[Q] Problem after flashing kernel ... - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello my frend.°
Yesterday i got my galaxy note and i thought about flashing safe kernel, so i flashed it.
I fallowed this tutorial :
1A.Root + safe kernel + advance recovery. [Recommended method]
Here this will not just root your device but also add safe kernel (patched for mmc erase cap command) so you can safely wipe your device. as well gives you advanced recovery with it you can flash flashable zip files, nandroid backup/restore and more.
All credit goes to Phil3759 for awesome work.
Visit this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1901191
And download kernel in zip format according ROM you are having on device.
-Copy downloaded file to Ext SD card to root directory
-Reboot into recovery (vol up+Home+power)
-Select install(update) zip from ext SD card
-select '[your downloaded kerenel].zip' which you have copied to Ext card above
-Reboot device
Now you will have Root + safe kernel

And i got in CWM - thats for sure, i got CWM 6.0.3.0 based recovery and kerlel called - 4.90.8 n7000, so i thought it was okey and i rebooted my sistem, but it is not booting to it. It boots only till "Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" logo and then are black screen. After few tries and thought to get factory reset - but the same result - nothing after that logo ...
So, what i have missed?
I am safe to flash Custom Rom or i have bricked my device?
ASAP...

Guess: you didn't choose the correct kernel for your Rom.
So please tell us what Rom did you have.
And no, you didn't brick your device. If you would install the correct kernel, your Rom would boot again - assuming you didn't do anything wrong in the meantime.
But anyway: this this kernel you can install a Custom Rom you want (TW-based). If you want a CyanogenMod-based Rom follow the installation instructions for these roms

Ok, now i flashed "Varum ROM" and sems it is working ... but a little bit laggy ...

I'm not being funny, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE MESSING ROUND UNTIL you do a lot of reading on rooting and how the various parts of your o/s work together.
Just jumping in is the most stupid thing to do. Read, read, read, oh and read. After a month then try doing stuff.

You read to find a kernel that matches your Rom. Or something that is near to it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Read the original Philz thread. 2nd post let you know how to chose kernel. Get the right one and it will solved the problem. Provided nothing wrong is done to your phone.

I readed all kind of posts and i rooted my device with Philz method. Now i had been jumping around in various roms, seems all is working. So thanks for that,
P.s. I have been rooting and moding things since 2009, started with HTC and now went to Samsung club (galaxy s2, s3 and now note) ... so i thing i know what im doing ...
And i fallow instructions how to flash rom propertly so ... all is good for now ... (tfu, tfu, tfu) ...
And Have a nice Esters

The easiest guide to flash ANY rom for n00bs

I been seeing a lot of SOC or any other method of rooting that confuses user
so i wanna do this little guide and direct n00bs to use this with out any confusion
of flashing roms with out complicated steps
I do admit some stickies are a little confusing and provide extra information which
may further confuse a user
so here it goes
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DISCLAIMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am NOT responssible for what ever happens to your phone if steps are not
followed to the DOT
[Make sure proper drivers are installed in computer]
1.One Click ODIN this file
- http://www.multiupload.com/02H0BJWHKV
(this file will give you stock GB rooted with custom CWM recovery)
(unrar, place file on desktop, right click and select run as administrator, boot phone to download mode from a powered off state by clicking the vol up and vol down then inserting usb transfer pc cable, it should automatically boot up to a yellow triangle and an android digging picture, click the big START button on Odin and let it sit)
should take about 2-3 minutes..let it boot to see everything is ok
2.Download the rom of youre choice and place in sd card
3.Boot into CWM (pushing vol up + vol down + power)
4.Navigate to "intall zip from sd card"
5.Chose the Rom on youre sdcard and install.
(If its your first time flashing ICS your phone will reboot.. its ok just boot it back up to recovery.)
Youre all set enjoy your rom!!!!
(steps 6 and up are for flashing ICS proceed if youre doing so)
6.Youll have the blue CWM recovery
7.Install ICS rom once again (dont forget to wipe everything before doing so)... it should fully go thru this time..
8.Wipe again and flash GApps (if using CM9 if not skip)
9.Reboot phone...and let it load up.. takes 5-6 mins
10.Enjoy ICS
i did these steps to the dot, so have others and it works!!!
How do I " one click Odin"???
and btw none of your links ever work...
not sure why you wrote this when you help out my guide, which is "stickied"
How To Flash Captivate ROMs from STOCK
and your instructions for ICS... "blue recovery" depends on the kernel.
double flash has not been necessary since RC2.0,
and the best instructions for ICS is after booting into CWM, flash nushor kernel from http://ics.darkirc.me/ , then flash ICS, boot into success.
**ICS SGS RC3.1 will NOT install on stock unless an MTD kernel is present (nushor)

Just to clarify it isn't the "mtd" fact, it ONLY installs from Nushor's kernel. Poorly made cwm scrip (at least in the beginning, not sure now).
@OP: That being said "blue recovery" is vague to say the least (some kernels have custom color recovery). That being said, as long as its cwm 2.5+ it will flash just the same, WITH the exception of ICSSGS RC3.1. Also links are down. Not sure why all of them are. And last bit, if the current .zip still has the "error 7" thing I would add the Nushor kernel bit.

"some odin one click" isnt very discriptive... one-clicks are *usually* stock Android that came from your carrier. Custom roms are usually installed in CWM. Odin doesnt use CWM. not sure what your problem is.....

yes it was a problem with the install script. but without an MTD kernel, it wont install. so we are both right. lol
Sorry guys I tried to make this for the people who are always in the "bootloop" or "status 7" errors
@TRusselo I've got your guide linked on my sig but like I said some people may not understand what to do or how to do or get confused when you start talking about bootloaders n stuff... so with that being said this is just a "first do this then this then than" tutorial with out confusing or further confuse a first time flasher with the technical terms...
But if you guys feel this isn't necessary I can ask for it to be taken down
Just tryn to help out and not get first time flashers to post in wrong sections or ask or do the wrong things
Wasn't trying knock it. Pointing out few "flaws" as I see them

While your effort is commendable, nothing can replace reading and research about what a user wants to do on their phone. In the long run, it creates a more positive experience for the user, as well as builds their confidence for future modding.

[Q] Stuck at "Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000" Bootscreen

Hi,
after flashing from TeamRocket ICS 1.3b (which worked very well for me) to MIUI 4 Note v8 to get Livewings Edition ( I used cwm for that, but did all wipes properly) I stuck at the Logo mentioned in the threadtitle.
The problem is now: I cant get out of this.
cwm works fine, but I cant start any Rom. Tried to flash several ones, but I still keep stucking...
Has someone an idea ?

Try downloading abyss kernel 3.9 and flash it in recovery and stay in recovery and reboot recovery. Then flash any rom after wiping all the cache and dalvik and data before final rebooting the system (after flashing the rom)
This should work !!
Is it possible to flash a stock rom with odin to get back to out of the box ?
im also stuck in a bootloop when i tried flashing a stockrom over ics rom
please help

Use the above method i mentioned. It should work.
If nothing works then flash any rootable rom via PC Odin and you will be back to stock and then can root again and flash any other rom of your choice! Check out Dr Ketan's guide in the stickies post in development section of note forum !
got also the same predicament, just stuck in Samsung Galaxy N7000 bootup logo screen after I went to the recovery mode to format/system, format/cache..
I tried to follow the instructions actually on how to upgrade my CheckRom RevoHd v5 to Version 6...
The instructions were to format /system and format /cache... then copy the ROM to a new folder in the internal SD card...
Now the question is.. how can I copy the CheckRom RevoHD version 6.zip if I can't even boot back in recovery mode..
when I booted back.. it just stucks on that bootup logo screen.. ..
Bro how much time did you wait ? I was having the same problem! At least thats what i used to think... But turns out that the first boot takes REALLY long... took me approx 25 mins with rocketrom v22

to boot in recovery press and hold volume up home button and power button all at same time in any screen and keep pressing till the time the samsung logo again shows up. Then leave the buttons...it should now boot in recovery.

I already did that sir but It would really not open up recovery mode. I can however go to Download mode(with the Volume down) but what good is that anyway, right?
anyway, I have already fix my issue by reflashing it back via PC Odin...
I guess its either the instructions of flashing to the new version of CheckRom RevoHd v.6 is pretty much vague (though I really followed it to a tee) or simply the instructions are not that just well emphasized...
can you direct me to the rom you flashed via odin?
I tried flashing stock rom but i'm still in bootloop

Thanks, i'm out of bootloop, but i now i have the null keyboard error
edit solved: forgot to flash csc aswell

what you need now to download a GB custom kernel then flash it with the current cwm: then do the following to get it right and rooted ics
1-right after flash the GB kernel go to advance and then reboot recovery.
2-boot into the new recovery flash any custom rom like darkynote.
3-bootup get mobile odin and get the chainfire repack ics LP1.
4-start mobile odin flash the chainfire repack and make sure all the boxes are ticked and wipe data also ticked.
5-after the flash is done it will reboot auto in to cwm flash the miui and all is done.
this log steps I'm telling you to follow so you won't encounter the banry count and yellow triangle.
enjoy
Hi all. I also have the same problem. Initially I'm using LiquidSmooth rom. And then I went to Criskelo rom to try the rom...and didn't like it. And I tried to restore to LiquidSmooth and failed. Now I'm stuck in bootloader and when I try to flash anything on CWM, it hangs. Even if I leave it for awhile on the menu, it'll hang too. What should I do?
Stuck on Samsung Startup Screen
I tried various Stock Roms, but unable to go ahead of Samsung bootcreen. I can get into recovery menu & also download screen, so I assume my Note is not bricked. However I tried to flash old directly rootable GB ROM, ICS ROM, Latest GB ROM(Wipe) but nothing works. While flashing latest GB ROM "N7000XXLC1 (Wipe)" ODIN was stuck in data.fs, so flash was incomplete, In other ROMS flash was complete but I was stuck on Startup screen. I tried flashing "Q1_20110914_16GB.pit" file also but no luck. I also flashed Abyss Note Kernel 3.9 & 4.2 in ICS ROM, but I don't know how to flash this kernel in GB ROM as I'm unable to get into external memory card where I transferred kernel zip file. Please help me save my Note.

Help newbie with installing new ROM

Hi, I'm stuck with installing new rom, so I hope, that you'll help me.
There are steps what I've done:
- followed THIS topic and ROOT the device with ODIN and CF-Root 4.4 file.
- OKAY, I'm rooted, so let's flash the new ROM
- entered in Clockworkmod Recovery and format EVERYTHING ( /data, /system, /cache, /sdcard etc.... just everything) for clear system
- next I load package with ROM and than INSTALLL
and here is the most important part
- when installed ROM gets something like bootloop but with restart - ROM is loading and after about 40 sec its RESTART
- and the same thing over and over again - restart ->loading->restart.... System never start up correctly to the end
- then when I saw that it does not work, I tried go into the CWM, but there was no CWM (!!!) - it was erased (by installing new ROM maybe???)
- so I must flash (old and stock) ROM via ODIN and again root device with CF-Root (with CWM) - that was only functional rom, what I was able to run, and again did this procedure
I tried this way, perhaps with millions of different ROM and EVERY was stucked (restart) while loading.
I think there are some non-deleted files in device, which should be erased (and which cannot be erased by CWM) for clear start of new installed ROM, what do you think?
Would someone please help me? I don't want old Gingerbread with Kies
Thanks for every responce!
Does it say in the thread that you have to flash a custom kernel?? Give.me the link for the thread so I can make sure that you've done everything right

I think, when I've root and CWM, there is no problem and install a new rom will be very least, so not as it seems
Dude this is a kernel not a rom what's the matter with you??:what:
Sent from ma 5assak
please read all my topic - i flash this kernel only for clockworkmod recovery
through CWM I can flash any other rom
through ODIN only stock - cant find any ICS or JB rom which I can flash via ODIN (.tar file)
What variant of i9000 do you have? Are you sure that the rom you are trying to flash is made exactly for your variant?
EDIT: Try Darky ROM, they have an ODIN flashable version called "Resurrection Edition" or something.
I mean give me the link for the Rom you are using not kernel

OK. For example: this rom cm-9.0.0-galaxysmtd and cm-9-20120815-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd from http://get.cm/?device=galaxysmtd
Or this one last ([ALPHA][ROM][4.1.1] CyanogenMod 10 for Samsung Galaxy S) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526 and 20120808 build.
and [ROM][PORT][ANDROID 4.1.1][BETA] TAJB: Jelly Bean port for Galaxy S V7.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747042

Ok so you can flash Darky Rom Resurrection Edition through ODIN with no problem. Its GingerBread if i remember correctly, but it should give you a recovery mode and fully operating phone. From this point you can flash whatever you want.
....And there is one more important thing:
When I have a stock kernel and stock rom from Samsung, cant get into recovery mode - VOLUME UP and POWER non functional. Only when I type: "adb reboot recovery" in terminal.
Just after when I flash a new pre-rooted kernel with CWM, VOLUPE UP and POWER is now functional
k4Z3666: OK, I try and give you an echo I think, when I format everything in CWM, there will be no sign of the earlier system and ALL WILL BE CLEAR

ok, flashing ICS, may need to be done twice, as first flash may bootloop, IF you want to return to stock to get out of this mess, since you are not sure as to where you are now, due to flashing many roms, use any kit from My Android Collections, link below to get you to a booting ROM, than add a kernel with CWM (use EZbaze package with kernels)
that's helped me too thank you

[Q] CM10.1 on stock JB N7000

Hi everyone,
My first post here, and not after I have been reading & searching to find an answer to a question I wouldn't ask otherwise. So, if this has been asked a zillion times before and I just did not find it, please just point me in the right direction & don't shoot me
Here it goes.
I have just purchased a second hand Samsung Galaxy Note N7000, my first smartphone.
It has the stock Samsung JB ROM loaded on it, and it is horribly slow...
I've been reading about custom kernels & custom ROM's, and I would like to install the "LiquidSmooth" ROM on my phone.
this post tells how to do it, but it doesn't actually explain how to...
If I Google for "CM 10.1 N7000", I end up at pages like http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=n7000&type=nightly and another thread on these forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397. How do I know which kernel is safe to use on my device? Reading this makes me a bit scared to brick my phone before actually having used it for more than a day: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857556
So, could anyone please elaborate a bit further on this for me?
1. Flash CM 10.1 kernel
=> how to know which kernel to flash, and how do I know what is and what isn't safe on my standard ROM phone? If I download a nightly from CM, then how do I flash *just* the kernel? Or should I just flash the entire image?
2. Reboot to recovery
=> answer is clear in the forums
3. Flash rom
=> answer is clear in the forums
4. Flash latest Gapps
=> I assume that's the CM 10.1 version on this page: http://goo.im/gapps ?
5. Reboot
=> ok
6.???
=> ?
7. Profit
=> let's hope so
Thank you in advance for your help!

Instead of ICS you have to look for CM10.1 JB kernel
Clear instructions, thank you!
Ok treacherous_hawk, I've just installed PhilZ' kernel. That is to say: I *think* that I have installed it... but when I look at the phone info, I still see the original kernel mentioned (kernel 3.0.31-1103517, build *XXLT4). I have installed "PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT4-OXA-5.00.5-signed.zip" as described in the forums.
So I'm not really sure whether I have actually installed this kernel or not?
The messages on my screen indicated that the kernel was installed successfully, and I have a "SuperUser" app on my phone now that wasn't there previously, so everything looks good.
But, like I said: it's my first smartphone, my first encounter with custom kernels & custom ROM's, and I don't want to brick it right away. So just to be on the safe side: should I be ok in proceeding to wipe everything & install the LiquidSmooth ROM now?
Thanks once again!
Superuser indicates root. And the kernel will be flashed, do go to recovery and cofirm that you have the custom CWM based Philz recovery.
Thank you very much Varad297!!
Rebooted into recovery, and I can now confirm that I indeed have PhilZ' CWM kernel running.
On to the next step with confidence, \m/
Made a successful backup of the standard ROM to my external SD & duplicated the backup to my PC. Installed CM 10.1 & booted into it without problems! Now copying Liquid-JB-v2.4 & gapps-jb-20130301 to my SD & getting ready for the final steps. Very exciting
Ok, I'm in trouble now...
Installed PhilZ' kernel => OK
Reset/wipe/... => OK
Installed CM 10.1 => OK
Now I've rebooted into recovery mode again, wanting to install LiquidSmooth 2.4 for my N7000, and I don't know how to...
Rebooted into recovery mode, and now my phone is saying "Downloading, do not turn off target", but I don't have any option to select my external SD card to install the LS-image.
How should I continue?
What must I do to install the LS-image from my external SD-card?
Or what should I do to install the image from my PC when connecting my phone via USB?
Please help!

You have booted into download mode. take out battery, put it in. To go to recovery mode press volume up+power+home button.
You're God hawk!
Did just that, and I am now running LS 2.4 on my N7000. And oh boy, what a difference this is! Went from a sluggish 90's phone/pc to a modern-age snappy device. Awesome, just awesome! Thank you everyone! This has been a fabulous first experience to custom ROM's!

What Do you mean by "keeps restarting" Bro, Is it stuck on the bootanimation?
If your phone doesn't get pass boot animation and reboots, then there's only one way to fix it. Your personal files and data would be gone but I'm sure it's backed up with your google account. Watch this and follow the instructions. Installing a stock firmware using ODIN. Hope it helped

Are you currently using a stock rom or a custom rom? Anyway you can solve this problem by just flashing back the stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check the "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
If your PC cannot recognize the phone, its usually the drivers. Once installed, go to recovery mode (hold power+ Home button) and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace. Just flash them from the recovery mode (choose "install zip from sdcard" and then select the zip file from sdcard).

The Apocalypse you are referring to is the custom rom that is installed in your phone. When you bought you phone, you had Samsung's version of Froyo/ Gingerbread installed in your phone. That rom is called stock rom. Custom roms are build by developers using cyanogen mod sources. Now you keep having restarts and since clearing data and cache from CWM didn't solve it, I suggest you install another rom. Now this is where you have to make a choice. You can either install a stock rom (stable, nice battery backup, etc) or a custom rom (fast, performance oriented, customizable, etc). Before you do install another rom, backup all app data using Titanium Backup. If you choose Stock rom, then follow my previous post on how to install stock rom on your phone. Now if you choose custom rom, then first we need to update CWM 4 to CWM 5.
CWM 5.0.2.6 fix for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830
Download the CWM 5 zip file to SD Card and reboot your phone to recovery mode (Power off then hold Home+ Power button). Now choose "Install zip from SD Card" and choose the zip file. Done! You have successfully installed CWM 5. Now time for you to install a new custom rom. Refer the following guide for all the custom roms for our device,
Know your Device:Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 ~Root~Odin~CWM~ROM LIST
For time being use any Gingerbread roms. Download it to SD Card and then reboot to recovery mode. Now choose Wipe data/ factory reset, Wipe cache partitions, Advanced> Wipe dalvik cache, Wipe battery stats, Mounts & Storage> Format /system. Now select "Install zip from SD Card" and choose your rom zip file. Reboot and you can use your new rom. Whenever you want to install any new custom rom, just follow the same procedure. Now as for the low internal memory problem, we might have a solution. But the catch is it requires a rom with init.d support (something all custom roms have and stock roms doesn't ) and an ext partition on SD Card. First backup all the SD Card data. Now go to CWM> Advanced> Partition SD Card> Size (Max 1GB, anymore and system will lag)> Swap (0MB) and wait for it to say "Partitioning done". Now download and place CronMod script (try INT2EXT+ as it is the most stable of all) to SD Card. Now again go to CWM> Mounts & Storage> Mount /system then flash the Cronmod zip from CWM. Reboot and you are good to go. Now go to Settings>Storage to see the newly increased internal memory. Here is the link,
CronMod-INT2EXT

Next time, post it in the correct section, thank you for understanding it
Follow @mahithm instructions to flash a fresh STOCK rom and the next tine DON'T USE CWM 4x, it's outdated, there are several recovery systems based on CWM 5x, they're the most stable for a daily usage and they're required to flash most of the custom roms
