Hi all
I have just bought a Note with GB 2.3.6 on it. I have read the thread in android section about rooting but am confused as all hell and I can't find the section about rooting 2.3.6, I have kernel LA6.
Can someone point me in the right direction please?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
try option 3 because you have Newer Gingerbread ROM (non rootable directly)

No, not point to them. They still "offer" cwm.zip as a method to root your N7000. They never changed this (looke here).
Why do you redirect a member from XDA to another forum/blog etc?
For gb he could still use the abyss kernel, and su which is discribed step by step @ rootgalaxynote.com
I dont need a reason to post references.

Please forgive me if this question is one which has been asked a lot; I've searched around but I'm finding a lot of conflicting information.
Exactly how do you safely flash from stock ICS (4.0.0.4; unrooted) to a new rom (for example, I'm looking at going to a CM10 rom)?
Some guides seem to say:
1) Flash a safe kernel using ODIN (I was looking at Hydrocore)
2) Flash back to a pre-rooted gingerbread rom using ODIN (e.g http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025)
3) Flash the rom you're interested in using ODIN
Or perhaps I only need to do steps 1 & 3?
Thanks!
You need to do the 1st and 3rd steps.

Also once you have flashed a safe kernel you can flash the new ROM in recovery.

1. Xxlsa is not a stock rom. It's a leak. 4.0.4 is a stock rom
2. If it's running xxlsa it could be root d as well. Can check by installing root checker or if super user or supersu is there.
3. Is cwm already there.?
i just bought a new phone. Iam bored with android 2.3 since i previously had galaxy y
jelly bean is not released in my country
So visited Samsung-updates .com and downloaded latest Russian firmware
can you guide me to install this on my phone .
Also, its new phone and iam afraid it will damage my phone in any way
please advice.

Put the downloaded firmware in the pda section of the Odin and flash! It will not damage your phone unless you mess up with the flashing process

yes, i have done it in my galaxy y
but what's binary counter
For your primary question, follow my GB to JB Custom ROM guide, link in my signature...
if you just want stock jelly bean, and you don't want to root, or install a custom kernel or ROM, stop after section A.
Many Samsung devices store a flash counter that keeps track of how many times you have flashed custom*firmwares to your device.*And that counter is the binary counter..if binary counter is anything other than zero Sammy guys MAY refuse to service your phone.. But don't worry.. We already have an app to reset the binary counter back to zero

Hello guys,
I use Galaxy Note-N7000 and the issue with my device is ever since I upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.2,my device has slowed down,I am now starting to think its because of Note unable to handle Jelly Bean.I even tried factory resetting and re-installing Jelly bean a couple of times, but it hasnt helped.I also see RAM consumption being very high with only a few apps on my device.
What could be slowing down my device?I was told Kernels speed up our devices, will it work?If so can you guys recommend me any good kernels and steps to install them?
I would really appreciate any help, guys. Please be kind
Thank you!
That's normal. Whether use ics or higher than 4.1.2.
It will always lag.
To flash custom kernel do it via Odin or root Your phone and install kernel from cwm.

Stock samsung jb ate bloated to the max and buggy as hell. There's no fixing it, that's just how they are. Try a custom rom for better performance on jb.

Flashing through Odin shouldn't need root, just USB debugging enabled. I have never flashed anything via goo manager, but if You will get the flashable file You will be able to flash it then. And it will change the cwm.
To download kernels just go to android development section for our service and search the forum for "kernel" in the topic. Our You can also Google "kernel n7000"
