Terrible advice. Don't try it unless it was confirmed to work on this device.

Tbh. You don't know if it works, unless somebody has tried it.
But yeah, don't try it.

Yeah try it and let me know because I want to root without unlocking BL On a serious note, has a HTC device ever been rooted without unlocking the BL? The XZ has just been so was wondering.
id say just wait. why would you risk bricking your phone. be patient and root will come pretty soon.

A lot of them, AT&T blocked the boot loader unlock on the one x so we have to root it to get supercid to unlock it

R: [Q] Does this root method works on HTC ONE M7?
I've read the bat script.
It create a symlink to local.prop.
Then it restore an adb backup that create the local.prop thru the symlink.
Finally after the reboot with elevated adb thanks TO local.prop is written the su binary.
I think this method may work with few risks.

any risk of bricking the phone on this non HTC Dev method?

i guess it has been done so before without HTC dev on HTC wildfire S
Bin4rys root method has been out for a while now and is a pretty safe, clean method.
Problem is our kernal has wp on /system so it will not work. Even if you found a method to get su binary in your xbin folder it still would never be able to have the proper permissions to function correctly. The only way your going to get a functional root is to unlock the bootloader.

Anybody got any advice on how to root my inc s ? Do I need to wait for somebody cleaverer than me to come up with a guide specifically for this phone, or could I just follow one of the guides for another HTC phone ?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
That actually depends on how brave are you you can test different rooting methods like Super One Click etc. but if you end up with a brick, then you are the only one responsible.
Yeh, not that brave yet, only had the phone for a day, think Ill wait a while

I just tried to root my IncS by using the unrEVOked method, but got an error message saying 'vivo not supported at this time'. Hope the guys at unrEVOked will add support soon.
Slightly OT but as as the general section is quiet (early days) would any of you lucky Incredible S owners care to take a look and offer your comments on my post / questions HERE?
Thanks and apologies for the OT post.
Edit: Forget this - I now know the answer!
what is the price you got your Incredible S?

When i had my phone for just half a day, i already tried to root it, with 2 difrent programs, did work though =(
Moved this to general
Currently there is no method of rooting, still busy with this one.
All previous exploits are out of the question, only temproot trough psneuter is useable. RageAgainstTheCage dont work.
Were (l0st.pr0phet and mainly scotty2) currently trying all we can to root this one, but HTC gives us a pretty hard time. And maybe there is no way of rooting... but that is something we will found out then.
See ya soon!
Good luck and thanks for the update.

Just an update:
First of all: tnx scotty2 for all the work you do!
Second: no root yet. Were still figuring what can be done, most of the things that worked on other devices don't work, only the temp root works until now

How to do a temp root?
Psneuter exploit. It's in superoneclick.
You don't have write permission in the system partition because of the nand-lock. Still working on that.
So currently its kinda useless, except for debugging and that kinda stuff, apps like root explorer probably won't work.

Yes just picked mine up today. Would love to know how to root this device also.
With this phone being released on AT&T on November 6th there will most certainly be a tremendous increase in the desire for root and dev involvement. It won't be long before this phone has it's own forum and a whole lot of XDA love. I'm one of the many that has been waiting for this phone to come out since it was leaked back in May and I can hardly wait to get my hands on one!
Adding support to this thread. Would love to get root for my Raider! Will also help out this process in anyway I can.

Does the raider/vivid have the ability to do HDMI out?
it has a mhl port which is physically identical to a micro usb, it does do hdmi out but you need an adapter
google mhl to hdmi and it will all come up
Do we know if the boot loader is locked or unlocked?
Add your vote here to get an HTC Holiday/Raider/Vivid forum added.
Anyone try the regular rooting methods

Hi everyone,
I read on other forums that the Optimus 4X bootloader is locked!
means it will be impossible to make the root or something needs to unlock it and then make the root?
Very interesting information, so does have Optimus 4X really locked bootloader?
Or where do you read about it?
Thanks.
Yes, where did you read this?

My question was whether the locked bootloader means that there will never be the root...
I understand, but my reaction was on the post from axepted, if he mented "yes" on the fact that the Optimus 4X have locked bootloader.
So, the question is still here: do Optimus 4X have a locked bootloader?
Even if it is locked, it doesn't mean root is impossible.
The HTC Sensation had a locked bootloader and we still got root

I've been a heavy user of Android for a few years, and flashed several roms, mods and kernels on my LG P500 and my friend's phones. But this phone is a bit different from the other ones i've used, and my budget is a bit low, so i'm afraid of screwing up. What i need is to somebody to help me, with the requirements i need and the process of rooting this phone. Any help of someone who is already rooted would be appreciated. Regards, AnonymRocker.
Just unlock the bootloader and use this tool
http://www.batakang.com/ftp/RAZRi/RootUtility/RAZRi_Root_Windows.zip
Hi TheAnonymRocker
For this phone I tried several rooters but the one that worked was the TATAZEUS mentioned.
Install Drivers and simply execute Root.bat into the zip. Tested on 871.111.20003.XT890.Brasil.en.BR. But Works on 871.111.20003.XT890.Brasil.en.BR too.
To unlock this phone visit Motorola website to request unlock key. Lost Warranty but not the updates for phone.
I'm going to try this method once i get home. Thanks for your help!

Yes you've obviously got the root access but you've gained it from the previous version of ics. The last version wouldn't allow rooting without unlocked bootloader as it could be assumed from the experience of those who tried to root upgraded razri.

Nope, rooting is necesary to give some apps elevated permissions. If you want to change your firmware, you must unlock the bootloader, and the use a tool like RSD Lite to flash a new firm over the actual one.

did you expect them to say anything less? basically what they are saying is "we believe our consumers are too stupid to modify or otherwise personalize their devices, so as a result we have prevented you from access all software on your phone for your own good"
It reminds me of Liar Liar, "That's just something ugly people say to feel better about themselves."

I'm debating about unlocking my phone and instal a Rom right now or wait and see. I usually root all phones but I was one of those dumbasses that flashed my EVO 3D with the virgin mobile version. Lucky me I didn't have most of the side effects people were complaining about. I just had the VM banners and some times text messages errors, but CM 10.1 make it go away.
Anyone have any cons about unlocking my phone and flash a rom right now or wait until we get S-Off if (ever happens).

you just need to unlock and install either twrp or cwm recovery.
From what I've read this really isn't a big deal. Nexus devices are not S-Off either. All this prevents you from flashing are the radio and bootloader which are not usually modified.

True, although for asop, aokp. and other open source roms a different bootloader maybe required. For the evo 3d the ics bootloader that installed with the firmware from the ota would give bootloops if a asop or aokp rom was flashed.if as a user you would never flash anything other than custom roms for your current version of android then yes an unlocked bootloader is all you need. Another example was the htc flyer. That device shipped with gingerbread when htc released the ota for honeycomb every user was in a hurry to install it, many had flashers remorse and wished to go back to gingerbread. With s-on they were out of luck.
This phone has features we may never see in aosp. I'm holding off on that. Nothing wrong with sense5 though honestly, its way better than any previous versions so far

Incorrect. You need to flash a superuser app and its binaries as well.
this zip is supposed to turn off read/write protection Sprint_One_Root_Disable_System_RW_Protection (1).zip
I was thinking we are a rare bunch of folks that are control freaks that root our phones.
But it amazes me to see things like Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, ROM Manager apps very near the highest volume Android Apps in the Market !!!
These are obviously "Root" user apps.
Maybe it's because we wipe our phones so often we distort the statistics
I love how they say they don't allow s-off because of "warranty" reasons yet at the bottom of the page it says unlocking your device will render the warranty void. #likewhat

This is somewhat false. The reason it was causing boot loops was because of the boot.img not flashing properly. It was required when the hboot got updated that we used a process such as "HTC dumblock" to flash the boot.img. Currently for our Ones we are fine because the hboot will allow proper flashing of the boot.img yet in the past, some future updates have blocked this feature. I for one will always want s-off. It gives me full control
