I know the previous thread was closed that I was reading but this may give piece of mind.
I came across a thread on here seeing if anyone else had the rattling phone issue, there were 11 pages about people saying its the camera. I found that it is the SIM door lever (little spot you push to eject the SIM card),
I took a small piece of paper, plugged it, shook it, and NO rattle.
There's a video in spanish I think on xda showing it's the sim tray that makes the noise when u shake it

I cant speak Spanish  JK, Just got excited when I found it, figured I'd share.
Mine rattles when I tap it against my hand, but not when I shake it. I figured it was the camera too.

There are two types of rattle. One from camera on from the tray. Mine is from camera, as i did check when i took it apart to do thermal mod.

Hey guys
Just signed up to the forums
I got my nexus 4 on Saturday after being a 5 to 6 weeker and receiving my phone 3 and a half weeks in... As you may gather I was really chuffed
I love the phone but I want to know if other people with the phone can hear a tiny rattling near the top of the phone as you shake it?
I got a bit anxious when I heard it on mine... Then I shook my cousins nexus a bit and it made the same sound.... That made me feel a bit better but still want to know if it is a normal sound 2 hear
Thanks

A couple threads about this already.

Recently noticed a slight buzzing sound coming from just behind the Xperia logo on the back of the Z when you knock on it (or place it on a table). When I asked the guys at the Sony store, it turns out that all the Xperia Z models there all have that buzz when you knock on it. Can anyone else confirm if they've got this too?

After reading you post I tried knocking on the back at the center but no, I don't hear any buzzing sound

Really? It's not very loud so if you hit the back with your fingernails, it's almost inaudible, but if you use the meat of your fingers, it becomes distinctive. I hope it's not just my country that gets these ones...

I tried a couple time with harder impact and I think I now understand what you were talking about. It's a buzzing sound indeed, but mine is quite minimal,(almost like you have to listen to it extremely carefully) I would say those are the sounds from the glass and the thing whatever it is contacting with.
My phone is naked without any case or shield, but I never hear these buzzing sounds ever when I put the phone on the table.

Ah yeah, that's the sort of thing mine is giving off, although mine buzzes when I put it on a table. Must be a design flaw on Xperia Z models or something
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
I put the phone close to my ears and hit the screen with my fingers with a fair amount of strength. No buzzing whatsoever.
It seems to be occurring nearer to the camera lens than the Xperia logo. Where did you get yours, and when was it manufactured?

Beating the sh*t out of mine ... didn't hear any buzzing sound but now my glass is broken ...... sorry just kidding I just hear a "tick" which comes from the cameralens i assume.
No buzzing or sound on mine.

Oh actually that would make sense. It does seem like something around the camera lens is loose, so that could possibly be the cause...
Seems like there are certain ones which do have a loose camera lens and some that don't. Does anyone know if they would exchange mine for a new one if I can prove that it's a bit of a manufacturing flaw? Mine buzzes quite a lot and it's driving me crazy...
I think that the powerbutton makes the sound. Maybe it is a little bit loose?
Nah it's definitely coming from around the camera
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
Me too i have a little buzz next to the camera but i think it's the camera's auto focus.annoying but not a big deal.

Well actually this is correcly designed. The cameralens is kind of "loose" because of the "focus" functionality.
Just found it a bit strange as I've never seen (or heard rather) camera lenses that have moved around within itself...
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
It's the autofocus. Absolutely normal, all phones have this.
Do you also hear a small loose part moving somewhere near beneath the camera when you shake your phone? No big deal but just wondering if normal...

I've heard sometimes the SIM card slot could shake?
Maybe. Idk.
Tried shaking the phone close to my ear, heard some sound, got scared as hell. Realized it was just my phone brushing against my hair >___>
Still do hear something. Best guess: vibration motor or sim card moving around in the slot.
Might just be the camera itself rattling. It moves a bit because of the image stabilization feature. Its the same reason why you hear a small click when you first start up the camera.
If you're talking about a noise around the camera specifically, almost like a buzz/vibration, then yes, I have that and so did my Inspire 4G. Same sounds that after this phone having it, assumed it isn't anything too abnormal if both of them did it.
Well, to clarify, if I tap my finger around the top, it's a buzz, but if you just shake it, it's more of a click.
It's the auto focus mechanism in the camera. Nothing to worry about. Totally normal.
There was a big hey-ho about it when the iPhone 4 was released.

So I know this has been discussed many times already but i am appalled at Google's customer "service". My nexus 5 has the rattle issue pretty bad and also the sim tray protrudes. I contacted Google regarding the issue and they responded by saying this is normal and we wont replace???? Anyone else had this problem?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I think they've been told not to RMA the phones now for what is widely considered to be 'manufacturing differences'. Could be wrong, though
Just say it overheats and you're scared that it might hurt you.
Give it a bit before you do though because all chat logs are saved and they will know you're lying..

I had a fantastic customer service experience when I RMA'd my phone. My micro USB chord would not stay in the phone and came out very easily. The service agent was courteous, professional and pleasant.
I think they've had too many people using the "button rattle" to just get a newer phone. Can't say as I blame them.
So you tried to report two non issues as a reasons to get an RMA and you were denied?
Glad to see Google reps doing their job properly.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
What do you mean that the sim tray protrudes? That it doesn't close fully and sticks out more than the power button? Or it sticks out less than that?
I'm glad they aren't RMA'ing for rattles. You will be hard pressed to find a smart phone that doesn't rattle. I think after the Nexus 4 debacle with so many people returning them, they changed their stance to stop a lot of frivolous returns. So many people try to abuse the system (and even a poster in this thread encouraged lying) that it makes it hard for people who might have legitimate problems.
Good.
Put your phone in a case. Both issues solved

My buttons rattle.
Why would I RMA it?
So you're disgusted with google for not giving you a new phone when there's nothing wrong with your current phone? Is that what we're supposed to understand here?
K.
Stand by for threads complaining about google not doing rmas to get a red Nexus 5.

I just bought this phone but the Nexus logo on the back goes in a bit when I apply pressure. Is that normal?

Yup. Mine does that, but only when I actually press on it. If you really don't like it, just take the back off and put some thin foam or something under the back.

Thanks. I noticed the problem yesterday and it worried me a bit. I won't look too much into it. :good:
Mine rattled it bugged me so I opened the phone and fixed it. No issues since.

I had this issue on my first device. It was out a bit, but no way near the power button. It wasn't flush thou. But I didn't RMA for this. I RMA for faulty LCD. Orange spot appeared on my screen.

It didn't start being blurry until I flashed the firmware but I'm not sure how long after. I have been on Bad Boyz since it was available and never had this issue.

I think this might be a problem, I remember reading on here that someone else's camera did the same thing but I can't find the post.
I guess I'll just go back to stock and take it to Sprint

It seems like this is a common issue with no other fix that I can find besides taking it to Sprint. I will post if I find any additional solutions.
Found a fix by searching Google and it really
worked, a drop of water and scrape the lens with the corner of a credit card.

That's great mine has been a little blurry gonna try it when I get home thanks
Mine got foggy too. Keep mine in a case and in my front pocket without anything else. Still got all scratched up. Read HTC has put a coating on the lenses for what ever reason.
I placed a small dab of toothpaste with an even smaller dab of water and rubbed on the lens very lightly. First time almost got it 100%, second time did it. Pulled the coating off nicely. Pictures are really clear again.
I've also read rubbing alcohol and Q-tips will do the trick.
Sweet I'm not crazy then it does have a coating on it
camera film
Thanks for the great tip....it worked like CHARM,
