So I'm ruining the jb ota and i like to run my phone with the processing power cut in half. To this point I've been using setcpu, but since the update it goes back to 1.2ghz every time i turn the screen off or open another app.
So I'm wondering if there is another app that works as well as setcpu or if someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong without changing ROMs.
Thanks ahead of time

Its a problem with locked bootloader/stock kernel.... you can try system tuner pro but it might do the same thing... but I like the tuner...

You need a custom kernel that's usually included with the CM/AOKP roms that is loaded via kexec, or wait for Myfishbear to make flashable oc scripts which will allow you to underclock in Setcpu.
Never had a problem with the stock kernel or locked boot loader before, but I'll try that tuner. Thanks
Update: tried tuner, no dice. Guess this new jb kernel is to blame /:

Im sorry if this is in the wrong section, but when overclocking my phone I notice that it tends to stay in the highest clock possible. If I have it at 1.2 its at 1.2 for 90% of the time. How can one fix this problem? Is it a kernal or voltage control problem?

Try disabling the perflock. That will allow your device to read the frequencies. The only thing is you have to disable the perflock everytime u reboot. But it will enable your custom profiles. I had the.exact same problem.
But as always you can download a kernel with the perflock permanently disabled. But if u like your current kernel, just disable the perflock inside Setcpu

What ROM and kernel are u using? If using a kernel like hardcore's speedmod, did u make sure u r flashing the Captivate version, and not the 9000 version.

Do captivates have this perflock? I never thought they did. The last I heard it was HTC phones that had this to be disabled. I have flashed quite some ROMs and kernels, and never had a necessity to even use SetCPU.
And to honest, I would recommend NOT to use set cpu on any captivate with 2.2 or higher rom/kernel. That tends to mess up the phone.
Im gonna be using phoenix 4.5 once it finishes downloading... but as of now, im on 4.1 and with setirons kernal1.5.6

So I have many questions.
I have a rooted Revolution, with the Revolt Rom 1.5.
I want to change it to ROM: Gingervolt by mtmichaelson, also with a theme Ice Cream Kangwich (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327306)
So my question is; Do i flash it directly over the one i have now? Or do i unflash then flash? Also themes require a flash too right? So how would that work with a rom? And when i do flash, I lose all my apps right? so even the purchased ones get lost so i have to reinstall/download everything all over again?
Also the Kernel: OC/UV 1.5ghz (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371022) So it's basically overclocking but why can't you just use setCPU instead of doing this? What's the differnce?
I will tackle this one... Flashing gingerbread roms over froyo hasn't worked in the past(or now) various problems Bootloops, Sim not activating..just problems in general that's why it isn't suggested...so what you need to do is put the stock recovery back on the phone and see if you can pull the update...or the easiest way is to flash the v7.tot using lgnpst you can find the files and instructions in the development section once on gingerbread you can then follow the instructions to get gingervolt on your phone once you have gingervolt 1.3 you can then put the ick theme on your phone flashing the same way you do anything else...the difference in the kernel is the OC/UV kernel will let you over clock to 1.5 where the stock kernel limits you to 1 and is also running less voltage at 1.5 than the stock is at 1 of course you need something like CPU tuner or setcpu to take control of the situation.

So putting it short, I should put it back to normal, then do the gingervolt correct?
And i don't understand the OC/UV kernel, can you please put it in more simpler terms? What i think is that you're saying basically it lets me overclock my phone with less voltage than when its at normal? therefore increases battery life + increases the speed of my phone?
Btw what should I do with all my apps contacts etc?

Anytime you flash a ROM through Clockwork Recovery, it's suggested that you do a data wipe/factory reset from within Clockwork Recovery. That data wipe will erase ALL your apps and ALL your contacts. However, when you sign back into your Google Account on the new ROM, your contacts will be restored and "maybe" some or all of your apps.
Use an app like MyBackup Root, or Titanium Backup to backup your apps. That way you have a complete backup of all your apps that you can restore after going to a new ROM. Hope all this helps, let me know if it doesn't and I'll try to answer all your questions.
I'm running stock ICS rooted with Speed Mod. And day by day the phone seems to slow down. How to speed it up? Help please.
Sent from my GT-N7000
how did you install ICS?
Try in settings development option show processes and check which one are using your cpu. Then google on proces whats its related to, if you cant see immediately which app could be causing lagging.
Also, another possible cause, did you change governator?

Like baz said- see wich applications are running, and if they are some that you are not using- delete them. If they are system apps, you can remove them with System App Remover (needs root).

but Akilesh hasnt said he has no visible programs running. If thats the case, then install procedure probably was dirty, or kernel install was dirty. Or recovery from backup lol.
Also use newest versions

I'm on newest 4.0.4 with no much programs installed. Also what does a clean install mean? And i always stick to the stock governor.

Try using latest version of Notecore V14 my note even with using criskelo's rom its running alot faster. If your on stock rom you will need to download PC Odin and flash the odin version you will use triangle away to reset the flash counter.
I've just gotten around to loading the Slimbean ROM on my Exhibit II, and I'm loving it! Really awesome.
But still wondering, like in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33081432&postcount=2103, if it is possible to set up a virtual memory swap file with these kernels at all.
I'm still on the original kernel as part of the Slimbean ROM, since I had some odd troubles with the SpeedyGonzales ones (the 1.5 version never gets past the boot animation, and the other one does boot but WIFI is dead).
Is it possible?
only using custom kernel and using the swap mod i did but is no longer posted

Are they going to be re-posted somewhere?
I just tried the SpeedyGonzalez_OC.zip kernel again (I think this is 1.4?) that I downloaded from Blownco. It boots and I get all the OC options, but it still kills my wifi. I never loaded the OTA update to go to the UVLG3 update (I'm still on the original). Could that be why my wifi dies with the OC kernel?
Couldn't he just flash jocala ps then upgrade
Edit nevermind just chekced my baseband uvle3

I went through re-flashing it, using Peach Sunrise long enough to get the new baseband version.
Unfortunately, it still won't let WIFI work.
CM10.1 Lag Fix version 2
The first version by me is baked into cm10.1 by epinter already, this is the new one.
This update is made by me and will be baked into cm10.1 (epinter) as soon as he diffs it.
This build prop works okay*for me, but not 100%!
Instructions: To apply the tweaks and scripts to CM/PAC/CARBON etc...
(1. Download the attached file below.
(2. Flash it in Clockworkmod recovery.
(3. Enjoy.
What does this do? Enable both cores on high, free a tad more ram and graphics tweaks through properties and init.d...
VERY Close to fixing 100% of the problem. But I cant get my other source to work.
Download - Codex01-CM10.1PreformanceEnhancements-3.0.1.zip
so does battery life take a hit with both cores enabled?
No, I included more than performance there's now power saving, connection, and media init.d scripts and props.

Thanks thats good to know about to flash now.
Update: I definitely see a performance difference.
I tried it in PAC rom and its running smooth now. I notice that after i flash this, i can't proceed to CMW recovery. Anyone has the same problem? Im planning to back up this.thanks

Nope i get into CMW.
Is there a way i can recover CMW?
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
This does make everything a bit smoother. Animation is still kinda herky-jerky but for a ROM that's been around for less than a week developed by a guy who doesn't even own one (epinter says he doesn't have an MB886 available to him), this is super impressive.
Try flashing it again @ryuben2k. What version and which model, from what I hear, the Photon 4G LTE is not a good choice of recovery. Make sure you flash the Razr HD recovery. If all goes well with the millions of init.d scripts I'm writing I'll have version 3 by tomorrow.
Is this specifically for cm10.1 or will it work for PAC rom?
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
Yes, because PAC is a port into our cm10.1 sources. @worlddominatiin
Appreciate the work your doing looking forward to v3
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
@Swiftb12305 I'll have it up tonight for sure, something came up and I didn't feel like doing anything.
thanks! im waiting for the v3 too!
Okay might be a while because my Google site page for this got reformatted, and I'm trying to get some other stuff done, this may lead to the early to late am maybe even pm. Because of scripts for not only cm, PAC, and AOKP... But now root box too.... Hope you guys understand.

So later this night or tomorrow night?
No problem... I might be awake to try this out still...
I don't see any reason to not be patient...
No problem btw what will v3 include?
Sorry for my absence and delay of development, it was due to a family emergency. I'm not home right now, I'm using mobile hotspot while I'm in Daytona for a while. Hopefully I can get this project up. Please be patient while I'm syncing my sources now on my laptop.
To answer your question on what this update will contain: It will contain additional scripts in init.d, as well as a new sysctl script.
OP UPDATE: New Beta is up, not a whole lot of changes till tonight.
Sweet!
Can't wait til it's... Tonight...
For a second there, I was about to ask what's new with this upcoming version... That would have been pretty stupid...
