I can confirm that Xperia V has different screens too. It's exactly the same case as Xperia TX. There are two panels, one made in China with mediocre viewing angles and poor contrast and other made by SONY with excellent viewing angles and great contrast.
For checking what do you have (root required):
- Download Terminal Emulator
- Type su (Permission grant)
- Type dmesg
- Found panel vendor

Ok, so it seems that there's three different panels
Well, I can't find mine :|
if I search for string mipi, just get the result: ECO MODE OFF
if I search for string panel, I get no result ...
But I have heard my friends in VN said that V has some kinds of screen too
Mine shows great black , not grey
You can't find it because dmesg is a queue, and as such, has very limited size.
If you need boot-time messages, you have to fetch them after a restart.

And how?
Sorry, I don't notice this word: "after".
Using dmesg as explained above.
You could also do
Code:
$ su
# dmesg > /sdcard1/dmesg.txt
# exit
$ exit
and simply view the dmesg.txt file on your SD card from your PC.
“dmesg > /sdcard1/dmesg.txt” redirects the output of dmesg to the file dmesg.txt in /sdcard1/ which is the SD card on 9.1.x. With 9.0.x you probably would need to use /sdcard_ext/ instead?
If you do “dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt” the file will be stored in the phone's internal memory.

Hi!
I'm about to buy an xperia v. Can you guys investigate the differences between screen types? It would be also halpful to know how can we distinguish between them without reading the log. (Since i want to check it at the store.)
Thank you guys!

I have a feeling that the screens are different depending on what countries you live in. Don't know witch country has what screen.
I am from Sweden and have a Sharp screen. I am satisfied with the sharp screen, good blacks and god weaving angles.
But it would be very interesting to see a side by side between all the tree screens.

I'm from hungary and unfortunately V is not distributed here officially, so i could probably get my hands on an asian import. It would be good to know which countries got which screen.
Does the phone have to be rooted?
But well, to me it has excellent viewing angles, so I assume it's Sony.
Also, if you check different review sites, some say the screen is amazing with great angles, others say the viewing angles suck, so even review units were different, I think the units were distributed randomly tbh

As you can see, this lucky guy managed to get and use the Nexus already. Discuss!
Probably a store manager who demo'ed it to some employees. There are additional apps, which shows at least a decent amount of time with the device. Perhaps someone carrying it around as a teaching tool?
I'm hoping it's there already though. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to go there (Heerhugowaard) and snoop around with some of the more knowledgeable-looking employees.

On my monitor it doesn't look that black, compared to the bezel. The Gnex in that sort of lighting would appear ink black.

I've heard this is the best screen for smartphones ever (on the optimus G, I guess its the same one..). So it should be amazing on blacks, whites, and everything in the middle. Oh, and super bright too!
Damn, it does indeed look like an AMOLED in terms of contrast!

Check out this table and see for yourself. It's definitely not capable of showing true black, but that was to be expected. The Nex4 does indeed sport the same screen as the [scratch Gnex, stupid me] Optimus G.
Edit: ^
Remember though, LCD screens will be blacker in light areas, but in a dark room it will show that off black we see, more like grey.
On the second photo, there's a folder named 'LG' on the homescreen. That's not bloatware is it??

Is that a typo? Surely the Nex4 is nothing like the Gnex. I, for one, will glad to see something similar to the One X, which many declare has the best screen of any smartphone.

Hello,
My friend and I bought 2 XPERIA TX, I noticed that his screen looks better than mine, it's very clear that his viewing angles is also better than mine.
When I looked into the software info for both phones, I found one difference.
It's the Touch Firmware Version, mine is c while his is b.
Both phones are HK version, but my phone is ZH/EN and his phone is HK/CH
This is really makes me so angry
Here are two screen shots for software info from our phones.
I don't think that alone proves it's a completely difference screen. I think the touch screen digitizer is different compared to the screen itself. How did you get to the software info screen? I want to know what my version is as well.

Mine is version B, and I gotta say my screen looks pretty good.
What do you mean by better? Take some pictures or sth.
Tbh no phones are made perfect, so why complain? You're already better than people who has defected phones.

Better means better, specially in viewing angles, the phone with b firmware has much better viewing angles than c.
Defected phones are not my concern here, if I got a defected phone I'll go to SONY Service Center, that's easy.
BTW I'm a SONY fan, and I love my TX, it's really a great phone, and in general it 's better than One X and SGS III.
But if SONY is releasing the handset with different hardware, they should state it and discriminate between them.
The difference between touch firmware versions means that we have 2 different touch panels ( digitizers ).
I hope you got it now.
Mine is C, and overall the screen it's ok, but yes, the viewing angles are very poor.

SO it s not normal ask sony for replacement.
However u must not have any effect and reflect and ... on screen with high density of pixel.
It is completely normal, it's part of the touchscreen digitizer. It's visible on almost all phones under strong light. I could see it on my S, Arc (S) and Neo too.

There's not one setting that's going to work from one device to another. The panels are just too inconsistent in terms of their color reproduction, and this is no knock on JDI or the OPO, because ALL devices suffer from this in the real world. It's just a fact that there's no 100% reliable way to make the same levels come out of two different panels to the point where the same settings will produce the same effect. That's why professional calibration of displays isn't just based on plugging in some numbers and bam!
To do it right takes time to measure each display, and adjust all the peramiters for the individual characteristics of the panel. There is no one size fits all setting.

Trial and error is the only way (outside of professional calibration) to find what works. I just wanted to warn people not to blindly trust the settings, or to think that they'll work for them, because they don't work from unit to unit.

I got a moto X a week or so ago and have notice faint lines running mostly vertically but also horizontally in the display, mostly visible in solid grays and white. I did my research and know that this is an issue with the manufacturing process of this generation of AMOLED, but I'm wondering if this will be prevalent in every single moto x or if it's just that some are worse than others (worth an exchange?)? Coming from an HTC M8 on another carrier, the fact that these solid colors look so weird with the line running through them is very disappointing (otherwise I actually like the phone better). I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

I just filled my screen with white looking for these lines and couldn't find anything. Probably a defect. Contact Motorola.
Easiest ways see it is to download the LCD test app and display full screen gray. If you don't see it, then I definitely have an issue because it looks like a textured background rather than solid color.
