure it is website-specific and the way the page is set up may keep them from properly capturing the part of the page I want.
It doesnt matter if its a different process.
Its possible, they just need the time do it...
Hi roquey,
Thanks for this brilliant idea, we'll definitely consider it.
What content you wanted to see as a widget?

I would like the abilty to make my own widget to show weather, ie capture a frame from a weather site. Have the option to Have the widget refresh from the net every 15 minutes - hourly, depending on what you want.
Its pretty endless really, Basiclly what your app does now but show it in widget form.
Prob keep the widget size to 4*2 in size, or if u can let the user choose, depending on the size of the frame that is needed to be captured.
There are already more than enough weather widgets, IMHO.
However, a resizable widget that will display (and auto-update) a definable segment of a web page is absolutely something I would pay money for.
Web Clip Widget Trial claims to do this, but I cannot get it to actually display any pages for me yet.
Andrew - It seems to me (a non-programmer) that embedding a webview with the webkit browser engine should be pretty easily doable. The key I think is to be able to snip a section of the page to display with no extraneous graphical elements.
I found this example code http://mobile.tutsplus.com/tutorials/android/android-sdk-embed-a-webview-with-the-webkit-engine/ in fact, I found a ton of tutorials to show how a developer would do this ... but no actual downloadable widget to accomplish it.
From what I can gather, you usually call webview with a specific url to display something in the app so I guess the hardest part would be making an interface to pass that info to the widget and then refresh on interval.
+1 for web clipping widget.....that works.
nunjabusiness
And it matters that there are lots of Weather widgets because???
That would be what i would use it for...i know tons of websites that **** all over fancy widget and the like.
It wouldnt be just weather widgets aswelll...

Easy answer? Unfortunately... It's no.
Aloha,
I forgot you couldn't do this. I forgot because I loaded up the homepage I wanted and pinned it to the homescreen and removed IE.
Do you think that will help?
That sounds easy enough. This is a much different, albeit smoother beast than Android. I have been an avid Android user for going on three years now. I got the opportunity the other day to get an HTC 8X on VZW for 100 bucks, so I scooped it up. I really like the platform, it is a refreshing change from the same old with Android. I still have a Note 2, but I really like WP8. I must have spent 20 minutes looking for a way to change the homepage though.
It seems like there are a lot of basic, common sense things that are missing from WP8; setting the home page is a big one. I also wish there was tabbed browsing, but I'm sure that horse has been beaten dead at this point. I'm also perplexed by the lack of super popular apps. For instance, I can't find a Pulse News App on WP8. That app is HUGE on Android and iOS, yet it is nowhere to be found in the store, Oh well, I think I'll take your advice and pin the homepage I want to the home screen.
I don't remember we have a default homepage on IE Mobile, lol.
about:blank is all we have.
It didn't bother me tho.
You should check out uc browser for tabs.

I, personally, will be trying it out. I don't think there is any harm in giving it a go, if it's fluid and fast I don't see the problem. The only thing I can say in regards to it not being released on the One, is possibly HTC's secrecy over the device. I highly doubt HTC would want to risk a full-device leak, though we had plenty during development probably just doesn't support 1080P, as it's not on the DNA either.

Facebook have teamed up with Qualcomm to optimize and make the launcher much more power efficient. It should use minimum RAM and minimum battery when operating on a Qualcomm device, which is the HTC One .
Stop hating people, you have a choice weather you get it or not. This is Android, not iOS.
@jaaystott I totally agree with you
I dont understand whats with this hate of FB apps: ok i get you dont use FB, you dont like being ''spied'' by the FBI etc but i am talking about a new development here
is hybrid between an app and a OS..it could bring improvements or not, thats to find out
also im pretty sure 90% of the one's yelling they dont use fb or will download, will at a point download it and try it....lets face it, and stop being so precious
There has been a lot of work involved in developing this hybrid and the fact that they choose HTC to deploy it, should mean we will get the best of it
of course no one is forcing you to use it or try it, but dont make everyone who is curios or wants to try it - feel like they are somewhat weird
I am very interested to try to lockscreen, because lockscreens on android are horrible. yes there are so many themes and cool looking ones.. but functionality wise, they alls suck! why iOS shows all notifications from all apps i choose and then i can just open the ones i like. on android its a mixed experience. some apps shows. some dont.. (gmail doesnt for example). Facebook seems to solved this problem by merging all notification on their homescreen and make it more useful.
I really want to try it, and like the idea, although, in the downloadable version, it will block android notifications (sms, email, apps), which i personally think is a stupid idea, so in order to get it at any realistically usable level, we'd need a port of the first's rom.
http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2013/04/facebook-home-download-ignores-androids-notifications/
Blinkfeed surely is enough. It's bad enough on there

Coming from the Nexus 4, which I loved and Jelly Bean, I just received my Nexus 5 yesterday and have some disappointments. Let me know if you guys agree and if I'm overlooking anything and can fix.
1 FIXED - Ok, Google sucks at making home screen launchers, apparently. I have to use an aftermarket app for my home screen) I LOVE Google Now. I used it quite a bit on my Nexus 4 by holding the home button and swiping up. Now they made it so Google Now is locked on the left side. WTF? I loved having my "home" screen in the middle, with two screens on the left and two on the right. I had a Trip It widget and Keep widget on the left, each on their own screen. I had some other often used apps on the right and my Calendar widget each on their own on the right. No screen was more than two swipes away. Now I have to swipe 4 screens to the right to get to my last one. That sucks. I can turn Google Now off to get my screens back, but then I don't have Google Now at all. This sucks, Google. What are you thinking?
2) I thought it made total sense to have the Play Store link right above the apps in the app drawer. When someone would ask, "do you have XXXX app?" I'd look and if I didn't, I could touch right there to enter the Play Store and download. Now, I have to scroll to find the Play Store app icon. Or put it on one of my screens. This seems like they're going backward here. Why remove that? To make it prettier? Aesthetics over functionality.
3 FIXED!) I love talking to my phone and used voice to text quite often. Now when I go to text someone, I can't see the mic anywhere on the keyboard. Really? Why did they rearrange the keyboard and remove this? Oh, now I get all these cute smiley faces and crap I'll NEVER use, but the mic is gone. Why?
4) Speaking of rearranged keyboard layouts, why change it up? I was pretty used to my Jelly Bean keyboard. Now they rearranged the exclamation point to the other side. And maybe others. I can't recall exactly until I start texting and hit a wrong key, pressing something which used to be another symbol. I'll eventually get used to that, but why change it? It was fine as it was.
5) HUGE icons. Why? To look my iPhone(ish)? Jelly Bean had 5 rows of 5. Now we get huge icons and 5 rows of 4. Not a huge deal, but if you have a bunch of apps, it takes longer to scroll through them all and you can't fit as many of your most used on one screen.
6) I love the home screen rotate on my Nexus 7. Google never thought to add this to the Nexus 4. And now it's not on the Nexus 5 either. I've used an app called "Rotate" to perform this and loved it, but now that Kit Kat extends the background to show behind the toolbars (which I love the look of, by the way), when I use "Rotate" to flip the home screen when I hold the phone horizontally, that black bar shows on the right. Again, not a huge problem here and maybe Rotate will update to a Kit Kat compatible version, but why doesn't Google add this functionality out of the box for its Nexus phones when they do it for the Nexus 7?
7) The notification sounds seem even quieter than the Nexus 4, which wasn't the loudest ever. I always turn vibrate on text OFF so when I'm texting back and forth, it's not unnecessarily wasting battery. But in doing so, I could most times hear my Nexus 4 chime when in my pocket. Not with the 5. I find myself pulling it out of my pocket every 15 mins to see if I missed any calls, emails or texts. I guess I'll have to turn on the notification vibration and sacrifice battery life, but that's lame.
If I'm overlooking anything which fixes any of these, please advise!
Oh well.

I have similar disappointments. Mainly the lack of the store in the top of the app drawer.

The mic is there, I've just double checked on my nexus 5.
Are you sure you didn't disable it yourself in input settings ?
It seems like people are just trying to find things to complain about now.

That's what I was hoping I did by accident, but I can't see where I would have. In settings > language & input > google keyboard settings, I have the
"voice input key" checked. I assumed that's what I need. I unchecked it, looked and the mic wasn't there. I re-checked it, looked and the mic isn't there. What am I overlooking?

Yep, it's there. Make sure "Google voice typing" is checked under language and input
EDIT: Don't click on Google keyboard, look down a few and check Google voice typing
I seriously don't want to man. I loved the Nexus 4 and was SO excited with this. But when you're used to things and they change for the worse (my opinion, things that are USEFUL to me), it's more than annoying, it's a real issue. 1, 2, 3 and 7 are all big deals to me. 1 - It makes the phone less simple. Most actions needed to get to what I use. 2 - same as 1, more steps needed to get to the Play Store. 3 - hopefully I'm overlooking something, but speaking my texts to my phone saved me A LOT of texting time. 7 - a ****ty speaker means I can't hear maps directions and have to look down at my phone more. That's not something I'm just trying to find an issue with, it's a real issue.

Hell yeah. Thanks bro. I don't know how I overlooked that. Ok, that's one problem down! Fixes for the others, guys?
P.S. - This 5 minute between posts thing for new users blows. Verify me, mods.

As for the speaker - I'm not sure what the complaints are about. It blows away my S3's and every other phone I've had...
Another one of these threads....#2 really? This is something to complain about.
I don't use Samsung products because I hate Touch Wiz and all the other bloatware on it. Yeah, I know it can be unlocked and modded, but I don't get into all of that. I came from an EVO 4G and liked it a lot, but once I got my Nexus 4, I could never go back to a phone with HTC Sense. The speaker was far better on the EVO though than the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5, to me, seems even quieter.

I kinda do agree with you on 1). I felt uncomfortable when first started to use Nexus 5 because I had a similar screens setup to yours on S4.
But I've changed my habits pretty quickly. Although I'm only using Calendar widget that occupies whole screen and one more screen (apart from home) for apps.
Why can't you just change your launcher and swipe up to open Google now.
These complaints are seriously getting out of control. Android is about options. If you don't like the way something acts, use something else. If you don't like the keyboard, use another one!
Yep. It's going backward in features. That was useful as hell. If you never used it, ok, but give me something to make things easier, I get used to it and dig it. Take it away and I'm annoyed. Why take it away? It reminds me of the "new" Google Maps. They took away a few features that I LOVED.
I'm tied into Google. I use a lot of their offerings. But I'm not going to blindly defend everything they throw out, I'm going to honestly say what I like and dislike.

This. FFS stop complaining. Before long people are gonna start saying you're apple fan boys posting to start drama.

Can I have your Nexus 5 then?
Cool, suggest something for me, please. I don't like screwing with things too much, I like vanilla Android as Google intended. But I liked Jelly Bean Android. Kit Kat feels less intuitive. I know Android is all about the ability to be free and have different choices, but the reason I got rid of my HTC EVO was because I hate skins and crap on my Android. I just want it plain and yummy. If there's an alternative launcher that looks just like Jelly Bean, sweet, I'm all in. I just don't want it to give completely different functionality in other ways.

Nova Launcher
I'm actually considering going back to my Nexus 4 and selling this. Obviously, I won't be jumping to Kit Kat when it's available on the N4.
But this is why I post - maybe there are fixes.
And guys, aren't these forums about helping? No, I don't use Apple products. Nothing against 'em, but I'm tied into Google and don't care to switch. I just loved most everything about my Nexus 4 and was hoping to love the 5 even more.
